Dust in Screen

I just bought my new Macbook from Best Buy on Monday. I have noticed a black spot which I thought was a dead pixel but now I'm sure it is a spec of dust in the screen. Does anyone have any advice on removing the dust as? I know its a small issue but it's been driving me crazy today and I just want it gone. Thanks for any help you guys provide.

Hello,
I got my new second gen iPod touch 2 days ago and yesterday I noticed a strange spot. I thought it was a stuck or dead pixel, run the test and tried to fix the stuck pixel using a web app from the apple site but it is still there. I am now almost certain it's dust. I called the apple people here and they said that if it's just 2 pixels they won't do anything because the display is supposed to work that way and they repair the iPod after a certain number of pixels goes dead. I wonder what they will tell me now that it's dust.
Anybody had the same problem? And did they replace your iPod when they saw it was dust??
Thanks!

  • I have the same case with you an iPad Air in dead pixel or speckle silver dust on screen.  It is been 3 months I bought in Avant Abenson in Greenbelt Makati Philippines. Today I decided to change my screen protector film but the speckle dust on the screen

Speckles dust on the screen and it cannot be removed today when I decided to change the screen protector film and noticed is not my fault it is a factory defect on screen it is either dead pixel or speckle dust on screen they are so many said and experience I have read.  So I need the replacement a new one for that dismayed screen on my iPad Air. I bought this 3 months ago in Avant Abenson at Greenbelt Makati Philippines.  I need the replacement for tomorrow I will go to the store I bought.  I love apple products but they need to replace and make go round to improve some defects and cannot be more escalate with this issue of the many of patronizing your products.  It is sometimes irritating to the eyes and seen dirt on the screen.  Thank you apple customer service to bringing up my complaints and a replacement for tomorrow's to inform the store I bought and advise them here in the Philippines to facilitate in regards to this matter.

I wanted to buy an ipad air to replace my ipad 2 but the one I wanted was (luckily) sold out.
Yesterday I tested the air from a collegue and I noticed the screen was SUBSTANTIALLY less sensitive than the screen of my ipad 2 when using my stylus.
I use Stylus R US especially for I annotate and with the air this did not work well at all... Half of the time there was no contact registered so underying certain parts of the text was a disaster...
Just working with the finger all whent OK... Just fear that another app I use a lot (notes +) will have same problem.
On the Ipad 4 also retina all goes *** smooth as on my ipad 2...
Is this a fault of a specific ipad air series? Or is this normal?? If it is I think this is truelly a huge flaw and I cannot see how not manny people using the ipad for notetaking etc did not notice this...

  • Dust inside Screen, any experiences (and my story)?

I have a late 06 17" MBP that has exhibited dust inside the screen for about 6 months now. I haven't had a good time to take it into the apple store until yesterday (since I knew it would have to be sent off and I'd be without for a week or so). I know its dust and not dead pixels because of the fact that when it first happened, if I closed the screen and walked around with it in my bag, the spots would have moved when I reopened, some would appear farther up the screen, some closer to the bottom, and maybe sometimes 1 or 2 of them would disappear. All in all when I took it in, I had about 20 or so spots that make looking for dust in my Canon 1Ds pics, a frustrating practice at best.
So anyway, I make an appointment and speak to a Genius, he sees the issue clearly, and of course says he'll have to send it off, but tells me that they may not cover this and call me with a quote to replace the screen, but he'll write it up as if its covered and see if they come back with something different.
What I don't get is how this could not be covered. I've owned several laptops, for years, 2 dells, an IBM, a 17" sony vaio, 2 gateways, a toshiba, etc, etc, etc, pretty much all laptops for the past 10 years in my house. NONE of these have ever done this, all obviously in the same environment. How could this not be a defect thats covered under my apple care agreement (expires 1 year from this December)? But I'm getting ahead of myself, as far as I know at this time, it will be covered, but I will keep this thread up to date.
Here is what the Genius wrote down for my order:
    A. Customer Issue(s): Small dark spots at the bottom middle of screen
    B. Steps to Reproduce: Verified at the bar
    C. Troubleshooting: N/A
    D. Time to failure: N/A
    E. Unsuccessful Fixes Attempted: N/A

