Duplicates in iPhoto 11 with lion

I have tried to use Duplicate Annihilator with iphoto 11 and it found over 1700 duplicates. When I typed duplicate in the search field, as advised, it did not find any images to delete. This worked in with Snow leopard but it now not working. I have downloaded the latest copy of the software from the website and it also it says it does work with lion.
Very disappointed.

Yes I have done. But I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem and had a solution.

There are multiple ways. I am not at my Lion machine at the moment, so I am not sure I can remember them all, but here is one: Click on the "Details" button in the upper right corner of the message. If there are image attachments, the drop down menu should appear.
Or, try right click on the image. I think I saw "Add to iPhoto" in the contextual menu.

You need to re-install iphoto as it is missing parts of itself.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

I'd like to run iPhoto '09 on Lion. Tried to install on Lion from Time Machine backup. Got message iPhoto won't work because of a missing Library file. Tried to install iPhoto '09 from iLife '09 DVD. Got message that it cannot be installed on my system. iMovie runs previous versions and iTunes runs previous versions.
Why can't iPhoto run on Lion? My wife has over 10,000 photos in her library and she's taken the time to sort them into folders. I've recovered the library with the folder sort but have to use it on an external drive with a Snow Leopard system on it. The latest iPhoto ('11) has no provision for organizing into folders. I'd really like to have everything in one place with one OS (Lion) and two iPhoto apps '09 and '11 and I suppose 2 photo libraries. I've been trying to resolve this ever since iPhoto '11 came out and I installed it. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to answer the question " Where are my folders?" brian25

I tried to check the Library setup on iMovie and iTunes. The iMovie Libraries seem to be part of the applications and my iTunes applications have become Russian so I have another problem. I tried to install iPhoto '09 again from my iLife '09 disk. When I selected "Custom Install" to load iPhoto only, the box I got said " A later version of this application is already installed" The iPhoto item which I would choose for a custom install says "skip". Yesterday I ignored this and went on with an install. The final screen said "Installation Successful" There was no iPhoto '09 on my hard drive. As far as I can tell, you cannot load iPhoto '09 from a Time Machine backup. When I downloaded iPhoto '!! from the app store I should have duplicated it and saved a copy to an external hard drive for safekeeping and then proceeded with installing iPhoto '11 on my hard drive.I suppose when the Thunderbolt concept is fully realized and monster Thunderbolt external droves are in common use this will seem a lot easier. I have rebuilt my iPhoto '09 library and have it on a hard disk that has a bootable copy of Snow Leopard and a working copy of iPhoto '09 also. I have just upgraded from Leopard to Lion (via Snow Leopard) because I could no longer order photo calendars with iphoto 7.1.5. However, I still have iphoto 7.1.5 and need to upgrade this. From the App store it looks as though I cannot get iphoto 9.5.1 due to the incompatibility with Lion. I was recemmended not to upgrade beyond Lion due to the age of my iMac computer (2008 version) by Stormfront staff.
What is the best iphoto to upgrade to and how do I do this e.g. iLife '09 or '11, or are there any other 'stand-alone' versions of iphoto that would be compatible? How do I know whether my computer is capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion? I definitely want to be able to make photo calendars, books and cards.

My solution, which is not much, is to restart iPhoto and it then connects to the Internet. This has been an ongoing unsolved problem.

When you would "import" what?
two files would show up in "images".
Do you mean in the All Images search in the Finder?
IF so:
1.Never interact with photos that are in iPhoto via the All Images Search. This does not understand the iPhoto Library and it's very, very easy to damage the library this way.
2. What you were seeing was the original file you imported and the thumbnail created by iPhoto for viewing on the iPhoto Window. That thumbnail is not designed for user access.
What are you trying to do ultimately?

Will iPhoto '09 work with Lion? Since I upgraded to Lion when I open a Facebook album in iPhoto I get the message "An error occurred with the publication of (album name)". The album was submitted successfully long ago. One of a few new quirks since the upgrade.

Crap. I think I might be out of luck. I'm trying to put it on a 2011 Mac Mini. And the new iPhoto is such crap by comparison.
I wonder if they dumbed it down so people would buy Aperture.

Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.

I had duplicated contacts on my old iPhone. Went with Lion and iCloud, and the duplicates were gone. New iPhone yesterday and now all my contacts are duplicated again. How do I resolve?

