During a trip, whenever I shut off my Vixia HF S10 video, a message flashed "Task in progress.

"Task in progress.  Do not disconnect the power source"
After connecting to my iMac /Final Cut Express, I can only see 5 Gb of the 12 Gb movie file, but I can't access the file.  The other 7 Gb is nowhere to be found. However, the computer shows 12 Gb in the Canon.
Do I have any chance of recovering the remaining 7 Gb?

Hello Butch13,
This message means that the camera is updating the memory.  If the camera was disconnected from the power source or the battery pack removed it can cause errors to occur.  Final Cut is not supported through Canon, and we can recommend that you contact them if you require support on that product.  With regards to "seeing" the remaining footage, we suggest trying to essentially copy and paste the footage from the camera to your hard disk.  If it's not there, or corrupted, the most likely cause was the message you received.  We don't support file recovery software and you may want to run a search online for an applicable program for this need.

ios 6 killed my ipod. i had it on the charger for the update, when all of a sudden it shut off when the it was displaying the apple logo with the little loading bar underneath it. now my ipod touch 4g wont go to the home screen or let me reset, restore, or put it in factory default mode. it just stays on the apple logo and occasionally goes to a blank screen

  • Rebel T3 keeps shutting off after few seconds of videoing

I purchased a Rebel T3 for my daughter a few months ago.  We are having trouble getting it to video.  It keeps shutting off after a few seconds.  It has a clean class 10 - 32gb card in it.  Help please!  (we have used a couple different cards in it, they all do fine & take excellent photos, just MAJOR problem trying to use the video mode)  I have a T1i & have no trouble with the video on mine.

The manual may state Class 6 as the minimum speed for reliable HD video capture, but that it is most definitely not the fastest card supported by the camera.
The camera is able to take advantage of cards rated for speeds up to 45MB/s which should be at least 2x faster than the fastest Class 10 cards and about 4.5x faster than a Class 10 card operating at minimum spec of 10MB/s.  A Class 10 card is rated for minimum throughput of 10MB/s write speeds. So, it should be between 7-8x faster than a Class 6 card performing at it's specified minimum 6MB/s speed.
So you really need to be looking at the write speed of the SD cards you buy.  But, this assumes that the SD card is the problem which it may not be.

  • HT4528 My IPhone will not turn on, I charged it last night and during a phone call it shut off and will not come back on.

My IPhone will not turn on, I charged it last night and it had a complete charge and during a phone call it just died and will not come back on.

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, it may turn ON itself. If still nothing, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to respond.

  • MacBook Pro Crashes (shuts off completely) w/ no warning & no error message

I have a MacBook Pro that I have been having issues and I am asking for some help. I had been having a problem where the computer has been crashing unexpectedly. Seems to revolve around anything where a lot of memory usage was occuring and/or when I was watching any videos on line. I thought it might have to do with how hot the computer was getting so I put it up, seemed to help a little bit. However on a whim I brought it to best buy (closest Mac Store 2 hrs away), they said it was snow leopard, so they did a uninstall/reinstall, didn't work...then they said it was the hard drive...so I got a new 250 GB hard-drive installed...still having the issue. Infact now seems to be worse, seems to be hotter now than it was) Uninstalled/reinstalled flash...same issue...ran first aid...same problem. It was occuring both before and after the snow leopard install.
    Any help???

To answer the questions, it was happening when it was plugged in, didn't seem to have the same problem when i was on battery, or it just wasn't as quick.
Anyways, I brought it to the Mac Store last night to have a genius look at it. He did everything that you all mention including running iStat. At first he couldn't replicate the problem and therefore couldn't figure it out. But just for discussion sake and since I was looking at iStat app, we starting looking at YouTube while it was plugged in, which is the quickest way for it to crash when I'm at home. As soon as I started doing that, Safari starting using 89%-90% of the available memory and the temp jumped from 150-160 degrees to a whopping 211 degrees. We checked the fans and the fans were working "fine."
After seeing that, the technician tried to install some software updates and it immediatley crashed. After pulling up some scripts he told me that the logic-board is defective. He initially thought what was shutting it down was the thermal protection, however it wasn't being shown in the scripts. However since it shut down so quickly (think of flipping a light switch quick)he thought maybe it wouldn't be shown.
Anyways, I'm having it sent off to get a new logic-board installed. I'm going to keep this open till I get it back and know that was the issue.
Thanks to both of you all for the help.

