Duplicates when synching why?

whenever I synch iphone I get more duplicates and I dont know why?

Hi, no syncing or iPhone here, but since nobody else has shown up...
Who's the Mail provider?
Might see the last post here...
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=88279
Or see Ernie Stampers post here...
Those having this problem, please use the Finder to open Home/Library/Mail and locate the file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3. Use Get Info to see when this file was last updated -- should be after the last time new messages were downloaded?
Quitting Mail and removing this file, and then relaunching Mail will result in a freshening of the file, if it has become corrupted, but will once more download everything still on the server. But hopefully for the last time.

  • Duplicates when synching with gmail

I had been having a problem with duplications of contacts. When migrating my contacts from Address Book to GMail, the initial migration happens without error. Groups appear as they should and the entries within them are correct. When synching after the migration, though, iSync reports that there will be many duplications and quite a few deletions. The problem seems to be that the iSync is not noticing that duplicate contacts are within groups, and instead iSync wants to duplicate them yet again OUTSIDE the groups. In other words, everything gets screwed up when synching after the initial migration.
I'm synching contacts Address Book, Mobile Me, a Blackberry (via Missing Sync) and GMail.
    Thanks for any help.

Killed all the Google contacts again, uploaded the contents of my Address Book and the next sync attempted wanted to add 144 contacts and modify 352 of them. When I checked the ones the sync dialogue wanted to modify using the before/after switch, it was claiming that the Address Book entries only had one line in them, usually just the name, when I checked the actual entry it had every field filled out, name, address, telephone numbers etc. What gives?

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.

  • What should I do to refrain from receiving duplicate contacts on my IPhone when synching

What should I do to refrain from receiving duplicate contacts on my IPhone when synching?

Don't create 'sync loops'. In other words, if you are syncing your phone and your computer to iCloud, for example, do not ALSO sync the contacts on your phone with the contacts on the computer.

  • How do i avoid duplicate data when synching iphone and mac book to the cloud?

When I left my job for the last time I uploaded my Microsoft Outlook Contacts to the Cloud so that I could synch it with my Iphone (which I did).  Now I would like to also synch the Address Book on my Macbook  with the Cloud and my Iphone so I can integrated all of these contacts.  First I do not know if I can do this since my MACbook is a few years old aand I do not see the Cloud Icon anywhere on it.   Second of all I am not sure which area (Cloud, Iphone, or Macbook) take precedence when synching.   Can I lose data?  Does one systems dat over ride the other?  How can I avoid duplicate data?    I am a fairly new Mac user and  love the way things are integrated so I think I should not worry but I need help.  thanks, tdag55

Appears to have stopped altogether so I guess that's OK...? sorry for the delay in responding...been away. Les

  • Does my ipad make duplicates when i put photos in albums?!

    Hi,
Does my iPad make duplicates when i put them in albums? They apear on filmrol(photolist?) and when i try to delete it says: "delete everywhere?"
Another aspect (probably a bigger concern) of why this has my concern, is that it says i have 7.2 GB of photo's while i only have a 1000 or so photos on it! Even a digital illiterate like me knows 7.2MB per photo isnt normal. Most of them taken on a digital camera btw..
Can someone tell me whats going on and how i can solve/prevent this problem?
    Thanks in advace

    Is this information helpfull?
Yes. using the CCK, it transfers the compressed jpeg which should be about 2.5MB plus the raw file which according to your camera link is around 5MB.  So the math makes sense.
The following thread deals with the Raw portions of the images, and gives a few suggestions of how to get rid of them on the iPad.

  • Multiple users on same pc---how to differentiate when synching?

I doubt the subject line made any sense.
I bought the bride a NANO and I have an antique gen 1-
I am wondering how I can make certain that when synching her NANO, she does not get burdened with populating my playslists and vice versa...any advice is appreciated

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single Mac or Windows user account
    c) Creating multiple Mac or Windows user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
    iPod - Syncing Music
    Syncing Music to iPod shuffle
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose.
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Create and customize user accounts in Windows XP

  • IPod touch blue screen of death on vista when synching photos

    Hi forum,
I've just purchased my gorgeous iPod Touch 16Gb. However, when I try and synch it to my Windows Vista PC (32 bit enterprise edition), it blue screens, does a memory dump, then restarts every time.
This only happens when synching photos, specifically when the "optimising photos for iPod" process takes place.
I'm running the latest version of iTunes (7.4.3.1), the iPod software is current, and my computer is fully patched and up-to-date.
Is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? The photo functionality is one of the reasons I bought the iPod, and I would like to get this sorted!
    Thanks!
    Frustrated iPod user.

Restore does nothing + it's brand new - any other ideas?

  • When synching my 4th gen ipod touch I get error msg saying ipod could not be backed up because session could not be started with the ipod. It only does synch steps 2-5. Do I have to restore it?

When synching by 4th gen ipod touch it skips the first step - backup-, does steps 2 through 5, then I get a message the ipod could not be backed up because a session could not be started with the ipod. How do I fix this? Do I have to restore my ipod? Will all my apps be erased?

You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes.  When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

  • Aperture Not Recognizing Duplicates When Importing From iPhone. PhotoStream is Involved.

