Duplicates in Photos

Is there way to use the new Photos App to search for duplicates in my photo library?
TIA

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately at this time there are no tools within Photos to search for and remove duplicates and no suitable workarounds to the problem.
I understand that PowerPhotos will have this feature when it's released shortly.

no - you simply have to select the option to print mucliples of a photo on a page
select the photo and go to the file menu ==> print - select the printer, paper size and print size and click customize - in the tool bar click on the settings icon (the gear looking thingy) and select "multiple of the same photo per page" and the preview will reflect this option showing a full page of the selected size photos

  • Duplicate 'invisible' photos are being created when I download from camera

    Hi all,
Recently spotted a weird thing happening when I download images from my Nikon D200. I use Image Capture, but not sure if that's the problem. Hopefully you guys can help.
Basically, when burning a DVD of images for a friend, I noticed that if I dragged over the folder that contained the downloaded images, a new disc was created in Toast, and the disc size matched the size of the folder as seen in the Finder. However, if I created a blank disc and just copied over the folder contents themselves, not the actual folder, the disc size was 1.5GB smaller.
So, I fired up TinkerTool and turned on Invisible Files in the Finder, and was shocked to discover that throughout my hard drive, in the folders I download photos into from my camera there are duplicate invisible 'photos' with a period at the start of their name (rendering them invisible) that are the size of a full high res photo each - essentially doubling the size of the folder. If I delete a photo in the Finder, it's invisible counterpart doesn't get deleted with it - so what the heck are they? They're taking up GB upon GB upon GB of space on my drive and I can't even see them unless I use TinkerTool.

I am not a software engineer, but I doubt if these are left over temp files.
More than likely, capture keeps both - the original and the colour managed files. Why hidden, no idea. Maybe it's the camera telling it to do so, maybe some software can "see" both depending on the colour profile selected. Maybe, indeed it's a bug in the software. The best way to find out is to send a bug report and Apple will answer.
If you are using the Spyder you should not colour manage the images at all.
the only profile you should use it the Spyder one.
Colour profile is basically a "translator" of RGB colour values, which displays (and prints) the images with a specific "colour shift".
Each time you acquire an image there is an error built in into the image (no device is perfect), then when displayed on a screen, this screen will introduce another colour shift, then the printer will shift the colours again, and you may end up with wrong colours in the output; and that's where the calibration and colour profiling comes in.
Spyder will scan your screen and adjust it so that the colours are as true as possible. If will not fix any of the camera problems, but at least on a screen you get exactly the colours that the camera took.
(Calibrating a camera is normally not needed, but it can be done too.)
Now, if your screen in Spyder'ed (?) then any software you use to edit the shots in should be set to use the Spyder colour profile, otherwise, you'll not see the true representation of your colours.
When it comes to printing... don't even get me started Most commercial printing joints will supply you with their machine's profile, for home printers - trawl the Internet for the profiles or spend A LOT of money on print calibration.
I did check and I have no hidden files, I do not ask Capture to colour manage my shots.
I also never shoot JPEGs, RAW only. Later if I know I don't want an image for editing, but want to keep it, I dump it to a JPG and delete the RAW.
A silly question here, why not use the Nikon's provided software to download the pix?
    Hope that helps a little.

  • Why does it take so long for iPhoto 6 to duplicate a photo?

I've got 3GB of RAM and it takes 10 seconds for iPhoto to simply duplicate a photo in my library. It is also a relatively lengthy process on my 20" iMac.
I select "Duplicate" from the menu or command-D, and then the "importing photo" screen comes up, there's a progress bar, and it takes WAY TOO LONG.
I've rebuilt my library many times, fixed permissions, converted all my color profiles to the generic one that iPhoto will place nice with, etc.
It didn't use to take this long, and I only have 7000 photos in my library!
Power Mac Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

With my setup it takes 3 seconds to duplicate a 3MB file in iPhoto. A lot will depend on the processor speed (we're the same) memory (again the same) and free space on the HD (I've got much more than 20G). My Mac, however, is a G5 and that may be the difference.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    - If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
    - If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

  • I've got duplicates of photos in "Photos", Photo stream, Iphoto etc. what is going on?

I've go duplicates of photos on my devices in "Photos" and iPhoto that include icloud, Photo stream, camera roll, events, etc. etc. how do I manage theese duplicate files of photos?

Welcome to the Apple Community bissellfl.
If you mean the same photos appear in all these places, then that's what is supposed to happen. If you mean you have more than one of each photo in each album, then you' em possibly added them manually and had them add automatically. You'll need to remove them manually.

