Duplicating certain contacts when syncing w/ gmail

I sync'ed my contacts via iTunes through cable to my Exchange account until a week ago. Then I changed to sync to "Google contacts". This to get my contacts to gmail. Everything OK. I unmarked (in iTunes) that it should not sync through cable any more, setup an Exchange account in settings on my iPhone and wanted to sync by push. Almost everything is OK. BUT some (approx. 25 out of 150 contacts) now duplicates every time I sync through cable. (The only thing i now sync through cable is my exchange-calendar and NOT my contacts). So every time I plug my iPhone in it creates yet another duplicate of those 25 contacts. (Almost everyone is a company not private persons). Any idea of what is not correctly setup?

  • Overwrote (full) iPod contacts with Laptop Contacts when syncing in iTunes

Overwrote (full) iPod contacts with Laptop Contacts when syncing in iTunes. Can I get old (full) contacts back?
Bakstory: Laptop crashed, got restored, but without contacts. Mistakenly thought I could upload them from my iPod. I hit sync. Big mistake. When I disconnected, I saw my iPod has the measley 4 contacts I DID have on my laptop after the crash, instead of the hundreds I had on the iPod just minutes before.
Note: There is nothing in the desktop Trashcan that says "contacts."
I also tried to post this question in the iTunes section, but for some reason I can't seem to post there.
    Thanks for any help!
(Man, everyone agrees this is a design flaw--in how you share info from iPod to CPU and can easily overwrite things you don't want to. They should fix that.)

    Yes, you can do that.
On the computer that you only want to sync contacts & calendars to just unselect content like music, photos, apps, etc.
You can only sync content like music with one computer at a time, content like contacts with as many as you like.
Before you sync your contacts & calendar with the laptop, make sure you have one entry in address book & ical, select merge at the prompt, do not select replace.
Make sure you disable auto sync when a ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes.

  • How to prevent duplicate contacts when syncing iPhone 4S with PC

Having problems with duplicate contacts when syncing iPhone and iPad with PC - suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Are you also using iCloud?

  • Contacts duplicated numerous times when syncing iPhone 4

Since updating to iOS5, when syncing my wife's iPhone 4, many of her contacts are duplicated numerous times.  She has Windows 7 and uses MS Outlook for contacts and calendar.  Contacts in her Outlook file are not duplicated.  I can manually delete the duplications, but the next sync repeats the duplications.  How do I stop this madness?

I have the same problem. Using an iPhone 3G.
Events made on the iPhone multiply every time the iPhone is synced with the Macbook. Events made in iCal on the Macbook pro do not seem to double up when synced with the iPhone.
When creating events on the iPhone I usually set the events to repeat every day (until i complete the event and then I delete it)
Hope some one can offer some insight.

  • How can I get rid of and prevent further duplicate contacts when syncing?

I have checked preventing automatic syncing and any other places that seemed to give me some limiting conrol. But I noted the tiny print today that says when syncing by connection with Itunes, mobile me is also in contact wirelessly. I can't see any place mobile me gives me a choice to prevent syncing contacts. I have already spent hours cleaning up the contacts of my iphone 4 and will now have to do it again. Is the only way not to connect to I tunes? How then can you ever get music and other info into this smart phone?

  • Contacts force sync with GMail? ...Please?

Is there any way to do this? I have Google syncing on Push for all services. It syncs... eventually! But it can be over a week. It is a problem to have to wait so long for contacts to sync but I won't go into it now. If not, what can I do to get it to sync more frequently?

Shouldn't have that issue. If I change on iPhone I see on the web right away, if I change on web, I see it sync (progress indicator when opening contacts) and is there right away.

  • Does the iPhone contact list update your online contacts when syncing?

I know that you can update your iPhone contacts thru your Yahoo contact list, but does this occur vice-versa when new contacts have been added to your iPhone and you sync with Yahoo?

    In an indirect way, yes.
It syncs with Address Book and updates the contacts
    there.
Your computer will then sync with .Mac and update
    contacts online.
Hopefully Apple will implement direct .Mac sync'ing
in future versions, but who knows if they will.
obviously syncing your iPhone to your mac, will update address book, which in turn will update your online contact list on .mac
this was not the question, the question was, will changing the contacts from a yahoo contact list update your online contact list through yahoo when sync'd.
best way to find out, try it, see if it does.

  • Is there any way to stop certain 'contact groups' syncing on to my iPhone from Mac?

