Duplicates in Organizer

Recently upgraded to PSE 8.  When I opened the Organizer this morning, it imported about 200 photos. They were placed next to and appear identical to photos already in the Organizer.  The Properties show that all are duplicates of existing photos (same name, same size, same date, etc.)  The only difference appears to be that the newer ones are located in a "Photoshop Express" directory/subfolder.  Is this standard?
I didn't know I used Photoshop Express (or for what) and haven't used or downloaded any photos recently, which makes me think something is occuring automatically.  What would be the consequences of deleting the Photoshop Express directory altogether?  Is this something that is needed or can be turned on or off?
Thanks for any guidance.

Okay, I gave up and started a whole new catalog. Rather than use the feature that watched folders and automatically adds photos, I'm carefully adding them one folder at a time with the "get photos" function. I've now done almost two year's worth and now I'm starting to see the SAME problem creep in. There's a group of photos now in the middle of my collection where each one shows up twice -- once with the real file name and once with the shortened version with the ~ in the name. Can anyone help! This is driving me nuts!

How do i get rid of duplicates on my PC?
No articles on this subject help or have answers that helped!!!!

I had to go through and delete duplicated bookmarks. After syncing up computers, turn only one on, one with duplicates. Organize, remove, relabel the bookmarks. Open tools(XP) or Firefox upper left(win7) options,Sync, manage account, reset sync, replace all other devices with this computer's data.
    Seemed to work for me.
Sync instructions could be a lot clearer about this.
I am not clear how syncing works when 2 computers are on all the time.

  • Duplicates in my catalog PSE6 Organizer

I am finding dozens and dozens of duplicates in my organizer catalog for PSE6. It's the exact same photo - same file name, date, and size. Only one appears on disk. It's odd because periodically PSE6 says it found new photos that I was quite certain were already in the catalog. I guess that's where the duplicates are coming from. Is there a way to weed them out?

  • How to find duplicate images in Elements Organizer

I have been using many versions of photoshop elements and edited many of my files. So, now I have very many duplicates, near duplicates, and versions of the same photo. I think I have over 20,000 photos and they are taking up too much space. I tried using a duplicate file remover and it removed several thousand, but I still see many duplicates when I run photoshop elements 11. I am tempted to not use the organizer any more and just rely on a folder browser. Does anyone have a solution to this mess?

  • Duplicate photos in Organizer 9 on Mac

Just upgraded to PSE9 for Mac, and Organizer seems to have a huge problem, which I didn't have with Bridge. It takes Organizer forever to open, and when it does there are at least 3 copies of all the photos, at least the hundreds I've checked on. What could be wrong? I didn't knowingly import them that often. Can I just uninstall and reinstall to fix this?  My catalog says there are over 112000 items, so too many to delete by hand, and I'm worried I might actually delete the photo, not just the thumbnail. I don't see anywhere it even lets you look for duplicates. Also, fortuneately when I look in My Pictures on my harddrive I only see one copy. This does indicate, I hope, that it didn't copy the photos themselves, but just generated a thumbnail.  My Imac is running 10.6.6. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

First, I want to thank you both for your help. I did make a new catalog, and only imported one folder of photos so far. It didn't import triplicate copies as before, but there were random photos that were duplicates. The duplicates had gold stars on them, as if I had rated them, which I hadn't, so that was weird. Finally, I got through to support which I accessed by selecting Photoshop since there was no Photoshop Elements choice. It ended up being the right choice, but I wish they indicated PSE could use it too. The man was very helpful, and connected to my computer to see what was going on. He ended up deleting the large catalog I had created with all my photos, and kept the new one for me to start over.  He advised me to make numerous smaller catalogs, less than 30,000 items in each, instead of one large one.  This will speed it up coniderably he said, suggesting I catalog them by year maybe.  Also, my computer knowledge is limited, I admit, and I have a 1 TB external hd as a photo storage. I also have time machine running on it, and he thought the duplicates maybe coming from the backups. I suppose this is possible, but it was this way when I was using Bridge, and it never duplicated anything, also, wouldn't I have way more than three duplicates as it backs up everyday?  I have ordered a seperate hd now just for photos with an 800 firewire connection, hopefully this will be better anyway. Hopefully these suggestions will have corrected it.

  • Find Duplicate pictures in Organizer

I imported the same pictures from my camera, and put them in several locations. Is there any way in the Organizer to find all pictures which are duplicated, based on visual content?
I know that I can search for up to 4 specific pictures based on visual similiarities, but I want to find all duplicates that are in the catalog.

