Duplicating previous "Temporary Folder" when adding another photo

Everytime I want to drag and drop something into iphoto from the internet it shows me an IMPORT OR EXISTING BOX, and whether I check "don't import" or "import", and check or don't check "apply to all duplicates it keeps importing every photo I have dragged over into a temporary folder. It drags the last photo and duplicates all those proceeding photos. So I end up with multiple event folders with all the same pictures that just grow in size as a add another photo. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using Safari to browse the Internet?
As to the Temporary Items issue.
As a Test: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and see if the problem recurs in this new blank library.

that is precisely where i added the songs to!
so can someone help me understand why i did this?
what need did i have to click this preference?
i know i made this choice...

why on earth is this feature a feature???
this feature is for copying files into the iTunes music folder when you are dragging/openning files into your library.
let's say you have a song file on your desktop that you just downloaded from Internet. if you double click on it or simply drag it into the iTunes windows, iTunes will automatically copy this file into your music folder. then, you can delete the file on your desktop since a copy have been made and referenced by iTunes.
if however this option isn't activated, the iTunes library will instead referenced the files in it's current location, i.e. in this exemple on your desktop.
personally, I keep the option checked so when I need to add files to the library, I know the will be managed by iTunes and then simply send the original to the trash. unchecking this option is mostly for people that want to manage files themselves outside the iTunes Music folder.

Can I label each batch of photos when adding to PHOTOS?

I hate PHOTOS already. I can't seem to find a way to label each batch of photos when uploading to PHOTOS as I did in iPhoto. Is there any way to do this? I might want to search for a group of photos like "The Smith Wedding" if I were a professional photographer and don't remember the date . It was simple in iPhoto. How do I do it in PHOTOS where it seems everything is organized by date only ??? Darn few preferences for me to tweak in this app. I'll send feedback to Apple if there is no way to do this.

Your answer was patronizingly obvious, and not at all helpful. I am just disturbed that Apple has removed a simple, obvious function. As a Mac owner since 1984 I can tell you that simple, obvious function has always been and should continue to be the hallmark of the Mac OS. I wanted to be sure that simple functionality is really gone before I send a feedback to Apple. BTW Totoff answered the question but it's still a clunky and not obvious function.

Iweb issues - photos are put in a RANDOM ORDER when added to photo grid

My website created with i-WEB contains a lot of photos.
When I add them to a photo grid (on a page using the "Photos" template, by dragging and dropping from Finder) the order of the photos is randomized by i-web.
They are kind of in reverse order (highest file number first) but with a large number of files just randomly arranged in no particular order. The files have simple numerical names like "img_100, img_101, img_102" etc which are in numerical / date order in Finder, but when loaded into i-web are not in any order.
I can't see a feature / option anywhere in I-web to re-arrange images according to name. I can of course manually rearrange them which is fine for a dozen images, but not when I have 500.
I have tried adding a small number of images to see if it's a problem with overloading the software with too many, but the problem happens with 5 images as well as 500.

The photo app puts files in date/time order and ignores their names.
You can look for another app that may honor file names (sorry, I don't know any to recommend) or you can find a program that alters your file properties. If all the files have properties that read the same date and time, then it defaults to alphabetical order

Aperture stops responding when adding another iPhoto library

I bought Aperture so that I could merge/add my wife's laptop iphoto library with her iMac Iphoto library. I have read all the forums and tried to make sure that everything was good to go for this process. When I try the process Aperture just stops responding every time. I have plenty of hard drive space, plenty of ram. check the librarys with the library first aid apps, everything!! I am mad because this shouldn't be difficult. Can anyone help.

How many photos and how long did you leave it before you decided it had stopped responding?
I was testing a theroy last week and did an import for 18,000 images, but with each image going to it's project so Aperture needed to create 18,000 projects for the import.
It stopped responding and to all intents it looked like it had died. But in Activity Monitor I kept an eye on how much memory was being used and noticed this was still changing over time so I let Aperture continue (even though it wasn't responding).
After about 4 hours, it crashed with a message saying it had caused the virtual mempory page file to 40+ GB which OS X decided was excessive and force quite Aperture. The point being, for those 4 hours when it appeared to have died, it was actually still working away.
So, first I'd recommend running the process overnight to give it enough time to finish or really die. If it really wont finish, it may be related to the Aperture/Mavericks memory leaks problems that have been reported here recently.
If you are not in a hurry, you could wait for Apple to stabilise the combination and see if it then works.
Alternatively, it you want to get it done quickly, here's what I'd try:
Which ever library you want to import, back it up and then open it directly in Aperture.
Organise the projects (what were events in iPhotos) into folders, say one folder for each year. So for example you now have a 2011 folder containing all your 2011 events (projects). CTRL + Click the 2011 folder and choose "Export->Folder As New Library". This will create a new library containing just the 2011 events.
Now, back in the main library tell Aperture to import this 2011 library and see if it handles the smaller (and Aperture created) library any better. If it does, you can go to the other library and repeat for each year of photos.
If it still doesn't, I try creating a brand new library in Aperture (File->Switch to libray->Other/New) and try importing the 2011 library into that.
Essentially you are trying two things with this approach. First, to see if smaller libraries import successfully. Second, to see if the import is successful when you import an Aperture created library into an Aperture created library (rather than an iPhoto created library into an iPhoto created library)

Ending one credit card type when adding another

Due to the change in our credit card processing from a flat rate to a percentage, I need to end our usage of a certain credit card type. In the configuration, I do not see away to delimite the card type. Yet deleting the credit card type from the list seems to leave us openfor problems, if we need to reprocess a card after we remove the card type from our configuration. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to end a credit card type? We can code in our CMAC_authorization and Biller Direct to not accept this card type. Would this be the solution?

