Duplicating an audio tract?

I recently used a wireless Sony microphone with my Panasonic PVGS-150 camcorder. Unfortunately, it just records mono, so when I played that clip on iMovie, there was only audio from one speaker. Is there any way to duplicate that audio to the second audio tract so it will play out of BOTH speakers?
Thanks!

Hi Ed
Not in iMovie 5 but may be in iMovie 6 (more sound editing tools)
I would export the movie as .aiff sound file and open it in a sound
editing program. Copy left to right then save and re-import to iMovie.
There are free sound editing programs as:Audacity

  • Changing Audio Tracts

I import a video and drug it to the timeline. I now have the video on a tract and the audio on a tract. I want to move the audio to another tract so I can dissolve it over another audio tract from an existing video. I can't seem to drag the audio tract to another tract even in I unlink it or copy it. What am I doing wrong and how do get it onto another tract?
    Thanks,
    RR

    aresquare1,
As Jeff points out in post #1, the Audio "type" must match that of the Track, that you are attempting to place it on. Look at the Track "header" to the left of the Timeline and note the icons - 1 "speaker" for mono, 2 "speakers" for stereo, and "5.1" for 5.1 Audio.
Now, if you do not have the appropriate Track available, either drag your Audio below the Master, and the appropriate one will be made for you, or go to Sequence and choose Create Tracks. Alter the default dialog to create 1 Audio Track of the appropriate type, where ever you want it. Make sure to type in a 0 for Video Tracks. You can create your new Track someplace besides the "After Last Track," by targeting another Track and choosing "Before," or "After."
    Good luck,
    Gunt

  • ITunes took Utube-type movie files and duplicated the audio only and added it to Music in iTunes

I have about 8,000 short video clips in my iTunes library and about 9,000 songs.  When setting up iTunes Match, i noticed some ineligible files were titled as if they were video clips (ie 'Drunk guy slaps wife at church').  I checked for that same file name under Movies in iTunes, and there it was--in MPEG4 format...it played normally, video and sound.
I went back to the audio only file in Music of iTunes to find that it was an ACC audio file with an 'm4a' format.  The video fiile is 13MB, the audio only 3MB.
I've found about 20 files that have been duplicated this way.
QUESTION:  I have never extracted the audio only portion of these video files, and I don't go around encoding or changing formats of my videos.  How in the world did the audio of a video file show up in the Music section of my iTunes as a duplicate to an original file found in my Movies section of iTunes?!
If you have any ideas, I'd apprecate an explanation to this mystery...I'm starting to believe in supernatural powers.
    Thanks!

  • Duplicating an audio segmant

Is there a way to duplicate and audio segment- copy and paste does not do it.

    Hello Mel:
Unless I am missing something in your question-
If you import the audio into the timeline and then go to edit>copy>paste it should work. If it is audio that is already on the video you will need to extract it first then copy>paste.
If it is from music in your audio files, them just import it at the playhead.

  • Standard Sound Levels for Multiple Songs in Audio Tract

I have a video with numerous songs from iTunes in the audio track of the video.
The songs have a wide variety of playback level in the video's audio track.
I know that I can adjust each one manually so that they sound to my ear (and to the audio meter) to be playing at about the same level.
However, is there a simple way to select one of the songs and have automatically have the remaining songs readjust to the selected standard song?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Just closing the loop here ...
I ended up doing the separate track and audio mixer volume adjustment with some individual clip gain tweaks.   Turns out one of my cameras was quiet and another loud, so I used three audio tracks in my movie, one for footage from each camera (luckily the two offenders were more limited).   The nice thing about this approach is that adjustments are easy to make across the board.
On the 6db volume gain, turns out that was enough.  Maybe someone has some input here, but I find that watching video on my TV with my surround sound system the volume levels are way more sensitive than my PC.   Ok, not 100% - there were a couple of clips where I upped the gain as well.
The gain adjustment and looking at the waveform diagram is very useful for getting an idea of what level of adjustment is required.   So I did make use of this feature to get feedback on how to adjust the volume level noted above.
If I was really serious, I would have done a bunch of marking key frames and adjusting the volume within the clips.   One of my cameras is really loud when the person filming speaks but the other subjects are much softer.  But I took an 80/20 approach and the movie is a little loud in some spots and a little soft in others, but not so much that I have to adjust the volume button.  It would be tedious to edit all the footage in this way.   Although I did make use of the key frames for some background music.
Needles: I was looking for a consumer level solution, although admittedly didn't investigate what you suggested.