    G. CS Code Number: N/A
    H. Configuration: MBPRO 17/2.33/2G/160/256VRAM/SD-DL (even though I have 3gb in it, but not from the store that way)

    K. Known Liquid Damage(Y/N): None evident
    L. Other Notes: N/A
I know I've seen other posts about this dust inside screen issue, has anyone ever been denied a repair for this while under warranty?
And one more question, apparently these LCD units are not factory sealed? If this dust came from my environment, and did not originate from within the panel (thus not covered), is there anyway (if it comes back not fixed) that this could be cleaned out? I mean if it gets in there, there has to be a way to get it out right? I hope to write back soon with good news that its all covered, but just in case I might as well start looking at options, (geeze I'm such a pessimist)
I'd love to hear if anyone has any similar stories.
    Thanks!

That seems logical. If there is some small opening in the bottom to allow air to get inbetween the top and a lower layer inside the lcd panel, then it might not be possible to open it up to clean it out. I'm hoping that if its not fixed by apple, that there might be a way to do just that, regardless or risk of breaking the display. If I did break the display, I'd have to buy a new one, and if they don't fix it I'll have to buy a new one, so either way... I might just have to be the first to try such a thing, who knows, might be able to fix it myself...
And as far as being negative, no worries, I'm negative enough for all of us, or should I say scared my favorite laptop ever (and most expensive) won't be fixed...

  • Dead pixel or dust under screen

I purchased ipad mini at staples.ca recently and just realized the screen has small factory defect, either a dead pixel or dust under screen. Seems just passed staples.ca's refund exchange period. what can apple do?

I would bring it to your nearest apple store or AASP and have them look at it.  We can not predict what Apple may or may not do.  good luck.

  • Dust under screen of Qosmio X500

    Hi
I purchased a Qosmio X500 from Saudi Arabia in april last year and Ive brought it to india where I currently reside. Last week while randomly cleaning my screen I noticed few specks of dust within (underneath) the lcd/led panel. This does not hinder my work on the machine, nor do I face any other performance issues. but the very presence of these dust particles beneath the gorgeous 18" screen is becoming an eyesore.
I hardly take the laptop outside or use in harsh or dusty environments. I have an EMEA warranty that's valid upto April 2015 and I was planning to ship the laptop back to Saudi Arabia to get it rectified. Any suggestions on this regard would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Warm Regards
    Dr Hidayath Ansari

    Hi
I've taken my laptop to the authorised service center in Jeddah and they claim that the dust under screen is completely my fault.
The technicians say that it will cost me 1600 Saudi riyals to get the screen replaced even though its under warranty which is really unfortunate becuase the laptop has never be taken out of the office and there is hardly any dust in the room.
Iam a very careful user and in the last two years there is no a single scratch on this device.
Is there any place I can sent a mail to escalate this issue and get it rectified at least under goodwill or even if I have to pay the service charges.

  • Dust behind screens.

I have dust behind screen for the second time, on both of my iMacs. First time it was just before expiration of warranty. Now, warranty is gone and I would need to pay several hundreds of EUR for replacement ? Any advise ?

If you still have the case numbers from your warranty, call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275.  Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations.  Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.  See what they can do for you.
    GOOD LUCK!
P.S.  Apple has a 90 day warranty on their repairs.  Are you pass that?

  • Dust behind screen - price if repaired?

Had my laptop for over 2 years. No applecare. Annoying dust behind screen. I have no Apple Stores near me, so unless you mail it to them I doubt I could have it fixed. But what would the cost be? Anyone know?

