Duration of task

How do I get a task has a duration of one day? For the WorkflowLab not provide task lasting less than one day.

Workflow items can't have duration associated with them, but you can use the duration based grids to visually give the task a duration based on the grid. In Beta 1, the grid allows you to have a number of durations including days, hours, months, or years. The workflow items are then resized to fit within the grid as desired.
Unfortunately, the item cannot be shrunk enough to fit exactly within a single day when the duration based grid is set to days. We are addressing this in Beta 2.

  • Difference between Due Date for All Tasks and Duration per task in an approval workflow

    Hello,
I'm starting to read up and learn about approval workflows in Designer 2010.  I am confused by the fields "Due Date for all Tasks" and the "Duration per task".  I understand that the Due date for all Tasks is the date that all
of the tasks in the workflow must be completed by.  And I understand that the duration means each task has x number of days to complete.
But I dont know whey we need them both.  If I have the task duration set to two days and there are 3 tasks involved, then wouldn't the due date be 6 days from the start?  Why would I have a due date for all tasks that is completely different than
the sum of the duration of days for each task?
    Please help shed some light!

    Hi Michelle,
Due date for all tasks, this setting specifies the date by which all tasks are due. It’s used for serial and parallel
    task.
Duration per tasks, this setting specifies the date by which an individual
task is due, it’s used for serial workflow participants.
Note, when you create an approval workflow, select task process participants(approvers oob approval workflow), we can also
select once at a time(serial) or all at once(parallel).

i need a table for maintenance plan which has field
    1) Duration of Task/Frequency
    2) Change in Duration/Frequency
below i have elaborated my requirements.
among those fields i have got the table name mpos, mpla, plpo except the above listed two feilds.
i have to create a report with these requirements.
anyone tell me in which table can i get that 6 and 7th fields.
    Requirement1:
    Maintenance Plan Number
    Operation Code
    Standard Teode(assigned to Plan)
    Standard Text Key description
    Cost Center
    Duration of Task/Frequency
    Change in Duration/Frequency

  • CProjects 3.1: Changing calendar does not recalculate durations and dates

    Hi Guys,
I have not set a calendar at the project definition in level in the cprojects structure. I have set dates and durations for tasks and stages. Since I have not specified a calendar the calculated dates and durations consider all days including weekends. If I now specify a calendar which is defined to have 5 day work week, the calculated date and durations are not updated. Any ideas? I would like to avoid manually making changes to each and every task so that new calendard takes effect.
    Thanks...
    Lashan

    Hi Zhenbo,
Thanks for the reply. We are on patch level 9, so the fixes for this is already in. I tested the issue mentioned in the OSS note and it is working fine in our system. I can change the calendar at task or phase level and the durations/dates are calculated correctly.
The issue I am facing is that the calendar is defined in the project definition. For phases and tasks I have specified "use from project". When I change in the project definition level, this change is not reflected in the phases or tasks below.
    Am I missing something?
    Cheers,

  • Work duration with 2 decimal places

All, i need to maintain a task with 25 min, using unit of measure H. Is there any way of setting up the work duration for tasks with more than  1 decimal place? Or the only way is to have different unit of measure?
    Thanks,
    Ana

    Hello AA,
Use unit of measurement as 'MIN' - Minutes for duration. Rest SAP will take care.

  • How to set task to start on the same day its predecessor ends

I want my tasks with depdencies to start on the same day that its predecessor ends.
This is what I want for example (note differences in bold):
    Task 1
    Start-Finish Date: 3/3 - 3/5
    Task 2
    Start-Finish Date: 3/5 - 3/6
    Predecessor: Task 1
This is what MS Project sets it as default:
    Task 1
    Duration: 3/3 - 3/5
    Task 2
    Duration: 3/6 - 3/7
    Predecessor: Task 1
How do I change this? Sorry, the bold doesnt work on this forum (Not sure why MS did this)
    MS Project 2013