    Hi EdBjore:-
The visual similarity result gives you the percentage of the similarity between all the images in the organizer. In organizer you can select an image and drag it to the top bar i.e. where all the star rating options are present. One another way to do so is by selecting an image, perform righ click and say suggest autostack. This will suggest you to stack the similar images. After these operations you can delete the duplicate images.

  • Is there a way to Quickly organize, consolidate & save the Original (Pictures, Movies, etc.) yet delete all duplicate (Pictures, Movies, etc.)?

Is there a way to Quickly organize, consolidate & save the Original (Pictures, Movies, etc.) yet delete all duplicate (Pictures, Movies, etc.)?

I wanted to first thank you for this, as this is the only workaround literature that seems to be floating around out there.  With that said, I know it is a big ask, but is there any way that you could create a video showing step by step how to do what you do?  I have several tracks that are stuck in waiting mode, and if left in itunes, will never upload or match...they only cause the upload process to hang up and restart.  I've tried leaving it for days...I've tried converting the files, signing in and out of itunes (and itunes match), updating itunes match, and I tried your technique...unfortunately to no avail.  Perhaps I didn't do your technique correctly.  I used audacity to reverse the audio.
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
    Thanks

How do I organize a huge (120GB+, but alot of duplicates) music library with iTunes?  Thanks!

If you do not want the duplicate files, maybe the best thing to do first is to eliminate as many duplicates as you can..
You can use iTunes: View/Show Duplicate Items
Or you could use one a script

  • PSE v13 on mac, organizer spontaneously adds images duplicates.  How do I stop this from happening?

just purchased PSE v13 on mac, primarily using the organizer
issue - Organizer spontaneously adds image duplicates.
How do I stop this from happening?

I enter misc. items in each metadata file, ie. document title, author, description, keywords, copyright notice, etc.  Each image has it's own metadata file, with unique keywords, which are unique to that image. The keywords then show up on the right side of PSE organizer under 'imported keyword tags'.  Then I can select a keyword, unique to that image and wa...la... that image only appears in organizer.  I have been doing this for years (like probably 10). But this is the first time I have experienced the duplication issue.
Not adding any auto-adjustments in Organizer as far as I know.
The names are not duplicated in organizer, but appear as ie. scnr0122.jpg and scnr0122-1.jpg.  But the '-1' is not found on my server.  Apparently they are being added from another source.  Is it possible they are being pulled from a cloud server, ie. creative cloud or revel??  I do have the same files on those cloud servers, but am not intentionally duplicating the import.
here is an interesting side item.
Did you know that a man was convicted of murder because of the info found in the metadata of his files?

  • How to organize duplicate photos

it seems my photos magically went into faces mode and now my iphoto library is populated with unwanted close up faces.  how do i get rid of them?  what is the best way to get rid of my duplicate photo's?  it seems a lot of photo's have triple or quadrupled on me.
    thanks,

It sounds ike you imported an old library into this iibray  --  NEVER import one library into another one - it does not work and creates a massive mess
If you are moving to a new system and still have the old library abailable drag the bad library to the trash and Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Duplicate titled dvd's won't load in organizer

I have multiple DVD's to import to Elements Organizer.  They are all titled the same (vts_01_1_vob) though they all have different content.  Organizer says "this file already exists in catalog," though it acutally doesn't.  How can I override this so I can import all of my content?

    stevem
Typically I ask what version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
The answer would appear to be the same nonetheless.
The Elements Organizer contains only thumbnails to the originals at a computer hard drive location.
You cannot have files with the same name in the same location.
Rather than rename all the VTS_01_1.VOB, before you import any into the Elements Organizer browser area,
    a. store each VTS_01_1.VOB in a different location - one document, one pictures, one videos or more practically...
    b. store each VTS_01_1.VOB in its own folder in the same place, like Videos.
Please give it a try and determine if that works for you.

  • HT1417 i have about 1000 songs in my library and about another 300 with the ! to the left of the song AND a bunch of duplicates. How can i get rid of all the songs with the ! and my duplicates and totally organize my library at the same time without check

    everything in post

If the media is in the standard iTunes folder structure or something similar then I have a script called FindTracks that can often repair things. For more details on how it works see this thread.
For duplicates I have another script called DeDuper that cleans up, while preserving playlist membership, highest rating and merging play counts. Please heed the warning to backup first and review this background thread on what it does.

  • How do I combine duplicate keyword tags in the organizer ?

While organizing my photos I realized I made duplicate keyword tags for the same person. Is there a way that I can combine two keyword tags for one person  into one ?

Do you mean you assigned two slightly different keywords to the same person ? Like personA  and personB ? If that is the case, select all persoB, assign also person A. Then delete 'personB' keyword.
