Duplicating a movie on another computer

Hi all,
Should I choose "Make movie self-contained" if I want to put it on a disk for my friend so that she can make copies on her Apple?
I have tried every way I know to send my burned movie to her in a way that will allow her to duplicate it. I made the movie in iDVD and have sent her the archive file, the disk image, the .dvdproj file. I've followed the steps in the Apple Help instructions on "Duplicating a DVD" (in the Disk Utility help menu). Nothing has worked – greyed out options, error messages...I dunno.
Anyway, I'm all out of ideas and just thought the 'self-contained' option might work. If that is the go, could you explain how to make a copy?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

To create a video DVD with iDVD, first, from FCE, Export/QuickTime Movie; in general whether you set Make Movie Self-Contained or not does not make a difference. Then import the resulting .mov file into iDVD and create (using iDVD) an image file (.img) instead of burning a physical DVD.
The image file may be copied for example to a pen drive, so you can transfer it to another Mac and burn it there; or you can burn it right on your Mac using Disk Utility (it's quite simple: just drag the .img to the left pane in Disk Utility, then select it and click on the burn button). This DVD can be played on any DVD player.
When exporting from FCE you should set Make Movie Self-Contained only if you want to move the .mov file itself to another Mac (or continue editing after export) before importing to iDVD: in fact Make Movie Self-Contained ensures that all media for that movie are in the .mov file; otherwise this will be a reference movie pointing to media files in the FCE scratch directories, and copying the .mov file will break these links.

This message comes up "This computer is already associated with an Apple ID" trying to down load movies of another computer of ICloud how do I get By?

Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

  • Hyperlinks stop working when moving QT movie to another computer

    Hi.
When setting objects as hyperlinks to other slides (Next, Previous, Frist slide) and copying the exported QuickTime movie to another computer, all hyperlinks stop working. Clicking a hyperlink will prompt a message on WindowsXP.
The meaning of this is that Keynote presentations with hyperlinks cannot be distributed to other computers via QuickTime. This is very severe.
Because of the special architecture of QuickTime, using the arrow keys to navigate back, forces the user to step-back build-by-build and only a hyperlink can do this in one step.
I've researched discussion groups and websites and found no viable solution. The only solution offered was not to use slide transitions, but this negates the whole advantage over Powerpoint.
can you suggest any solution? I would even consider opening the qt movie with a text editor to find and replace the hyperlinks, but to what?
    thanks
    Gaby

Make sure the windows machine has the absolutely newest version of QT on it. There were bugs in QT for Windows, but the last version corrected this issue.

In most countries with a lot of movies yes you can, just like how iCloud works with apps/music

  • TS2972 How do I use home sharing to move a movie to another computer

I am trying to move my digital copy of The hunger games to another computer through home sharing is this posssible?

The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • Copy Rented movie to another computer

I rented a movie on one computer with Itunes, but that computer was too slow. I tried copying the movie to a faster computer, but it will not let me play the movie. Is there any way to get this to work?

Sync it to an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, and then use the Transfer Purchases option in iTunes
The Sync and Transfer Purchases commands don't work with rented movies, Niel. There's a different procedure for moving rented movies between devices.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
From what I've read it won't work to move a rented movie from one computer to another. Unless things have changed recently, the movie can only be moved to one of the player devices you mentioned and then back to the computer on which the movie was originally rented.
    Regards.

  • Computer broke-want to redowload movies on another computer

My main computer quit. I have installed itunes on another computer and am able to download new shows to it--but I want to watch some of the shows that I had already downloaded to the computer that quit. Can I re-download those shows to this new computer? Do I need to do something to transfer them over? The old computer is not working at all now.
    Thanks in advance.

Apple typically says that it is your responsibility to backup your purchased music. You can try calling them an asking them to let you redownload them.
Do you know if the old hard drive still works? You can taking it out and adding it to the new computer.

  • Movies from another computer do not show up in items not in my library

From one computer to another, all items show up in Home sharing, however when I switch to items on my computer only, nothing shows up even though there are item that should.

  • Can a link be made to survive a move to another computer?