Apple makes great software. Aperture is not some of it.
    Here's my setup:
'11 MacBook Air OS X Lion
    Aperture 3.2.2
    iPhone 4 ios 5.0
1.5 TB External Drive. Aperture Masters and Library reside there, separate from each other.
I keep my photos in a structure such as: Aperture Masters > Year > Month > Date > original_photo_name
I'm running into trouble with Aperture not recognizing what photos are duplicates when it comes time to import photos. My workflow is that I'll import photos every so often, leaving them on the iPhone, and delete them twice a year.
    ISSUE 1 (The Annoying One):
Aperture is showing a lot of photos that have already been imported even if I select "Don't Import Duplicates". Aperture has done this for a long time. I know that when it comes time to importing them, it doesn't import the duplicates, but this is just a sign that something doesn't work very well. (Maybe it's because I switched to an iPhone 4S and then back. I synced all my photos, and then back again to my iPhone 4, so the sequential number of the photos remained intact. I don't think that's the problem though.). This is just a minor annoyance that shows that Apple can suck at software (remember MobileMe?).
    ISSUE 2 (The serious one):
short version: Some photos on my iPhone won't sync to my Aperture library because it thinks they've been synced through PhotoStream. They are not in my Aperture Library or in my Aperture Masters in the filesystem. How can I fix this. What bloody file do I have to delete for Aperture to stop being confused?
longer explanation: When iOS 5 came out, I was excited by PhotoStream. I had enabled it on my MBA, through iPhoto (I hadn't installed Aperture on it yet, as I was using an iMac to manage my Aperture Library). I believe it synced a bunch of photos from my iPhone, but then I stopped using it on my mac. Left it on on my iPhone. Installed Aperture. I initially enabled PhotoStream but swiftly disabled it once I was not sure how it would deal with photos being uploaded from my mac etc - just seemed like too much magic was going on. I then proceeded to sync my iPhone, not importing duplicates, and it synced a bunch of photos, but didn't sync some of them, displaying the following message:
Any tips on how to fix this and be able to import those images would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I thought that iPhoto might be causing the problem. I checked there and there were some images imported through PhotoStream, but not some of the ones which were not imported on Aperture. Putting that another way: the iPhoto library accounted for some of the images that were not imported, but not all of them. I deleted the iPhoto Library and tried reimporting with Aperture. Still no luck.

I have precisely the same problem. Very annoying. Worked fine with iPhoto, borked with Aperture 3.

  • Photo orientation wrong when synched back to iPhone

    Hi,
I take photos on my iPhone, then I put them into a folder and I keep that folder synched to the iPhone. That folder contains other photos from my Nikon cameras too.
Mostly all the photos I take on the iPhone are in the portrait orientation (1200x1600).
Unfortunately the portrait iPhone photos show up rotated incorrectly when synched back to the iPhone. When I turn the iPhone, it rotates the photo but it is still wrong.
I tried putting these photos into iPhoto and synching to an album...they then show up with the right orientation. But, I don't use iPhoto, I use Bridge/Photoshop, so this isn't really a good work around.
Anyone have a simple way to fix this?
    Thanks!

There is definitely something wrong (and MikeIPS' explanation that "there is no bug or flaw here" doesn't hold water, there are flags for orientation and they are being mistranslated somewhere in the process)...
    1. With iPhone in vertical position I took a picture of a vertical letter size print and it appears vertical on iPhone when viewing.
    2. Imported this picture into iPhoto, it appears vertical. Quit iPhoto and opened in Preview it appears vertical.
    3. Deleted original from iPhone, dragged imported version from iPhoto folder into my "sync pictures" folder and exported back to iPhone, now it's rotated 90 on the iPhone.
    4. Since I never edited or saved photo in either iPhoto or Preview, then it seems likely that the orientation flag is being changed during sync either upon upload or download.
    5. Next in Preview I selected image in imported version and copied and pasted into new photo in Preview, uploaded newly created file to iPhone and it is still rotated.
    6. Throughout this process, when doing a "Get Info" in Preview, the Orientation flag(s) shows 6. If you "Save As" in Preview to PNG it completely strips orientation info and PNG file uploads with correct vertical orientation. If you "Save As" TIFF it changes the orientation flag to a 1 and it uploads with correct vertical orientation. I stopped at this point because I wasn't doing an exhaustive analysis and only wanted to fix orientation on this one photo.
I should note that the weird orientation has only happened a few times, which lends further credence to the theory that it is happening during transfer. I rarely move photos back and forth, so this isn't a huge issue to me. If I did use this feature extensively, I would use the Automator and create an action that took the batch and in Preview resaved them in a file format that was as nondestructive to the image as possible. Until Apple fixes this issue, at least with the information I have provided you, you have a way to resolve the issue without resorting to having to buy any third party apps.
p.s. If this ever happens to MikeIPS I would suggest he used the Automator as well, but since Vista doesn't have one, it wouldn't do him any good.

  • When synching my ifone 4 with itunes the synch stops working.

When synching my ifone 4 with itunes the synch stops working. and an error message saying the program has stopped working correctly and windows will close the program and notify me when a solution becomes available. I've unistalled i tunes and assoctiated programs and done a re-boot and installed I-tunes again, but still got the same problem. Any suggestions?

I've unistalled and double checked the c: drive as per the Apple instructions and re-loaded itunes and still get the same error. It seems to be when its synching the phtographs when the problem occurs.

  • When and why do i have to use a Network-Path?

    Hello,
i'm wondering when i why i have to use a Network-Path in KM.
I'm able to connect to a File-System Repository, even if i have no Network-Path defined.
    - both run on W2K Server
    - EP runs on host EP (not an Domain-member)
    - Filesystem is provided by host FS (Domain-member)
    - EP is started with the default local-user SAPServiceEP6
    - on the FS host, i have defined also a local-user SAPServiceEP6 (because EP always wants to logon with these credentials, i have checked this in the windows securitylog of host FS)
    - no network-path defined
So regarding the fact, that everything is working, can anybody tell me when i have to use a Network-Path?
    Thanks in advance
    Frank

    Hi,
for example if you want to access a share that only access is granted for a given user. The idea is having a superuser with privileges on the other computer to do things like checking ACLS.
Another example, how can you access windows shares when running the portal in Unix? Using a network path.