Call around to an AASP and ask for an estimate - AASP's Outside of the USA

  • Dv7 Laptop dust behind screen

Since I bought My laptop 11 months ago dust  has been gradually gathering behind the screen underneath the webcam.  Initially this was only noticable while the screen was off (black) so it did not bother me.  .  Recently a couple of pieces of white 'debris' appeared there, one of which is 2mm wide and really impairs use of the laptop.  It is big enough to obscure part of a character on the screen.
At this point I decided to contact HP to request it be fixed under warrenty. As I have seen from others on this site HP claim this is not covered under warrenty.   I am amazed. I can't believe HP will not fix this. They told me this was 'due to negligence'.  I only use the laptop at home in the evenings and keep it in a case while not being used. It has neve been out of the house.  It has not been dropped, wet, used in a dusty environment in the wind (all suggestions from HP's Tech Support. The only way to have stopped this happening would have been to not use it! I do not understand how dirt can get into a sealed unit.
This has to be a manufacturing fault. Furthermore after reading around I find more people with the exact same issue.  Some people have tried to clean this themselves, but have found the screen to be glued in.
Does anyone have any advice?  Would anyone from HP like to comment or actually help me?
I have followed HP complaints procedure but they refused to do anything.  When I said I would like to take it higher I was told there was no one higher to complain to and that their managers are 'not customer facing at all'
This is extremely poor service.  I paid £800 for this laptop and fully expected an obvious manufacturing fault to be rectified.

    I fixed it myself!
First I had some more discusstion with Comet where I bought the laptop.   They initially said they would look at it for £50 and charge me for any parts that were needed, but it was unlikely there would be any.  I pondered this for a while because I was under the impression the screen was glued in.  When I asked them about this they said they would replace the whole screen anyway and stated 'it would cost more than the laptop is worth'
    pathetic.
Rather than spend the money I decided to go it alone as I could not happily use the laptop as it was.  I dismantled it myself.  I removed the screen unit, dismantled the bezel and removed inverter, wireless antenna and webcam. Yes the screen is glued in and yes it is a nightmare to remove.  The clear plastic cover on the screen is glued to both the bezel and the lcd paneI. I cracked the bezel slightly getting it off, but once back together you can hardly see this.  I cleaned the screen before putting it together again and decided rather than glue the panel back in I would like to have the option of taking it apart again to clean it if I need to.  Once reassembled I used invisible tape to fix the clear plastic cover back over the lcd. It is hardly noticable and I can remove it anytime I like without dismantling the laptop again. My laptop is useable again with paying HP any more money!
So how did this occur?  Once I had removed the screen I could see the problem - There is a gap in the glue/seal above the webcam and there is a gap there so dust and small foreign objects can get in. This is a MANUFACTURING / DESIGN DEFECT.  HP must know this and refuse to admit it or to help unless you pay a ridiculous fee.  They rely on the small print in their warrenty to cover themselves. I have no faith in HP as a result of this. What polite words can I use to descibe them and the service I received?
    none.
If you have one of these laptops without this problem, then I recommend you cover the gap between the edge of the screen above the webcam and the bezel with a piece of tape so nothing can get in.
If you are thinking about buying a new HP laptop.....Don't

  • Dust under screen of E71. Do Nokia care points eve...

Ok people bit of a moan really, which I need to get off my chest. I have taken 2 handsets to a Nokia care point and both times I have just walked out p****d off. This time I had an E71. It has a load of dust under the screen in the top left corner and also dust on the camera lens. When you activate the camera there is a black smudge in the top left of the picture. To be honest I noticed the dust after the first month but managed to ignore it. It has now got very bad and realising dust was on the camera lens was the last straw. The phone is under a year old by 3 months. It is in very good condition as I look after my phones, screen protectors etc and has the latest firmware on, version 400.
Now I emailed Nokia asking the best cause of action. I got this response:
"Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.
Sorry to hear that your E71 has a dust inside the screen. As much as we want to help you have a new replacement unit, we are not authorised to do so. We strongly suggest you to send your device on our respected Nokia Care Points. Please be advised that all assessments and repair services on our products are carried out at the Nokia Care Points. A qualified technician will assess your handset and repair it.  The phone will be covered under warranty provided you have your original proof of purchase and all standard warranty conditions are met."
Note the last bit as it will be important. I took the phone today and the bloke told me there would be a £45-50 charge to have the phone cleaned, which to be honest I really don't want as I'm guessing the same will happen again a month later. I've read people having exactly the same issue on this forum. Plus there is no way I'm paying that amount of money. Didn't even ask for proof of purchase by the way.
I then took it to my mobile provider shop where it has now been sent away for free. I thought I may as well. They told me they may replace the handset, which to be honest I hope they do.
Has anyone had this level of 'help' through Nokia care points? I just think it's disgusting. What's the point of these '2 year' warranties that Nokia offer with their phones when all the Nokia care points want is money from you!!
Any way rant over. I just hope my phone doesn't come back in worse condition than what I sent it off in, since there was not a scratch on it, just a lot of dust :-/
    Ben

send it to a nokia care centre dont attempt yourself it will void warranty if this shop is an official nokia store they will send it an official nokia centre
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Dust under screen