  • Duplicating an audio signal.

I was using and external mic to record some live music with a canon vixia HF 200. The cable of the mic broke and half of the recording has only sound through the left channel. How can I copy this signal so I can reproduce it on the right channel? In which other ways can I solve this problem?
Thank yo very much for your help.

Pan the clip to center; it will output on both channels equally.

  • Recording audio from external keyboard

    Hello
I have a keyboard hooked up to my computer via USB connection.
I can record the keyboard to 'software instrument' track but can't to 'audio' track.
I have a microphone also USB connection, I can record to 'audio' track, no problem, so Im not sure what's missing
    Logic Pro 9
    Thanks in advance everyone
    TT

I finally understand what you are saying now...so I have to get the audio cable and not suing the current USB that I have...my thinking was if I can do with microphone via USB port, then the USB cord from the keyboard should act the same way, and as you said, by using that I can only get MIDI...OK bottom line I will have to get different cable, get one with line out from keyboard and into the Mac's buil-in audio input.
I'm reading the manual the 'Exploring Logic Pro' chapter 4 about Recording and Comping Audio, this will only work if it's an audio tract and not software instrument track...so that's why I want to be able to record as audio track, so I can have 'audio takes' and 'Take Folders'
    My keyboard is Korg SP-280
    thanks

  • Unwanted audio in burned final idvd

Have you ever encountered this problem in iMovie/iDVD? I recently finished editing together a wedding for friends. The timeline is a simple sequence of clips with transitions and background music that I easily imported directly from itunes. When editing, THE FIRST THING I DID was to DETACH AUDIO from my clips and delete it because I don't want background noise in the project. I also MUTED ALL AUDIO in the clips. When I play my timeline project in iMovie...it is exactly as I want it. I go to Share it through iDVD and I set up my menu and burn as usual. HOWEVER, when I play back the new DVD, unwanted audio (pulled from the original background sound of the video clip) creeps in AT RANDOM! Some clips are still muted, others are playing the background audio. What the heck? The first thing I did in iMovie was to detach audio and mute all audio from my video clips. The project is perfect in iMovie, why isn't it burning correctly? Any help would be appreciated :-) THANKS

    -Old Toad,
Thank you so much for your reply. I am trying to figure out if I can also do this in Quicktime version 10 because I have a new computer, but I haven't found a property option in this version. When I go to "Show View Options," I can see that there are, indeed, TWO audio tracts present. I need to delete ONE of them. Any suggestions?
Also, since I last posted, I edited/burned a smaller project and I didn't have the same problem "unwanted audio" dvd problem. Therefore, I think that this is a SOFTWARE problem, in which case, I'm just outta luck? Like I said originally, I ALWAYS detach all audio and delete it. The video plays perfectly in iMovie, but burns incorrectly, with the unwanted audio popping in and out, at random.

  • Audio clips vanishing

I have duplicated some audio files from a clip (room tone) not being used in the timeline and I have inserted them in one or two video clips that need that ambient sound. I've noticed as I work on other areas of my timeling that those sound clips either shrink or vanish altogether.
    What am I missing?

sorry if I came off snarky. What can I say, it happens. Are you capturing as ProRes? If so, you should make your sequence settings match those settings. If you edit a clip into a new sequence, does it ask you to match the sequence settings to the clip settings? If you say OK, do these settings match those of the sequence you've been working in?

  • Need help creating movies in Snapz Pro and then editing them in FCE

I'm in the process of creating a series of training videos on a software application that will ultimatley be on a DVD accompanying a book. I'm trying to use SnapZ Pro to capture the video (with audio) and then edit the sound in FCE. I have no clue what settings to use in Snap Z Pro for the best quality and that will be compatible with FCE. I tried a few samples and used the Animation codec (and various audio compressions). The audio tract was fine in FCE when I listened to it alone, but jumpy with lost segments when combined with the video. I'd appreciate some ideas of what settings to use at every step of the process for best results.
When I tried saving a segment using the Apple Intermediate codec in Snapz Pro, FCE repeatedly crashed when importing the file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

FCE is a fixed resolution video editing application. It will only work in DV or HDV. 10fps is not a frame rate used by either of those. The material needs to be in a standard frame resolution and frame rate. The standard for DV is 720x480 at 29.97fps. If you capture at 10fps you're going to have to save the material using the DV NSTC codec, set the frame size to 720x480 and the frame rate to 29.97. You may have pixel aspect ratio issues requiring capture at 720x540, but I don't know enough about SnapzPro to know how that product handles frame resolution and frame rate conversion.

