Duplicated songs showing & playing

Hi
Nearly all the songs in my itunes library are showing as duplicates in itunes, BUT not in Windows Explorer. Further, if I go through itunes deleting duplicates, when I delete last duplicated song in album, itunes crashes & the album is deleted.
I have tried phoning Apple, but as my ipod is out of warranty, my only option is to pay £25 which I am not prepared to do. Any ideas? It is driving me nuts, as when I play an album, all songs play twice in a row.
This has happened with all versions of itunes over last few months. Upgraded to 10.2.1.1 a couple of days ago. Same problem. As a result, I rarely use itunes....
Thanks

Thanks that really helped! My music is stored on my pc. Am I best off syncing it to the iphone to get the music back across - will that put everything back on or will I have to download anything?

  • Deleting duplicated songs from play list.

For some reason my main library has most of my songs duplicated some of them three and four times. I've been deleting them one at a time. is there a faster way of deleting all of my duplicates and only leaving one of each song?
Thanks to anyone who can help me!

I wrote a program to do it automatically for you. Download the "EXE" file from here:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/index.html#itunesremoveduplicates
It will download as a ZIP. Open the ZIP and run the EXE (teridonsitunesscripts.exe). From the menu, select itunesremoveduplicates (15).
When asked, select the Library playlist (number 1). Make sure you select a different playlist in iTunes (say, the "Movies" playlist) while the program is running; it will run much faster that way.

Hi, so I pushed autofill because I thought that it would put music on my phone from a different iTunes library but it didn't work, and now the songs show up grey in my music on my phone and they won't play, but they are still there. What can I do to fix this and get rid of the grey songs?

Go back to iTunes, select the Music tab, uncheck the 'sync music; button, then hit apply.

    Thanks.

Thank you Winston. I guess we need to ask that this feature gets added at least as an option in an upcoming release. When someone is using shuffle, it helps to know what is playing while viewing pictures.

  • Ipod songs showing up grey and won't play

I have recently added some cd's on to iTunes. The songs show up normal in my itunes library and will play, but then when I go to them on my iPod library they show up grey and have a sync sign next to them. Most of them don't even show up on my ipod, but some do and they are just grey and won't play. I have tried re-downloading the cd's, right clicking on the songs, and pretty much anything I can think of. How do I fix this?

    Couple questions for you.
Are you using the Wi-Fi sync feature?
Are you on the latest firmware?
What I would try doing is, if your using the Wi-Fi sync feature turn that off and sync with the cable that was provided with the iPod.
If you are already doing that I would try going into settings > general > reset all settings
if that doesnt work, then the last thing I would try is restoring your iPod to factory after backing everything up and trying to sync once more.
Let me know if this helps you out at all!

My ipod touch seems to have updated on its own, and now I can't access the songs, show a red circle with a red dot in the center.  Computer says the songs are still on the ipod.  Fix?

  • Songs showing in a faded grey on iphone 4 but wont play, any idea's?

Hi im looking for a bit of help i updated to ios 6.1.2 the other day now my songs wont play they show the artist name in black then when you open it, its a faded grey colour and it wont play? Ive managed to start download the songs again from itunes purchase history but the problem now is that when i go into an album it shows as being double one in black that plays and one in grey that doesnt?

I had the same problem after using an auxillary plug in the headphone jack.  I tried rebooting, restoring to factory, and inserting and removing iPhone headphones in the jack.  The only solution was going to the Apple store and getting a replacement phone.  The Apple store genius said it is a rare problem with the 4/4S iPhone that is a hardware issue.

    Hi TheGuru146,
It sounds like the iPod isn't restoring correctly. Try putting the it into Disk Mode manually and then restoring the iPod again as described in the article linked below.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
    iPod nano (7th generation)
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds.
When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk Mode.

  • Songs show on my ipod but none play

ok heres the deal I transfered all of my songs on to my ipod and it shows them all on there but when I go to play any song nothing plays it brings it up like it's going to play it but nothing happens no sound the bar dosent move it just lists the song and the artwork but thats it, please help

    Mike,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Is this a new problem (i.e., you previously were able to play songs on your iPod)or has it happened from the very beginning (i.e., you never have been able to play songs on your iPod)?
Do you have the hold switch turned on or off? If on, try turning it off and then playing a song.
Does this happen with all songs that you transferred or just one?
Are you sure that your iPod is not merely paused?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

And the Radio app probably doesn't work either.
The headphone jack on the nano is very tight when new. Push the jack all the way in, the plastic on the headset jack should be flush with the body of the nano.

  • TS1717 Downloaded "clean" album from store. Some of the songs show their total length, but only play partway thru. Any ideas on how to get songs to play full length?

Downloaded from "clean" cd from store but some songs only play partway even though total time shows.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks only from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to restart iTunes. While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Some of my songs cannot play. while some are duplicated

some of my songs cannot play. while some are duplicated

In iTunes or on your device?
If the songs that won't play are missing and show up with an exlamation mark then...
This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes
.If they are there, but just won't play then it could be a permissions issue or file corruption.
Once you've fixed any broken links I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.
If the problems are on the device, back it up, then restore it.
