Duplicates in library, which is in album, (more complicated)

So I had 3 massive libraries that I merged into 1 using iPhoto Library Manager. However on my first attempt I neglected to check the option to not import duplicates and replace duplicates in existing albums. I had attempted a second time and was successful, however that library has since been damaged and is more or less un-usable.
So reverting back to my original attempt. I have an album structure that is all set and good to go. However I forgot that there were many duplicates and I'd like to trim down the size of my library. I am aware of duplicate annihilator and would love to find a way (efficient way) to rid myself of the duplicates while not being destructive to the albums and/or being able to re-link the albums to their originals.
I'm thinking that the tools I will be needing to use are Duplicate annihilator and iPhoto Library Manager. I think that it's the method that I can't figure out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I wasn't dealing with a library in excess of 40,000 photos this wouldn't be too difficult to do manually. Thanks for any suggestions.
Nathan

There are two apps, actually one app and one Applescript script, for finding and removing duplicate photos from iPhoto. They are:
Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - free
The Applescript is a wee bit slower than AH but can do essentially the same thing, identify the duplicates.  Just create two smart albums:  one with Description contains "duplicated" and one with Description contains "original". Then you can compare the two and delete the one you don't want.

  • Duplicate photos in my photo library and another photo album?

So I don't know if this has to do with the ios 6 update I just did on my phone (most likely it is), but today i synced my phone like usual. I have two albums on my phoone besides the Camera roll. I have the photo library ( which i think all iphones have) & one album i called "uploaded photos". As you may know, the photo library has the same pictures as the ones in my "uploaded photos" album. So each one has 300 photos in them, but for some reason when I synced it today, the photos all got doubled/ duplicated. so instead of 300 photos, theres 600. There's just a duplicate of each picture? It's really bothering me because I don't want double the photos in each album, thats too much! I hope this makes sense, but does any one know how to fix it?

  • How can i find all included pictures in the Online-Library which are not in a album?

    Hi
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 with (Revel). My question ist how can i find all included pictures in the Online-Library which are not in a album? I would like only to have pictures in Library which are included in a online album.

    Hi there,
I'm afraid I don't quite understand your question. All images are in your Library and only those you specifically select from that Library would be in an Album. What platform are you using? Revel Mac, Elements, web browser, etc?

  • HT4236 How do I delete the photos in my "Photo library" and "Iphone photo" albums?

    Help in deleting photos
I can look at my photos on my Iphone like a hard drive and copy and paste the photos to my computer. I can then delete a batch at a time on the Iphone camera roll.  However, how do I delete the 242 photos in my "photo library" album and the 242 duplicate photos in my "Iphone photo" album? When I click on the arrow box icon in the upper right corner of my phone, I can click on a photo, but the delete icon is not available.
I am trying to free up more space on my phone and I want to delete these photos that I have already downloaded to my computer.

Check and see if they synced from more than one computer app.
In itunes, Photos> Check mark "Sync Photos from". See what else is in the drop down menu. (i.e. iphoto, pictures folder, Aperture, choose folder, etc.). If you get the option to: Select Albums, Events, Faces and automatically include. Check mark that, and see if any blue album, or events are ticked. If so, uncheck mark and go down and click Apply/Sync.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • IPhoto 11 duplicates iPhoto library when I open it in Finder

The other night was on my wife's iMac and needed to grab a photo from my iPhoto library and upload it to the internet.  I tried to open the connection to my Airbook where the photo resides and was prompted to login to connect to the iPhoto library.  I used my Apple ID  and logged in so I could browse my Airbook for the photo.  When I tried to open iPhoto it immediately tried to duplicate the entire iPhoto library to my wife's iMac, which isn't at all what I wanted.
I stopped the duplication and selected the "Disconnect" that shows up in the upper right corner of the screen when viewing my Airbook in her Finder window.  All seemed fine.
But now, every time I try to open iPhoto on my Airbook it creates a copy.  Just like it did when I was on my wife's computer.
So I think this is a sharing issue, the iPhoto can't handle one user logging in from multiple computers so it's trying to duplicate the library.  My question is: How do I make it stop?  Anytime I try to upload a photo to a website by browsing to my iPhoto library, it generates another copy.   I've disconnected from browsing for my Airbook from her computer.  What more do I need to do to make iPhoto know that only one computer is modifying the library?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Thanks for your reply, Terence.  Please note that this isn't exactly two users, it's one user Apple ID from two separate Mac computers.
I know the library is duplicating because a small rectangular window opens up that says "Duplicating iPhoto Library" with an x next to it that I can click on to stop the duplication.  Also, I've had up to 4 copies of the iPhoto library entitled iPhoto Libary copy, iPhoto Library Copy 2, etc.
It filled my hard drive and I couldn't open iPhoto because there was "not enough space to copy iPhoto Library."
I've tried to use File, Open to open the library, tried to use Command O to open it, and tried to click on it to open it.  All attempts to open it through Finder or browse to it through an upload window result it it duplicating the entire library.
I never got a message that the Library was locked.

  • I've made a collection of songs in garageband, and have them now as .aif files in my itunes library under the same album name. How do I trim the beginnings and endings of the tracks so that my album flows better?