  • DVD fluttering

Created a movie of slides, using iMovie HD 6.0.3 with 2 audio tracts, moved to iDVD 08, incorporated opening and closing theme clips, then saved as a disc image. Burned at 1x onto a Verbatim DVD-R disc, encoded "professional quality". The product plays with good audio, no skipping or hesitation, but there is intermittent fluttering of the video which sometimes "seems" to be in rhythm with the music. It can occur at any time, and comes and goes on the same music tract, but occurs on other tracts as well. Thanks for your help.

    Two Things.
How long is your movie? If it is under 60 min you don't need to use Professional Quality and that could actually be messing it up. If nothing else works, try using a different brand of DVD.

  • Cannot burn disk of slideshow

I have made slideshows with audio tract successfully in Aperture, exported to iTunes, MobileMe Gallery and to desktop.
Toast has been unable to burn the slideshow to disk.
I noted now that the exported file to desktop is a "protected MPEG-4 movie".  Does that mean this is a file which can only be burned and used in Apple proprietary products?  I have made disks before but they may have been Quicktime files.
I'm lost, confused about that "protected" statement in Info.

Great idea but I had already done that and the "protected" was still there.
So I exported the file again from Aperture as "Custom" to the desktop and I got a QuickTime movie (no mention of "protected"!
Previously, I had exported as AppleTV, iPad (720p) (plus iTunes) and that gets me the "protected" file!
(so I got to go back and export a lot of slideshows as Custom <sigh>)
    Thank you for help!

  • A nice reverb plugin for final cut ?

    Hi,
I'm looking for an audio reverb plugin to works with FCP. I know I can use Soundtrack, but I only need a nice reverb from time to time.
    Any suggestion ?
    Thanks

Have you tried to duplicated the audio track and applied the filter to one and then mixed it to the other? Works better than just flat sticking it on one audio clip.

  • Can I make a slides show with imovie(8,0,6)

Can I make a slides show with imovie (8,0,6). If so, how?

    Hi
    Yes and No
No - if Quality is important AND You want a DVD as result - no iMovie'08 to 11 can handle or export - Interlaced SD-Video to any DVD authoring program - When going from Event's to Project every second line in the Picture is lost and this will be a noticeable quality loss in the final DVD
    YES - If You don't want a DVD -
    • Just start a new Project
    • Import Photos from Media button / Photos
    • Insert transition of choice
    • Insert Audio at Your liking - I convert all to .aiff and not use any .mp3 or from iTunes directly (converted they work OK)
    If DVD - Then use
    • iMovie HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
    • FotoMagico™
    • iDVD - BUT this is limited in several ways
    - max 99 photos per show
    - one transition possibly
    - audio - one audio tract (but this can be created outside iDVD to contain more than one tune
    Good Luck

  • Problems with export of AVCHD

    Hi everybody,
Just finished editing my movie, and now we want to move into sound editing. In order to give the sound designer something to work with, I wanted to export a "poorer quality" of the complete film, since he doesn't need the picture to be in top quality. However, now I tried a couple of different settings, mostly MPEG2, but I'm occuring quite a strange error. Occasionally the movie will flickr and loop a couple of frames of the film. There's nothing wrong with the source file, so I'm pretty sure this is happening in the export. My source material is 1080i, but I'm quite confused as to what is causing this.
Looking forward to any help you might be able to offer,
    Best Regards
    Jeppe

Tried essentially everything and is still not close to solving this. In the beginning I thought it was specific spots in the movie that caused this, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when these loops will happen:
I noticed this info in a youtube video, seems like someone has had the exact same problem.
"Just something someone else has a problem with. CS4, Panasonic  AVCHD, after exporting the footage, it seems to have duplicated frames,  audio is off sync, etc. So what could have caused this? And re-starting  the software, cleaning the media cache doesn´t fix it"
    Somebody answered with this:
"Sounds like a bad rendered frames. Try deleting rendered frames (under  one of menues)"
However, I tried this and it didn't help.
Once again, I will really appreciate any input you might be able to offer.
    Cheers,
    Jeppe