  • Computer shuts off when trying to play video

just yesterday any video turns off windows. goes black and the restarts news clips , movies, youtube turn it off. worked fine 2days ago.

Is it just in browser? Flash or any video? Tried Youtebe in HTML5/WebM? Wonky hardware acceleration settings? Faulty GPU hardware? Insufficient power from the PSU? Could be any of those, can you test a video in a stand alone player like VLC or Mplayer? Can you test with full acceleration on and off?

  • MacBook Pro shuts off after attempting to boot

So I may have accidentally deleted a file that I thought was a temp connected to another file. I stopped the deletion when I realized it was a large file. I restarted my computer and when it starts to boot, and during the spinning wheel, it shuts off. I do have a recent back up of my system, though I can't start it to do anything.
Can anyone give me some ideas of how I might be able to correct?
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks.

Boot to the Mac OS X Utilities Recovery HD system. At startup hold down the Command + r key to access that system. then select Reinstall Mac OS X. A fresh copy of Lion will be downloaded from the internet and installed on your Mac. Doing this so called Over the Top reinstall should not affect any other files on your Mac other than to replace the file/s you deleted.
You can also use that Mac Utilities boot to restore your system from your Time Machine backup which might be the best thing to do. Have the TM backup drive connected before you start the Recovery boot process.

  • Powermac G4 AGP randomly shuts off

    Hey
    Bit of a long post..
I have a powermacG4 sawtooth which i bought off ebay about 5 or 6 months ago which has worked fine eversince. Before the problems started happening it had a 20GB maxtor harddrive and a ATI rage pro 16mb graphics card. bymyself i added an NEC USB2 card and a Broadcom PCI wireless card. The system was completely fine until i changed the aging rage 128 pro card with a Nvidia geforce 32mb card from my powermac G4 Digital audio (which has been upgraded to a radeon 9000). It seems with this card the computer will randomly shut off, but only when it is not in use. If someone is using it, it will work fine. Sometimes it stays on long enough that it'll go to sleep and then during sleep it'll silently shut off. I have done almost anything that could possibly fix the problem (unplugged atx powersupply, taken out battery, zapped pram, reseated cards, taken out USB2 card (cause i thought that may have been causing the problem) reinstalled tiger on a bigger 120GB drive, replaced the 4 ram sticks with 2 256mb ram sticks, even took a hoover to it and got rid of all the dust.) and now it seems im left with just putting the old card back in which i seriously dont want to do as the old one doesnt support quartz extreme (i really like the RSS screen savers).
    please help!!!!
    thanks

  • Please Help! MBP shutting off when plugged in, now not recognizing MagSafe Adapter

I started seeing this problem a few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro just shut off spontaneously while watching a video full-screen. I turned it back on and the problem went away for a while. But now, the shut-downs happen more frequently. It doesn't matter if the MBP is running off of the battery or if its running off of the AC cord, it will just shut off. No warning. No standard shut-down process, everything just stops and a balck screen shows up. After it shuts off, it takes a few seconds to get it to restart, and when it does, the computer's date and time will be reset to some date in 2000. Very strange, I've had this computer for a year and I know people with the same model that have had no such problems. The battery is at 168 cylces (I use this for school, so it was being used everyday throughout the last two semesters), and the Condition is listed as Normal in the System profiler, so I doubt the problem is with the battery, but I could be wrong. I've seen posts about the RAM/PRAM causing the date/time resets. Nevertheless, the MBP has been running normally on the battery, battery life is still the same length of time as it was when I first got the computer, and runs smoothly. Up until last night, the AC MagSafe Adapter was still working, so I only used that as the power source. Everything was fine, but the MBP shut off once or twice while it was plugged in within the last month or so, but the AC would still have a green light, indicating the computer was still recognizing the power source. Now, I can't get the MagSafe to be rocognized at all. The computer is running on battery only, and I've tried resetting the SMC, but I'm unsure if it worked since the MagSafe is still unrecognized. When its plugged in, the System Profiler says it is not connected and not charging.
I'm running on Mac OS X 10.6.8, a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with a 4GB memory (of which less that half is used). Computer usage is low, so its not like I'm running several programs at once, at most, its two or three at a time, for short periods. My MBP is a 13" aluminum body, doesn't seem to be overheating, has worked fine after long periods of being on and getting hot, I always let it cool down after I feel it getting too warm.
Please help if you can! Thank you!