    Hi All,
I use my Mac for business purposes and on it I want to use the conact groups feature to create a load of contacts, with email addresses, which i will regularly send emails to. However, i noticed whenever i add or change any contacts on my mac, it updates them wirelessly on my iPhone..
Is there any way I can stop certain groups from syncing on to my iPhone??

    never mind worked it out

  • How do I keep from losing some of my contacts when syncing?

How do I prevent lose of some of my phone numbers when syncing my phone?

I think the matching has been extended beyond the beginnings of names, as it used to be. It now looks for the string appearing anywhere in the contacts' names or addresses. Type a few more letters to see if it becomes more precise.
e.g. 'and' will fire on 'handyman', 'wallander' etc and not necessarily just on 'andrew' as you might expect. But if you type in 'andr' that should eliminate handyman and wallander. ;-)
I think you will find it is also searching nicknames too, something which had been broken for some time. Distinctive nicknames for your contacts can speed up auto-completion quite noticeably.

  • Somehow, I erased all my contacts when syncing music. Any idea how I go about locating and redownloading them

Somehow, I erased all of my contacts while syncing music. Any clue on  how I go about locating and redownloading them? Thanks

Hopefully you have those contacts on your computer from a previous sync.  If you do, connect your iphone, click on your iphone, and then go to "info" and make sure "sync all contacts" is checked.  Then sync and you should be good to go.

  • Contacts..sync with gmail..

I can not synchronize my contacts with gmail on my MacBook ... I followed all the steps but when I type the "sync now" nothing happens .... do not matter ..
    What can it be?
    I've got osx 10.6.3

Thanks. I have some personal info in my iPhone which I don't want it to go to web (via gmail sync). But I also don't want to put a PIN on my phone as each use I have to unlock it. Is there a way to do it?

  • Backup contacts when synced to exchange server

my wife has 30 days left at her job, and her iphone is connected to the exchange server at work. All her contact information is on there, and after reading through some posts I am confident she will lose her contacts (and calendar entries) once she is dismissed.
I have tried to save the contacts to windows address book utilizing itunes and the instructions, but when I did this nothing was saved to windows address book. I also tried to save to google contacts and nothing was transferred/synced there either.
I have since tried idrive lite as a backup, only to find some entries mysteriously not backed up.
I am trying to back up the data prior to her final day, do you have any suggestions?
I realize that she could save her address book as a .csv file, but she may not have an opportunity to log in directly to the exchange server before her finaly day(she works remotely and it is likely she will just mail her equipment minus the iphone back to her offfice).
thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Thanks for looking into this. I agree it seems to be an issue with the EWS access.
I believe it is Exchange 2010.
I have taken the following actions
    - The IT department reset my email account but no improvement.
    - I have reinstalled the OS on my MacBookAir (shut down computer, restart, press key "R", select reinstall OS). This took quite a while. Mail still crashes.
IT department recommends to install e.g. Gmail or yahoo on Mail and check whether problem persists
Last resort solution, Exchange could be deleted and then reinstalled again.
However, I want to keep this option to the very last.
What else could I try to do?
    Thanks again.

  • Lost phone numbers from Contacts when syncing icloud ipad iphone outlook

I seem to have lost some contact numbers from icloud, ipad and iphone contacts and wonder if this was a syncing error with outlook to icloud.. can anyone help as these are business contacts. I also use Groups and CJournal on ipad too.

Contacts are not completely backed up as part of the iPhone backup.  Only contacts necessary to back up your recent call and favorites lists are backed up, which often won't include all your contacts.  (In fact, if the IT person backed up and then restored your phone from backup that may be how he lost many of your contacts.)  Also, restoring from backup will revert all settings and data on your phone to those contained in the backup.  If you want to try to restore from your backup anyway follow this procedure:
Before connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent…from syncing automatically"
Now connect your phone to your computer and import your photos to avoid losing any recent photos (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083)
Open iTunes and when your phone appears on the left sidebar, right-click on its name and choose Transfer Purchases (to transfer any recent purchased into your iTunes library)
Right-click on the name of her phone again and choose Restore from Backup, choosing the backup you wish to restore from
When this completes you can go back and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefers this

  • Lost some contacts when syncing

    Hi
I just got an iPhone 4 and i sync everything from my iPhone 3. The problem is that I had 70 contacts on my last iPhone and just 59 was syncing to the new iPhone. When I noticed that, I conected iPhone 3 again to transfer the other contacts to the computer, but it removed some contacts and now I have 59 on Both. Das anyone knows how to recover those contacts that I lost?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the discussions,
if you have a backup of you 3G before you lost the contacts, you could restore from that one. But as every backup replaces the old one, it has to be an iphone backup included in your computer backup routine.
You iphone backup folder is located here:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
