Dust (?) behind lcd

Hi all,
I recently took a trip with my 23" (plastic bevel) CD and transported it with the screen face down. When I got to my destination, I noticed the lower right portion of the screen contains around 30 dots that appear to be at different depths behind the pixels. Some of them look like dead pixels, but they move when viewed from different angles. I'm guessing that dirt and dust got shifted around and somehow ended up there. Anyone else ever encounted this? Any way to clean it?
thanks!

This should definitely be covered under your warranty. That would drive me nuts. Just give Apple a call and explain the situation. If it is what you think it is (dust behind the display), it was clearly caused by the service that was performed on it. It's not like a cracked display or something like that where they can say you mistreated it. Apple warrants their repairs for 90 days. In general, if you notice a problem after having service, you should bring it to their attention immediately... but... in this case, I think you should be okay.

  • Macbook pro Dust behind LCD- is it a common issue ?

    Hello… I am a little bit embarassed. I haver a very nice and perfect MBP 15,4" Glossy…
It recently developed a haze gray cloud behind the display… It was an imperfection which developed into a nuissance, since i am a graphics designer and I definitely need a good picture and a perfect screen for working. All went well… I got the display changed 3 weeks ago.
Yesterday I realized that the new display has issues too… It seems like real dust particles are now placed behind the LCD screen. I am not working in dusty environments or something like that.
Is is that Apple Screens aren't sealed anymore that way they were before. I used to use a powerbook 17" for 2 years… in the same way and in the same enviroments… and never had any issue with that. What could be the cause for that? Cheaper production? Lacking QA?
And it seems that only MBP's are affected… I have already searched forums everywhere… and until now iI have found only MBP users who complained on that issue.

I've had dust buildup on the bottom of my screen since May of this year but it never really bothered me enough to do anything about it. Then in September I went to the Apple Store and just asked one of the Geniuses there (without my computer) what might be causing it and what I should do. His response was "oh just get a can of compressed air and blow it out." Which I finally did yesterday, and now all the dust (and hair) that was at the bottom of my screen is now all across the middle of my screen.
So I went to the Apple Store (different one) today and asked what could be done, they said they'd replace it but it would cost $300 because I didn't have Apple Care. Then I was told that I couldn't purchase it because my computer was 14 months old.
Now normally I'm fine with paying for problematic things, but the fact that I wouldn't have had as major a problem if I DIDN'T listen to the 1st Genius' advice. And then if Apple actually made it a point of saying that "Applecare cannot be purchased after 1 year" (the only mention is buried in the FAQ, not even the warranty PDF). Or even if they would accept the fact that the screen is moderately defective for allowing the dust to get in in the first place.
But all those things add up to quite possibly the most frustrating experience with Apple I've ever had. Because if they had just told me in the first place (don't know it with air, get applecare earlier) I wouldn't be writing this now.

  • Some Dust behind the LCD

Hi, I seems to be having some dust behind my LCD. I cant clean it. But when I look at it from an angle, I cant see the dust, so I dont think is a dead pixel. Will apple help me clean it up? Or exchange for another screen? Its not like a lot of dust... just like 3 of them.... and its very irritating.
Do you guys think Apple will help me out?

My new MacBook Pro has the same issue... Fortunately it's pretty small (and off to the side), and since everything else is working well, I'm probably going to leave it alone for now...
This is indicative of some sloppy construction though...

  • Macbook Pro 13 (mid-2009) dust behind glass

    Hi there,
I bought my MBP 13 just 2 weeks ago and while cleaning the glass panel today I discovered dust behind the glass. So there is dust between glass and LCD.
Is this normal? Should I be worried? Should I return my MBP? I mean if it is a common problem I might keep it...
    Best wishes.

No I did not personally upgrade the componments. I bought the standard 2.26 13" model with the extra ram and HD space, as a student I got it at a fair price. So it was already assembled when it got to me.

