Duplicating Folders in Stacks Grid

I've got a problem with Stacks that is driving me crazy. Every now and then, the contents inside the stacks that contain my home folder and my applications folder, are duplicated. But NOT inside of other containers that I have dragged to the Dock. If I reboot, it fixes itself. I did several searches here but did not find an answer.
Here is are screen shots that show what I'm talking about:
Home Folder:
Application Folder:
Recently Used Items (This one is fine!)
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Jason

Well yeah I agree with a few exceptions. the 10.5.2 update basically did away with Quay. But there is still no way to choose a fixed icon for a Stack folder you display on the Dock... so you have to do a mod or "work around".
The update also did nothing to allow you to have illuminated selections when in grid mode, which really should be standard. And the hacks I've employed are terminal hacks, not 3rd party programs. So I really don't think that the hacks are causing my problem.
I think the problem for me was that prior to the 10.5.2 update, I had to use Quay to get what I wanted out of stacks, but the update fixed that issue, and I forgot to uninstall it. And even still, I can't say for sure that Quay was the problem. Could be something else. And if all else fails, I'll just undo the two terminal hacks I've done and see what happens.
And honestly, I'd probably much rather go back to the way Tiger handled user folders on the Dock. That was just fine for me.

  • Duplicated folders in Mail from iCloud account

Hi, I have a little problem with Mail in Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud. I use the last release, with all upgrades done.
When I use Mail, sometimes (and always when I use the Sync function in Mail) I get duplicated folders from iCloud.
A little pic to show what I mean:
The "other" folders in iCloud are active: I find often some messages in the Junk folder, but I can't turn off this function in iCloud...
What can I do not to have these iCloud folders in Mail? And how can I turn off the junk function in iCloud (not in Mail)?
    Thank you,
    Andrea

And when a message goes into the "Junk" folder in iCloud, not in "Indesiderata" (Junk) in Mail?
    I wouldn't see it...
What can I do to disable the Junk function in iCloud, and use only the same function in Mail?

When synchronizing my iPhone 4G with Outlook 2007 in my Windows 7 PC I get duplicated folders of Contacts and Calendars in both. How can I solve it?

Well, you can go into setting>mail, contacts, calendars>add new account or through iTunes you can plug your phone into your computer, open iTunes, select your device, then select info. I hope this helps. Au revoir!

answered - not enough files within the stack grid view to make the scroll bar appear.

  • How to disable folders snapping to grid on desktop

I want to disable snap to grid of all folders, icons, jpegs, etc. on desktop. What I want is ability to move stuff around randomly.

Right click on the desktop and click on Show view options and deselect snap to a grid.

  • ICloud drive duplicated folders

I have a few folders with personal files and research data in iCloud Drive, a total of ~7GB.
Sometimes in the morning, as I connect to internet, a few moments later I see a bunch of subfolders duplicated as 'Name' to 'Name 2'. Furthermore, all the subfolders inside 'Name' are also present in 'Name 2', then the actual files are all moved to 'Name 2' and disappeared from 'Name'.
I do daily backups with time machine, but this make it impossible to work as everyday I need to re-map folders locations with a bunch of software and virtual machines.
    I am gonna loose data?
Is there a solution for this problem

Sorry I can't help but I have the exact same thing and it's so frustrating! I would like to add more iCloud storage and start moving more files to the cloud but with iCloud how it is at the moment this would be a very bad idea!
Sometimes you change files, only to find them in different folders with the same name but numbered sequentially. I have had three folders before! Name 1, name 2 and name 3. And then its very unsettling as you don't know which folder has your correct or updated files in and you spend time having to check them all. Its ridiculous!

  • Show Custom Icon in a Dock Stack, Grid View?

Hi, I have a folder with lots of pdfs placed in my dock as a stack. Is there any way to tell the Dock to show my custom icons, when present, or the default preview snapshot as it does now?
When I click on my folder in the dock, I have it set to show as a grid. When the contents are shown, the finder generated document preview icons are shown. For some documents, I have created custom icons for quick visual identification. When I view the document in a finder folder window, the custom icon shows, as expected, but not when I view the folder contents in a dock stack.
    Thanks

I have placed a network drive in the dock to act as a stack so that I quick click of that icon will mount the drive, and then the icon acts as a stack. This network drive has a custom icon. When I have the stack set to "display as stack", I get the stack icon in the dock. When I then change to "Display as folder", the custom icon appears in the dock in place of the stack icon UNTIL I click on the icon to display its contents. When I click again, the icon reverts to the generic network drive icon. I'd like the custom icon to remain in the dock. Any thoughts?

  • Alias folders in stacks on dock

I have a folder in my dock as a stack, and it has alias folders inside it.
When I click on one of the alias folders to view the contents, nothing happens and it doesn't open in finder.

    Hi tsofio,
I saw this posted by macwiz1220 but it was never confirmed that it actually worked.
    This is a variation on it. Locate the file;
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
and drag it to the desktop, and immediately log out and then log back in again.
If that does not work you might have to use Terminal. Here is the original post:

  • Why can't we have folders AND stacks in the dock?

If I drag a single item into the dock, I want it to remain a single item.
If I drag multiple items into the dock, I want them to become a stack.
If I drag one folder filled with multiple items, it should only turn into a stack on my say-so, like if I Option-Drag it onto the dock or something. Stacks shouldn't be forced onto the user.
Please make Stacks an ADDED FEATURE and not an ABSOLUTE CHANGE in everyone's daily workflow.