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
Please change the date format to show time, which will help to show start time and end
time along with dates. You can add time using below steps.<o:p></o:p>
Project 2010/2013: Click on File >> Options >> under general tab select the date format to show date and time<o:p></o:p>
    Project 2007: Tools >> Options >> View >> Date Format<o:p></o:p>
By default task start time is 8 AM and end time is 5 PM. So if Task 1 finish date is 3.6 5:00 PM then the next task will start on next day 8 AM.<o:p></o:p>
You can change the duration of task1 to 1.5 days which will help to end the task on 3.6
12:00 PM and then the task2 will start on same day. <o:p></o:p>
I would not recommend changing the start and end date/time for task manually
as doing that will add constraint to the tasks. Instead of that you should change the duration for tasks and let MS Project calculate the dates for tasks.<o:p></o:p>
    Hope this helps.<o:p></o:p>
    Thank you,<o:p></o:p>

  • Ensuring a task isn't interrupted

I'm working on a project which has a block of time during which nothing can happen.  For all intents and purposes, it's a holiday block in the project calendar.
The problem is that some of my tasks cannot be "paused" or interrupted once they have begun.  Therefore, I need to either finish BEFORE the start of the holiday block, or start AFTER the end of the holiday block.  These are hard deadlines
(legal) -- it is NOT a project management issue of using resources overtime, and the task has 0% chance of success if it is spread across the non-working time (think: surgeries, baking cakes, etc).
I've been searching for solutions, and it appears there is one with a trick using 1 minute tasks
Here preceeding and following the uninterruptible tasks, but surely there is a built-in way to handle this in MS Project 2013?  What am I missing?  I'd love to use autoscheduling with this, but it's looking more and more unlikely.
    Help is appreciated!
    PTC

    PTC,
Just for reference, this question has been asked multiple times over the years. There are basically two solutions, the one minute queueing as described by Mike and Julie in the reference you found, the other is a VBA solution that looks at all the tasks
in a schedule and those that are marked, say by a Flag field, are analyzed to determine whether or not they will be executed in continuous time. If not, the tasks are moved to the next working day. Herewith is that code:
'This macro ensures all selected tasks can be completed continuously once started.
'   Tasks are selected by setting Flag1. Note: this procedure does leave a
'   start-no-earlier-than constraint on all shifted tasks
'written by John 10/24/13 8:00 am
    Dim t As Task
Dim EndTime As String, StartTime As String, ProjCal As String
    Dim WkD As Integer
    Dim DayDate As Date
    Sub NextDayB()
    'cycle through each task
    ProjCal = ActiveProject.Calendar
    For Each t In ActiveProject.Tasks
        'skip over blank lines
If Not t Is Nothing Then
'only look at Start time of non-summary tasks
            If t.Summary = False And t.Flag1 = True Then
'find default start and end times for this task
                WkD = Weekday(t.Start)
                StartTime = ActiveProject.BaseCalendars(ProjCal).WeekDays(WkD).Shift1.Start
                EndTime = ActiveProject.BaseCalendars(ProjCal).WeekDays(WkD).Shift2.Finish
'create faux end date & time if task ended the same date it started
                DayEnd = DateValue(t.Start) & " " & EndTime
                If Application.DateDifference(t.Start, DayEnd) < t.Duration Then
'task won't finish the same day so move it to start first thing next working day
                    t.Start = DateValue(Application.DateAdd(t.Start, "1d")) & " " & StartTime
                End If
            End If
        End If
    Next t

  • Task types without resources assigned

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me figure this out. May sound dumb, but hey, no harm in asking.
Since task types, resources and effort driven option all tie in together, does it matter if using Fixed Units or Fixed Duration for tasks don't have resources assigned and are
not effort driven? What difference will it make since 2 entities are not being used?
FYI - Project tasks are currently as Fixed Units.
    Thanks

    Hi,
As you well defined that all these parameters (Work, Work type, Units & Durations) are tied and formula too works based on the values in these fields. Duration = Work/Units so the moment you take off units from the formula you are taking off the calculation
functionality (related to these parameters) of the tool and everything gets dependent on your manual inputs.
Even though based on the value you manually enter in work or % complete your actual work and remaining work plus remaining durations etc. do get calculated, yet I would say assign the resources to reach out to factual calculations.

