Dust inside back camera lens

Just noticed two specs of dust inside my wife's iPhone 4, she bought it in July 2010.
The cut the long story short, photo's from that phone always looked "soft" (like the lens was dirty) when compared to the photos from my iPhone 4.
Yesterday, however, I had to take some indoors pictures with my wife's phone as mine was out of available storage. Most of the photos and videos looked rubbish: huge halos around light sources, grain, weird colours, very soft (inferior even compared to a friend's 3GS). So I knew something was wrong, and then I noticed two specs of dust inside the camera lens, right in the middle. The phone is otherwise immaculate apart from a tiny screen scratch. I guess the dust was there from day 1, as photos never looked right.
Is this supposed to happen over time? Is the lens unit sealed? Is Apple likely to fix it under warranty (the phone is 8 months old)?
Cheers,
GB

The phone comes with a one-year warranty. Make an appointment at an Apple store. If your phone is deemed defective, it will be replaced on the spot.

  • Dust under back camera window. Silent support.

    Hello,
After a few weeks of using Z3 compact I noticed that the back cover is not well attached and there's some dust under the back camera window.
I sent the device to the service, and they say this is not covered by the warranty and I have to pay 225 €:
    Electrical repair  133.20 EUR
    Handling fee  51.60 EUR
    Shipping  22.34 EUR
    Mechanical repair  18.00 EUR
    Total cost  225.14 EUR
I've already sent 3 messages asking for the clarifications with no response and also contacted via the chat service and the guy just terminated the session after saying "the phone is in the service and I cannot tell anything else".
What do you think I can do now? I'm going to contact all possible consumer support organizations and use some personal relations to contact the higher level of the service team.

  • Inside of camera lens dirty

Does the apple story clean the inside of the sapphire lens on the iphone 5 rear camera? Also, it seems like theres a loose piece on my front camera, almost like a cresent moon shape that is close to covering that camera. Laslty, you can hear a faint noise when shaking the phone, like something's broken or loose on the inside (both my parent's phones dont make the same noise...
    Any ideas??

The dust is not in any case, it's on the inside of the sapphire lens of the phone itself... Will the apple store fix this?

  • Dust inside 4s camera

Wifes new 4s has a large dust spot inside lens. Has anyone else had this problem? Will Apple exchange? I'm making an appointment for service and am curious as to my options as this is our first iphone

Typically you can set up an appointment with the genius bar. Instead of having them to replace the unit, they can remove the back glass panel and clean out the dust and put the backing back and return it back to you without any replacements. That happened to me on my iphone 4, all they did was removed the backing and cleaned out the dust.

  • Why am I seeing dust inside my iPhone 5S camera lens?

I don't have a case for my iPhone 5S and I do carry it in my jeans pocket. I am also not a messy person. So today I noticed something -- there's clearly some dust inside the camera lens (the one in the back.) When I shake the phone it rattles around. How in the world can it get there? And is there anything I can do to get it out?

Not unheard of, look to your right under "More Like This" for related discussions.-->
You have a 1 year warranty.  Take it in and let Apple look at it.  Back it up first.

  • Is there dust inside camera lens of iPhone 5?

I bought my new iPhone 5 on 28th of September from a local Telco.
Today I noticed inside the camera lens there is dust.
    I'm very disappointed

I'm seeing the same thing on my iPhone 5. I just noticed it today so I don't know how long it's been there (got mine on launch day). Here are some photots I took with my iPad (only other camera I had). I have not noticed anything on any of the photos I've taken with the iPhone but, then again, I haven't done any extensive testing either.
Not sure what I'll do about it (closest Apple Store is 2 hours away and, again, haven't noticed anything on the photos I've taken).

  • How to clean c5-00 camera lens inside and out

pls help my phone is kinda cloudy when taking pictures... how to clean it properly and clening agents which is found on local market. tnx

    Hi phoenixzurc,
If there is dust under the camera lens, please take the device to Nokia Care point and ask if they can clean it. Trying to clean it yourself might void the warranty of the device and potentially damage it. If there is dust on the lens, you can try to clean it with dry cloth.
    Hope this helped!

  • Dust inside iphone 5 camera with no warranty

What am I supposed to do?
Never take any photo with my phone?!!
Or spend hundreds of dollars to fix the camera? (I probably could buy a new phone with that much money!!)
I found the dust after my warranty expired, and I was told apple won't help me to fix it.
I never had any problem with my iphone4, which is a great product by Jobs. The iphone5 is very disappointing. You have to use a case to protect it from scratches. Many people found dust inside their cameras, luckily some found that problem during their warranty. I couldn't believe apple would deliver a product with so many problems to us, at least Jobs wouldn't.

During that one year period, I will assume the dust accumulated while being in your pocket.
I had a iphone since the 3GS and now a 5S and had a few dust in my camera lenses, but nothing that would impede me from taking good quality pictures.

