Duplicates in playlist, replacing with non dupe?

I couldn't find the answer for this specifically, but might have overlooked it:
I'm including lots of details about this just to cover all the bases I can to help find a solution.
I recently got iTunes Match to make my life easier, but it's hit hiccups for the last few days, including a gruelingly long upload process. Now that that's done, I decided to put my iPad and iPhone on Match. First, though, I wanted to backup the list of songs on them by making a playlist, in case Match erased the content on them (like it says it will do) and then hits an error.
I made the playlists on the devices, but iTunes wouldn't sync them, nor even show the playlists under the Device>iPad/iPhone tab. It showed other playlists, just not ones made on the devices. I worked around that by selecting all the songs on the devices in iTunes, then made a new playlist on the device from the selected lists, then exported the playlists. When I imported the lists, iTunes said that some songs weren't imported because they couldn't be found.
When I scroll through the list, maybe 100 songs out of the 2000 on it are listed as duplicates with the little cloud-struck-through symbol. Looking through the iTunes library, indeed, these songs are dupes.
However, what I'm needing to do is see if there's an easy way to replace the dupes with their non-dupe brothers before I go through and delete the dupes from my system. I tried a test of deleting a dupe from iTunes and it deleted it from the playlist, too, thus meaning I can't go through and delete all the dupes without losing the song from the playlist. Is there an easy way to batch replace duplicates with the non-dupes? If not, I'll have to go through and manually replace them one at a time, which seems like it ruins a bit of the easy concept of Match.
Any help is massively appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Scott,
When I sync a playlist with duplicates they show up on the iPhone.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and iPhone software.

  • Lost playlists replaced with selection.

When I logged on to my computer this morning I got a message in itunes which I vaguely glanced at saying something about a new playlist made from a selection of songs.
I clicked yes and now all my playlists bar the new one and one other have dissapeared.
How do I get them back !?!

What version of PPRO are you running?
Does the content for the two projects have the same filenames (like C0000.ext, C0001.ext, etc.)?
Have you moved the content used in the first project?
At any point when you opened the first project, has PPRO prompted you to relink to the media?
While user error seems like the most likely scenario, if you're running PPRO CC (7.0), I'm thinking there's a possibility that Relink could have mapped to the wrong body of clips.
Even if my hypothesis is bogus, a solution could be to make all the content in the first project offline, then relink it to the correct content. If, that is, the sequence in the first project reflects your edits from that project rather than the second on, which is not clear to me from your post.

  • HT1473 How do I sync new purchased music onto my ipod without deleting/replacing with current library. I recently changed computers and new library doesnt have any of my playlists either.

    Hi All:
I recently got a new computer, authorized new one with itunes and when I go into my library it has none of my playlists that I originally created. Also, I purchased new songs on itunes and as I did in the past, I connected my ipod Nano to automatically sync to get the new music and hopefully all my playlists would go into my itunes library and I received a message asking am I sure I want to delete all my ipod contents and replace with library contents? I canceled and dont want to loose my existing ipod collection as I have more songs on there than my itunes library plus my playlists are all on my ipod.  What I want to do is sync new songs to ipod and sync my playlists from ipod to my itunes library.
    Please help!!
    Thank you so much!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.
If you didn't purchase any song or you have non-purchased songs from the iTunes Store, you have to use an application to transfer the songs to iTunes. Here is a list of applications you can use for that > https://discussions.apple.com/message/11319208#11319208

  • Playlists containing songs with titles starting with non-alphabetical characters do not get transferred at all

I was really happy about how the desktop manager lets me choose the songs from my itunes library by playlists! this is smart! I'm also happy to see the playbook render asian characters properly (unlike my experience on the bold!)
However, I have a lot of songs which have titles that begin with non-alphabetical characters, ie asian characters. For all playlists which contains such songs, those songs do not get transferred onto the playbook AT ALL. For example, I have one playlist which contains only songs with titles beginning with asian characters - this playlist was transferred but it is shown as containing zero songs! When I browse my song library by artist/album, I can find all those songs that should be in that/those playlists.
    Can this be fixed?
    thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

as it turns out, it kind of got fixed by itself. what i did (i think, since i have not definitively verified) was i went to browse "all songs" wherein i noticed all thoses songs starting with asian characters seemed to show correctly. then i went back to the playlists in question, and viola!
clearly there is a bug or two in the music player somewhere regarding these title characters. but rim has more urgent things to resolve i guess - like my auto screen lock is still not working!

Authorize the computer in iTunes -- Store>Authorizie this computer.  Transfer the purchases from the iPad into iTunes and then you can sync with iTunes. Read this for instructions on transferring purchases from the iPad into iTunes.

  • Help Needed - replacing space with non-breaking space on the fly

    Hi,
I have a text field I'm trying to fiddle the input on. Basically I want to replace all spaces (ascii code 32) with non-breaking spaces (ascii code 160) as they are typed.
It seemed as though a KeyListener was the way to go, and I've successfully detected whenever a space is sent. I can consume() that KeyEvent, or setKeyChar to change it to another key. But I cannot see how to change it to a non-keyboard character.
    Any suggestions?

