Duplicating files on Top "Level" of HD in Yosemite stuck with PENDING and "X"-- which is incredible as it is happening on both my 2010 MBP-13" and my daughter's brand new MacBook Space gray:
Go to the highest level on your hard drive --- where the SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS and USERS folders are located. Now take any file or folder that is there (small or big) and click on it, the either choose "duplicate" or do cmd-d to make a duplicate of that file. WHAT HAPPENS?

I HOPE THIS HELPS people to see what I'm getting on the top level only: Here are 2 images -- a before and after: I have a very plain empty folder called "Test Folder 1 May 2015" in the first one (along with some other folders) and then in the second one you can see I duplicated that folder -- but it now has a progress bar and and "x" showing! (Just the "duplicated" file - the one with copy in the name). This is a screen shot (using "Totalfinder" if anyone is wondering). Same with my daughter's new MacBook (and she has essentially nothing on it, is not using TotalFinder - but the same problem. Hey, maybe it's not a problem, maybe it's a "feature" of Yosemite or just the way it treats root level folders now--- but I sure would like to get rid of this weirdness if possible without breaking the system!

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway. Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File. If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published. -
Storing files on top level a bad idea?

I was wondering if there is any problem with storing files on the top level of my Mac, the level that has the Applications, System, Library and Users folders. I know some apps will have issues if they or their components are installed here, but is this generally a bad idea?

No, but some backup software programs may not see them if they're put there. If you have more than one user account on the computer, the other accounts may not be able to save changes to them.

Hi - for any photo, info in mountain lion shows a different file size than Photoshop does. I've tested with both CS3 and CS6 on 10.8.2 and get the same problem. This doesn't happen with CS3 and OSX10.4 or any previous versions of Photoshop and OSX. Anyone know why?
this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem? -
Can't delete hidden file from top level
Screen grab of what's happening:
I used to have it as a startup item until it wouldn't login correctly after a reboot (no login, guest login)
I then deleted it from my startup items but it still shows up every reboot. I can't delete it, I can't eject it (but I can connect to the real drive from the connect to server option)
It's an annoyance, I can't seem to get it out of my system unless I make a new account and I don't want to do that.
Does anyone know how to remove it?Run all of the free OnyX cleaning and maintenance aspects and reboot

Next use the Verify > Preferences and mark down all the corrupted plist files, find them and move them to your desktop and reboot, they will rebuild automatically and you'll have to set the preferences for those programs again. (trash the desktop versions if there are no further complications)
That hopefully should do the trick, I think it's just a glitch and once OnyX cleans out the caches, ds store files etc., that file should disappear as everything is rebuilt.
Also it appears your having some other issues, look at those question marks.
Backup your files to a external drive via manual drag and drop methods, hold c and boot off the installer disk that comes with the comptuer and reinstall OS X on top of the installed one and reboot, hopefully that will clear things up.
Turn off Root user, it's dangerous to be running that all the time. -
If i try d utility the areas i need like verify or repair etc are dimmed out. If i tryand reinstall it asks me which startup disk i,d like to boot from and there are no disks to choose from. Please help. P.s. im not fussed about wiping the existing m lion os and programs and starting from scratch if that what it takes.

You can see what you have by pasting this line in Terminal

Since the folder holding these is ~/System/Library/Extensions, when OS X is reinstalled those third party kext files are obviously not included, requiring those softwares to be reinstalled from original sources to put theirs back in there.
The #8 Reinstall OS X has the benefit of fixing OS X if it's the issue, removing all third party kext files, including outdated and no longer used ones, as well as replacing all bundled Apple software that comes with OS X (not including iLife).
When this is done with 10.6, the old version of 10.6 is installed, why it's important to Software Update right away for security and bug fixes.
On 10.7-10.8 now I assume the download is the most recent version of OS X as that would make sense. -
How do I find out the exact path of each and every file that LabVIEW finds and loads into memory for a given top level vi? There is probably a trivial, easy way to get this info, but I have not yet found it! Thanks..
Or if you want to grab all the paths programatically, try the attached VI.
Open the top level that you want all the paths from and close all others, then open the
attached and run it. It will return an array of all the VIs that the VI
in question uses, including vi.lib VIs. You can filter these as well if
you like.

Numbered folders appearing on top level of HD
Past few days these folders keep reappearing. They are completely empty, I dump them, and then they show up again. I've been looking through the forums and haven't found any reference. Did the basic troubleshooting/permissions routines and ran Onyx. No dice they keep coming back. Any ideas on what they are or if they are signs of a problem?

Top Level Navigation - Design bar borders

We're using the top level navigation iview (TLN) out-of-the box and have configured the look and feel of TLN using the Theme Editor so that it follows the customer's corporate identity.
However, we cannot remove the two white vertical borders around the design bar in top level navigation or change the color to the same color as the top level navigation. It is only possible for us to change the background color of the design bar but not the color of the design bar border. The marketing department thinks this is a huge issue, which must be fixed.
We're almost certain that the problem cannot be solved by configuring the Theme Editor.
Does anybody know whether it is easy to modify the code or css files to change the white borders of the design bar? Any idea of what is the best approach?