There is not a direct way to just delimit the payment card types. So, you should use the method you mentioned, or possibly something like this:
- Define a 'Payment Card Lock' reason like '20 - Payment Card Type Obsolete'
- Do a mass update of the Payment Card table 'CCARD' to update 'CCLOCK = 20' where 'CCINS' = the card type to block.
This will then block usage of all cards of the obsolete card type.
Then, you need to stop users from creating new cards of that type. Aside from adding "obsolete" to the Card Type, you can also put in a Checking Rule (used when the card number is entered) for the card type to just reject all entries.
Of course, if all the new cards are entered via Biller Direct, you should customize the card creation screen to leave out the obsolete type.

DNS Error when adding another laptop to wireless router

I have a laptop running Vista networked to my wireless router. I want to add another laptop running XP to the network via a Belkin Wireless NIC. It makes the connection OK, but when I launch IE it returns "Cannot find server or DNS Error" and does not load the web page regardless of which site I try to connect to. I have tried porting the IE software from the Vista laptop and that did not work. I tried to connect to the Verizon router address using an Ethernet cable, but it could not access the router. I downloaded the Inhome Agent and used the software from it to no avail. I have been on the phone several times with Verizon to verify the IE Options setttings and procedures, but they are not able to help. I have no problem accessing the Internet from a public WiFi site. I'm sure it is something simple to fix. Anyone have a solution?

You should verify your ip configuration. To do so go to the command prompt:

Look for your wireless card and reply back with the following:
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DHCP Server
DNS Servers

Interesting. I tried one more time - instead of saving it to my hard drive, I ran it directly off the Mozilla site and it installed....
Something is definitely wrong with the Mozilla "save as" and THEN run process....

Lost purchased items when adding another apple tv to our network

We have had an apple tv working perfectly in a downstairs bedroom for about a year. I just bought another apple tv for our upstairs living room for xmas, and was told at the apple store that all i had to do to have them view videos from each other was to add them to our home network and sync it to our itunes on our home computer. i added the upstairs ATV to our network, and synced them both to my laptop, which i had never done for the downstairs ATV. now my downstairs ATV is completely empty, except for a couple of videos i had on our laptop. I can see all of our content that we had purchased for our downstairs ATV, over 100GB worth, on our iTunes but they're showing up in grey. i don't think they are sitting on our laptop or on the downstairs ATV. how do i recover those programs? they don't see to be available for re-downloading on iTunes. i'm bummed because we had a ton of programs on there. help!

There wasn't really anything wrong with the advice you were given from the store, unfortunately you chose to replace your primary library with the library on your laptop, whereas what you should have done is add it as a secondary library.
(Please excuse my unsupported nomenclature)
I suspect if you remove the laptop library as a primary library and re-link your original library as a primary and then add the laptop as a secondary library, you will once again have access to your purchased content.

Additionally, may I suggest doing something about only having your purchased content on the tv, it's not a good idea and can easily be lost, you may want to let it transfer to your primary library.

Background changes when adding another Desktop.

I have a background picture(a) on Desktop 1, I click Mission Control and add Desktop 2. Now the Desktop 2 has a background picture(b). So why is this happening? the new desktop should have the same background picture as the previews Desktop.

in OS X, this is a "feature" as it's set up to display the selected image when your external display is hooked up & then wen your laptop is by itself.
so... set your wallpaper with the external display hooked on both screens, & then set it without the extra display. it should then remember both.

Continuing Index numbers when adding photos

Does anyone know if it is possible to continue the index numbering when adding additional photos to a folder in which the photos were names with a custom name with index. To be clear, if the last photo in the folder is, for example, 'Big Ben 22', can I add more photos at a later date and have the new ones start at 'Big Ben 23....24....25 etc etc.
I am finding that it just starts at 1 again and doubles up - ie. there are then 2 x 'Big Ben 1' etc

Newbie - Why is iPhoto copying files to Pictures folder when I said not to?

