Duplicated songs when moving itunes library
I reformatted my computer and when I installed itunes it duplicated all of my files twice, so now I have three of each song. All 3 are playable, yet there is only one copy of each song in my music folder. Could anyone help me find an easy way to solve this please? I don't want to go through and delete all the duplicates!
Thanks
The best way to move an iTunes library is to copy the whole iTunes folder and all the files and folders it contains to Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music
By putting it in the default location (and probably replacing the existing iTunes folder there) it will appear when you next start iTunes. If you already have music on your Mac you can give the two iTunes folders different names and then later integrate them into one.
iTunes stores apps in Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications which is part of the whole iTunes folder contents you just copied.
To make sure you can check: Where does iTunes Save iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad Apps on Windows & Mac

My itunes library had out grown my 2TB drive (I'm a bit of a podcast addict) so I got a 4TB drive to replace it but for some reason my Mac Pro started to act up and eventually apps became crippled to where they would not open.
So I had no choice but to go back to my 2TB drive for my boot drive for now but my itunes library is now slightly larger than the 2TB drive and won't fit so with my previous 4TB drive connected via a hard drive dock I followed the instructions to move my itunes library to a secondary 4TB drive in my mac pro and that went fine the one thing I noticed is in the article it says not to move the 2 library files but now my itunes media is on a internal drive and the 2 library files are on the hard drive connected to my mac pro via the dock so if I was to remove the drive from the dock the 2 library files would no longer be accessable and my itunes library would not be able to be found even though the media in on one of my internal drives.
Anyone know how I can rectify this issue?Does this article help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305451 ?

Greetings all
When i double click on a song in my iTunes library the following appears:
The song "......" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
Hope you can help
revdsThis happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

I have all my songs in my iTunes library on the computer, but when I press the button to sync it, it doesn't put the songs on my iPhone. I have songs from my iPod on here too. How do I get it to put the songs on my iPhone?
Have you selected the music to sync?

I lost all my ipod songs when my mom plugged her exact same ipod (5th generation nano) into my computer. She did not get my songs on hers but somehow I lost mine. I tried the five R's and evrything I could find online. I cannot get the songs from my iTunes library back on my ipod. I get a message that says. "Gina's ipod cannot be restored because it is being used in another application." Please help me
Why do you need to restore your iPod to resync your content back over to it from your iTunes library? You should just be able to configure the content to sync to your device as you did before this problem occurred.

when i play a song from my itunes library, there is a short "buzzing" sound about every 20-30 seconds. This same thing happened some time ago, and i thought i had it sovled by verifying that itunes was my default player. Howerver, it has started up again. Any ideas how to fix the problem??
I am having the same problem I have over 11.5 GB of .tmp files, many 1000s. Here is a thread I have found with some more info:

That thread is almost a year old so I'm not holding out hope for a fix from apple. I'm going to try deleting them and see how it goes... -

When I try to play some of the songs in my itunes library, I get a prompt saying the file cannot be used. When I hit the locate button, the file cannot be found. I didn't delete any songs/files and there is no common link between the missing songs.

when i hit auto fill under music it just says Itunes cannot add any song to "___'s Iphone" because no songs in your itunes library could be found.
there clearly is an anbundance of music that I have been syncing all the time, I have not the slightest idea why it just stopped working, also when I try to manually click and drag songs into the device tab in itunes, NOTHING happens.
any suggestions on how to fix itI have a very smilar problem. Recently imported my modest music collection from my old G3 CRT to a new Mac Mini by linking the two machines and then dragging the music library and songs over.
iTunes works fine in normal screen mode, music library is all there and all songs are visible and play but when trying to play back with the Apple Remote it opens up iLife ok and lists the playlists. Click on 'Songs' it says that there are no songs in the library. Click on any playlist then it goes to 'Shuffle Songs' then 'Error has occured' It can't seem to see the music library.
I put this question on iTunes and Mac Mini discussion and got:
Some other people have had similar problems, you might see if the suggestions in this thread help:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=447043
Tried but as yet no success. Tried re-naming the iTunes Music Library.xml and also deleting com.apple.frontrow.plist from Library and letting it rebuild without any luck.
Any suggestions out there as how to resolve this? Thanks in advance. -
I have a few thousand songs in my itunes music library, when i connect my ipad that has only 50 songs on it will it overwrite the songs in my itunes library
I had previously syncd the ipad and the songs on it, then loaded songs from an old ipod into the itunes account (using irip) and now the ipad songs that were in the itunes account are gone. Can I change the auto sync settings before reconnecting the ipad again as to not lose the songs from my old ipod.

When I click on some songs in my itunes library it says the file is not detected. If i hook up my ipod will i loose the songs already on it or will it retore the files to itunes?
Before to attach your ipod.... try to find the file where you put your music.... click on that song.... itunes will ask you if you want to locate it.... from there you have to find the song(s) that is one of the folders in your PC.

My iMatch is crashing every time is reaches the end of step #2 - checking all the songs in my iTunes library. There are 4,389 songs to match, and when it reaches 4,388 songs checked and matched, it crashes and shuts downs iTunes altogether.
hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo
