Duration of 3d psd file

Hello everyone, please help on the following: I want to import a 3ds file into After Effects in order to apply animation, lights camera etc. I know the procedure under which the 3ds file has to be previously opened with Photoshop CS5 Extended, saved as a psd file and then imported as a composition into AE with the "Photoshop 3D layer" command checked. When I open up my imported composition in AE I get three layers: the camera, the controller and the photoshop layer, containing my 3d model and from then on I can start working with any axis. My issue is that in many cases, yet not all, I can change the composition's duration but the changes can only be applied to the camera and the controller, not the Photoshop layer at the bottom. Any ideas on this? Is it an AE thing or some kind of adjustment made from within Photoshop prior to saving to a psd file? I mean recently I downloaded a 3ds file and once I imported the composition into AE, the duration for all layers - including the Photoshop one - were 20 seconds, yet on another case it was hardly 30 frames. Any help would be appreciated.

This is defined by
a) whether the 3DS file is a scene file ratehr than just geometry and has timeline info attached (in which case you cannot extend it in PS even; nasty bug)
b) whether or not the animation panel in PS was open and thus accidentalyl a time range for animation defined
Check those things and work your way through...

  • Need help to convert multiple PSD files to Animated Gif files

    Hi,
I'm working on lot of screenshots. After scrubbing the screens I need to convert them as animated Gif's with 3 sec duration. Is there a way to automate the process? I would also need the source PSD files.
    Thanks,
    Vijay

    Hi,
If you select "File" , "Save as previos version"
I have attached a screen shot. Or do you require them to be saved in 8.0 as you do not have 8.2 ?

  • Using PSD files . . . HELP

I have a psd file with a transparent background. I have built it video template and pixel correction in photoshop. I need to know how to use it. I place it in the timeline. If i select it I then get a additional tab in the timeling for just that image. . I have figured out that I need to make duration changes in the tab. However, when I place it in the time line again (I need to use it several time) I can't change the duration of the second without changing the first usage, them both instances do not show in the viewer.
I have Tom Wolsky's FCE 2 book but can't find where it explains how to control a psd file. If some one could help me out it would be great. Even just directing me to the correct section of the book would help greatly.
    Thanks

If you need to manipulate the individual layers of the image in FCP, PSD will work fine. But if you don't, then use a TIFF file. Much more convenient to work with. Plus a TIFF file format will maintain it's layer editability in Photoshop and still show any applied layer effects in FCP without having to rasterize the layers.
For PSD, import the file, then double-click it in the Browser to load it into the Viewer. Set the duration (upper left hand TC window) prior to adding it to the Timeline.
Once it's in the Timeline, if you double-click it, it will open in it's own Sequence. To open it in the Viewer instead, right-click on the image and select "Open in Viewer."

  • Transitions on psd files

My wife has Adobe Premier, and she can put transitions between her PSD stills with no problem. I have Final Cut, and I can't. Is there's a certain file I can use that will be transparency, and be the same quality as Photoshop files/ with layers, and will allow me to put transitions on them. In other words, what is a quality file, that has transparency, that will allow me to put a transition between stills?
    Can you help me?

The short answer is use PNG (which will not allow layers, but will allow transparency)
There is nothing special about PSDs that prevent you from using transitions. You always need handles in order to do transitions. The problem is that you don't have handles. FCP imports PSD files as sequences. When you initially import the PSD file, a sequence is created based on the length of your Still/Freeze Duration in the User Preferences/Editing panel. By default it is set to 10 seconds. Each layer in the PSD file is translated to a video track in FCP within that sequence. You then have the option to take only the layer(s) you want and copy them from the PSD timeline into your edited sequence or to nest the sequence into your edited sequence. If you nest the sequence, the length of the clip will be limited to the length of the sequence (by default 10 seconds) so if you try to put a transition at the end of the nested sequence, you won't have any handles. The solution is to open the PSD sequence and make all the layers much, much longer. (Be aware that if you have that PSD sequence cut in to your edited sequence already, you will probably ripple everything in that sequence to the right.) Then cut in only the length you need, and you'll have all the handles you could ask for, which will allow transitions.

  • When importing a PSD file to superimpose......

.......when I superimpose it on a clip that is 1m54secs long, the PSD file shows(in the timeline) the full duration but only plays for 12 seconds and then disappears. When I look at the duration after import, it says 12 secs but when I amend the duration to 1min 54secs and try to superimpose, I get the error, insufficient content for edit.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Many thanks
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
The reason for that to happen is that your still duration is set to 12 seconds. Yes you may see a long lasting clip ON THE TIMELINE when you use the "overimpose" option but FCP remembers that your preferences are set to 12 seconds.
Hit Option+Q or go all the way up to the main menu>FCP>User Preferences then hit the editing tab and set still duration as you wish. Next re-import the still from file...and drag it from the browser directly onto the timeline (top track), finally drag the out point inwards if you wish to shorten the overimposed image. If you have set a greater still/clip duration you can drag the out point outwards too.

