Duplicates contacts and appointments

I am not liking this icloud, it is duplicating all my appointments and contacts (more than duplicating sometimes 4 or 5 or 6 times) I cannot seem to find an easy way to deal with eliminating all the duplicates. I am really po'd that I can no longer sync with outlook, so my calendar in outlook does not update with anything i enter on my other devices.
Who has some answers on dealing with this, I was loving my iphone a few weeks ago but not so much now! Help!

Can you please provide more information on the synchronization issue you are having?
What version of BlackBerry® Desktop Software do you have installed?
What is the full error message you receive when synchronizing your calendar?
Is your calendar stored locally in a .pst file on your computer or are Microsoft® Outlook® and Windows® Calendar connecting with your calendar in Windows Live™ webmail to synchronize?

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iCloud Control Panel. I found an article referencing the error message you are getting:

I had the same problem too.
Yes, you can go apply for a new AppleID, which would be <your account>@icloud.com.
Then put this new AppleID into the icloud account field.
After this action, you will not be seeing the same contacts and appointments.
But for the itunes store, you still can use the same AppleID so that you can share purchases.
My wife and I use separate icloud accounts, and then we use a 3rd appleid for our itunes store. This allowed us to have separate contacts but still share itune purchases.

My contacts and appointments have vanished

I have an iphone 3gs and a pc running Vista and use Microsoft Outlook 2007. I installed iOS5 and icloud and now all of my contacts and appointments have vanished from Outlook. What should I do? I was due to buy a mac laptop this week to replace my pc but am disappointed with Apple for creating this problem. I have looked on Google and lots of people seem to have similar problems caused by icloud but no one seems to know how to rectify it.

Thanks for replying but I already have outlook on iphone. I have been syncing it all along via usb lead with no problems. Now the info is still on phone but not pc. Strangely some appointments (very few) have remained in calendar but my contacts have all vanished.

Yes, It is possible. You can merge contacts, calendars, and bookmarks between multiple computers.
When you sync the contacts and calendars to your iPhone from the new computer you'll see the option to Merge or Replace, just choose Merge.

What's the best way to resolve duplicate contacts and batch edit?

I need some advice. I want to consolidate my contacts, remove duplicates, add tags, and then sync them across applications (Addresbook, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.) going forward. I'm finding many challenges and it seems there's not an easy way to do it.
Addressbook
* will not let you go through and review/edit/approve how it resolves duplicates
* manually finding/fixing duplicates is tedious - there's no drag and drop from one contact to the other
Yahoo Mail
* will let you review/edit duplicates
* has a tedious interface and requires importing/exporting files
* when adding a new contact doesn't always let one add a group
* no longer has a "find new contacts" feature that would auto populate new cards - so anyone's address that I rely on auto-fill from recent will not have a card yet
Gmail
* I don't have any contacts there yet.
Palm
I originally had all my contacts in Palm and there's a lot of old "X-Palm-Category1:" etc in the notes, which actually make good tags, but are hard to edit to something like "tag:business". I can if necessary try to use Palm desktop 4.
Bento
I have Bento 3 and I've tried using it to clean up some of my Addressbook contacts and start "tagging" my contacts to make searching easier. The problem there is that I can't find a way to batch process contacts. I also can't seem to add line breaks in the notes. So in Addressbook I can add tag:123 and tag:456 on separate lines, but not in Bento so any AB card edited in Bento shows it as tag:123 tag:456 on one line
Excel 2004
I have exported most of these contacts into Excel spreadsheets. (Bento will export the Apple AB into a spreadsheet). Attempting to compile and clean data in spreadsheets has it's own set of issues. In particular, the data are not laid out in columns that can be easily copy pasted into one template. For example, Yahoo contacts allow the label for the phone number to vary for the phone column instead of putting home, work, fax, and mobile numbers in separate columns.
iPhone 4
I also have an iPhone but it oddly enough doesn't display any smart groups, and it doesn't even display the phone's default "unsorted" folder. I can only find a new contact added from the phone after syncing it back to the MBP and looking in a smart folder I made for it.
Other than hiring a data entry temp to fix this as a project, can anyone think of something that I could use/do to make this easier?
I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I found out I sometimes have three or even four versions of the same file.
How did you find that out?

