Duplicates of all my Gmail messages?

Lately over the last day or two Mail is listing 3-4 duplicates of every Gmail message I have received in my inbox. The only thing that has changed is that I turned on Priority Inbox. Has anybody else seen any problems with Mail duplicates in their Gmail inbox?

I think this is the same issue I had, and I found a solution posted by Ernie at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12053372&#12053372. His solution worked perfectly for me--hope it helps you out also. ;-}

  • How can I download all my Gmail messages before I close the account?

    Hello all,
I want to delete my Gmail account to merge my email, contacts, etc. on iCloud. Is there a way of downloading all my messages so that I have a copy of them before I close down the account?
    Many thanks!

You can always setup your GMail account on your Mac as a POP3 account, and then flag GMail to mark all messages new.  The next mail check would cause your mail app to download all the messages on teh GMail server to your mail client.  Once they are in your mail client, you manage them locally in there, and it won't matter if the GMail host account goes away or not, because POP3 works with the local data once it is downloaded form the server.
Be advised that doing this can cause you to redownload thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of emails depending upon your email volume and how long you have been using GMail.  If I do this, my GMail wants to re-send close to 6GB of data to me again because I have been using GMail for about as long as it has existed, and I average 100-200 emails a day on that account.

  • Lost all email gmail deleted by mistake need help thank you

lost all email gmail messages deleted by mistake need help thank you.

Mail 2.x doesn’t store mail in standard mbox format. The only way you might find Mail messages in a “recovered” mbox file is if it was a Mail 1.x file that Mail 2.x left there after the conversion to the new *.emlx format when you upgraded from Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier to Mac OS X 10.4.
If you’re running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and don’t have a backup, what you should have tried to recover are as many *.emlx files as possible. Data Rescue II may be able to do that, but the documentation doesn’t say so. The only data recovery utility that I know for sure can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage.
That said, you may still try to import those mbox files as Other (not as Mail for Mac OS X), and hope that they don’t contain garbage that causes Mail to crash — you may look at their contents with a text editor first to check whether there are actually any emails there.
Beware, however, that anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted *.emlx files to be overwritten if you don’t try to recover them first.

  • I have duplicate mail accounts and deleted messages keep redownloading in gmail

I am using Mountain Lion and I have a me.com email account, gmail account, and sbcglobal.net account.  I set up my accounts in iMail and I use iCloud, but now I have duplicate mail accounts and every time I delete messages from my gmail account, the next time I go into Mail, all the deleted messages are back in my gmail account.  How do I stop this from happening and how do I make it so that I don't have duplicates of everything!

All 3 email accounts show up under Inbox, but all three also show up as iCloud, sbcglobal.net, and gmail.  The iCloud account will occasionally get duplicates, the sbcglobal.net account only gets mail that sbcglobal.net has put into a "bulk" folder and seems to be all junk mail and does not show up in the sbcglobal.net inbox account and the gmail shows up in both places, but I can delete messages in the gmail inbox account and they do not download again, but the second gmail account is the one that keeps redownloading the already deleted messages into the gmail "all mail" folder.  I have tried deleting the gmail account and have gone to gmail's help page, but they are behind with set up for Mac Mail.  The set up is for Mail 3.0 and not 6.2.  It keeps downloading over a thousand emails into this gmail "all mail" folder.  Is there any way to stop this?

Then, have them set it up using their own Apple ID, not yours.

  • Searching Gmail messages in Apple Mail 8.0 and hiding All Mail

As recommended by several tech sites, I enabled All Mail from my Gmail account to show in IMAP, and Apple Mail 8.0 created a new archive under the Trash icon named "All Mail (Google)". It took several hours to downloaded all my 63000 messages and they are now all stored there (based on the mailbox size in Library>Mail) but still show (as aliases I guess) in the respective mailboxes that I originally assigned them to.
Now, when I search for a message in Apple Mail, it finds it but shows its location as in "All Mail" instead of the mailbox (or label) that I had assigned it to. Is there a way to hide the All Mail archive so that the search function does not look there first?
I used to have All Mail disabled in IMAP, and the search worked as I wanted, but the issue was that all my 100 mailboxes had to be synchronized every time a message arrived, was deleted, or was moved from any Gmail mailbox. This means that it constantly cycled in the background through my mailboxes and new mail sound notifications were delayed until all mailboxes had been synced.
Enabling All Mail to show in IMAP has solved the issue of constant syncing to all mailboxes, but it has introduced the problem with searching my mailbox. It has also meant that every new message that arrives is displayed both in the Inbox and in the All Mail, and I don't need the latter.
I opened a ticket a year ago about the syncing issues to all mailboxes with bugreport at Apple, and nothing has been solved. Thanks for any help on how to hide the All Mail Google archive without disabling All Mail in IMAP, or any other workaround to search messages by mailbox without having syncing issues.

Still having this issue and accidentally hit solved.

  • After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all the AOL messages get dumped into the inbox along with the gmail messages. How can I get the AOL mailbox back?

After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all AOL messages have been lumped in the inbox along with my gmail messages. What do I have to do to get my AOL mailbox back?

