Duplicating layers to new larger image

Hi-
Cutting my teeth using Photoshop CW4 on my first project using a professional printer and I made an image size mistake because I didn't read the printer's requirements (won't do that again).  I made my image size without the bleed factored in.  So I needed to enlarge the orginal 350 dpi image from 1400 x 3150 to 1435 x 3185 to compensate for bleed.  I'm so new at this... and not wanting to compromise the image quality, the only safe thing I could think of was to create a new image with the proper dimensions and dpi, and then duplicate the original layers into the new image.  But, I'm not sure if that really was the safe way to preserve the image quality.  I've got two questions:
1.  Will there be any loss in the way that I did it?
2.  How would you have remedied the problem?
Thanks from a newb!

Hi, Up North.
Long time, no reply. But this might help.
I don't think you need to do the image over. You are increasing the size by less than 3%. You want to enlarge with your preferences set to Bicubic Smoother. New pixels will be created, but the effect on the image should be minimal. Only you can decide if the result is acceptable.
One problem. You are increasing the dimension size by 50 pixels on each axis. The short side of the image will be stretched a little more than the long side, percentage wise. So the enlarged image will have a slightly different aspect ratio than the original.
FWIW.
Peace,
Lee

  • Large image in lightbox opens in new window

    I added a lightbox gallery to my site and it was working fine.  Then, I tried to add more thumbnails and that's when problems started.  Some of the larger images wouldnt load at all so I then started over with a new page/gallery, deleted files off the server and tried uploading again.  The quirky thing is that the gallery works fine on my computer but when I upload it onto the server and view it from the web it doesn't work correctly.  The larger images open up in a new window  Im guessing that I'm missing something on the server but I don't know what.  I reuploaded everything on the local server and still nothing.  Can anyone help?

    I finally got it to work by deleting files off the remote and uploading again.  Thought I did that last night but I guess this morning I did something right that I had missed.

  • Spry Gallery - how to get large image to open in a new window?

    Hey guys,
    I'm building a new website and decided to use Spry for the Gallery section. It works like a charm but I want to get the larger version of the image to open in a new window when someone clicks on the normal image? It shouldn't be that difficult but I'm lost. Can anyone help?
    I believe I have to put a <a href> infront of the image something like this:
    <div id="picture">
            <div id="mainImageOutline" style="width: 0px; height: 0px;"><a href="?????" target="_blank" id="??????"><img id="mainImage" alt="main image" src=""/></a></div>
      </div>
    and something to the XML file...
    <photo
    path = "1.jpg"
    width = "300"
    height = "400"
    thumbpath = "1.jpg"
    thumbwidth = "56"
    thumbheight = "75"
    large = "galleries/xyz/large/1.jpg"   <------- this is the large image I want to open in a new windows

    thanks!!

    Actually, the site is for my friend and she really likes this Gallery: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/gallery/index-air.html
    I just want to keep this one and just edit it, so when I click on the image it opens the large image...

  • Viewing Larger Image Version / in New Window/Tab

    I have added in the links to larger image files to my lower res images. When I click those images in Preview it takes me out of the page and to a new window to view the larger image. Will this larger image be viewed in antoher tab/window? I see the option to click "Open in new Window/Tab" in the hyperlinks menu. I have not activated that for each image link. Should I?
    I want to make sure I don't leave the site and don't maintain a tab to get bak to the page I was on after I view a larger image.

    Yes you will need to do it for each link. Wether it opens in a new tab or a new window really depends on what browser the user is using and how they have it set up.

    When dragging an image onto a fresh canvas, the resizing feature presnaps the image into the canvas size. I can confirm that this has not happened to me in previous projects. I've also tested this problem by making a new larger document size and dragging in the same render. It snaps again. I don't want to re-size from the canvas dimensions, I want to resize from the render's original dimensions.

  • So frustrated!!!! mouseover to display larger image

    I've searched all day for the answer, been sent 400 lines of
    code that I couldnt understand, read the tutorials... got nowhere.
    so, here we go...
    I have 3 images. 'Front.gif' 'back.gif' and 'detail.gif. I
    sell dresses. I want the user to be able to click on the small gif
    'front' and for the large image of the front of the dress to appear
    (on the same page but different location to front.gif). Then the
    user clicks on 'back.gif' and the front picture of the dress is
    replaced with the back view. then repeat for the 'detailed' view of
    the dress.
    all pictures/photos the the dress (front, back and detail)
    are the same size.
    I've tried layers, rollovers, swaps, crazy code that got me
    half way. I feel like dreamweaver is laughing at me saying "just
    click on that blue button and thats it"!!!!!
    thanks, kitty

  • Larger image on mouse over

    Hi,
    I've got a map of the US divided into 5 territories. On mouse
    over each territory, I want to display a larger picture of that
    territory in a new window over that spot on the map. (I've got the
    map and the five larger graphics as separate files.)
    I thought I could draw the hot spots on the base map and
    assign them behaviors -- I see Open New Window in Behaviors. The
    only option it gives me is to open the new pic as a URL, replacing
    the main window.
    Is the answer the show/hide command? I see my list of
    available graphics -- can I get the larger pics in there somehow?
    Or give up in Dreamweaver and figure it out in Flash? Help
    appreciated beyond words. ttt

    > Is the answer the show/hide command?
    Yes.
    You would have to put the larger images into hidden layers
    and toggle their
    visibility.