Hi,
is there a way to link contacts to appointments? Especially when I setup a new calendar entry to remind me to call someone, it would be very helpful to have the contact linked to the calendar entry.
Is there some way to do that? I have iCal, BusyCal on my iMac available and iCal and Pocket Informant on my iPod touch. Thx for any tip.

Try unchecking all the calendars except the one you want to sync.
Tap Calendar, swipe down from the top and tap Manage.

Duplicate contacts, unable to delete duplicate contacts and other contacts deleted

Hi, I have a bb curve 8330, I installed the destop software for mac and it seemed to work except that now all of my contacts are gone except for one that has been duplicated 5 times. Now when I try to sync again it fails, and I'm not able to delete the duplicate contacts or edit them. Is there anyway to get rid of these duplicate contacts? I can manually enter my contacts again but I would really like to be able to delete these duplicates.
I have a Mac dual G5 running osx 10.5.8.1.
Device OS release - 4.5.0.169
Device Type/Model - Blackberry 8330

I suspect there was an issue with the Address Book database on the BlackBerry and the wipe of the device may have corrected it for you.

Unknown contacts and appointments after upgrade, what happened?

I traded in my 4 for the new 5 the other day and after backing the 4 up to the cloud i setup my new 5. After it was finished i had a large number of unknown people and appointments on my phone. I have noticed also that some of my known contacts info has changed. What the heck has happened?

Contacts and appointments lost to the iCloud

I recently updated my iTunes software for my IPod and it asked if I wanted to sync my information to the iCloud. I did... then later noticed that all of my contacts and calendar appointments on my PC were gone. I just figured I would sync my Torch to the desktop manager and put them all back... Not what happened. Now the information is missing from my Outlook on my PC and from my Torch. It is however, on the iCloud. The Verizon Blackberry technicians were not able to get the information back onto my Torch. Any ideas??? Since when did Apple and Blackberry engage in a data feud and start taking hostages??

Contacts are not syncing, iphone has duplicates in contacts and groups and I don't seam to be able to over-ride or replace duplicates.

That's usually a USB timing error. I would unplug the phone and replug it in, also try different USB ports and cords if you've got 'em. Make sure your iTunes program is up to date as well

I think i did the same thing. I just got a new MacBook Air and when it synced with iCloud I had doubles of all my contacts. Now I'm missing most of my contacts as well.... Someone please help with a solution to this mistake....

How are you syncing? Are you syncing through itunes, icloud or both? Most issues come from syncing the same data/content from more than one source.

Cleaning up duplicate contacts and calendar entries

I have a Treo 700wx, that I sync with Outlook, rarely with Active Sync - mostly with wireless sync (intellisync). My input methods vary, depending upon where I am. At home, I add/delete/modify calendar entries and contacts in Outlook on my laptop; at the office, I add/delete/modify same on wirelesssync.vzw.com; on the road, I make my edits right on the Treo.
At this point, I have in some cases as many as 12 occurrences of the same calendar entry, 3 - 11 occurrences of many of my contacts, etc. I just want to get it cleaned up. Does anyone know with which system I should start and what the best approach might be? I'm afraid of losing information that I need. A diagram of how wireless sync works with each device and in what order between devices might help me...not sure. I have no problems with email duplicates, oddly. (why is that?)

Are you using iCloud as well as Outlook? You say Outlook 7, are you referring to Outlook 2007, or something else, as there is no Outlook 7. What computer OS are you using? If you go to the bottom of the screen when looking at your calendar and tap on the word Calendars, what is listed there?

Contact and calendar duplicates with activesync

I have a palm treo 700p with Verizon Wireless. I try to use Activesync with Microsoft Outlook to sync contacts, calendar and email. I use Windows XP Pro.
I keep getting duplicate contacts and calendar entries in both Outlook and Palm. How can I change my settings to prevent this.
Also wanting to know how to adjust settings to have Outlook override Palm info. I've made corrections to contacts in outlook, and want that to override what is in Palm before I sync.

How to Delete Duplicate ItemsUse the following steps to duplicate items: 1.   In Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2002, point to Current View on the View menu, and then click to change the folder view to a table type view. In Outlook 2003, point to Arrange By on the View menu, point to Current View, and then click to change the folder view to a table type view.
For example, use the following view and field combinations:

2.   Right-click a column heading, and then click Field Chooser.

6.   Click the first item in the set that you want to delete, scroll to the last item in the set that you want to delete, and then click the last item while you hold down the SHIFT key.
7.   Press DELETE to permanently delete all selected items.
