Duplicating a portion of Pro Res media for use in another project

I'm working on a compilation video which is drawing from many different interviews.   I need to duplicate certain sections of 1080p 29.97 Pro Res timelines and then bring them into a new FCP 7.0.3 project.
The clips will be pulled from many different external drives.  And I can't connect all these drives together at the same time.
So my question is...when I am on the FCP timeline of one of these older projects, how do I best copy a section of it while keeping it in Pro Res and hopefully not having to recompress it?   I don't want to go back to the AVCHD camera files that it was generated from.
Would I "Send to Compressor" right off the timeline and use one of the Pro Res settings?  Same as source settings, etc.
Or would I "Export as a Quicktime" movie off the timeline?  Settings info?
I am trying to preserve the image quality but at the same time this will not be for broadcast.   It's for a non-profit's website.
Any advice on this would be very much appreciated...
Thanks,
John

If you are trying to Media Manage selections from a sequence that span multiple clips, then create a new sequence and copy and paste all the selected parts into the new sequence so that it contains only the selected sections of content you want to copy and consolidate.
Then, with that new sequence selected, open the Media Manager and make sure that Include Master Clips outside selection and Include Affiliate Clips outside selection are unchecked, and the Delete Unused Media from Duplicated Items is checked.
Unless you are leaving room for handles in your selection process,  check Use Handles and dial in a duration, so that your clips have some padding.

  • Exporting the Browse Sequence XML file for Use in Another Project

When I generate a browse sequence based on the TOC using zero for the book level, instead of getting A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2, I get A, B, A1, A2, B1, B2.  The TOC runs through all 1st level items first, cycles back through all 2nd level item, then 3rd level, etc.
My workaround was to auto-create the browse sequence at a 0 level and then manually manipulate it to output according to how my readers would actually read my online book (ie A Aa A1 A1a A1b A2 A2a A2b B B1 etc etc).
Now that I have my browse sequence in the correct order for this project, I do not want to repeat these steps every time I create a new version of my OLH for the same guide after some minor updates have been made to the FM source.
There is a file named whbrs.xml inside the output folder and it contains the browse sequence order I specified during my workaround steps.
Is it possible to export this file to another location for use in another project referencing the same guide?
This methodology is much preferred as I am working at an enterprise level with multiple documents (some numbering in the hundreds of pages) and do not want to have to manually use my workaround for each project I update over the next few years.

    Hi Kristopher
You probably wouldn't want to use that particular file as it's an output file. You would likely have better luck using the ProjectName.BRS file as that one should be a source file.
However, keep in mind that whether (or how well) this will work will entirely depend on having the recipient project using the same identical structure and identical file names.
    Cheers... Rick

  • HP Application LifeCycle Management - URL for use with another Project Management Tool

I'm trying to find a way to get a ALM Requirement URL that will work with other applications.  The URL from the COPY URL option (when right-clicking on the requirement) works for e-mails but I can't seem to get it to work for another project management application (Daptiv).  We would like to insert the QC Requirement link to another application where the user can access the requirements directly when clicking on the QC hyperlink.
We have HP Application Lifecycle Management Software Version 11.00 Enterprise Edition.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

As Abhishek mentioned we dont need a calc manger or EPMA to migrate classic planning applications. You just need to log into shared services, expand file system and take a file system export, paste the export to the destination environment, now use it as a source and perform an import in the shared services of destination server. It worth having a look at:

  • If I imported proxy media to edit in fcpx, can I export a hight resolution (apple pro res 422 (hq)) version of the project ?

If I imported proxy media to edit in fcpx, can I export a hight resolution (apple pro res 422 (hq)) version of the project ?

OK, let me re-answer here.  You HAVE to have either original or optimized media, you can not have Proxy only media, when using FCPX's inport options.  You will switch between which FCPX is using; in 10.1 via the Canvas menu option called "Media", or in 10.0.9 and earily via the Preference's "Playback" settings.
When set to Proxy, FCPX only references that medai, which is 1/4 resolution, and not full quality.  When set to Original Or Optimized, you'll get full resolution output, as FCPX is not referencing those files.
The only way to have Proxy only media is to convert it in Compressor and then import that.  And that would just be a huge mistake.

  • Is my Droid Razr Maxx xt912 locked for use with another carrier's SIM - either in the U.S. or globally?

Is the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx XT912 locked to prevent using another carrier's SIM in the U.S.?  Is it blocked to prevent use of another carrier's SIM outside the U.S.?
    Thanks

Hi MattFlash, that is a great questions and I would be happy to help! The good news is that all of our 4G devices would be unlocked and ready for use with another carrier, so the Maxx is ready to go. If you would like to use another carriers service you may need their SIM card and would then need to follow their activation procedures. Hope this helps!