  • Crash when duplicating layers?

    I've only had InDesign installed and been learning it for the last 2-3 weeks, on a new Mac Mini (so I'm not pumped with processing power) but I don't think I'm asking the software & hardware to do too much...
    I do repetative tasks as a designer, one of them is duplicating layers prior to sending a file to press (to outline fonts, flatten images, etc.)  Seems like 1 out of 10 times I have duplicated a layer in the InDesign Layer Window - by drag and dropping the layer onto the New Layer icon, to duplicate - it causes InDesign to stop responding and ultimately forces an unsaved quit.
    Has any one else had this happen or can duplicate the error?

    There is unfortunately quite a few reports of crashing in CS5, a lot seem to be when manipulating pages, see these posts here, here and here.  Have a read of those and see if anything applies, there are a few fixes for certain circumstances.

    I have allocated as much memory as I have (about 14GB) exclusively to Photoshop using the performance preferences panel.  Does anyone have a trick for speeding up the processing of these files--or is my only solution to buy a faster Mac--like the new Mac Pro?

    I am new to site and first question. So hope not too silly.    I wish to have lots of small thumbnails on page and when mouse hovers over each individual thumbnail it will enlarge into a larger image - on top of the thumbnail mouse is over.   Thanks to Nancy O answering Bravats question on this, I found the following HTML from Nancy,  however..... am darned if I am able to have the image hover exactly over the thumbnail.    Not to left, not to right, etc etc,   but over top of thumbnail.    Can someone please tell me what to put in where to make this happen?  Thank you.

  • Illustrator Image Trace doesn't work with large images

    Illustrator's Image Trace doesn't seem to work at all with large images.  The attached image shows the following:
    A) The original raster cropped tightly.
    B) Converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings.  Results in 242 paths and 4792 anchors.
    C) Adding a massive amount of white space and then converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings.  Results in 407 paths and 1620 anchors.
    For whatever reason Illustrator can't seem to handle large images.  This test shows it's not an issue with the image being too complex since all I've done is add white space and the file was saved without compression so there should be no noise.
    This type of glitch started with CS6 with the new Image Trace tool.  Is there a fix for this?  Maybe setting Image Trace into legacy mode?

  • Trying to link a thumbnail in one frame to a larger image in another frame GOLIVE 9...

    Hi.
    I am using Adobe Golive 9.
    I found a tutorial on the internet that allows you to create an image gallery with clickable thumbnails
    http://www.tutorialhero.com/click-48179-create_an_image_gallery_with_clickable_thumbnails. php
    However, the tutorial is designed for a page without frames.
    I want to be able to do this using frames.
    I want to link a thumbnail on a page in one frame to a larger image on another page, so that when your mouse is over the thumbnail,
    the larger version appears in the other frame.
    This is what my frames look like so you get an idea of what I'm trying to do
    And here is a picture of the thumbnail in the lower frame and the larger image in the frame above it.
    Could someone please give me STEP BY STEP instructions on how to do this?  I'm new to Golive, using version GOLIVE 9, and I know this can be accomplished using "Set Image URL"  but have no idea how to do it.
    Thank you for your help all.
    Chris.

    A link in one frame is designed to call another page into some other frame, not an image. You can't use SetImageUrl across different pages. You'd probably have to put each of your large images on a page, and call each page each time. I'm not sure why you're so set on using frames, they have many disadvantages.

  • Text is cut off or disappear in large images

    Issue
    Text is cut off or does not appear on a type layer in large images (e.g.,
    400 MB) in Adobe Photoshop 5.x>.
    Solutions:
    Do one of the following:
    Solution 1
    Change anti-aliasing in the type layer:
    1 Double-click the type layer.
    2. In Photoshop 5.5>, select None, Crisp, or Strong from the Anti-Alias
    pop-up menu in the Type Tool dialog box. In Photoshop 5.0.2, deselect
    Anti-Aliased in the Type Tool dialog box.
    3. Click OK.
    Solution 2
    Move the type layer, open the Type Tool dialog box, click OK, and then move
    the layer back:
    1. Select the move tool.
    2. Move the type layer to the left until all the text is off the image.
    3. Double-click the type layer.
    4. Click OK in the Type Tool dialog box.
    5. Move the type layer back with the move tool. Do not move it back using
    the History palette.
    Solution 3
    Create the text using the type mask tool and fill the selection:
    1. Select the type mask tool and click in your image.
    2. Enter your text in the Type Tool dialog box. Click OK.
    3. Move the type selection to the desired location. If you can see part of
    the text on the existing type layer, you can use it as a guide to position
    the type selection.
    4. Select the layer on which you want the text to appear.
    5. Select a foreground color for the type.
    6. Choose Edit > Fill.
    7. Chose Select > Deselect.
    8. Remove the original type layer.
    Solution 4
    Create the text in Photoshop 5.0 or earlier, or in another application.
    Then, import the text into Photoshop 5.x and remove the original type layer.
    Additional Information
    The type tool cannot create anti-aliased text larger than 8192 pixels on the
    image canvas in Photoshop 5.x, although it can in earlier versions. The type
    mask tool, however, can create selections that exceed this limit. You can
    fill type mask selections to create pixels in the shape of type, but these
    pixels are not editable in the Type Tool dialog box and do not appear on a
    new Type layer.
