Duplicating flagged photos

I have flagged photos but now I want to duplicate them and save the duplicates in another folder, so I don't change the originals.  Do I have to do that one by one or is there a batch method?

Thank you very much.  It's my first time using iphotos and am still learning.  I used to use Microsoft Digital Suite on a PC and am now seeing how this compares in ease of use.

  • Can I moved flagged photos into an album on the iPad?

    Hi there,
While on holiday I used my iPad to backup photos from my camera and I used the flag system in iPhoto for iPad to mark which ones I wanted to share. The problem is I can't see a way of moving the flagged photos into an album so I wanted to find out if it is actually possible to do this on the iPad.
    Additional info:
The photos were uploaded onto the iPad using the native Photos app and have been flagged in iPhoto
The photos are also on my iCloud account
Neither the flags nor editing applied to the photos have synced after iCloud has been updated on my Macbook
Due to the above I am unable to create a Smart Album based on flagged photos on my Macbook
In iPhoto for iPad I cannot see the filename so I am unable to discern which images to flag on my Macbook to utilise Smart Albums (I have a lot of very similar photos)
Any help would be much appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating.

There is not yet a simple solution to do what you want.  The new Photos.app in iOS 8 will bring a much better integration between iPad and Mac.
I just don't understand the point of being able to flag, favourite or tag item on the iPad  if you can't organise them into folders or easily share them between Apple's own apps.
iPhoto on the iPad is simply not yet as flexible as iPhoto on a Mac.    It is not meant for syncing libraries between Mac and iPad. You can share photos, but not albums. And the central sharing place with other apps on the iPad is the Camera Roll. To make photos valuable in other apps, share them to the Camera Roll.
In iPhoto you cannot create albums like in the Photos.app. Only smart albums based on tags. If you add a tag "Flower" to some photos, you will automatically create an album "Flower". But again, these tags will not be transferred to your Mac by the Photo Stream, you will not see them in iPhoto on your mac.
If you want to transfer the edited photos using the Photo Stream you have to add them to the Photo Stream after editing, and that requires to save them to the Camera Roll.
You could use a shared Photo Stream, but that will reduce the size of the photos.  Or select the flag photos and sync them to your Mac using iTunes Photo Sharing.  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/#blnkee26bc1f
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap > iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.
I am using the iPad mainly to browse and show photos in slideshows, but not, to organise and tag them. That I will do on my Mac.

  • How do I move Flagged Photos Event back to original event?

I made the mistake of thinking that I was making an event from flagged photos within an event.  Instead, it created a Flagged Photos event of photos from ALL my events.  I've read the instructions on how to put them back, but I can't get the events close to each other to drag from one to the other.  Is there another way?  Or can someone explain how to move the Flagged Photos close to the original Event?  I have over 400 that I want back in their original places.
    Thanks!

If you didn't make a back up then you don't have one. And you should. Immeadiately.
If you want move photos to a specific Event, flag them, select the target Event and go EVents menu -> Add Flagged Photos to Selected Events

  • How do I restore all my flagged photos to their original events?

Not sure how this could have happened, but a month or two ago, I went to view 'All Events' and there appeared one huge mega-event which contained all my flagged photos from all events from Feb 2010 (my initial use of iPhoto) until October 2011, containing over 900 photos.
How could I have inadvertently done this?  But more importantly,
How do I redistribute them to their original events?
I'm considering splitting the mega-event into events with the same dates as the originals then merging those flagged photos with the unflagged photos into the original event.  However, trying to do a single split for the first 20 photos from the original event took over an hour.
Also considering going back to a backup prior to this happening and restoring only the affected Events, if this is possible.  To accomplish this, hopefully all flagged photos would then reappear in their original Events and the mega-Event would go away.  But I havent seen how restore operates and I'm concerned for deleting those pix and Events done since October 2011.
Anyone have any experience with this one???
    Thanks!

Evidently you accidentally selected this menu option under the Events menu:
I don't know of any way to undo that.
Also considering going back to a backup prior to this happening and restoring only the affected Events, if this is possible.
No you'll have to restore the entire library from Time Machine.  But here's something you might want to try:
1 - restore the library(B) from just before this happened.
2 - use the  paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to import your current library (A)  into your restored library (B) with the option to not import duplicates.  That should get you pretty close back to where you want to be.  Of course be sure there's a current backup of your current library (A) before starting the merge.