  • Timed tasks

Dear all, now in the right place
Because I started this thread in a solved thread, I will copy the messages to here
I am trying to do a similar thing.
I need to do 4 tasks in a loop of 1000ms.
I need to input cycles between each task and cycles duration each task.
For example for task 1 i need a duration of 100  cycles (gives a true value) each 1000 cycles. and the same for the other 3 tasks.
I let the first code but seems complicated.....if You can help me with simplest way...I am really thank you.
It is not clear exactly what you want to do.  Please give a better description of your tasks and timing requirements.  When you refer to cycles, do you mean iterations of the while loop?
    Lynn
The task will be something that works until it is true and it will be true for a certain number of cycles (iterations loop) then waits a certain number of cycles (this will be a false value) and turns true again.
This tasks will be in time with cycles of loop iterations.

    Hello cpalha,
If you want to run a task for a certain amount loop cycle and make her sleep for another one, you can use a condition loop in the while loop.
I made you a VI which explain it.

  • Monitor user access (Fusion Middleware)

    Hi All
Please advise if it is possible to monitor user login and logoff times when accessing any of the various fusion middleware components...
Specifically SOA Suite 11g (Enterprise Manager, OSB, etc).
I would like to audit and report on the time, duration, and tasks completed each time a user accesses any of the components mentioned above.
I have come across a Product called [Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control] that might be suitable to my requirements.

  • Customized DataTips

    Hi,
I am using a Flex 3 Plot chart component which takes its data from an external XML file
I am showing the dataTips on mouse over the plot.
    1) I would like to have the dataTip to remain / appear as long as the mouse is over the DataTip box also.
Only on removing the mouse out from the plot point (or) the DataTip box, the dataTip should disappear.
    2) Also, the DataTip can disappear when the user forces to close the Tip by clicking the close icon in the DataTip.
How do I achieve the above functionality?
    - Sen

    Hi Shery,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to send notification to an addition approver when the request is pending for two days.
I recommend to use the Expiration function to send the email notification after the task is pending for two days.
    1. Set the Duration per Task  to be 2 days in the approval workflow in SharePoint Designer.
    2. Click Approval in the Start Approval Process step in the workflow, then click Change the behavior of a single task under Customization, and then change the user in the email step under When a Task Expires or reassign the task to another user based on
    your need.

  • Simple Operational Profile and Plan does not run against agent

So i'm attempting to use the Operational Profile function of Ops Center to extend some functionality which it does not have (set up bonded interfaces during build process of OL 6.x)
However my script is having issues it never seems to run as a remote shell. So I simplified it, and broke my script down to simply

I've poured over the documentation, my script runs fine when manually incanted from the command line.
I've attempted following https://blogs.oracle.com/oem/entry/ops_center_using_operational_profiles but as you can see even my simple of simple plans does not run, let alone anything more complex.

  • "Finish" date

    Hello,
    PS 2010
I have some issues related with filed "Start" and "Finish" on task.
    1. I create new task "Test", set "Start"to 01.01.2014 and "finish" to 31.12.2014. Save and Publish project.
    2. Next I reported hours to "Test" task. As a project leader I accepted and published hours.
    3. Today I can see that "Finish" date is set to 08.01.2015.
Why field "Finish" date is modified ? Nobady change this manually.

    Hello,
    Thank you for quick help
    1. Task Type = Fixed Duration - all tasks are "Manually Schedule", in this case it is not possible to change task type.
    2. Auto Levelling is turned off
I really can't understand why finish\ start date is changing when user report hours to task. In my opinion it is not normal :(
    Any other ideas ?