Can a touch screen be replaced with a non-touch screen?  Still struggling to Find the answer.
My son has a 3 month old laptop with a touchscreen.  Unfortunately he cracked the screen.    The actual picture is fine, but the screen cover is cracked.    After much searching we found the replacement cost…..all in is some $500.  I am trying to find out if the screen can be replaced with a non touch screen.  This will save him $250.   I cannot seem to get the answer from HP, despite having been a client for many years.
He ordered the HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC. The product number is XC102AV.
It also shows a product number ww146av .  The connector is on the bottom left of the screen.
I am pretty sure that the part number, per the manual, is 631019-001
I had been getting helpful replies from “Erico”, but have not heard back on this issue.

  • Duplicate Genius Playlists

Duplicate Genius Playlists: continue to appear  in my itunes library as I delete them they eventually come back again  eg: Crystal Silence..this would contain about 25 songs that relate to that music genre and jazz tone..they do not appear as dups when I open the iphone however.they will apear as Crystal Silence 2..any ideas

Creation of a Genius playlist is available on the new iPod Nano's and iPod Touch with v2.1 installed. Previous generation of the iPod do not support this feature directly on the iPod.
You can of course create the Genius playlist in iTunes 8, and sync that list to your iPod.

But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

    Hi tchmielewski,
You should look into [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync Firefox Sync]. I think it will do everything that you are asking for. This will allow you to have all of your Firefox preferences and settings shared across multiple computers.
You could also create a backup on a USB drive in case of catastrophic failture. I would suggest that you back up your personal information and bookmarks using the article [[Backing up your information]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • [SOLVED!] On USB drives, problems with non-English chars and HAL

    Hello,
I am having a problem with non-English caracters (áãàçéẽê...) on files stored on my USB drive.
On Windows they're created with the correct name. But on Linux the files have the non-English characteres replaced by '?' and are not accessible.
If I manuallly mount the drives using 'mount -o iocharset=utf8 /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdisk' the characters are OK, so I think I just need to get HAL to pass the correct parameters to mount. However I don't know how to do that, and haven't found any good solution.
I tried to build a custom kernel setting the default charset as UTF-8 and it didn't work.
Any ideas? I'm using x86-64, HAL 0.5.13-3 and my locale is pt-BR.UTF-8.
    Thanks!
EDIT: Actually, this is not a HAL problem, but a problem with 'exo'. For the solution, I edited /etc/xdg/xfce4/mount.rc and added iocharset=utf8 to the [vfat] category.

I don't use Thunar presently, but I looked in the Thunar Volume Manager doc and I didn't find anything to change the mount options of removable drives. I am not quite sure if it's possible or not. Maybe someone using it can tell for sure.
But if it is not possible to change the mount options, a possible solution is to disable the Thunar Volume Manager plugin and to use something else more configurable to manage the automount function.
Personally I use the halevt package from AUR which uses configuration files in the xml format.
It's not so easy to use but is highly configurable.
But there exists other tools also.
I can help you with halevt if you choose that way...

  • Cannot rename file with non-ASCII characters when using the

My application moves files from one directory to another by calling File[] srcFiles = srcDir.listFiles() to get a list of files in the source directory, and then calling srcFiles.renameTo(destFile) to rename each file.
This does not work (renameTo returns false and the file is not moved) under the following circumstances:
    - the file's leaf name contains non-ASCII characters, for example ""
    - the OS is Solaris 9
    - the LANG and LC_* environment variables are unset, i.e. the C locale is being used
If I set the LANG environment variable to, for example, en_GB.UTF-8 then the rename succeeds.
I have tried calling srcFiles[index].getName().getBytes("UTF-8") and the non-ASCII characters are being replaced with ? (0x3f) characters when LANG is unset.
Is this a bug in the JRE? I would argue that since my code does not actually manipulate the filename (I just use the File object that File.listFiles() gives me) then the rename should succeed. Of course I would not expect the file name to be displayed correctly if I printed it out.
I have reproduced this behaviour with JDK 1.4.2_05 and 1.5.0_04 on Solaris 9.
    Francis

    Thanks for the info Alan.
I considered setting the locale in the environment (this sounds like the "correct" fix to me and we might implement it later), but this application shares a WebLogic server with many other applications so we would have to do a huge amount of testing to make sure that the locale change wouldn't break the other apps. In the end I worked around the problem by making the code that generates the filenames in the first place strip out any non-ASCII characters (the names of the files are not critically important).
Looking forward to JSR-203, in the meantime perhaps a note about this behaviour in the java.io.File javadoc would be useful.

  • UploadedFile and filenames with non-ascii chars

    Hi
I'm using an UploadedFile object in my web app, and all works fine. However, when I try to upload a file, with a filename containing non-ascii chars (e.g. Spanish), I see that the getBytes method returns an empty byte array, the filename is not stored correctly (the non-ascii chars are lost, replaced by another representation), and that the content-type is application/octet-stream instead of image/png as supposed to be.
If I rename that same file to have only ascii chars - everything is back to normal.
How can I upload files with non-ascii chars in their name?

Hi, back! Spent a few hours experimenting and found
that everything is working great (including the creation
of international non-ASCII foldernames) when I used
utf-8 encoding in the sieve filters rules for the
the match strings and the folder names... at least
so far so good... for your ref and sorry for bothering.