I "shared" the songs I made in garageband to itunes. Now the songs have some extra time of silence after they end, which makes the album i'm trying to put together feel more broken. I want to make the tracks flow perfectly through each other. I want to do it permanently, also, so that when i share the album it doesn't have space in it.
In the past I have imported all the songs into one garageband file and arranged them so they slightly overlap as a continuous track but then i didn't know how to split them back up so the tracks would still be actually separated. I can't find any information on this. I know I can sort of cut the songs in the "get info" options in itunes, but the song still lists as longer, itunes just makes it jump early.
    Thanks

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

  • Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?

Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?
In other words, because the MacBook Air only has 120 gbs of hard drive space & my old hard drive, from a Lenovo, has 500 gbs of hard drive space (and I have over 120 gbs of music), I’m looking to manage my iTunes music from the external hard drive permanently. Upon attempting to access the iTunes library held on the external hard drive the following message comes up: “The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file”.  Is there a way to get around this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

You will have to engage a split library which means you will have to start answering questions on this forum because you will need to learn a lot about how iTunes works in order not that have a big mess at the end of it all.  It also won't be easy when the time comes to relocate it all to different drives.
You can go to advanced preferences and turn off organize media and copy to items to media folder when adding items to library.  Next read about how to selectively consolidate items to the external drive.

"...selected the new tracks directly in iTunes, Control-clicked on the selection, and saw that now you can consolidate selected items." - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090919000326840
Remember that when you start iTunes without the external drive turned on iTunes will present you with a bunch of broken links.  If you have automatic downloads enabled with iCloud you may have to turn that off to prevent iTunes from repopulating your drive trying to deal with those "missing" tracks.
If you add tracks in bunches to iTunes and want them to go to different media folders you will need to either add them by holding down the option key while dragging if the desired media folder is not the one set in preferences, or by changing the media folder in preferences.  Changing media folder preferences only applies to new files added, not old ones.
Okay, I am going to stop typing because you might just reply to me, "Oh, okay, forget it," and I don't need the exercise.

  • Does my ipad make duplicates when i put photos in albums?!

    Hi,
Does my iPad make duplicates when i put them in albums? They apear on filmrol(photolist?) and when i try to delete it says: "delete everywhere?"
Another aspect (probably a bigger concern) of why this has my concern, is that it says i have 7.2 GB of photo's while i only have a 1000 or so photos on it! Even a digital illiterate like me knows 7.2MB per photo isnt normal. Most of them taken on a digital camera btw..
Can someone tell me whats going on and how i can solve/prevent this problem?
    Thanks in advace

Yes. using the CCK, it transfers the compressed jpeg which should be about 2.5MB plus the raw file which according to your camera link is around 5MB.  So the math makes sense.
The following thread deals with the Raw portions of the images, and gives a few suggestions of how to get rid of them on the iPad.

  • How to Connect to my Aperture Library, which is on a Different Hard Drive?

In FCP X, the only option I get when I click on the still camera icon is iPhoto, which I don't use.
In order to avoid conflicts between FCS and FCP X, I have installed them on different start up drives.  My Aperture software and library are on the start up drive containing FCS, as they always have been.  The FCP X drive is the new start up drive.
When I start up on the FXP X drive, how do I gain access to my aperture library which is on the other drive?  If I can't gain access, how to I add a copy of the library and software to the new FCP X start up drive?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Ashley
iPhoto will have created duplicates and hidden your originals. You need to find your masters from the iPhoto Library - Right-Click and select “Show Package Contents”
Older versions of iPhoto uses an Originals folder and in later versions; Masters. It’s not a good idea to go messing with the structure as it could corrupt the iPhoto Library. Apple has made this structure for good reason; so that you can always use the revert command to go back to an original, even if you have edited in iPhoto using cropping or red eye removal, for example.
However, if as you indicate you have no further use for iPhoto, you could consider moving your originals/masters to a new folder structure (iPhoto automatically creates dated sub-folders) and then importing to Lightroom.

  • Duplicate iTunes library entry

Apple support is awful and unhelpful.  Do I really have to go to an Apple store (miles away and in areas where parking is expensive) just to find a solution?  (Rhetorical question, no need to reply to this.)
I've searched for an solution in support/communities but found nothing for this particular problem.
My iTunes library on MacBook Pro was imported to the MacBook Pro from an older laptop.  I still have the older laptop. I do not listen to music on the older laptop and I do not use it for synching devices.
The new laptop now has duplicate music library entries and I can't tell which is the original and which is the duplicate.
Likewise, I've lost a link to a lot of music when I deleted duplicate entries.  (Apple, this was a stupid design.)   So…anyone got any solutions to help me RID my iTunes library of the duplicates listings WHILE maintaining a link to the original music?  And where do I find the index so I can get my deleted files back?
    Thanks.

This is what you should have done.  You can tell us what you actually did:
If you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to choose a library, then select the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Downloaded OS 10.10. Was instructed to download iPhone 9.6. After 9.6 was downloaded iPhoto requested to update photo library which it will not do. How do I upgrade the photo library?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