I have a folder with a few PDF document files in it. There are links in some of the files that can OPEN others of the files in the same folder. As you know, the addresses of these target files are stored in the links with their complete paths, from C:/ to the file names. I plan to put the folder on a CD for distribution as an e-book. A reader might want to store the folder on a computer. That will probably give the files entirely different paths. So the links will no longer work and will put up error messages saying that no such file can be found.
Is there a way around that problem? Is there a way to limit a link to addresses stored on the same folder without providing the entire path? (None of the links would let me edit out any part of the path.) I use a VISTA PC and Acrobat 8 Pro. Thank you for your help.
    Harold

    Gloria,
Thank you. It's encouraging to know that it's "supposed" to work. But before I posted this topic, I did try moving the entire folder from my Desktop to another location on the same computer, and the links no longer worked. So it might be another VISTA problem. But then you'd think that all of the hundreds of links on other programs and disks that we click on each day wouldn't work on VISTA either. Well, I'll keep trying.
    Geo Kaiser,
Thank you for your reply too. I should have made it clear that I'm not going on the Internet with these files. They will be distributed by CD. I think your reply is meant for Web-page links. Are there such things as "relative" and "absolute" links in ordinary computer-resident files? If so, how do you make Acrobat produce "relative" links? That's the big question. (I hope it isn't a VISTA bug that can't be fixed, as Gloria's comments imply.)

  • Transfer movies to another computer via iPad

I had a number of movies prepared for iTunes and my iPad.
Can I know transfer these movies to a different computer? Will sync do that or do I have to use something else to get the movies off the iPad?

The music/video/picture sync is one way with the exception of itunes purchases.

  • Duplicating PSE 9 on another computer

I'm looking for the best way to duplicate the PSE 9 Organizer that's on my desk top to my lap top.  I take the lap top on trips and want to transfer the photo files back and forth with the least amout of hassle.  I've got PSE 9 loaded on both computers and the go to storage folder is in the desktop computer.  I  also have two external hard drives and a back up drive.

OK.  I bought a new EHD.  Where do I find the PSE Folder Location view?  As far as using the operating system to move the folder, are you talking about the Move option under File in the Organizer?  I tried doing a back up from my desktop and a restore to the laptop to put the Organizer hierarchy and keywords into the PSE 9 I have loaded on the laptop.  I get an error message at the end of a several hour back up.  The back up files show up on the EHD, but the laptop restore function won't bring them up, nor give the option to restore.  I know it doesn't have to be to the same computer as backed up, because that's how I recovered my Organizer hierarchy to the new desk top after the laptop originally crashed...from a routine back up I'd done to an EHD

  • I installed the 30 day trial of CC and now need to move to another computer.

I installed on a computer I was going to buy. Now I've decided to return it and get a different model. I would still like to continue the 30day trial.

I will go out on a limb and say "yes"... the trial is assigned to the machine, not your account  (that's how licensed version go).  If you have a trial and do not have a subscription that you paid for then your trial is not activated as far as I know, it is just enabled for the trial.

  • How can I re-download a purchased movie on another computer of mine?

I have two computers I use. I purchased a movie on one of them and would like to have it on the other as well.  I canot seem to do it through 'Purchased' or through home sharing - both computers are authorized with my AppleID.
    Help

If you are in a country where films can be redownloaded, and if the film is still in the store (and you haven't moved countries since buying it), then it might show in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage - if it doesn't show there then check to see if it's hidden : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases  - Apple Support

  • Move to another computer?

I want to purchase the Student Edition of the Creative Suite Standard on bahalf of our children (whom we homeschool).  We are starting with an older iMac (~2008) and I need to be sure that if I purchase a newer, more powerful, Mac in the future that I can uninstall the software from the one and install it on the other.
    Is that possible?
Secondary question would be: Can we purchase it once and install it on multiple computers in our household?
    Thank you.

I need to be sure that if I purchase a newer, more powerful, Mac in the future that I can uninstall the software from the one and install it on the other.
    Is that possible?
Sure. You simply deactivate it on one machine and then install and activate it on the other. Of course nobody at this point can know about technical issues that may occur with future versions of Creative Suite vs. then current versions of OSX.
Can we purchase it once and install it on multiple computers in our household?
You can install on as many machines as you like until your ears start bleeding, but you can only activate on two at any given time. if you need more, buy more licenses. See the EULA. And due to the "oldness" of your Mac, make sure it is actually able to run CS6 by checking the tech specs.
