Duplicates of Songs?

I know I can find and delete duplicates, but the duplicates only show on my Ipod touch. Not on itunes. In my Music Libary on ITUNES, there are NO duplicates. But when I am listening to music on my IPOD, it shows a duplicate of EVERY song. WHy is this and how can I get rid of it?

I am having the same problem, when I synced my ipod after an update it duplicated a lot of my songs on the ipod, but are no longer on itunes, How can I delete duplicate songs on my ipod, so I can download new songs?

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

IPod is showing duplicates of songs, but songs are not duplicated in iTunes.

I'm fishing slightly but you may have casing inconsistenices in artist or album names that cause the iOS firmware to see more than one instance of the album but with each getting all the tracks. Merging stuff in iTunes via sort fields may also have unintended consequenses on the device. Could you post back a screenshot or decribe the symptoms more fully, ie. exactly which menu screen you are in on the iPod, what is repeated etc. The songs menu for example can correctly list more than one copy of a song if it appears on different albums.

I cannot delete duplicates of songs off of my iPhone 4s. I deleted the songs off of my Windows 8 laptop, but when i check the songs on my device, there are tons of duplicates of some songs (picture included). Could anyone please tell me how to get rid of these duplicates?(Also, there is no "View" button on my itunes like there is for mac users, so i cant really do the automated view duplicates option.)

First of all, iTunes 11 is a piece of junk.
There, now that I've got that out of the way.
I want to duplicate a song that I purchased so that I can have a "short" version that I modify by setting the options to start the song one minute in and end it a mintue later.
I tried duplicating the song in the finder, renaming it, and then dragging the duplicate to itunes. It won't import. I've tried every import method. NO go.
I then double clicked on the renamed duplicate and the original song plays in iTuens.
It is maddening. How the heck can I simply make a copy or duplicate of a song so that I can have two versions of it in my library.

Set the start and stop times where you want them. Use the command File > Create New Version to create a new (shorter) version. Then go back into the original and unset the start and stop.
To avoid confusion, find the new (shorter) one in your iTunes library, and edit its info so that you can tell them apart. A common convention is "Title (edit)" but you can use whatever you want.
You will end up with both versions in your library.

Determining Gapless Information duplicates my songs

Hi, twice now I've had the problem where iTunes very quickly goes through the process of 'Determining Gapless Information' and duplicates the songs it goes through.
This is thoroughly annoying as an album can be doubled or at least have one song twice, not to mention the extra space it takes. The first time this happened it duplicate nearly 2000 songs and I went through the laborious process of deleting the actual files and then the same on iTunes. It has now done this again but around 500 and it seems that the original file is an MPEG-4 Audio file and the duplicate seems to be MPEG-3 Layer Audio file.
Does anyone else have this problem and if so how can it be stopped?

Every so often, for unknown reasons, my iTunes switches its preferences for where my music is located from where I specified it (on an external drive) to my home folder, which contains no music. As a result, all of the songs have an exclamation point next to them.
I usually remedy this problem by organizing my iTunes library, which takes a while, but solves the problem.
But the thousands of files I have which have duplicates in their folders, are now still coming up as missing. This wasn't a problem I had before.
Without hand matching every one of the five thousand songs that have duplicates, is there another quick way to resolve this problme?

I Want To Duplicate The Songs In a Playlist Then Edit Them (But Keep The Originals Intact)

I've done this before I can't remember how ...
I've made a special playlist. Now I want to share that and rename the album name and the artwork for this special event -- but I want to keep the originals with original infor.
I thought there might be some sort of "duplicate" command but I'm not seeing it.
Wht I figure I do is take the playlist, highlight all the songs, go to advanced, Creat AAC Version and then on the AAC copies do the command i and edit information for multiple songs. That way I keep the originals as is and have a playlist with "Happy Birthday" as the album name and a picture of a birthday cake as the album artwork.
Is there an easier way?

Now ... what am I doing wrong?
When I highlight tracks then hit Command R nothing happens. When I hit Command D I hear a faint electronic bong sound and nothing else. When I right click I get:

On My Device - Music displays duplicates and songs that are not on my iPhone

When I click on "iPhone", then On My Device -> Music, it doesn't show what's on my iPhone. It shows duplicates and some songs that aren't even on it. What gives? I clicked "Add To" because I thought I could transfer songs to my iPhone that way but I really don't understand this screen and what it does. Anyone know, and why it displays an incorrect list?

I figured it out. After I enabled "Manually manage music and videos" I could delete songs via that list. I guess I just found a bug because it was showing all wrong when I didn't have that option enabled, and I clicked "Add To...".

ITunes duplicates each song in my library

Hi, I just upgraded my iTunes and I'm not sure if that affected my library or if it was another thing. But now all the songs in my library are duplicated and I don't know if I will have to delete each one of the duplicated songs, one by one.. or if there is a way to do it easier.
Is this a bug of the new version?

In iTunes go to View~Show duplicates. The click one song, then press Ctrl A and delete from computer.

Highlight a track, then press command+R to see to which file it points. Are they all the same file?
Look at the "kind" column. Are they all the same format? If you import a CD as one format, then convert it to another it will result in two copies of the same track with each format.

ITunes duplicates random songs when importing

I recently just reorganized my music library to get rid of some of the duplicate songs, but when I deleted, then reimported my songs, itunes randomly duplicated probably about 1k songs, and I don't know why. Is there a way to prevent Itunes from doing that or do I just have to go through and manually take them out?

Incomplete playback seems to be reported several times a day here. I don't recall this happening before iTunes 10. I would suggest posting feedback to Apple so they aware of an issue.
