Duration of still images between 0,1s and 1s... How to?

Hello,
After looking and reading at many threads... I figured out that I needed to ask for some help...
Here's my problem, I'm making a stop motion video on iMovie 10, and I can't find the way to change the duration of still images between 0,1s and 1s... no matter what duration I enter, iMovie always change it back to whether 0,1s or 1s...
I know that there's a solution as I did it before on the same version of iMovie (wish I wrote down how I did that!)
I can do it with the precision editor, but only picture by picture... I have 200 of them, so it's way too long!
I know there's a solution!! Just can't remember it / find it...
Hope someone will be able to help me!!
Cheers!
Nico
PS: I can't use the "." in iMovie to change the duration, I have to use the "," (french standards I guess...)

I just did some testing on this, and it seems like the Still/Freeze Duration, Preview Pre and Post-Roll changes depending on what audio/video settings you have chosen. Try selecting DV NTSC in Easy Setup. Then check your User Preferences -> Editing.
DV NTSC:
Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:10:00
Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:05:00
Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:00
Try switching to DV PAL in Easy Setup, and check your User Preferences -> Editing again.
DV PAL:
Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:12:00
Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:06:00
Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:10
When importing still images using the DV PAL Easy Setup, the stills get a duration of 10 seconds, even though the User Preferences -> Editing are set to 00:00:12:00.
Can somebody please explain why it is like this? I hope there is a logical explanation

  • Still images stuttering on playhead and preview

I am in Premiere Pro CC and my still images that are pans and zooms stutter to a rhythm in preview and export. I can see the played stuttering as it plays!
    Any ideas?

A few details on your system ... OS, CPU, RAM, GPU, and the specific PrPro version (there are five different versions between CC and 2014). Plus ... what's your disc layout, number of, connections, and what's where?
Next ... what sort of sequence do you have, and the data on the image sizes vs the frame-size of the sequence? And what is the image type?

    Tonaw,
If you import your still images using iPhoto, then the time you set for each still, using FCPX Perferences works.
You can set the durantion from 1 frame to as long as you want them view.
If you do not use iPhoto to import your stills, the default is 10 sec's.
FYI: This issue was brought up within a month after FCPX was released. They found out by using iPhoto, you had better control of the amount of time your still was viewed.

  • Duration of still images when importing

    Hello,
just a quick one that has puzzled (and bothered) me for some time now. I guess it's my doing something wrong in the first place, but then again it's Monday, so I can do with some bad news to ease into the week.....
As far as I know, it's possible to tell FCP how long you want stills to be when you import them. Go to the user preferences, set still duration under the edit tab to, say, 5 secs and FCP should import stills at a length of 5 ecs. Right?
Well, whenever I try that, my stills are only 4.05 secs, and setting the still duration to 10.00 secs in the preferences gives me stills in FCP that are 8.08 secs long. Is there something I'm missing?
I've tried several formats, JPGE, PDFs, TIFs, PSDs, PICTs, TARGAs, PNGs....all show the same behaviour.
Of course I could fix the duration in the browser or in the Timeline, but it would be much easier if I could import stills at the proper duration in the first place.
    Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch, and hope you all have a good week ahead of you,
    Colin

  • Using still images with Final Cut (and the apple suite in general)

I have had a re-occuring and long term problem that has caused me many lost hours of head scratching and work arounds, and as of yet I have not been able to come up with a good solution.
Its to do with integrating still images with the Final Cut suite.
If I receive a high quality image from a client to use in their video and I then try importing it into Final Cut and animating it, it always ends up looking like a pile of ahem. Often I will get "swimming" lines appear across fine detail on the image, and parts of it will flicker as it moves across the screen. For instance, if I have a picture of some blinds or other fine detail (especially horizontal and vertical lines), when I add a grow and throw movement to it the detail will become very noisy - buzzing and flickering like mad.
I have found I can counter this by resizing the image in photoshop to a resolution closer to SD video (700w or 500h) - but I always end up losing detail, and the flickering and noise is only reduced, not eliminated. Other things that have helped are blur effects applied at a very low level, like 0.5 blur, so its not noticeable visually, but Final Cut seems to treat it differently and quieten the noise and flicker down.
However, all of these workarounds are ultimately still giving a reduced quality product.
Also, this problem is not necessarily constrained to Final Cut, I am currently fighting DVD Studio Pro because it is murdering the text quality in a stills slideshow I am creating - and in this situation there is no animation being applied. No matter what file type (psd, jpeg, tiff, png...) or size I output the text and images from Photoshop in, the moment DVD studio pro gets hold of it, it turns to cripe.
For a while I was putting it down to the fact that I usually edit in SD (PAL) formats, and there just wasn't the resolution available to reproduce fine detail. However, I do often see other people achieving pin-sharp fine detail on still images and text in SD formats (the Apple templates are a good example)
So, my question to you, oh great and high boffins, if you are dealing with still images and text, how do you do it? How do you work around any noise problems you have, and how do you produce those pin-sharp images (both moving and still) I see in other professional productions?
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

still images with too high a resolution will always cause problems. this is due to the detail of the image being finer than the scanline of the tv can display ... obviously this will caise the image to flicker as these details alternately appear and disappear as and when the scanline can display them. as you have discovered, the answer is to apply a very small blur, the effect being that the detail is spread by the blur such that the scanline can dislay it correctly.
text issues are often rooted in the same problem ... unless the text is placed very carefully (whole even number on the y axis) then the quality may be impaired due to the resulting interlacing/scanline issues

  • How to drag and drop image between Windows platform and VM

    Thanks.