Linking AOL and gmail?  I don't know what that means.  But if it means what I think it does - that you have the AOL and gmail servers chatting directly with each other through some configuration, I'd definitely disable that.
In general, the messages either aren't deleted, or aren't correctly deleted, or there's a protocol or network error, or some sort of a mail server error.
First diagnostic is a mailbox repair.  Mail.app > Mailbox > Rebuild
Then verify that the credentials are correct and the connection is reliable:
    Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor
And yes, if you have gmail and AOL chatting directly with each other, undo that.

  • Incomplete download of all Gmail messages

When trying to download her Gmail messages using Mail, my wife is only able to download 2-5 at a time. This hasn't previously been an issue. Any ideas?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Mail downloaded duplicates of all my messages!

Mail just downloaded duplicates of all the emails stored on the my online IMAP server. I am now showing 2,430 unread emails even though I have read all of them.
What can I do to get rid of all these duplicates?
Please help! & Thanks in advance.

    Juha,
First make sure you have not accessed this IMAP account with a setup that says POP? With IMAP, your Inbox and other mailbox folders reside on the server. They are not "downloaded" for you to view while connected to the internet, but the settings (if Account type is IMAP) in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced can be set to keep a copy of all messages and their attachments for Offline Viewing. This does not create duplicates in its operation.
With an IMAP server, and if the account is set as IMAP and not as POP, it is the server's responsibility to Mark as Read or Unread -- this info is not kept on your Mac. This is so multiple computers can access and keep track of Read and Unread.
    More info, please.

  • How to use "On My Mac" folders for gmail messages on two MacBooks

I am currently using a MacBook and a MacBook Air simultaneously and would like to shift email messages from my gmail account to "on my mac" folders on both computers because I receive message of the same topic from different email accounts. However, as soon as I move a gmail message from my IMAP account to an "on my mac" folder it will be removed from the server and it will not download on my other Mac.
The only solution I found is switching the gmail IMAP account to a POP account and tell the server to keep all messages so I can download them on both Macs and move them into an "on my mac" folder. But Mail 4.3 will not allow me to create a gmail POP account, it automatically assumes I want to create an IMAP account as I tap the "+" button in setting->accounts and enter my details.
How do I tell Mail 4.3 that I want to create a gmail POP account and not an IMAP account?
Is there maybe another solution to my problem other than changing to a POP account?
Thanks a lot for your support!

    Hello tjlj
Try just exporting out the mailboxes from the old computer, putting them on a flash drive and then importing them in using the import feature in Mail. If you are not using Lion, the steps to export are still the same.

  • Apple Mail no longer receiving Gmail messages

    Hi
When I upgraded to Mavericks over Christmas I could no longer send or receive messages via my Gmail account.  I recreated it and it worked fine until 21 January when I stopped receiving any messages.  I can send them OK, the Connection Doctor says "Connection and login to server succeeded" for the Gmail SMTP account and the same for the Google IMAP account.  I have 3 non-Gmail accounts which are using the Gmail SMTP as the outgoing server and they work fine.  I downloaded the Airmail mail app and set up my Gmail account and it's sending and receiving messages with no problems.
I read on a forum that rebuilding my inbox might help, and now I've got no Gmail messages at all!  This is driving me crazy, any help would be greatly appreciated.

In System Preferences > Notification Center, select Mail in the left hand column, and check the box, "Badge app icon" toward the bottom on the right.

  • Mail not loading new gmail message

I have Apple Mail 4.3 and since 22 November it is not loading new gmail messages. New messages are appearing in gmail and iphone, but not in Mail - any ideas why this would be

I'm facing the same problem since 27 Dec 2010, can't find and fix for this problem.
I can download other mail accounts except imap.gmail.com, it just show loading and nothing happen, and it also choke up almost all my internet bandwidth.
I gave up and switched to outlook for mac and no such problem.
Hope apple can look into this problem and I'm sure there are more out there having same issue.

  • Outbound Apple Mail Gmail Messages Trapped in Outbox

    Mavens,
On an iMac running Mavericks (OS X 10.9 (13A603)) and Apple Mail 7.0 (1822), outbound GMail messages remain trapped in the Outbox.
NOTE: This GMail account is using Google's 2-step Verification with an Application-specific Password for Apple Mail.
Apple Mail does access GMail's Inbox (it seems that all Gmail Inbox messages are reflected in Apple Mail's Inbox).
Outbound Gmail Emails remain trapped in Apple Mail's Outbox.
    ALSO—
If Apple Mail is closed, then re-opened, it (Apple Mail) asks for the GMail password...over & over & over...the only solution I've found is to create a new Google Application-specific password. Very tedious, and quite un-Apple-like ("...it just works.").
If you've encountered—and fixed—either of these problems...what do you suggest? Any ideas?
    Many, many thanks in advance.
    Best,
    Plane Wryter

    May have found a fix!
Thrashing around in Mail | Preferences | Accounts...
I painstakingly worked through all the settings for the GMail account (e.g., double-checking IMAP and SMTP parameters).
In doing so, I notices that the setting for "TLS Certificate" was "None" (as it is for my other GMail accounts).
    On a whim, I clicked the drop-down for TLS Certificate...and selected com.apple.idms.etc.etc.
    Allons-y! It worked.
A moment after selecting the TLS Certficate setting...the [formerly] trapped Outbox Emails launched on their way.
If you have the same symptoms, I hope this helps.
