Duplication of songs with Itunes 7 upgrade

I had at least half of my library duplicated when I upgraded to iTunes 7. After deleting the duplicates, I still have over 1300 more songs supposedly than my backup computer that I have not yet upgraded to iTunes 7.
I can't figure out what all the extra files are at this point.
Help anyone?

The removal instructions were posted on a previous thread:

My iPad2 won't sync with iTunes.  Upgraded iPad to iOS 6, iTunes is latest version (10.7).  Cable connection.  What am I missing?

I'm having the same, identical problem. It goes into step 2 (backing up process) then it goes back to step one (finding iPad) and it starts over again. It will just keep doing that for 3 or 4 times until it will say "iPad not found". This is so frustrating.

  • Viewing songs with Itunes 7

When I click on the ipod icon in itunes it just shows a display of the ipod saying, update, restore...etc.. then it has tabs that say music, photos etc...
but is there a way to view the songs like in itunes v6?
how can i delete/view etc... songs with itunes v7
    please help

Click on the chevron > to the left of the iPod icon in the Source list. This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view with the information at the bottom.

and, what is even more strange...
I actually bought 2 Billy Joel songs NY State of Mind from Essential Billly Joel and Italian Restaurant from Greatist Hits vol 1.  Neither song would play.
I went back the Apple store and tried to re-download NYSOM.  It let me do it for free.  Before I checked I tried to re-dowload IR but inadvertantly selected same song but from The Stranger.  I had to pay for this one.  The re-downloaded NYSOM still didn't work but IR I bought from Stranger worked.  So, I bought NYSOM from Greatest Hits vol 1. Didn't work!!!  Tried again and bought from another album, Turnstiles, and that one worked.  So, I bought 5 songs, only 2 of which will work.
So, now I ask - is there any way to get my money back?

  • Distortion/stutter between songs with itunes 7.0.1.8

Everything was fine with itunes 6.x; then I upgraded to 7. Now when I play itunes on the sony computer, for 10 to 15 seconds between songs the music is distorted or stutters. Also itunes freezes for this time period. I have noticed the following: CPU usage shoots up from 6% to 70%. If I am using any other application (ie. program, email, etc.) it freezes for these few seconds. I have to stop playing/close itunes to do anything else on the computer. I have tried all the suggestions Apple has listed, Q time settings, updating the sound card driver, etc. to no avail!
The only solution I have found was to convert my itunes library to MP3, and created a play list in Windows Media Player. Every thing is fine, the music plays great. itunes at one time was state of the art, now just junk!
Any help would be most appreciate!
    SONY VAIO   Windows XP

Actually I have the same problem. It's really funny how if I go back to iTunes 6.x I don't have any problems at all, but as soon as 7.01 is installed it does this stuff.
I have Crossfader turned off, Safemode on, lowered the sample rate in Quicktime. I have the newest drivers for my Soundcard, and for Direct X
This is a REAL problem, I use iTunes to listen to the TONS of music that I purchased on the iTunes Music Store while I play World of Warcraft. This stinking total machine freeze totally hoses my game play.
I wish that Apple would look into WHY suddenly it takes a huge amount of System resources to change to another song in this version, when in the previous unbuggy version it took little to no system resources for iTunes to change to another song (and this was with Crossfader and sound Enchancer ON)
Perhaps the new Gapless Playback feature is causing the problem. I would turn it off, but I don't see the control to do so.
It would be nice to see an Apple Rep actually acknowledge a problem with the Windows version of iTunes, and give us a timeframe for when it will be fixed.

  • Problem with iTunes after upgrading

Hey guys my name is jake and my issue is so:
i've upgraded my iTunes to the latest version 7.4.3 yesterday and on the same day i've installed quick time 6.5 codec for some work i needed.
now i dont know if the quick time install is relate to it but since then my itunes wont open. it just errors me and ask me if i want to send or not to send eroor report
when running quicktime( the one came with itunes) it says buffer overrun detected
i tried reinstalling itunes few times and tried to install it on older version
nothing has worked. also removed the ipod driver and reinstalled it
    havent worked either.
    any advices?
    thanks ahead
    Jake

I recently upgraded to the latest that was offered and I think it was 7.4.1. Have they made a newer one since then??
Anyways, I had a problem immediately. I have a large majority of my music on an external hard drive, and some downloaded music on my computer. After upgrading, itunes would not work, and I discovered that when I unplugged the external hard drive (which contains most of my music) itunes did work and played what was already on my laptop. Everytime I try to plug my external hard drive back in, the same problem occurs: itunes freezes and I have to shut my computer down. I also noticed that it says I have something like 6000 songs and 347 GB! I don't know how many gigs 6000 songs might be depending on length, but there is no way I have 347 gigs of music since I have nowhere near that amount of space on my hard drive and external hard drive nor do I have that much music anyways...no CLUE what is going on here.
I'm afraid to delete itunes and reinstall it because I don't want the downloaded music on my computer to be deleted and I don't currently hve a place to back it up. Have you found any solutions/know what's going on with me??