  • Gantt Tree suggestions...

I'm going to start an lil own project soon that consist of a lil project management app.
Now, I'm just thinking OO design stuff and one of the complex was the task relationships tree.
Of course we got task, and a single task can have many dependents with other task/s, many dependencies also with other task/s or none of both (an independent task).
There can be several types of tasks.
FinishToStartRelationship - One task must finish in order to begin the other task.
StartToStartRelationship - One task must start in order to start the other task.
So I also supossed a NullTaskRelationship for an independent Task that has no dependencies.
now how can i iterate the three ? asking the task... or asking the relationship...
Any suggestions for a better (maybe optimal :) ) desing...
    THanks...

You should consider the Gantt chart to be just one view of the tasks and dependencies. The network diagram (PERT chart) and WBS are other views. Also there is only really one kind of dependency, its FinishToStart, since a StartToStart is just two tasks with a common dependency on the completion of some other task, possibly of zero duration. Tasks with no dependencies are still dependent on the start of the project, and the end of project is dependent on them.
You might find a project makes more sense if modeled as a network rather than a tree, there are also a well understood iterative solution to optimizing the network and finding the critical path. The solution first iterates from start to end following all forward links, recording times in the tasks and then from end to start following the links back completing the calculations and recording the results in the tasks. Here's a reference to PERT with the algorithm http://www.sce.carleton.ca/faculty/chinneck/po/Chapter11.pdf.

  • Finish to Finish isn't Being Enforced - Why?

    Hi All,
I'm struggling...I have a task that needs to have a Finish to Finish (FF) relationship to a prior task because the task cannot finish before the first one finishes.  It was working fine until Actual Hours were entered. now the FF isn't being enforced
and I don't understand why.   It is allowing the task to finish months prior to the first task finishing.
Task Inspector doesn't show anything useful I can find, but if I delete the predecessor and then add it again, I get a warning:
but I don't think there's any conflict.  The task has no constraints on it, nor does the predesscor task.  Row 41 is the one I am speaking of specifically, it should have a FF with task 35, but you can see it's not enforced like the other tasks
that also have a FF with 35.  The difference are the Actual Hours on 41, which I understand will effect the Start, but shouldn't effect Finish.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks!

    RichPM,
Yes, that's correct, once a task has started, the predecessor link still exists but it is as I said, null-and-void. Keep in mind that task dependencies define the dynamics of a schedule - how things will play out according to the original plan. The plan
remains dynamic until actual data drives a stake in the ground. Network logic continues to drive the schedule for any tasks that have not actually started.
I was going to use your tasks as an example but you apparently have some custom calendars that make it difficult to replicate your dates so I'll use a simple example. Let's say we have two tasks A and B that are set up with a finish-to-finish dependency.
Task A has a start date of 8/18/14 with a duration of 10 days and task B has a start date of 8/25/14 with a duration of 5 days. The start date of task B is driven by the finish-to-finish predecessor with task A so both tasks have a planned finish date of 8/29/14.
Task A starts on plan (i.e. 8/18/14). The resources were available to go ahead and start task B so an actual start of 8/20/14 is entered for task B. Since there is nothing that changed the duration of task B, it remains at 5 days, and that then pulls the finish
date back to  8/26/14, three days earlier than the finish date of Task A (8/29/14). Oops.
If both tasks must finish together, how do we fix this? There are a few ways, but trying to set up a finish-no-earlier-than constraint isn't one of them. We could simply extend the duration to 8 days but that will increase the work content. If the work content
must remain unchanged, we can edit the work or resource assignment level such that the desired finish date of 8/29/14 is maintained.
Note that if task A has a delayed start date, and task B has not been started, then the schedule dynamics will still be in effect and task B will slide out such that it still shows a finish date the same as task A.
    Hope this helps.
    John