  • HQ vs standard pro res 422 for capture Help!

This is my last question (I think).
Would standard printed out on hdsr essentially look the same in this situation that I shouldn't bother with the HQ?
A gentleman made a comment that I don't need HQ for capture but I am reading a lot of commentary on this.
My feature film has a lot of effects, it is prepared for conversion from a 10bit digibeta sd file that was rendered out from an sd file.
My end delivery is going to be cable broadcast and hdsr master, (though I know just for hdcam standard would be ok).
I read different comments on here and on the web...and some of it comments if your end goal is broadcast you should have an HQ file if it comes from a 10-bit source and as well that more compression will happen down the road and taking that into consideration, as I'll be doing another render, I'd like this verified.
And NOWHERE does it differentiate if that source is the file it's being converted from or the original footage it came from.
And I will be effecting this last capture pro res file before another render to a final QT.
I just want verification that standard will be ok as the individual who commented that it is I hadn't stated for sure what my delivery and end use would be and may have assumed I'd only be concerned with hdcam.
    Thanks.

Nobody calls me a gentleman and gets away with it!
There are many resources to heop you decide on a ProRes codec appropriate for your task. However, youmust weigh the processing cost of inadequate hardware against the possibly indiscernible difference in the HUGE difference in file sizes and heavy lifting.
    http://16x9cinema.com/blog/2009/7/31/sorting-out-the-apple-prores-family.html
    ProRes 422 (HQ)
Visually lossless - highest-quality professional HD video that a (single-link) HD-SDI signal can carry.
Supports full-width, 4:2:2 video sources at 10-bit pixel depths, while retaining its visually lossless characteristic through many generations of decoding and re-encoding.
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) can be used both as an intermediate codec to accelerate workflows for complex, compressed video sources and as an affordable, high-performance alternative to uncompressed 4:2:2 video.
Has some subsampling of chroma, but retains very high quality.
Supports 4:2:2 sources like DCVPRO HD, AVC-Intra,/100, XDCAM HD422/50.
    Data rate about 220 Mbps.
    ProRes 422
Visually lossless, full-width 10-bit, 4:2:2 at lower data rate than ProRes (HQ)
Offers better multi-stream RT editing performance. For most video applications, 422 is "good enough."
    Data rate about 147 Mbps
The comparison in data density between HQ and vanilla 422 is 220/147.
If you have the chops to KNOW you need to maintain this kind of image integrity then you have the hardware to accommodate the chore. If you have the chops but not the rig, forget it, you can't afford the time. If you have the rig but not the knowledge, forget it, you can't realize the benefits. It's a pretty simple decision matrix and, while you will get some recommendations, you're the only one who can pull this trigger. It's going to cost you time or money or both.
    Types of Apple ProRes Codecs
The Apple ProRes format comes in five versions: Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (LT), and Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy). The following list describes the features of each version. For a complete comparison of the relative data rates of the Apple ProRes codecs, see Apple ProRes Format Specifications.
    Apple ProRes 4444
The Apple ProRes 4444 codec offers the utmost possible quality for 4:4:4 sources and for workflows involving alpha channels. It includes the following features:
Full-resolution, mastering-quality 4:4:4:4 RGBA color (an online-quality codec for editing and finishing 4:4:4 material, such as that originating from Sony HDCAM SR or digital cinema cameras such as RED ONE, Thomson Viper FilmStream, and Panavision Genesis cameras). The R, G, and B channels are lightly compressed, with an emphasis on being perceptually indistinguishable from the original material.
Lossless alpha channel with real-time playback
High-quality solution for storing and exchanging motion graphics and composites
For 4:4:4 sources, a data rate that is roughly 50 percent higher than the data rate of Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
Direct encoding of, and decoding to, RGB pixel formats
Support for any resolution, including SD, HD, 2K, 4K, and other resolutions
A Gamma Correction setting in the codec’s advanced compression settings pane, which allows you to disable the 1.8 to 2.2 gamma adjustment that can occur if RGB material at 2.2 gamma is misinterpreted as 1.8. This setting is also available with the Apple ProRes 422 codec.
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)The Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec offers the utmost possible quality for 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 sources (without an alpha channel) and provides the following:
    Target data rate of approximately 220 Mbps (1920 x 1080 at 60i)
Higher quality than Apple ProRes 422
Apple ProRes 422The Apple ProRes 422 codec provides the following:
    Target data rate of approximately 145 Mbps (1920 x 1080 at 60i)
Higher quality than Apple ProRes 422 (LT)
Apple ProRes 422 (LT)The Apple ProRes 422 (LT) codec provides the following:
Roughly 70 percent of the data rate of Apple ProRes 422 (thus, smaller file sizes than Apple ProRes 422)
Higher quality than Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)

There are no laws about importing electronics.