  • Pearl has dust behind the screen

I dont know how it happened, but my pearl has dust behind the screen. Does anyone
know how to remove the screen so I can clean it.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Joe, If the phone is out of warrantee and/or do don't want to go through the enormous hassle of replacing your blackberry there is another alternative. I have done this several times myself but I would recommend that you be mechanically inclined. Although the surgery is very easy some blackberry models have retention clips that need to be pushed aside with a very smal screw driver like one you would buy for repairing sunglasses etc. I do not have a pearl so I am not much help giving you specifics about that particular phone..
Go to ebay and look for cellular phone repair tools. There are dozens of sellers, just look for a Torx kit. Inside the battery compartment you will find four torx screws that you will need to remove. Once they are removed the back of the phone pops off. Depending on your model the phones sometimes come apart in layers (like the 8700). So after the first layer you may need to remove more torx screws to get inside to the screen. Be careful when splitting the phone apart as small pieces will be loose inside like the volume and push to talk buttons. You will need to careful put these back in place when re-assembling the phone. Once the phone is split apart you should easily be able to clean the screen and the inside from dust. Just use an old tooth brush.
Although this whole procedure is not overly difficult for me, it is not for everyone. So please proceed with caution and under your own risk.
On another note this is the same procedure if your phone ever get water damage. I have a neighbor that thought it was hilarious to throw people into the pool during a drunkin haze (thankfully he stopped drinking...). Twice he did it to me with my phone still firmly attached to my waist. After doing a terrific impression of a Marlin trying to shake a fisherman's hook my phone still had water pouring from it and vibrating like crazy. I immediately took out the battery and took the phone completely apart. I then set all the parts EXCEPT THE LCD and the CLEAR PLASTIC WINDOW on a cookie sheet.  All you are trying to do is dry the electronics. Cell phones are all rated for fairly high temperatures  in case you were to leave it in the car on a hot summer afternoon. I then set the oven to preheat at 150 degrees. Once it was preheated I turned the oven off and let sit for a minute with the door cracked. Then I put the cookie sheet into the oven and closed the door. I let it sit until the oven had completely cooled down. Re-assembled the phone and presto it worked just fine until the next time he threw me in. If you want to be completely safe you can put the unassembled phone on your car dash which works as well. So long as there is little humidity and good amount of heat but not above 200 degrees.
    Good luck...

  • Dust behind screen on n96

my phone has been annoying me lately! the OS is fine, but there now seems to be a build up of dust behind my screen! its quite annoying in day light! im blowing my phone from all sides to see if it moves, but nothing, i sent it to the repairs center to get it sorted and to tighten my phone but they just sent it back with an update, ive emailed them to complain with no reply, so i guess i have to do it myself, the phone jus feels really loose when sliding or when its in the normal mode, is this common?
does any one have solutions to getting the dust removed?

It is thought that dust can get in via the ear piece.
May be get a CP-293 to slow the ingress down.

  • Dust behind screens.

I have dust behind screen for the second time, on both of my iMacs. First time it was just before expiration of warranty. Now, warranty is gone and I would need to pay several hundreds of EUR for replacement ? Any advise ?

If you still have the case numbers from your warranty, call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275.  Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations.  Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.  See what they can do for you.
    GOOD LUCK!
P.S.  Apple has a 90 day warranty on their repairs.  Are you pass that?

  • Dust behind screen - price if repaired?

Had my laptop for over 2 years. No applecare. Annoying dust behind screen. I have no Apple Stores near me, so unless you mail it to them I doubt I could have it fixed. But what would the cost be? Anyone know?

    my imac out of warranty.
    thx.

Find the correct model & look at the instructions at iFixit.com
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac
It can be done with a lot of care & the correct tools, but if you are unsure it is best to take it to an Apple store & ask them to do it or you (or an Apple certified service centre). It can be difficult to put it back with less dust than before

  • Dust behind display

I noticed a couple specs of dust behind the display. Any body else have this issue?