I'm a total newbie to iPhoto. I literally just installed it for the first time ever about an hour ago, but I am well-versed in the ways of iTunes for example and its preferences the way it works with MP3s on an external drive, and how you can set a folder on an external drive to be the default music location, etc.
I would have thought that iPhoto would have worked in a similar manner with photos.
Here's the scenario: I keep all my photos (literally 1000's of them, and quite hi-res.) on a massive external drive, as my main computer's hard drive is (a) quite small, and (b) quite full as it is with other stuff.
The problem I am having with iPhoto is that before I placed a single photo into its Library, I specifically set my Preferences, under the Advanced tab, to NOT copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to Library.
But then when I placed a whole load of photos from my external drive into iPhoto, I noticed my available free space on my main computer's hard drive had decreased somewhat. So I had a look in Users > Brett > Pictures > iPhoto Library, and sure enough, duplicates of all the pictures I added to iPhoto from my external drive had been copied there too! Why?!?!
And even more frustrating is that there appears to be TWO copies of each photo on my main hard drive: half in named sub-folders in a "Data" folder set to 360x270 (pretty massive if that's supposed to be a thumbnail!!) and then the other half, at FULL-resolution, in named sub-folders in a folder called "Modified" (not that I've modified any of them, but anyway).
And with another copy on my external drive, I now have THREE copies of each photo! That's just ludicrous!!!
I don't want iPhoto to keep "extra" copies of my photos. I just want ONE copy of each photo, and I want these photos to be stored on my external drive ONLY.
How do I set it up to do this? Or can I not do this? Have I got the wrong idea of what iPhoto can and can't do?

If you look in the Originals folder and its subfolders you should see all alias files (very small in size) pointing to the source files on the external HD. In the Modified folder will be full sized files of any image file that was taken in the portrait orientation with a camera that has the auto-rotate capability. You can't get around it unless you rotate them before importing with a 3rd party application. Then in the Data folder are the thumbnail files. Those thumbnail files are for viewing up to a fairly good size before the original file kicks in when you use the slider bar in the thumbnail window. If you take your HD off line and then move that slider upward you can see how big you can get the thumbnail before it balks and gives you the "missing file" window of gray with a dotted rectangle.
Having the edited version lets you revert back to the original for other editing that might require a different crop (for printing a different sized photo for instance.) If you want just one copy of each photo you'll need to go to an application like iView MediaPro.
It may seem like a lot but when you think of what that library represents in full sized files on the external HD, you're really well off. My alias library of 27,000 files (29G in size) is only 1.6G on my boot drive. Even the professional applications like Aperture creates a second file when you edit and the thumbnail is either a separate file or embedded in the Aperature system for quick viewing without having to render the entire file.

ITunes won't copy music files to Media folder when songs are dragged

I am trying add songs from my external hard drive to my iTunes Library.
I have the following options checked:
"Keep iTunes Media folder organized."
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library."
In the past, I could just drag files from my hard drive into the iTunes song list and add them to the library. iTunes would successfully make a copy of the file to the iTunes Media folder so that I could disconnect the hard drive and still play the songs.
Suddenly, this no longer works. iTunes won't make a copy of the file anymore. It won't even make a copy of files located on my desktop.
I found a workaround -- copy the files from my hard drive to the desktop. Then I have to go to File > Add to Library in order for it to work.
It's an extra step, but it was VERY annoying to have to figure out.
So my question -- Is this an iTunes bug or some kind of deliberate attempt at making it hard to use files not purchased through iTunes?
I noticed this on one of the Apple support pages (my emphasis):

If you add media to iTunes another way (choosing "Add to library" from the File menu or by dragging an MP3 file into iTunes), it might not be added to your iTunes Media folder.

I have posted so many issues to APPLE on the staggering lack of basic functionality with itunes and each time they keep deleting it.
Automatically Addd feature does not work consistently if the library is on NAS or a drive not on the same bok as the Mac, iMac or PC.
iTuns will hang if you have the finder window open and the recently added playlist open
itunes will not add files automatically if more than three phases of adding folders to the automatically add to itune folder is refreshed
Once could even jump to the conclusion that the software testing and Quality Control in the iTunes development team had missed out whole chunks of tsting OR that the test designers wrote such basic test scripts which did not replicate real world useage.

Adding a photo gallery loses the editable region

Hello I have a test site that I am road testing for my client and have noticed a slight problem when adding a photo gallery. When a photo gallery is added to a page the once editable region then loses it’s editable status. When I take the page back in Dreamweaver the div is still showing as editable but this is not the case when using incontext editing.
Any help would be most welcome

It is a module, there is nothing to edit, the content isa module generation which renders the gallery based on its paramaters. In the case of a gallery you go add the images into the folder, give them captions in the admin if you wish and depending on the CSS setup you have they render.
I personally teach no client to use that editor, everything is through the admin with good web apps use and pages and good templates etc.

Trouble with music folder - when trying to add music to itunes library.

Ever since I updated itunes recently, I have been having difficulty adding music from my music file. When I go to File/Add File to Library it brings me to the default storage location, even though I have gone to Edit/Preferences/Advanced and changed my music folder to what I want to have come up when I go to add a song. My music folder has always been the same, but for some reason, it has all of a sudden decided to change to the default music folder, where my music isn't kept, and I can't seem to change it back. Is anyone having this issue as well? Please help!

I think you missed the question that "fillibrownis" raised (btw, I am seeing the same problem and it is quite frustrating).
The problem is that when we select File/Add File to Library, it throws up a box which displays the windows default music location (which is "My Music" on Windows XP). In previous versions, iTunes used to show the iTunes Music Location, as specified in (Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General). The benefit for such a thing was that user could directly copy music from external sources to the iTunes Music Location (without using the "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library).