  • My iPhone 5 died/broken lock button/dust in camera lens

My iPhone died last night.  Tried plugging it in to turn it on, doesn't work.  My lock button also doesn't work, so I can't try resetting it.  I also have so much dust in my camera lens, that it won't focus and I can't take clear picutres.  I brought it to the Apple store with all these problems, and they're trying to charge me $269 for all this damage that's the cause a faulty product, not myself.  They can't replace the camera, they have to replace the entire phone.  What do I do?

It's a common problem with the 4S, but not with the 5. Not that that's relevant. Hardware wears out. "Normal wear and tear" is not a defect. The warranty is 1 year, and you had an option to extend it to 2 years, which you apparently did not take. The lock button on my 4S stopped working 22 months after I bought it. I also bought AppleCare+, so I took it to an Apple store and they replaced the phone.
There are independent service shops that can replace the switch. That's one option. The other is to take it to an Apple store and if it is not long out of warranty and you are not belligerent they may replace the phone for you anyway.

  • Nokia N97 cover defect: Scratched the back camera ...

    Hello everyone,
Last weekend, as I opened the back camera lens cover, I saw one straight line scratch
I was cursing myself, even though I keep my phone in a pouch. But today as I was scrolling through HOFO, I came accross a thread where people we complaining about similiar issues.
I think this is a defective design problem on N97s, if there are some dust particles under the screen then they will scratch the screen when you slide the cover to open or close it.
Will nokia take resposiblility to fix these screens, I am really **bleep** off. I have been a Nokia fan from last 7 years.
This is what we get after spending $650 USD to buy a hyped flagship device.
Could anyone tell me who to complain and how get it fixed.

well aftear reading the hofo i just smacked a screen protector in the lens, i got it from the "home button" of some iphone's screen protectors I had. as soon as I slided the cover close/open the lens (or the screen protector) got scratched so Im 100% sure that the sliding cover will scratch the lens. Not that fast, since the screen protector adds some bulk on the surface. So if you are going to do this make sure that the screen protector doesnt invade the flash zone or you will get some flashes over the picture and also make sure that it doesnt get under the lens frame I think the cover has a slider under the frame.
So finally I feel better, and the picture quality doesnt change anything even when using the flash!

  • Dirt under my iPhone 5 camera lens

Recently, I found tiny specks of dirt under my back camera lens. Eventhough, it is not a problem to the camera at the moment due to the focus. I think that in the long run it will eventually appear visually visible on my pictures taken with my iPhone 5. Therefore, can anyone tell me how to fix it. Also, It seems that there is an opening somewhere that the dirt got into, so I wonder if apple will replace it cause I think that it's likely to be a defect.

They will fix it most likely for free. Technically dirt cannot get inside unless it was during the manufacturing process. Take it to the nearest store but call them first to set up an appt.

  • Nokia n95 8gb moisture in camera lens - HELP

Hi, I have Nokia n95 8gb and while have been in a shower I have left it in the bathroom and now my lenses are moistured/water from inside of camera/lens. How can I fix/dry this?
    PLEASEEE HELP ME.

Many people take the phone into the bathroom whilst taking a bath or shower not realising this actually harms your phone!
Steam has entered the phone and turned to condensation and this is never good for an electrical product.
This will probably cause you many problems sooner or later, but for now remove the battery as having the battery in the phone whilst it is still wet is damaging your phone with current from the battery surging through all those components joint together inside with water.
Then put the phone in a warm dry place, where you have your boiler for your home as an example, and leave it there for a few days.
This should dry out any liquid there is inside the phone but only time will tell of the amount of damage has occured.
My posts are my opinion and in no way the direct views of Nokia.
If my posts are helpful, please give me some KUDOS using the green star on the left.

  • Fix for dust inside camera lens

My camera lens continues to accrue dust on the inside of the phone. This is an obvious design flaw of the phone as this is likely coming in through the back microphone hole.
I have read multiple posts on this issue and seen instructions on how to clean it off. What I am hoping is that there is a fix to seal the lens area so once it is cleaned, no further dust can enter. I would also like to keep the microphone active so noise cancellation continues to work as intended.

  • Large dust particle inside my iPhone 5 camera lens

I have a couple of large dust particles inside my iPhone 5 camera lens. How do I get rid of them?

If it's actually inside the lens, you can't.  Bring your phone while it''s still under warranty to Apple for evaluation.

  • Dust inside my Nokia lumia 820 camera

Dusts accumulate inside my camera (both back and front). What can I do to remove them and to prevent it from happening again? My camera has become useless now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Get it checked by one of Microsoft's Care points, they can professionally dismantle it, clean out the dust and reassemble it - hopefully better sealed than it is now. To do anything else might risk making the situation worse.