I have similar problem but there is no "Display of Design Bar Container" option in the Top Level Navigation section of the Theme editor.

Nonsensical top level PDF bookmark in Crystal report exported from InfoView

I am using Crystal Reports 2008, the CMC repository, and InfoView. I am producing PDF reports, many with bookmarks based on the group tree.
I have found that when I run my report off my workstation, all is fine, but when I run the same report out of InfoView, the top level bookmark is a string of nonsensical numbers and characters.
Is there a way for me to ensure that this top level bookmark is something readable, perhaps the name of the report?

I ran into this problem just recently myself. The report would export just fine out of the designer but when I would try to export it from CMC it would give me a root bookmark named along the lines of "~crw{33FB2DCD-838A-(more gibberish)....}.rpt"
I eventually figured out how to solve it. I am using Crystal XI R2, not 2008, but I suspect you may be able to resolve the issue using the same steps. I believe that the gibberish name that you are seeing is the actual technical name of the report as it is stored on the Enterprise server. In order to get it to display a nice formatted name of your choosing, open up your report in the report designer. Now go to the File menu and select Summary Info. In the Title section, provide the name of the report that you would like to see at the root of the bookmark. You are esentially setting up an alias for it. Now when you export, you should see the new name that you typed in as the main part of the bookmark.

Marking VI as top-level during build
While building an LLB, is it possible to specify VIs as top-level. I was not able to see any option for this in build specifications. I am using LabVIEW 8.6.

Top-level Keyword dilemma- can someone explain "include"?
Aloha fellow LR users! I use LR 1.4.1 and LR2beta on windows Vista 32 PC. My problem is with top-level keywords. I have read many blogs and other keyword procedure specific tutorials on the web. Most all of them are extremely useful and enlightening, but none of them seem to explain the option definitions for keywords in terms that I understand.
If I right-click and choose edit keyword a dialogue box presents several options, some of which depend on whether an image is selected or not. Ill proceed as if no image is selected.
Three basic options (numbered here for reference only) are checked by default:
1-Include on Export
2-Export containing keywords
3-Export synonyms
Option 3, I pretty much understand and I get that synonyms are NOT included on Export when the option to maintain LR hierarchy is UNCHECKED in the Export dialogue box.
My real question boils down to; do these options only refer to actual exports or do they affect the keywords applied to an image?

There are times when I would prefer the top-level keyword NOT be included in the metadata. Is that even possible using LR? Yes they do refer to export. Lightroom will apply the keywords to your image regardless of these export settings.

When on will export Parent,Child
When off will export Child only.
The option on the export page "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy" uses the | (vertical bar or pipe) as keyword hierarchy separator and will write keywords as
Parent|Child when checked
Parent.....Child when not checked (..... represents tab character)

When you add a keyword to an image the Parent is also added. There is no option to turn this off. Neither can you create a Top Level keyword tag using the same name as an existing Child keyword. But you can choose to export only Child keywords using option 2 in your list. -

I have just bougth Nano 4 gig!
I dragged a folder of songs over to it . I thought How cool is this! But it said that is was not room for all of the songs. Hmmm I thought: How strange. When it was done adding all the songs I notised that most of the songs where duplicated.
Is there a function on Itunes that you can say: Delet all duplicated files???you can go under the Edit menu and say show duplicate songs, then delete all the copies of a song there except 1. So if there are 3 of the same song delete 2 of them, hope this helps

Top level clock timing error 0.00 ns
I am working with Ni 9146 chassis in FPGA. When the top-level clock was set to default (40 MHz) and the VI was compiled with Xilinx a timing error comes back which states the the time that the code took would be ~0.05 ns, but the expected time was 0.00ns. Since it was 40 MHz the time required should have been 25ns. I had the work around that I created a derived clock of 40 MHz, and this makes the compiler think the code needs to run in less than 25ns.
I do need to know why the default clock does not work though.

MitchellI have received similar errors in a few of my projects, typically in the past I have simply changed the "Implementation Strategy" from "default" to "reduced compile time". Although I just received the same error 3 times consecutively now and I'm not sure why. I have the exact same VI implemented on another FPGA of the same type which compiles without problem.
I have received two 50pS timing violations and one 980pS timing violation.
Attached are the screen shots of the two most recent errors. Any insight as to the cause?
I just changed the "Implementation Strategy" to "optimize performance" hopefully this rectifies the issue.

Bill - he still sees that "connection" although it isn't mapped it is attached temporarily.
P - Log off and log back on and the attached connection will be gone. It is temporary. Again - knowing the basics of WIndows would let you know this.
We have given you all of the answers that are possible. There is no other way unless you have installed things like PowerShell and PowerShell remoting or an FTP server.
If you do use a drive it can be just as easily deleted after you have finished the copy.
Again: "NET USE /?" will tell you all of the options.
Saying you know nothing is not an excuse for not thinking or looking more deeply into the suggestions made by those trying to help you. This is not a MIcrosoft support forum or help desk. It is a forum for admiinistrative scripting and assumes