  • Stretching a psd file on timeline

i can stretch any file on the timeline except a psd file. i can stretch them to a duration of infinity, but not a psd. can you tell me why and how i can remedy it?

A Photoshop document is not a clip or image file, it's a sequence. That's why you can't drag a new duration. You need to set the duration, as Nick said, before you import it. If you have to give it a new length, you'll have to double click the PSD sequence to open the nest and extend it there.

  • Superimposing PSD files into Canvas

I am trying to superimpose a logo that is a PSD file (with transparent background) over my video which is 30min long. I can get the image to appear but it disappears after 10seconds. I have tried to change the duration but did not have any luck and the image still disappears. Is there a better way of doing this? I'd rather not overlay as it is faint already...
    Thanks in advance

The photoshop file comes in as a sequence, so you would have to double click it in the timeline and adjust the duration from within the nest. The TIFF trick will work, but you won't be able to work with the layers as you would a PSD file. If you have a need to work with layers, or want to know for future use, learn to work with the PSD file. You can really do a lot with it that you can't do with a TIFF file.

  • How can I access the thumbnail/preview image of a PSD file?

Hey guys I'm trying to salvage some work from a corrupted PSD file via the thumbnail. What happened was I saved my work and closed photoshop and hit the reset button on my PC afterwards by mistake (i dont see why this caused a problem because the program was fully closed at the time). When I open the file now it says it uses an unsupported blending mode, if i press ok I get an error saying incompatible PS version, if I press flatten it says unexpected end of file was encountered. Ive tried PSD repair tools and searched the net for solutions and there doesnt seem to be any - Ive pretty much given up on trying to repair the original file.
The thing is, the thumbnail of the file seems to be intact because I can still see it as the file icon. I wanted to know if there was any way i can access this thumbnail image so i can enlarge it. Any help would be very appreciated!!

I have an idea to try...  Earlier I mentioned the Windows Picture Viewer...  Normally that won't read PSD files, but I'm used to using that to look into PSD files because at one point I bought the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.
Something to try, and it won't cost anything:
    1.  Try downloading and installing the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack from here:  http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
    2.  Once it's installed you get a free trial period, so you can try opening your PSD file by right-clicking on it and choosing Preview.
If that fails, here's another thing to try:
Open the Bridge component of Photoshop and navigate to the folder in which you have the file.  It may be able to make a larger thumbnail than the one you're seeing.
Other than that, are you saying you're seeing the thumbnail in Windows Explorer?  If that's the case, what happens if you right-click in the white space near the file and choose View - Extra Large Icons?

  • Photoshop CS6 - Spot channels are not saved correctly in the psd files.

    Hi,
I'm using Photoshop CS6 and something happent a few days ago....some Windows or Adobe update messed up everything...I don't know...
    Here's how things are.
If I add to an image a couple of new spot channels (any Pantone color) and remove the informations from the CMYK channels (or not-the problem it's there anyway), I should have an image with 6 color plates (CMYK and the 2 Pantone). It doesn't happened anymore...
I'm using Corel to print the files and the previous saved files are fine, I have all the Spot colors there. Now, If I edit any file I've worked on before, and save it again, the spot colors dissapear when I'm importing the psd file in my Corel document. And if there is no information on the CMYK channels, I'm getting a blank image...
I hope someone will give me some ideas because I don't know what to do anymore...
    Codrut

Right. It's not reading these new saved files correctly. The old ones are fine.
I forgot to mention one thing. I've got this CS6 as an upgrade and I still have the CS5 one running on the same computer. The CS5 version does the same thing...
Today I tryed again to open a PSD (CS6) with another CS5 version from another computer and came with an error message "Could not complete your request because the specified color book cannot be found". And the file didn't opened....
Who messed up my color book and how can I fix it?

  • Photoshop CS6 colors have shifted for PSD files; no longer match Bridge colors, resulting jpg colors off too

Until last night, Photoshop has been working relatively well** (see below) However, I processed a batch of DNG files through Bridge and saved them as PSDs.  When I opened up the new PSD files in PSCS5, the colors had shifted - more green, less saturated.
I went back to the DNG files and opened each up separately in PS - the color looked good.  I edited them, saved them as PSD files, and reopened them in PS - the colors were bad.
I cleared the Preferences (by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift) when restarting PS.  Although it cleared up the pre-existing issue explained below **, it didn't fix the issue with the colors.
I rebooted my computer.  No luck.
I looked for available updates. None available.
I recalibrated my monitor (ColorMunki).  No luck.
I don't know what I did/what happened to cause the problem.  The day before, everything was fine.
I tried to fix it by experimenting with option under View.  The closest I could get the colors to matching those shown in Bridge was to set  View--Proof Colors-- Monitor RGB.
But here's the kicker - when I did a "save as" in PS the resulting jpeg had the same gross color shown in PS before setting the proof colors to Monitor RGB - and the jpeg colors are gross in Bridge and PS!  The same thing happens if I run a batch of PSDs via Bridge and save them as jpegs.  The resulting jpegs look gross in both PS and Bridge.
    HELP!
I'm using a PC with Windows 7.  All the images jpegs, DNG and PSD are in the RBG color space.