I've had My iPod for about 3 months. I've been using a case that I bought seperately (Belkin Black leather flip case). It was an excellent case, until my friend's friend decided to test something out on MY ipod, rather than my friend's, mishandled it, and scratched the faceplate to oblivion with key inside parts on the inside of the case (I got the scratches off from the screen, tho).
I eventually decided that the case I was using was to bulky because of the belt clip, so I started to use the included case. However, the linin, is a little, dusty, you might say, and since theres no seal between the metal back and the front bezel, dust got in. it started out small, but now it's getting pretty irritating.
Is there a way to pop off the front bezel so I can clean the inside? I know that Apple used to (don't know if still does) offer a DIY battery replacement, and to do that, you'd have to open the case. I've attempted to, but I didn't want to break the clip's inside, so I didn't put in much strength.
So again, regardless of possible void warranty, is there a way to open the case up without breaking it? And how would I go about doing it safely?

not the bezel. The ipod consists of an acrylicshell connecting to the chrome backside. The goal is to seperate these two parts and for that you need something very thin but rigid to carefully pry and prode bettween the two halfs untill it cleanly snaps apart.
Tricky business but it can be done. For the record, I don't recommend it.

  • Dust behind screen on n96

my phone has been annoying me lately! the OS is fine, but there now seems to be a build up of dust behind my screen! its quite annoying in day light! im blowing my phone from all sides to see if it moves, but nothing, i sent it to the repairs center to get it sorted and to tighten my phone but they just sent it back with an update, ive emailed them to complain with no reply, so i guess i have to do it myself, the phone jus feels really loose when sliding or when its in the normal mode, is this common?
does any one have solutions to getting the dust removed?

It is thought that dust can get in via the ear piece.
May be get a CP-293 to slow the ingress down.

  • Cost to have dust inside screen cleaned?

I hate making phone calls so was wondering if anyone else knew the cost to have Apple clean dust that may have gotten trapped inside the LCD screen. I have an annoying dust dot that is in the middle of the screen and I'd like them to get rid of it, but that would involve removing and then putting the screen back on.
Any idea on how much that would cost? My macbook is 2 years old and no warranty.

Thanks I guess I figured that. It's just frustrating no apple stores in my city and I don't drive so can't get to other apple stores. I believe you can mail them in for repair but that's a whole other nuisance and they'd probably charge you just to send it. I wish there was an apple store near me I could go to!

  • Spec of dust inside screen?

Hello folks, quick question. Well first, let me explain!
I was cleaning my Macbook 13 inch unibody LCD screen, as I do every night, and I noticed a.. dot on it. The LCD was off, so I knew it wasn't the pixels. I ran my finger over the dot, and perfectly smooth which would be odd if it was a scratch. So I am left to believe it is behind the glass and I assume it's dust. I bought my Macbook late december.. any idea what Apple will do? I already made an appointment at the genius bar.
    Thanks in advance!

Went to the bar today, they replaced my screen, free of charge!

    HI,
my phone will only charge from the mains if i lay it on its side and wiggle the power connector about??!!!
I also seem to have dust and dirt inside the top left hand corner of the screen
ans if im browsing the net,or sending a text message the phone will just literally power off..then come back on after approx 5 secs..
    any ideas???
its never been dropped and is only about 6 months old????!!
    Help guys

Dust inside is only remedied by taking the handset into your local nokia repair centre ,as your handset does not support express covers. So if you did try to remove the cover yourself the 2ry limited warranty would become invalid.
Regarding the issue of charging it could either be your charger or handset. If you have a spare charger then try that. It could also could be because the connecters on the handset have dirt/dust etc inside them.
Again the repair centre would clean these and check the connections out too.