  • Distortion/stutter/computer freezes between songs with itunes 7.0.2.16

Everything was fine with itunes 6.x; then I upgraded to 7.0.2.16. SONY VAIO   Windows XP   iPod Shuffle; itunes 7.0.2.16, SoundMax Digital Audio

I am having the same exact problem. My computer freezes for 3-5 seconds when the song has about 5 seconds left. I think it may have to do with the new "gapless" playback. This is garbage, I can't even use iTunes anymore. Have you been able to find any answers. If not, I just want to downgrade, but I don't know if that is possible.
I tried to install an older version but iTunes said that I have an newer version of iTunes on the computer, which is true, but the new version, 7.0.2.16, is not working. I hope someone finds something back from Apple because I don't want to reorganize all my music due to their bug.

  • Problems with iTunes after upgrading to 4.3!

After I have upgraded to 4.3 iTunes tells me my iPhone is connected to another Medialibrary (don't know the correct english word). So now I have several Apps on my iPhone, no one in iTunes and I will loose them when I syncronize with iTunes. How can I save all Apps and settings in my iPhone?

    Solved it.

  • With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync MAC iTunes playlists to my iPhone. Purchased new song with iTunes and it is on my MAC but will not update to iPhone when I sync!

With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync my iTunes MAC playlists to my iPhone!  I purchased a song on Itunes store and put it into a playlist on my MAC.  When I sync (as usual) with my iPhone, the playlist no longer updates to include the new song (i.e., playlist stuck at 16 not 17 songs)... yes, all devices are authorized... If I turn on HOME SHARING it will work, but the moment you disconnect, everything goes away... What is APPLE doing?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • 3rd Gen Ipod won't sync with Itunes since upgrade to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and since then my trusty 3rd Gen Ipod will not sync with iTunes (9.0.3). It mounts in Finder, but does not appear in iTunes. The iPod will still charge, but it constantly displays the "Do Not Disconnect" message until manually ejected.
    Any help gratefully received.

  • Problem downloading songs with itunes +?

I have purchased 2 songs with new itunes + but they won't download. Anyone else have this problem? And what can I do?
    Toshiba   Windows XP

I started converting the "old" versions at 8pm CDT last night and was not finished at 12. I had about 275 songs to do. All loaded but 61 Grand Funk songs. Someone tell me that Grand Funk is that popular? Many dashed out to a fast load, only to stop halfway through. I agree that Apple has a problem, and it probably is a large load on their servers--but Grand Funk does not load? Does not make sense unless that funk just rocks the servers too much. Someone fix the problem, as I have about 600 songs to go. Oh, I restated the download so many times and turned off firewalls --and suspended the anti-virus protection, etc, etc, etc.

  • Error when trying to purchase songs with iTunes account

Hi, is anyone able to help with this.
I am tryig to purchase some songs with my iTunes account (it is inn credit by about £6) but an error keeps coming up every time i try to purchase a song or if i try to view my account details. It is as if i am putting the password in wrong but i know that i am not. I have even reset the password now 3 times and it always seems as if it has gone through successfully but then when i try to purchase a song or view my account details again, the same error is coming up.
The error message is as follows:
*'We could not commplete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-9808) There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later'*
This message has been coming up all day though. Does anybody have any idea if i am doing anything wrong or whether there is a technical fault with iTunes? I have downloaded the updated version as well so it can't be because i have the older version.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to AD!
The top 4 fixes to itunes error 9808 seem to be
    1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced, make sure that SSL 3.0 is checked and TLS 1.0 is checked. Also under Security make sure that the “Check for server certificate revocation (requires restart)” is unchecked. Then click ok and fire up iTunes.
    2) Time or time zone not correct on your PC.
    3) The culprit was Norton. Ggo to Norton’s Personal Firewall and add the program “iTunes Helper.exe” and set the option to “Allowed” (”iTunes.exe should already be in the Allowed category.)
    4) Delete or cut the preferences.xml file which contains your iTunes preferences.
Close iTunes if you have it open right now. Then go to C:/Documents and Settings/username/Local Settings/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes. Then go to C:/Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes and delete or move the preferences.xml file. For Mac users, there is only one file you must delete or move a to a new location and is located at User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.itunes.plist. Restart iTunes and it will recreate those two (or one) files with the default settings. You'll need to set your preferences back to what they were and then connect to the iTunes store.