I might actually buy a windows laptop.  So sad.
No need, as long as Apple continues to offer a notebook line-up that includes built-in optical drives, to buy a Windows machine... yet.
As I said, the only thing that I use my SuperDrive for now is backups of all those digital software deliveries, documents, etc. If I finally break down and buy an external Blu-ray drive, I won't use the SuperDrive at all. But right now I have almost 12 years of back-ups on DVD, both single and dual layer - so, for now, I need my optical drive.
I'm hoping that - one day - Apple will sell MacBook Pros with Blu-ray drives. Hey, I can wish, right?

  • Duplicating folders in column view

When I duplicate a folder in column view, Finder selects the duplicate folder but don't show its contents or it simply shows the folder icon. I need to click on any other folder and then come back to the duplicate folder to see what's inside.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem, if not, how to solve this.

J, I have a few ideas, but I think you should first get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, boot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.

  • Can't delete duplicated desktop folders

I somehow duplicated the few folders I have on my desktop, including the Macintosh HD and TimeMachine backup. The duplicated folders are empty but I cannot drag them and drop them into the trash. When I right click on those folders, they show much fewer options than the originals.
    The options are:
    New Folder
    Get Info
    Change Desktop Background
    Clean Up
    Clean Up By
    Sort By, and
    Show View Options
The Clean Up By and Sort By options are:
    Name
    Kind
    Date Modified
    Date Created
    Size, and
    Tags
I can only draw a box around the duplicated items with the cursor but the box disappears once I release the mouse. I am mystified how these folders and icons got duplicated and more mystified as to why I can't move them. I appreciate any help in advance.

Open the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences and change the desktop picture.

  • How to make a structured set of folders in Automator

    HI guys,
    Hope you can help.
I'm after quite a unique folder structure - I want to be able to build automatically from scratch every week (to save me doing it by hand.
The structure should look like this (but probably a lot more):
    computer.CFB.001.Dave/Originals/
    computer.CFB.002.Chris/Originals/
    computer.CFB.003.Ann/Originals/
    computer.CFB.004.Paul/Originals/
So the main folder has two changeable things, the 001 and the name afterwards, the rest of the structure is constant.
At the moment, this is what I have (based on only 2 names):
    new folder
    new folder
Ask for Finder items (allow multiple entries, and directory chosen)
Rename Finder items (making sequential, using the numbers starting 001 etc)
Ask for Finder items (allow multiple entries, and directory chosen)
Rename Finder items (add text 'computer.CFB.' to beginning)
So if I run that, I can get all the folders to show up and it works BUT I get extra duplicated folders inside those folders - I'm not sure why this is happening?
Next step is that I need to individually add the names (chris, ann etc), so I want it add this to the end of the filename (but I would like a prompt so that I can write in each one - I don't see any other way around this apart from typing them in a prompt). If this can't be done, I'll just have to rename the folders by hand (but with over 100 people that could be hard work).
Then lastly, how can I add an 'Originals' folder into each of those folders?
Sorry for all the questions, this is all new for me. Any help would be great!

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run:
    tell application "Finder"
set the_path to folder "test" of desktop
    set A to ""
    repeat with B from 1 to 1
    if B < 100 then set A to "0" & B
    if B < 10 then set A to "00" & B
set the_name to text returned of (display dialog "What name do you want for folder " & B & "?" default answer "")
    set the_string to (((quoted form of POSIX path of (the_path as alias)) as string) & "computer.CFB." & A & "." & the_name & "/Originals/") as string
    do shell script "mkdir -p " & the_string
    end repeat
    end tell
The path in the second line can be changed as needed. Use colons to specify different path elements.

  • Why can't I drag files out of folder stacks in Yosemite

After upgrade to Yosemite, I can't drag files or folders from stacks in the dock to anywhere, I need to open the folder in the finder to do this. anybody havin

For me, it kind of fixed itself. Unfortunately I cannot say for sure what I did that triggered the fix, because I just noticed the other day that I was able to drag and drop again (what a relief). I can't say for sure that this is related, but the one thing that I did immediately before noticing that it was no longer broken that seemed like it could have had some effect was installing a new, Yosemite compatible version of Asepsis (http://asepsis.binaryage.com). Maybe the problem was the old version of Asepsis hanging around from Mavericks, or maybe doing the Aspesis install somehow fixed it indirectly, or maybe it was just a coincidence and that had nothing to do with it. But that's all I could think of that I did that might have had an effect on the Finder.

  • I want stacks back!

I'm sure this has already bee covered, but I can't find anything about it online.
I deleted Stacks when I first converted from a PC because I thought it was nonesense. Now I want it back! I don't have any folders named "stacks" on this account (Stacks still works on an account I made for my parents on this same computer).
How do I create a Stacks folder and put it in the Dock?

    Thank you!
Right now I have a stack of photos-thats good I want that. But I also have that same folder in my Pictures folder-I'd rather not have the photos there...can I delete the folder of photos in the Pictures folder and be assured it will remain in the Stack?

  • Some websites duplicate their URLs in history stack; cannot return to their parent with a single keystroke or mouse click.

On some websites, when I click on the left arrow or use the backspace key, the browser doesn't return to the parent URL. Looking at the list of currently-accessed URLs, the current URL is duplicated in the stack, so hitting back or left arrow just brings me back to the same (duplicated) URL. For instance:
    site x <= current page
    site x
    parent
This just started happening recently (within the last two or three updates). It happens on several, but not all sites.
    Thanks!

This can happen if there were redirects or otherwise forms submitted.
In such a case you can hold down the mouse button on the Back button to open the tab history and select the entry that you need.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Also make sure that you aren't blocking the redirect/reload.