  • How to Edit and Replace Psd Files in Adobe Flash - Help!

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to flash and I am trying to build my first flash site using a flash template. I can use flash to edit certain components like header text, etc. But The content is impossible for me to change. I think that these are psd files, which I can open with gimp or another program and edit. I save and replace that file, but when I view movie again, the content is the same. I guess what I need to know is how to get these files back into my flash movie after I have edited them. Please help, I am no computer expert, but I am learning. A how to for dummies answer would be awesome.

Maybe You should try the Flash-forum:

  • Can not open .psd files in Photoshop!

I am using Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 (Macintosh 10.5.6). Files created in Photoshop are saved to disc as .psd. Next time upon opening (both double clicking file and opening from within Photoshop) message appears: ‘Could not complete your request because the file is empty’ (I can see the file and ‘look’ at it using space bar). Older .psd files open normally. I did start using Spaces a few days ago. Maybe that's the culprit? Any ideas?

That sounds like the files are corrupted.  I would be looking for disk problems.
And you really should be on MacOS 10.5.8 - they fix a lot of bugs with each dot release.

  • Can't Open PSD files in Photoshop! What's happening?

    Hi guys,
Can someone pls tell me why when I open a PSD file in Photoshop CS2 or CS3 , the psd file apparently seems to be opened but in reality nothing happens as I only get a blank image in Photoshop? In other words, it's like the file has not been opened at all as I only get the usual very small grey and white boxes in Photoshop although at the same time the psd filename and other data associated with the file can be seen on Photoshop's interface as if the file has been loaded normally when in fact it's far from it?!!!...
    Am I doing something wrong?
Just to let you know this happens after I tried to open a downloaded file from the Internet but it happens all the time when I try these kind of files in photoshop.
    Pls help
Thanks in advance for your help..
    Corolla...

    Hello guys,
Thanks for your replies first of all.
To answer your questions John, please refer to the Print Screen in this link: http://i32.tinypic.com/2vhzvvm.jpg
I highlighted in yellow the most important things related to this topic in the pic, also referred to in my previous email.
I got the psd file from a public filehosting site and many users thanked the uploader for his great upload; thus I must have something wrong or I'm doing it wrong as the others seem not to have this prob!!!
As regards Ed's question, no indeed, I don't have any problems if I create a psd file myself closes it and opens it whenever I want.
And the filesizes are not at all small as the ones I'm talking about and which I'm having the problems with are sized from 20MB to 32MB.
Reference to your last question Ed, no I haven't tried to trash/reset preferences as per the FAQ as I have only been using Photoshop very recently.
    Thanks in advance.

Seems like strange I don't know.

  • Photoshop CS3 shuts down after opening a PSD file with layers

Hello, I have met a problem with Photoshop CS3 (Windows XP SP2, no network printer) - after opening a PSD file with layers (saved with CS2) Photoshop shuts down. No error message.
Can some of you help me? (The only software that I have installed after Creative Suite CS3 is Corel X4. I have installed no upgrades of CS3.)

    You should!
Even if it doesn't help here you should.

  • Problem with Preview and PSD files - random gray square

Hi guys, hope you can help...
I've got a problem with Preview and PSD files.
If I open in Preview both an original jpg straight from my reflex and the photoshop version of the same picture, the psd file presents a gray square (of what it seems unrendered image) in a random area of the photo (sometimes in the center.). The square is quite big...
If I zoom in or zoom out it disappears...if I scroll to another photo and then back to the psd, the square it's there again...sometimes in a different position.
I've tried the same psd on my older iMac with leopard...and got no problem at all.
I suspect it got something to do with my Ati...
(this is the second iMac 27...the first went back for gray banding on the lcd screen and flickering and yellow tinge........)
    Thanks for your help.
    DAve.

    maybe I'm onto something...
I've just found out that opening Preview in 32bit mode (instead of default 64bit) works flawlessly with any psd files. If I switch back to 64bit mode, Preview is much faster but the gray square comes back...
It seems like the i7 is much faster than the Ati....
    Any more realistic ideas?