  • -7 Flagged Photos

From the Flagged Photos under RECENTS I cleared the flagged photos. Now it tells me that I have -7 flagged photos (7 hidden photos) which don't display when I choose VIEW -> HIDDEN PHOTOS. Further clearing of flagged photos produces the same results.  Anybody have any idea what's going on? How can I find these hidden photos so I can unflag them? Wouldn't it be nice to have a category under either RECENTS or LIBRARY named "Hidden" so you can see all hidden photos?
    TC

You can make a smart album in a couple of seconds:
File -> New -> Smart Album
    Photo -> Is -> Hidden

  • Flagged photos in iPhoto not showing up in iMovie

I recently updated both imovie and iphoto.  I have several flagged photos in iphoto.  I am working in imovie to create a movie.  When I cleck the camera on the lower right to import photos into imovie, I see all my photos.  However, I don't see an option to choose the flagged photos.  This has always been there.  Incredibly annoying.  I usually flag the pics I want to use in a movie.
I have tried closing and restarting both programs.  Restarting computer.  Removing all flags and reflagging some.
Still, I don't see that option to chose the flagged photos in imovie.  I see all others like Events, Faces, Places, etc.
    Thanks for any help.

    Anyone have any ideas????
Again... I don't see the flagged photo smart album in imovie.... see screen shot below.
Where the flagged photo album should be (after Last Import)... it is not there!!
Very frustrating.  Spent about 5 hours on and off with Apple support and they can't figure it out either.

  • Add Flagged Photos To Selected Event / Select By Date

So I am having to bite the bullet and re-import all of my referenced pics to try and consolidate them eventually into my managed library. I start with my first folder, import it, select the 103 photos in the Event with a view of then going to the existing Event, Adding Flagged Photos to it and then deleting out the older non-linked ones. Except I cannot seem to get the Add Flagged Photos function to activate in any circumstances, it is simply greyed out and nothing I do seems to want to activate it.
Is this a bug or an odd change in functionality from 09?
While we are at it, another function I used a lot in 09 was searching a photo by date from the search box in the bottom bar. I would select date, hold down the Alt button to select all pics on that day i.e. 13/12 and iPhoto would display them. It doesn't now, I follow this exact same flow and it will display all pictures that are December pics instead of the single day specific ones.

When I search by date it shows the day specific day clicked - if I "alt" click it deletes the year and shows all photo on the date in any year
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • I'm trying to merge (unify) my Aperture library with my iphoto library and have doen the merge and consolidate functions in Aperture.  I have found that this process increased my Aperture library form 30 to 39 gigs and duplicated many photos in the proces

I've just merged my Aperture and iphoto libraries and have found that my combined new Aperture library has grown from about 30 gigs (the total size of the Aperture and iphoto libbraries prior to merging) to 40 gigs.  Also, in reviewing photos in the Aperture browser I find that photos appaer as duplicated, one photo with no tag (the original) followed by the same photo with a small tag (suggesting edits).  HAs the merge process caused an unintended increase in library size? My initial reason do consolidate the libraries was to eliminate the "referenced" portion fo the Aperture library that refernced the iphoto originals. Any thoughts as to how I can get one consolidated non-referenced combined libray inside Aperture with no duplicates.  I run a Time Capsule and can access backups of the original Aperture and Iphoto libraries if I need to repeat the process. Thanks for any help.  Jim.

My initial reason do consolidate the libraries was to eliminate the "referenced" portion fo the Aperture library that refernced the iphoto originals
One for the Consolidate Masters command.
By importing the Library you brought over everything, lock stock and barrell, and your Aperture library still points to those referenced masters in the iPhoto Library.

  • Simple question - moving flagged photos to the trash

    Hello all,
I can't seem to figure out what should be a simple problem. When looking through my pictures, and flagging those I want to move to the trash, I can't. I go to flagged photo's, and the delete key just unflags them. I can't drag them to the trash folder, nor can I do a menu choice for the trash.
Whats the best way to handle this? (iphoto 09, by the way)

    Hello.
Here is a step by step to produce what I'm seeing
    1) Under last import, flag a badly blurred photo, or whatever.
    2) Go to the flagged folder. Select the flagged photo, and drag it to the iphoto trash icon. Photo vanishes from flagged folder.
    3) go back to last import, or the event where the photo lives. And photo is still there - dragging to the iphoto trash icon merely clears the flag.
    What does work
    1) Go through photo's, flagging some for deletion, editing others, etc. Finish up.
    2) go to flagged photo's folder. Highlight all.
    3) Go back to photos stream.
    4) find one of the photos. Hold down the shift key, click on photo, drag it to the iphoto trash icon. Notice that iphoto is telling you it grabbed more than one photo (it grabbed all photos that were selected in the flagged photo - which is what we want). It deletes all the photos.
Thats a bit of a pain.
    What I want to happen
Flag a bunch of photos in my library.
    Go the flagged folder.
Select all the photos in the flagged folder.
Move said photo's to the iphoto trash icon, getting rid of them.
    Any way to do this?
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Lost my flagged photos.  How can I retrieve them?