In your description you say the first document opens as the Title you gave it.
Templates always open as Untitled so it sounds like you have saved a regular document, perhaps into your templates folder which is possible.
Since you have already worked on it and it has been previously saved, Lion will now Save for you and Save a Version is available
The other document does open as Untitled so sounds like a real template and as Peggy has pointed out will not have either Revert nor Save a Version until you Save it and have changed something in it.
This is a classic example of just how Apple's supposedly "simplification" of the process, is leading to confusion of what has happened. That the conditions and resulting actions from those conditions is so convoluted says it all.
It all reminds me of the Monty Python Life of Brian sketch with the "simplified" John Cleese instructions to the class, as to if you have a brother in an older dorm whether to hang your hat and bag on the hooks provided. The trouble is Apple does not get the joke, that it is transforming itself into a frequently self contradictory bumbling bureacracy. The price of unchallenged self appointed geniushood.
The incoherent half baked stumbling juggernaut has reached new triumphs with its edict on enforced Sandboxing on developers when it is unable to follow even its own instructions.

  • Managing duplicate files, photos etc

What programs can i download for my macbook pro that will check for and remove duplicate files, photos etc? Which are the easiest to use?

You want a program that will compare the actual files themselves, not just by their name.
    I can recommend DeCloner.

  • Duplicate/Triplicate photos uploaded to Facebook albums from iphoto

When I upload photos from Iphoto to Facebook, the same photo is uploaded two or even three times, and I then have to delete the duplicate & triplicate photos. How can I prevent this from happening? Thank you very much!

Give renewing your iPhoto preference file a shot -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

I have tried exporting a photo, importing it again but the same thing happens.

  • Duplicate imported photos on the iPad

Regarding duplicate imported photos on the iPad:   Is there an automated way to detect and delete duplicate photos, specifically imported from the camera connection kit.  Assume no iTunes syncing, mac or PC.  First party solution preferred, third party app welcome.
Consider the senario, Camera card contents are imported, the card is reinserted into the camera without deleting previous import, new photos are taken, "skip duplicates" is ignored on new import, all photos on the card are imported, resulting in duplicates.
Happy to add additional information, just ask.

    Michael Superczynski wrote:

The iPad's file system is hidden and not accessible unless perhaps you have jailbroken the iPad.
Not jailbroken. The OP asked about photos that were imported, not sync'ed.
Quote: "I've been using the iPad to collect photos from my digital cameras.
I have a few thousand of such photos on my iPad."
The import photo albums generated using the CCK are accessable just like the "Saved Photos" album.

  • How do I duplicate a photo in iPhone 5 so I can edit the copy but keep original?

How do I duplicate a photo in iPhone 5 so I can edit the copy but keep original?
I see where it lets me click "Copy" but where in my library do I paste the copy?
    Thanks!

    This is rather interesting...
I could sweat that in iOS 6. When you click Save it gave you the option to keep a copy of original or just save the new picture in replace of the old.
Now what it does, it saves the "edit" in the file. But when you go to make another change, you can see the original picture still.
At least I did when I cropped it.

  • Must duplicate my photo because "this photo was previously edited with another application..."

I've always used both iPhoto and Adobe Photoshop Elements for editing my photos. Previously, I could edit in the external application (Adobe PE), save the photo (back to iPhoto), go back into iPhoto and then still edit that photo within iPhoto if I wanted to.
Recently, though, if I edit a photo in Adobe PE and save it, if I attempt to edit it further within iPhoto, I am warned: "Image Cannot Be Edited: This photo was previously edited with another application or with an early version of iPhoto. Duplicate this photo to edit it."
I don't WANT to keep duplicating my photos - it's a stupid waste and I just want to tweak my previously edited photo.
When did iPhoto start requiring duplication in order to edit a photo that had been worked on in another program?
    And why?
And is there any way I can change this or get around it?
    Thanks.

Where are you seeing these Jpegs when you duplicate the Raw?
Duplications are virtual. Try this test.
Select a Raw and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original
That brings you to the Master file in the iPhoto Library. It's selected.
Apply a label to it - In the Finder: File -> Label.
Now, back to the iPhoto Window and gp Photos -> Duplicate
You now have a second snap in the Event  -> My Photo - version 2
Select Version 2 and go  File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original
Notice that it brings you to the same file.
So, you've duplicated the Photo, not the file.