    Hi Deer2000,
There are several things you need to do first. You need a Transferable that can provide the image data in a format that the application likes. You will not be able to drop a serialized ImageIcon onto a native app for example. Most won't accept a binary stream even if you declare it's MIME type (e.g. image/jpeg) either.
You need to know what the native "clipboard" formats are. For example on Win32, DIB (device independent bitmap) and BITMAP are clipboard image formats. Learn the format and write an InputStream the can provide it. Then add your stream to a FlavorMap.
What is a FlavorMap and why do I need one?
Most native apps don't understand MIME types for data transfer. They have their own "clipboard" types. Java DataFlavors are based on MIME types. In order to provide a mapping between the win32 format TEXT and MIME types text/plain;charset=ascii you create a FlavorMap. Actually the default system flavormap does this type for you.
An easy way to add mappings is to edit $JDKHOME/jre/lib/flavormap.properties. For our custom image stream we've added the following entry:
    DIB=image/x-win-bmp;class=com.rockhoppertech.dnd.datatransfer.BitmapInputStream
    Other Win32 clipboard formats are:
    WAVE
    RIFF
    PALETTE
    ENHMETAFILE
    METAFILEPICT
    DIB
    TIFF
Or please refer this URL, which gives a good idea about drag and drop in Java

I hope this will help you.

  • Visual difference in image between acrobat 6 and above

    Hi Jayakrishnan,
There can be different reasons of this behavior. Different image formats carry different information along with them. For example, a PNG can carry gamma along with it. Different software follow different ways to handle this. Acrobat 6, being an older version (a very old version actually) works on older algorithm. There weren't many advanced image formats available at that time. Acrobat 9 should be able to handle images with more details.
I can provide you more details if I can look into the data of some sample images that you have.

  • Setting duration of still images

I'm having a problem trying to make a timelapse. I'm importing from iphoto into imovieHD. I turn off the Ken Burns feature and set the duration to the shortest setting (00:03). This should be a duration of 3 frames, correct? What happens, however is a duration much longer, usually 9 and a half seconds. I'm very confused- any help??
    thanks,
    Erik

Odd that you should see that.
Normally it would show 0:00:00 (minutes, seconds, frames).
Have you tried closing iMovie and deleting its plist file?

  • How to set the duration of each pic in a slideshow (and also how to pan and zoom)

I have about 30 pictures I would like to add to a slide show.
When I add them the duration for each picture is set to 6 seconds.
I would like this changed to 4 seconds.
But manually changing the duration of each individual picture, one by one, is a slow and tedious task.
Is there a way of changing the duration of all my pictures at the same time, from 6 seconds to 4 seconds ?
Or can I change a setting so that when I insert my pictures the duration is set to 4 seconds instead of 6 seconds ?
As for the pan and zoom, I have seen the pan and zoom effect but this has a black border around the pictures as they zoom in and out.
For example, when zooming in the picture starts small with a black border all round the edge.
When zooming out the picture ends small with a black border all round the edge.
Is there a way to pan and zoom starting with a full screen when zooming in, and ending with a full screen when zooming out ?
Thereby not showing any ugly black borders.
My Nokia N73 phone can do it !
You can view the pictures as a slide show and when it pans and zooms it looks so much better because it does not show any black borders.
The picture ALWAYS fills the screen even though it is panning and zooming.

If you go to Edit/Preferences, you can set the default duration for each slide. This will affect only those photos you've imported into your project AFTER changing this preference.
You should also turn off the preference for Scale to Frame Size, so your photos do not fill the screen. (And, for efficiency's sake, make sure your source photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs at the top of this forum.)
You can also set the duration of each slide by selecting all of the stills you want to include on in your slideshow, right-clicking and selecting the Create Slideshow option.

  • Consistant Scrolling position between cursor keys and mouse - how to do it??

When I read with Adobe Reader, I often use the mouse on my laptop and scroll the pages down with the scrollbar and then become engrossed  in reading the article.
Being engrossed, however, I also sometimes press the cursor down key, with the expectation that it will scroll the page down from the current position I am reading from.
Unfortunately it jumps to whereever it was 50 or so pages before, or to the start and I have to mess around trying to find my place.
It's deeply, deeply irritating and slows down my reading significantly.
I have read all the Adobe reader help and settings, but cannot find anywhere I can change this behavour. I
Anyone else affected by this and if so how did you overcome it?

I shoud be clearer and say that it jumps to wherever the cursor was last placed by the cursor keys.
Can't believe its just me who has this problem....

  • How do you edit the duration of multiple still images?

FCP X has a default duration for still images when you import them. After importing, how can I edit the duration of multiple clips?

  • Still images per second and "shutter times" for webcams

Hi! I'd like to know how frequent a webcam (such as Optia AF) can take still images (at for example 2 megapixel) and send them to the PC via USB. Also, I'd like to know how long the "shutter time" is for still images, and if it can be adjusted. I want to be able to take sharp still images of moving objects and to process those images in near realtime. What webcam would be good to use for this purpose?I would be grateful for any advice!

Great news. For Time-Lapse, I probably go with 3 - 5 Frames for my Stills Duration most often, but it depends on the look and feel that I am trying to obtain, and also the interval that the shooting took place. Sometimes I end up with less, but sometimes more - it just depends on the look. I usually do a test Project, and Import a few Images at 3 Frames, then play that many times, to see if I like it. If not, then off I go to 4 Frames, etc.. You were going in the other direction, as you already had a good feel for the pacing of your piece - you just needed to do the math to get there.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