Yes, my 1st iPhone had a spec of dust right in the middle of the screen which bothered me when I was reading iBooks, etc.
My replacement also has a spec of dust, although VERY tiny and like 99% unnoticeable and it's at the very bottom edge of the phone. I'm keeping this one because I'm afraid of getting another one that has worst specs of dust.
Where are yours? Do they affect your every day use of the phone?

  • Dv7 Laptop dust behind screen

Since I bought My laptop 11 months ago dust  has been gradually gathering behind the screen underneath the webcam.  Initially this was only noticable while the screen was off (black) so it did not bother me.  .  Recently a couple of pieces of white 'debris' appeared there, one of which is 2mm wide and really impairs use of the laptop.  It is big enough to obscure part of a character on the screen.
At this point I decided to contact HP to request it be fixed under warrenty. As I have seen from others on this site HP claim this is not covered under warrenty.   I am amazed. I can't believe HP will not fix this. They told me this was 'due to negligence'.  I only use the laptop at home in the evenings and keep it in a case while not being used. It has neve been out of the house.  It has not been dropped, wet, used in a dusty environment in the wind (all suggestions from HP's Tech Support. The only way to have stopped this happening would have been to not use it! I do not understand how dirt can get into a sealed unit.
This has to be a manufacturing fault. Furthermore after reading around I find more people with the exact same issue.  Some people have tried to clean this themselves, but have found the screen to be glued in.
Does anyone have any advice?  Would anyone from HP like to comment or actually help me?
I have followed HP complaints procedure but they refused to do anything.  When I said I would like to take it higher I was told there was no one higher to complain to and that their managers are 'not customer facing at all'
This is extremely poor service.  I paid £800 for this laptop and fully expected an obvious manufacturing fault to be rectified.

    I fixed it myself!
First I had some more discusstion with Comet where I bought the laptop.   They initially said they would look at it for £50 and charge me for any parts that were needed, but it was unlikely there would be any.  I pondered this for a while because I was under the impression the screen was glued in.  When I asked them about this they said they would replace the whole screen anyway and stated 'it would cost more than the laptop is worth'
    pathetic.
Rather than spend the money I decided to go it alone as I could not happily use the laptop as it was.  I dismantled it myself.  I removed the screen unit, dismantled the bezel and removed inverter, wireless antenna and webcam. Yes the screen is glued in and yes it is a nightmare to remove.  The clear plastic cover on the screen is glued to both the bezel and the lcd paneI. I cracked the bezel slightly getting it off, but once back together you can hardly see this.  I cleaned the screen before putting it together again and decided rather than glue the panel back in I would like to have the option of taking it apart again to clean it if I need to.  Once reassembled I used invisible tape to fix the clear plastic cover back over the lcd. It is hardly noticable and I can remove it anytime I like without dismantling the laptop again. My laptop is useable again with paying HP any more money!
So how did this occur?  Once I had removed the screen I could see the problem - There is a gap in the glue/seal above the webcam and there is a gap there so dust and small foreign objects can get in. This is a MANUFACTURING / DESIGN DEFECT.  HP must know this and refuse to admit it or to help unless you pay a ridiculous fee.  They rely on the small print in their warrenty to cover themselves. I have no faith in HP as a result of this. What polite words can I use to descibe them and the service I received?
    none.
If you have one of these laptops without this problem, then I recommend you cover the gap between the edge of the screen above the webcam and the bezel with a piece of tape so nothing can get in.

  • Early 2011 MBP 17' - Dust behind glass

    Hey all,
I am normally OCD when keeping my electronics clean, and my MBP is no exception. That's why this is driving me NUTS! I was using my MBP to study at the library as per usual, and when I come home and turn it on, theres a splotch of dust or something that is behind the glass on the screen. It isn't directly on the LCD, as I can tell there is a degree of layering. It is on the opposite side of the glass, and is a total eye sore to look at.... I have no idea how this happened. Any chance Apple will help me on this? Or is there a DIY option that isn't too intrusive?