When I first signed up with iCloud (and still had Mobile Me), my contacts all double or tripled, or more in my contact list. When I went with Lion and fully integrated iCloud, that issue resolved itself. I got a new iPhone yesterday, and when it was up and running, everything was fine. This morning, I notice that my contacts are all duplicated again. My personal contact is in my phone 10 times. How do I resolve this? My iTunes sync setting does not have me syning my contacts, it should just be in iCloud. Thanks for any help.

When you sync the iPad, do you have mail settings configured to sync to the iPad? You could have different settings on your computer that might be affecting the email set up on the iPad when you sync.

The guide to bootcamp assistant states that bootcamp can only be installed on a drive with a single partition. New Macs with Lion preinstalled have two partitions - the second is a recovery partition. How do I install Bootcamp?

Late in August 2011 I took delivery of a new 27" iMac with Lion preinstalled. I need to run Windows as well. Following Apple's written suggestion, I printed off the then current 12 pages of the document "Bootcamp Installation & Setup Guide" which clearly stated that the hard drive you were going to install on had to have on it, before install, a maximum of one partition. Using finder and disk utility I determined that there was only one partition. Unbeknownst to me, there was (is) an additional hidden (from those two pieces of software) partition on the disk. As of machines delivered new with Lion preinstalled, Apple has begun to include a "recovery partition". In that partition there is a copy of the software necessary to reinstall Lion via a download from the Apple App Store. Not knowing the partition was there, I cranked up "Bootcamp Assistant" which nicely offered to repartition my hard drive creating a "Bootcamp Partition" in addition to the existing. I told it how big to make each and hit the do it button, subsequently destroying my operating system. Oh, it very nicely told me, after the damage was done, how many partitions were REALLY on the disk and that I could not install Bootcamp cause there were too many partitions.
Luckily the the Recovery Partition, which at that point I knew existed, was not harmed and after doing some research on another compter, I used it to once again download Lion from the App Store and reinstall. So, I have recovered but am still stuck with the problem: how do I install Bootcamp in this new environment?

First you need to seriously back up your Mac.
A clone is an exact duplicate of your existing Mac HDD. Merely copying and pasting a drive will not make a bootable backup. In case of problems you can boot from an Ext HDD clone and use the utilities to repair, reformat, or clone the Ext HDD back to the internal Mac HDD. While Time machine back ups are easy you can not boot from it. The best thing to have for any kind of problem is a bootable clone backup on an external drive. Some even have two external backup drives in case one fails. There are two good apps for cloning named SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner.
In dealing with the recovery partition a simple approach is to clone the Mac partition to an external disk then re-partition the Mac to a single partition (GUID partition table) . Then clone the external disk clone back to the Mac. You will now have only one Partition and Boot Camp assistant sould not object.
Some have recommended getting rid of the recovery partition while others have advised not to do this. If you have the Lion USB Thumb Drive you do not need a recovery partition so can discard it without concern. There is another way to get rid of the recovery partition if you decide to do it but first be sure to have a backup of your Mac ( I know I sound like a nagging mom but many dead computers have been saved by this simple precaution).
Use Disk Utility.
1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.

With icloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from camera roll. I run an older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. Can I transfer pics from i stream to camera roll to allow a non-icloud back up to my PPC? Precious photos are close to 30 day cut-off

With i cloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from Camera Roll to make space knowing I would have them backed up on icloud via Photo Stream. I now find that my older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. I have an ipad3 too, which of course does. I want to copy photos from Photo Stream back to Camera Roll on the phone so that I can back up "old school" to iphoto on my ancient mac. The controls seem to suggest that as an option but when I select multiple photos in Photo Stream and select "Save to Camera Roll" the photos do not appear on Camera Roll as expected. I am running close to the 30 day limit and do not want to lose hundreds of precious photos (or have to email them to myself individually). Can the ipad3 help at all? Any ideas good people? Dan

If only it were that easy Winston. I connect with a USB cable, iphoto opens and I can only see the photos in Camera Roll, not Photo Stream. There does not seem to be a way of aceessing other files in the phone from iphoto and, as in my initial message, I can not transfer the photos to Camera Roll on the phone. My iphone and ipad software is up to date, but my iphoto is '08 version 7.1.5 with my mac running 10.5.8 which is the best I can do on the PPC without messing everything up. I dont have the dough for a new mac or I would have gone for that option...am I stuck?

How do i find duplicates in iPhoto?

i took a ton of photos while in Paris both with my Nikon D7000 and my iPhone I imported them into iPhoto 11 and how they're all jumbled together but I think there are duplicates, how do i find them?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run Option #4 to rebuild the database

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
