Aperture Imports Duplicates and Triplicates of Photos from my iPhone 6 Plus

When I import photos from my iPhone 6 Plus, Aperture imports duplicates and triplicates of the identical photo randomly. This results in hours of going back through all of the Projects in Aperture and manually deleting the duplicates.
I thought that maybe I was mistaking standard and HDR versions of the same photo, or even burst shots that looked very similar, but this isn't the case. It is the same file name followed by a (1), (2), and sometimes a (3). I also know this isn't the case, because my Camera Roll has about 1,200 photos and videos on it (I stopped importing photos to my hard drive a while ago because of the duplicates, hoping an update would come out to fix the problem), but Aperture tells me that it is going to import over 4,000 photos from my iPhone 6 Plus, not the 1,200 that is on it. This is because of a bug that is double and triple counting many of the photos and videos.
Interestingly enough, Image Capture recognizes only the 1,200 photos on the iPhone, but I'm reluctant to use it because it won't append the Metadata that I have preset in Aperture or automatically run the preset enhancements. I also don't use Image Capture so I'm not sure if it might leave out any Metadata or have some other drawback that I'm not aware of.
So far I've don't he standard troubleshooting, have restarted my iMac and iPhone 6 Plus, ran repair permissions, waited for an update, etc. but I still have the same problem.
I've all but given up on Aperture and am waiting anxiously for the Apple to release the new Photos software, but I need to spend time to work around this bug before then. I can't leave this many photos and videos on my iPhone and need to get them imported into Aperture.
Is there an obvious fix to this that I'm overlooking?

If Image Capture imports correctly, use it to import to a folder and then import that folder to Aperture. You can use the same presets when importing from a folder as when importing from a camera of iPhone.
The same buggy behavior has been reported for iPhoto, since the iOS 8.1 release. It happens in iPhoto, Image Capture, Aperture, but not all are seeing this problem.

Unfortunately, there is no clear picture yet, what circumstances will make it happen, and how to prevent it.
For some forum members it was the Photo Stream (Duplication upon importation from Iphone to Iphoto), others found it was caused by HDR photos, for some the problem went away after the 8.1.2 update, for others it started with this update.
A few forum members reported, that it helped to dismount the iPhone and plug it in again (iPhoto 9.6 shows duplicate photos present on iPhone), and then the duplicates went away. One member reported, that Apple Support claimed this problem to be caused by iCloud iPhoto libary (Beta), and indeed turning off iCloud iPhoto libary (Beta) made he duplicates vanish for him.

Have you turned off iCal syncing in iTunes for your iphone? You only want to keep iCloud syncing.

For some reason I have duplicate and triplicate images of the same photo on my iPhone and iPad after syncing with iTunes. I have tried deleting them by syncing and removing the photos check box and then starting over with a new sync, but they are still there.

Thanks Jim .... do you think rsync running by cron would do it? Then also, would it create problems overwriting files that are used in the management of the content if both computers are using iTunes at the same time?
That was my next thought, well, even if I was not going to be able to do this I still want to sync all the data on both systems ... then I have an additional backup as well.

I've just finished installing iphoto '08 and found that I have 2 to 3 duplicates of each picture.
Is there a setting for removing duplicates or do I have to do them by hand?

Thanks again for the info. I did download the Duplicate Annihilator and it works great. Problem is I've discovered 3, 4, 5, and in some cases 6 copies of photos. DA took out some at a time ( tried it three times ) and it seems it can only go so far "downwards" and it's for example, I'm guessing, taking out 1 of the sometimes 6 copies each time. Also left with little grey dotted squares where the copies used to be and they are all mostly out of order date wise.
What do you think of this? I have a fresh copy of my latest working iphoto '04 library on an external hard drive. Should I rebuild iphoto '08 and drag the photos from my '04 into the new iphoto? Maybe uninstall iphoto 08' and install again and drag the '04 library into the new iphoto?
My only concern is that the same thing would happen again.
I have a "iphoto cache" plus other iphoto folders on my back up 04'. This I can't find anywhere in my new iphoto '08. Whenever I open the "iphoto '08 library" ( in applications folder ) on my computer iphoto just opens up.
Very glad I have a recent, duplicate free backup on the EX HD. It would be nice to start from scratch somehow. Maybe I have an unnamed iphoto library floating around somewhere?
Maybe just take your first suggestion and drag my pictures from the back-up.

Duplicate and triplicate e-mails

Hello everyone, Sorry if I'm in the wrong forum. I am at wits end trying to figure out how to avoid or stop duplicate, triplicate and sometimes even four times receipt of the same e-mail from everyone, whether they are in my address book or not. My service is through SBC Yahoo DSL. I use Safari as a browser and Entourage as the default e-Mail. I am spending way too much time deleting all of this unwanted e-mail. Will someone out there help me please?

I use Apple Mail as my primary mail client for multiple POP and IMAP accounts, and I have not seen duplicate (or triplicate) emails. Are you bound to using Entourage? Have you tried using Apple Mail instead of Entourage? Apple Mail supports POP, IMAP, and Exchange, so perhaps this duplicate message behavior will go away if you switch mail clients.
Also, you might try posting on http://discussions.info.apple.com/tiger.mail/ as it's more related to problems with mail.

ITunes won't stop creating duplicates and triplicates in my library!