  • PlayBook keeps shutting off

I love my PlayBook but since the update to 2.0 it shuts off EVERY time I use it and I have to press the start button to reboot...sometimes multiple times...for example today I had my PlayBook plugged into the wall all day...so it is not a battery issue...turned it on...went to check my Facebook and it shut off in all of 30 seconds...most of the time I get more use out of it,  but it will shut off sometime while playing a video, opening an application...or for no apparent reason at all...this only started happening after the 2.0 upgrade....I can't be the only.person this has happened to...is there a fix?

I don't have a Blackberry phone. Based on this experience, I'm not getting one either. I've gone from raving about this tablet, to cursing it every day because it shuts off a few times every day. Version 1 was fine. since he update, I've had nothing but problems. I connected it to the computer which booted it up, I tried a simple thing (taking a picture, that's what the f***ing camera is there for!), It shut off twice, FINALLY took the pic and has shut off again, the black screen where we are at now. Do I need to return this?

  • IPod keeps shutting off on the middle of movies

I have an iPod touch and everytime I get to certain part of by videos the iPod flickers and then completely shuts off. Its not the video files because they work fine on my iPod video. Any ideas why this is happening?

same problem, i tried to re sync them and it only changed the point at which the video stoped at. then i make an appiontment at the apple store "genius bar" and they told me that the problem was the way i was downloading the videos and that something might have gone wrong with the sync. then he gave me a new one and it had the new apps on it =) but then i synced the videos to my new ipod then happened again >:o so DONT bother going to the apple store to trade it in for a new one it will only happen again. i heard if you sync the videos with windows XP it will work fine!

  • Iphone shuts off during sync! Whyt?

I have an issue with Itunes and syncing. I have the latest version of Itunes, however this problem existed even the previous version of Itunes. Anyway, the issue is whenever I try to sync, during the sync the iphone autumatically shuts off and restarts on its own. I am not running 2.0 on the iphone yet. I tried to install which automatically backs up but even then I get an error because the phone shuts off. Is anyone else having these problems? I have reinstalled Itunes and have pulled other USB devices off. I even switched the ports for the USB for the phone. Does anyone have any ideas? I been trying to figure this one out for a while. I know the first issue is the PC part. Just saving up to buy a new Mac. This is my work computer....URGGGHHH!

I have personally witnessed this with a coworker. During the restore process after the upgrade her screen would go completely blank and then after a while she would see an error message on her XP machine saying that the iphone cannot be restored error 1603 (or 1604).
When I plugged her phone into my MacBook and did a restore everything was different. Rather than get a blank screen we saw the apple logo and the circle down at the bottom indicating that it was doing something. We were able to completely restore her phone from my MacBook when she had not been able to restore her phone for 2 days on her XP. There seems to be some incompatibility between something running in Windows, for example in our office PC's we run Norton antivirus, that causes a problem with the device. It must somehow sense that whatever it is trying to do is a threat and is blocking its ability to communicate with iTunes.

  • Macbook Pro Lion shuts off during boot up

I have a 13" MacBook Pro purchased in 2011.  I had the internet lock up on me and hard shut down the computer.  Now when I press the power button, the machine begins to boot up and the apple pops up then the progress bar pops up and the wheels starts to spin, but the machine shuts down about 5 seconds into it.
I have seen this problem on older posts (pre-Lion) and one solution was to hold option during start-up and then boot off th esystem restore disc, but Lion is all internet based, so no disc here.  When I do that, it pops the option to select an internet source, which I do, then the HD symbol pops up with an arrow below it.  When I clikc the arrow (which is the only apparent option) it does the same thing and shhuts off at the same point.
    HELP!

Try booting with command-R. This will boot into the repair parttion. From here you can run disk utility and other programs. You can also do a repair installation of Lion which will almost certainly solve the problem. Doing so shouldn't wipe out your user data, but installing OS updates will be required.