I have lost my flagged photos.  How can I retrieve them?

Restore the library to a backup copy from just before the problem occurred. Otherwise you'll have to reflag them.

  • Is iphoto duplicating my photos in ios7

I can see every photo on my camera roll in the iphoto app, & when I delete the photo in iphoto it is still on my camera roll. Does this mean that iphoto is duplicating my photos and thereby using up space on my iphone?

    Hello Zed,
Thank you for the question.  The iPhoto app references the photos in the Photos app.  Deleting a photo from the iPhoto app should delete it from the Photos app as well.  Use the steps below to delete photos:
    Delete photos from iPhoto
iPhoto uses the photos and video clips that are stored in the Photos app on your device. If you delete a photo from the Photos app on your device, the photo is deleted in iPhoto (unless the photo has been edited, captioned, tagged as a favorite, or used in a web journal, slideshow, or photo book).
You can also delete any photos you took with your device, and any photos you imported using the iPad Camera Connection Kit, directly from the Camera Roll album in iPhoto. You can't delete photos from iPhoto or the Photos app if you synced them to your device using iTunes.
You can also hide a photo, so it remains in the Photos app, but doesn’t appear in iPhoto.
    Delete photos
Depending on how your photos and video clips were added to iPhoto, do one of the following:
Photos and video clips taken with your device: In iPhoto, tap Albums, tap Camera Roll, tap to select the photos, tap , tap Delete Photo, and tap Delete. The photos are deleted from both iPhoto and your device.
Photos and video clips you synced to your computer using iTunes: Connect your device to your computer and, in iTunes, deselect the photos and video clips you want to remove from your device. Click Apply.
Photos in the Beamed, Photo Box, iTunes, or [App] album: Tap a photo, tap (tap Edit if you don’t see the tool), tap Delete Photo, and tap Delete.
    Delete photos from iPhoto

If you are not seeing the changes in the Photos app after deleting a photo from iPhoto, you may need to quit and relaunch the application.  Use these steps to quit the application:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app's preview up to close it.
iOS: Force an app to close

  • Sync just flagged photos to iphone?

When I click on the photo tabs in itunes to sync photos to my phone I see events, places, people, etc, but how I can just sync photos I flagged to my phone?
I don't understand why they don't just have a box there you can check. It has boxes for almost every other group of photos, expect flagged photos.
    Am I missing something?

Just create an album called iphone and put whatever you like in it. Select that album to sync with iphone.
Anything you add or delete from that album will be added or deleted from iphone when you sync.

  • Reversing "Add Flagged Photos to Selected Event" Command

Apparently, we inadvertently moved all of our flagged photos to one event using the "Add Flagged Photos to Selected Event" Command. The problem is, I want all of these flagged photos back in their original events.
Is there a way to do this without manually re-sorting the photos? I currently have ca. 10,000 photos in 270 events, and I am not looking forward to a manual re-sort.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The easiest way ti to use your backup of the iPhoto library - that is why you make them - in case of software, hardware or human error
If that will not do it, I can not test this but it should get you started - assuming that your events are in the default time/date based set up - and assuming that the photos are still flagged create a new event form the flagged photos and select that event - under the event menu ==> autosplit selected event - this will create new events that will be next to the event the photos came from - then go through and merge the newly created events with the event the photos came from
Other that your backup I can not think of any other way to get there except to move each photo manually

  • Why my Flagged photos vanished from photo library after I clicked to number next to it??

Why my Flagged photos vanished from photo library?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • "Add flagged photos" only works sometimes.  Is there a fix?

After I flag photos in one event, then select another event, and choose "Add flagged photos...", the flagged photos are sometimes moved and sometimes not.  After opening the target event and clicking on a few photos, then selecting the target event again, the "Add flagged photos.." may work.  I seems to work about 10% of the time on the first try.  Is there something I could do to fix this?

I thought it might be an photo ownership issue since my wife and I share the iPhoto library (it is in the Shared User folder) so I set the security on the photos to "Read and Write" from both my account and her account.
That's not how to set permissions on an iPhoto Library.  Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. You'll see the option to check and repair Library permissions.
I thought about rebuilding the library, but am a little nervous about that since there are numerous warnings about backing up before doing that.
What? You mean you don't back up?
Sounds as though it might be dangerous
Not dangerous at all... if you have a back up.