Yes you will need a new charger or an adapter to fit your power socket.

No. You need to show where you are studying. They are not going to accept it if it's in another country.

You don't reside in America, so no finance company is going to give you a loan from America. You will need to organise finance in India.

    Yes.

Don't forget to add sales tax to the American price. You will need to work out & decide if this is worth it or not.

  • How do I store a compound clip for later use or another project?

I created a compound clip, then lifted it from story line and disabled it, its darkened (invisible doesnt play in the viewer),
however its space runs as black empty frames when I play over it.
I want to do 2 things:
I wanted the footage proceeding it to shift in left to fill that black void and play, as the compound clip is "hidden". Is this possible?
I also wanted to save that compound clip for use later in this project and possibly in another project, can I save it out as a separate clip set?

I think I got it, lift the compound clip from storyline by right clicking and choosing "lift from storyline",
drag the compound clip left or right out of its original position, select the grey slate where it used to be in the time line,  and hit delete. the clips to the right now shift left to fill its void.
and the compound clip is automatically available in the event library folder its grouped clips originated from but now shown as a compound clip once you create that compound clip..

  • How do I export Premier Pro CS6 files for use with Final Cut Pro?

In my cloud version of CS-6, I am trying to export or convert my finished work and take to my
co-editor that uses Final Cut Pro. In "export" on my PrP file, I have the option to export as FCP "with notes."
When I do that, and look at the notes, they basically say "Clip one did not export - Clip two did not..."
I saw a tutorial on the web where they had the option to convert the file in Encoder from PrP file to FCP, but
it is not an option on my Encoder in the cloud. When I try to encode the files as .mov, they are tiny, and don't
    look good.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You can take the project file and the source files to FCP by exporting it as an FCP XML. Other than that you may have to export the whole project as a quicktime mov or any other editable your co-editors use.

  • Pros and cons for using single/multiple database

    hi
could anyone tell me in which senario we can use multiple databases and advantages and disadvantages using multiple databases over single database (with different tablespace)
    thaks in advance
    hari

depending on your situation you can probably think of different answers. You ask for a 'general' rule of thumb... well, some things that pop into my mind:
    - different usage by applications. e.g. you have a transactional application storing and modifying data and you also want to do analytics. You might want to build a seperate database/datawarehouse that you can use for analytics. by splitting it up you can tune both databases to work best with the application using it.
    - sensitive data and many different users. e.g. the marketing department does not need to have access to the finance department's data (salaries, etc). give each department a separate database and only load the data needed/give access to the data needed.
Just some thoughts, you can think of more when confronted with a certain situation.

  • Exporting Clips for use in another application

I want to export clips from Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.1 retain the clips in Final Cut and be able to use the clips in premiere.  Any ideas.

I copied the entire Final Cut library from one hard drive to another before trying the consolidate function.  I used the consolidate function and ingested the media copies into Adobe Prelude and backed that up to another hard drive.  I am at the beginning of making a documentary which has turned into a huge project.  I am working across platforms but have decided the end product will be in Adobe Premiere.  I have decided this because many of the people I am working with being editors and graphic designers work with Adobe products.  I like Final Cut Pro X but people in the industry have reacted against it thus forcing these decisions.

  • How do I copy my contacts to the SIM Card for use in another handset (not iPhone) please?

I have an iPhone 5 to replace my iPhone 3GS but I wish to get all of my phone numbers/contacts onto a spare handset which will stay in my rucksack for  emergencies.  I've read all the manuals but the only info I can find relates to backing up through iCloud which can only be used with Apple systems.  Any assistance appreciated, thank you.

You don't. iPhone stores no data on a sim card.
See if your carrier can do this for you. Some have machines, in store, that can do this.

  • How can I make a migration copy of my email addresses for use in another program.

It is necessary to make a migration copy of all our email addresses for transfer to windows express.
Our office overseas can not use Thunderbird & needs all our email addresses stored in Thunderbird copied for migration into their windows express program. How can this be achieved.?
I think we may also need to transfer email copies too, can this be done.?
    If so, how.?
    Regards Kym

Ok I have googled, I have found a windows cleaning company in Switzerland http://www.windowsexpress.org/About-Us.htmland something called Parallels Desktop for Mac with instructions for installing windows on a mac.
So I think we need to go back to the beginning with "What is Windows express?"
Email programs as a general rule do not "export" their contents into another mail clients formats. The normal procedure is to "import" the foreign format so there are some obvious questions
What formats can this mail software import?
Are your existing mail accounts IMAP or pop?
you can export email addresses from Thunderbird as CSV which almost all programs can read (including spreadsheets) From the address book select the Tools menu (Alt+ T) and select the export option