  • Problem with iTunes since upgrade. Won't sync properly. Please Help!

Ever since I have updated iTunes to 7.1, when I try to add songs onto my iPod, I get a message reading: The iPod "Sheri's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
My sister just bought the 8gig and out of 1600 songs, it accepted 2 songs. Please help!

Excuse the length of this but I felt detail was essential to hunting this down.
I must add my voice to this thread - seems one of several hundred that remains unanswered and I am fed up with dealing with this. If anyone has a thought I would welcome it. The search engine has no useful results to offer that I have been able to find.
Have a 20GB 4th Gen. iPod. Approximately 4100 songs - 18.2 GB in Library. Consistently after restoring with latest download as of this writing Apr.2 2007 experiencing again what I have been struggling with for weeks with this; As of today after a complete low level formatting of the hard drive - fresh reinstallation of Windows XP and all apps from scratch! 14 hrs of work dear apple folk, Having run a Complete virus check with Kaspersky IS 6.0 (trial), eTrust IS (Trial), and Norton IS 2007, Spy sweeper, Hitman Pro 2, Root kit revealer and a few others I am relatively convinced that there are no mal-spy wares on the system or iPod.
My iTunes library is on another physical drive. I have had no issues syncing from this drive when this did work.
Tried to reinstall the original iPod/iTunes software as per the disk shipped with the iPod # 2Z691-5715-A it failed at 99% to load due to an MSI error. - This confounded me.
Tried sync again using the most recent version of iTunes/QT and as previously posted by others without reply and experienced many times, repeat-many times over, have had the sync stall at no consistent point though roughly anywhere from 700 -1700 songs reportedly having been transferred only to stall. The iPod transfers only play lists no songs are transferred or listed though upon reboot and reattachment it shows data other than audio present but is obviously corrupted and the chkdsk message appears. Chkdsk finds no physical errors and I'm back to the restore loop. The iPod is restorable under Windows most of the time. Sometimes it is unable to do so. I have the luxury of a MacG4 Powerbook but my HD can't store those songs as it is for work use only but iTunes reformats it as a windows iPod or sometimes I have gone to restore it to Mac and then re-restore it to Windows format again on the PC. This I think eliminates the possibility that it is an issue with the USB connector or fire wire cables. I should be clear all sync is done via USB on the PC.
I have tried this on both the separate USB card installed on the system as well as through the USB ports available on the motherboard. Problem remains consistent.
I have experienced occasionally but for the most part infrequently, a report from my Konica/Minolta 2400W Colour Laser printer monitor - connected by USB on the Motherboard USB port, a sudden loss of communication with the printer preceding the iTunes sync stall. I have yet to try with the printer turned off and the monitor software removed but will report results in a further post - though this has never been a problem in the past.
Stall means that iTunes shows the sync in progress but no advancement from the song it is stuck on for hours. Task manager reports that the CPU is engaged at nearly fully utilization varying from 88 -99% of available resources. From iTunes an attempt to eject the iPod stalls with the eject button in pushed down state and hangs - the only way to proceed is to physically disconnect the iPod and close iTunes from the task manager. I have tried reducing the priority level of iTunes and the iPodhelper to see if I could buy time to eject the iPod without corruption but to no avail. Consistently, iPodhelper service and itunes.exe remains open even though the window closes. Of note those services remain running despite efforts to shut them down through task manager. This lead me initially to believe that the software was hijacked by a virus root kit or other malware but I have been unable to find any evidence to support that notion.
Further - i tried after restoring the iPod for the umpteenth time to try another software Media monkey. It too experienced the same bloody problem stalling out through the sync at 300 songs or so and same result with task manager unable to close process despite window being closed.
    My conclusions:
    Problem exists with iTunes software or some yet undeterminable windows process;
    a) USB communications seems fine as am able to restore iPod through connector. Windows XP Pro detects iPod as a drive in explorer.
    b) Song Database is fine and iTunes will play everything on hard drive(s) and in library.
    c) iPod is okay - able to sync and list a few sample songs off MAcG4 Powerbook when formatted Mac or PC.
    d) The R's all work - iPod reports no diagnostic issues
    e) No viral, spy ware, root kit or malware detected after comprehensive scanning.
So what next???? I am completely at a loss... and missing my music..

  • Using apple keyboard's default keys (play/pause, next, previous song) with iTunes on windows 7

    Hi,
I'm using my apple keyboard (wired with numpad) connected to a windows 7 machine. I'd like to know if there is any way for the default iTunes keys (previous song, play/pause song and next song) to work on windows? It's very annoying to constantly alt tab to iTunes and use the arrow keys and spacebar... Also, can I link the mute, lower and higher sound buttons to the audio output?
    Thanks in advance!!

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.
