Duplicates faces in iPhoto

I had upgraded to mountain lion my iMac and i've got back my photo via assistant migration. When i want to add a new faces manually, the pop-up menu includes duplicate of names. For example: i have a three Black John in pop-up menu, but i have only one. How can i delete unnessesary? Thanx

1. Sure sounds like you imported on Library to another.
2. Defintely sounds like you imported one Library to another.
3. Again, entirely consistent with importing one Library to another.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
So, I'm not sure what you did when you restored from Time Machine, but thing like dragging the Library icon to the iPhoto icon will do this.
Trash this Library.
Restore from Time Machine using the instructions here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4927
and then just open the Library. Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
it and reinstalled OS X. After this I installed iPhoto separately (didn't come with OS X, thought that was a bit funny..?)
Nothing funny at all. iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are not part of OS X. They don't come with the operating system. The confusion sometimes arises because they do come free with a new Mac. But updating or upgrading your OS does not update or upgrade the iLife apps.

  • How do I find duplicate photos in iPhoto

I have so many duplicates in iPhoto that my library files is way too large by thousands of photos. I need to find a way to weed out duplicate photos. Anyone know how?
    Thanks,
    Barb

Where are you seeing these duplicates?  If you're seeing them from withing the iPhoto window then you can use one of the apps listed below.
If you're seeing those "duplicate" files via the Finder then you don't have duplicates.  iPhoto will have a minimum of 2 files in it's lbrary for each file imported.  So don't relay on what you see via the Finder regarding duplicates in the iPhoto library.

  • Faces in Iphoto 9

Hi, can anyone advise? I removed duplicate photos from Iphoto with Duplicate Cleaner for Iphoto. When I started Iphoto to my shock I found 10,000 faces. I removed them and emptied the Trash, only to find they were back. Thinking I had done something wrong I repeated the operation.
To no avail faces still there. What can I do? Should I upgrade to Iphoto11?
    Thanks in anticipation of success.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?  I've been looking at Duplicate Annhilator but I don't think it can do it.
    Thanks!

I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo.  I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates.  I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked.  iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected.  Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version.  It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.

  • Can't seen Faces on iPhoto, but can on ATV and iPod Touch!

So, this is very odd. I recently upgraded my Apple TV to the v3.0 software, and synced Faces across. It looks very similar to iPhoto (same cork board, for example), though I don't think the ATV has the actual Faces tech (no focussing on the face during Ken Burns slide shows, for instance).
This inspired me to update my Faces in iPhoto. But, horror of horrors, the Faces feature seemed back at 'Factory Default' -- i.e. 'click here to start adding faces'. I didn't, just in case I wiped the Faces library that is clearly still there (otherwise no sync with my ATV and iPod).
Has anyone any ideas on how to get iPhoto to recognise my Faces library again?
    Cheers,
    Richy

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I want to be able to name the face, but not have the friend's face show up on my corkboard.
    Not possible I'm afraid.
I can reject the faces that do not belong to my children, but the other children's faces keep popping up all the time,
    Try zooming into the pic.

How do you turn OFF faces in Iphoto? I hate it.

When I collapse it the face boxes go away, but next thing I know it's expanded again.
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