My issue is that iTunes is creating duplicates of my songs. Over and over and over again. I have the preferences set so that it is saving everything in one folder, etc. It still happens. In fact, not only are there duplicates, there are 4 and 5 copies of songs. I've gone and deleted the duplicates, and then when I go to play the remaining file out of the library, it says it can't find it.....it's really bizarre. At first it wasn't that big of a deal, but now I have several gigs of hard drive space taken up by duplicate songs. It's a nightmare.
Here's some additional info about my setup; I hope this helps.

iTunes version 7.7 (was also happening with previous versions)
I store all of my music on an external Maxtor USB hard drive

did you ever figure this one out? my album folders contain one set of duplicate music files in them. glad it's only one set of duplicates at this point, but that's still double the pain in the a**.

How to delete duplicate and triplicate Music Videos in itunes?

Hi, I have 3 music videos, two of which are in triplicate, and one that is duplicated. How can I delete them? When I have my music video playlist open, delete is not highlighted as a viable "tool" or command to choose (not in dark black/it is grey). In the list, have unchecked all but one of each so dup/ trips won't sync to my Ipod but I need every morsel of memory I can get on this PC. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Hi Alan, I noticed that my music videos were also listed just as music in the library and from there I was able to delete the dup's and trips. Thanks for your information.

ITunes 6 - cleaning out duplicates and triplicates?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I am using iTunes 6.0.4 (3) and I am still a newbie to the Mac OSX and iTunes. I am slightly irritated that all of the entries in my iTunes library are dublicates or triplicates. Is there any way I can change this without individually unchecking hundreds of files? Do I have to clear out the libraries and start again? All of the music files are being networked from a Windows XP Pro SP2 desktop. Thanks for any help...

No dont worry i am not going to copy this. The reason i am asking is to see if it is legal or not, its worth getting a discount if its available. Looks like its a no though. If you ask me NUS should be prosecuted because you can be minimum age of 16 and get an NUS card and it says on their site under the link to apple store 'are you a student in further education. If so why not take advantage of a 15% discount on apple products'. (or somethign alogn those lines) Now me and my mate are but we arent over 18. Ive emailed them to try and get a confirmation. Anyone know an email address that i can contact apple directly about this with? Also any more answers to the original post are welcome.
I would also like to know if i can get any sort of discount on apple products whilst under the age of 18, whether straight through apple or using for example NUS cards.

Delete itunes duplicates and triplicates

Hi - i have 7000 songs in my itunes library, but they are all in triplicate, that's 22,000 songs, so i need to delete 14,000 of them. i dont want to click on each one! how can I do this as a group?

Duplicate and triplicate Library entries after updgrading to Itunes 9.x

After Upgrading to Itunes 9.X I ended up with 2x and 3x entriess for the same song. Is there a way I can delete the Library without deleting the files and rescan the Library. There are 2 many to do it one at a time and I don't wnat to delete my music files.

I'm having issues with this too. I cannot find anywhere instructions on how to force ITunes to do a rescan of the library. This is causing problems, because it had duplicated a lot of stuff, so I did a manual clean up, and now it keeps saying it can't find things.
Quite frankly this has progressed beyond annoyance, and if there was a way to replace ITunes with something else, I would.

There are two reasons I can think of that this is happening.
1) you have either a fetch or forward set up to get all of your email into one account, but are still checking all the accounts from the phone. The answer to this is simple turn off all but the one account that is collecting from the others.
2) you have subscribed to some lists multiple times. Just follow the instructions for unsubscribing for all but one of your email addresses.

Deleting duplicates and thumbnails in iphoto or

As a 20+ yr PC user I made the fatal mistake of trying to manage my imac photos as in a PC. Running out of space on my imac, I exported all my photos to a 1TB external. Somehow, I wound up with duplicates and triplicates and even thumbnails. I purchased Duplicate Annihilator, but it looks for an exact match, is unstable, can only handle so many files and slow as molasses. Therefore, DA won't identify my thumbnails as dups. Trying to identify thumbnails in iPhoto is useless. All I want is the file size under the thumbnail when viewing photos so I can select and delete the thumbs. Multiple sort options like by name then by size would help as well. My library is over 100GB as a result. I need some serious help here. Is there another app out there that would get the job done more efficiently?

There are no duplicates in the iPhoto Library. There can be up to three versions of the pics, but no duplicates. iPhoto always preserves your original file, edits are carried out on a copy - the modified version - and there is also a tiny thumbnail for display in the iPhoto Window. Duplicate Annihilator is for searching in iPhoto, not the Finder.
When you did this:
I searched for all .jpg files and then moved them to the drive. I did not use iphoto to export. So I got every photo from every folder.
You accessed the Library via the Finder and the Finder doesn't understand the Library.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to trash the product of this process and start over.
What exactly are you trying to do:
Want to move the iPhoto Library?
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Or simply export the files from iPhoto:
Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export.
Choose the Kind: you want - Original version, Current version etc
Export
Result a single copy of the file.

Duplicates and more in my address book

my address book is creating duplicates and triplicates etc. of each entry on it's own... everyday i "look for duplicates" and merge all the records, then the next day have duplicates and triplicates again.
how do i stop this? at one point i was attempting to use .mac to sync my address book, so i could maintain it on two computers. but i stopped since i was not able to get it working properly and the wrong records were getting over written and disappearing. I suspect my problem is related, since it started around the same time.
any help is appreciated.
