Dust trapped behind screen.

I've had my computer for a few days.. and I love it, but I suddenly became very annoyed after discovering a speck of dust stuck behind my screen! It is minute and I'm sure some of you will find this petty, but to me, this is incredibly irritating as I always seem to focus on it! It was right at the bottom originally, and i tried to blow it out, but that only made it move up about a couple of centimetres, this is how I know it's not a dead/stuck pixel. I expect I'll be told that the only way of ridding it is to take the G5 apart.. is this the case? Or is there another solution? I've tried gently rubbing the area (as I read in another post) in hope that it might become loose and fall down, but this did not succeed. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you.

This is an odd problem indeed. Are you sure that the dust is actually BEHIND the display? I would think that it would be pretty difficult to get it back there hehe.
The dust could actually be embedded in your display's protective screen coating (all LCDs have this to protect the otherwise exposed pixels). If it was embedded in the coating, then you have most likely made the problem worse by rubbing it with your finger, as this would have embedded the dust in further.
Either way, I would call AppleCare and see if you can arrange to have it inspected.

  • Dust behind screens.

I have dust behind screen for the second time, on both of my iMacs. First time it was just before expiration of warranty. Now, warranty is gone and I would need to pay several hundreds of EUR for replacement ? Any advise ?

If you still have the case numbers from your warranty, call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275.  Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations.  Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.  See what they can do for you.
    GOOD LUCK!
P.S.  Apple has a 90 day warranty on their repairs.  Are you pass that?

  • Dust behind screen - price if repaired?

Had my laptop for over 2 years. No applecare. Annoying dust behind screen. I have no Apple Stores near me, so unless you mail it to them I doubt I could have it fixed. But what would the cost be? Anyone know?

  • Dust trapped between the screen

I have some dust trapped in my screen, so I can't actually clean it off. It's annoying because it's always there. Is there anything I can do about this? Also, is there any way I can get a glossy screen installed?

Sorry for the late update. They replaced the screen with a better one, but now I see it has 2 dead pixels, and a new dust spot appeared recently. Also, depending on which desktop picture I have set, the very left line of pixels sometimes looks lighter than the rest of the wallpaper.
Service was great, but these screens really aren't very good. I wish they would switch back to Samsung or LG for their LCDs instead of using CHUNGHWA.

  • Dust on the screen

Brand new phone 1 week old and somehow dust has gotten behind the plastic and onto the screen. How do i clean it and how to i stop dust from getting behind the screen. The phone spends the day in my pocket and atm if its light out all i can see is dust on the screen.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

it happens with every phone... what you can do is that, don't remove the plastic which is there on the screen.if you have already removed it then get your phone an another one. remove the cover and wipe the back portion of the cover(there must not be anything on the screen)with some soft cloth.

  • Did any buy a 4th generation iPad with speck(s) of dust under the screen?

Purchased my first iPad at a local apple store on launch day, noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Had it exchanged and then found another speck of dust under the screen once again. Went back and wanted another exchange, apple store employees were nice enough to allow me to open two additional iPad. I did a thorough check of each and noticed dust under the screen on both. Wasn't allowed to open anymore iPads so, I was given the option to exchange mine or return it. I decided to keep mine as there was only one speck of dust under the screen. Has this happened to anyone so far?

I wanted to upgrade to the iPad 4th generation as well.  I have been through four (4) of them.  ALL FOUR (4) had readily visible dust under the glass.  Three were from the Apple store here in Santa Barbara, and one was from the Apple store in Santa Monica.....so not all from the exact same shipment, although possible all came from the same batch at the factory.
There is fine white dust all offer the interior packaging materials when you open these up....which is not a problem....but then there is always a speck or two of white dust UNDER the glass.  This is totally unacceptable for a high-end product that costs $700+ from accompany that goes on and on about how exceptionally high their quality control standards are.
The Apple store staff have been fantastic to deal with throughout this.  It is proof Apple stands behind their products and claims of high quality.  However, the fact that four out of four brand new iPads had the same defect (immediately seen by two techs at the Apple Store in every case) indicates the standards are sliding...at least at the factory.
The fact that I received four out of four iPads with this defect doesn't mean I am unlucky....it likely indicates that thousands of these shipped to North America...or at least California....have this defect.  I just noticed it.
And anyone who says "that's just how all iPads are" is wrong.  I am typing this post on my iPad Generation 3 that came out of the box with no dust under the glass.
This is a major quality control issue with the new iPad 4 and Apple needs to address it.

  • I have the same case with you an iPad Air in dead pixel or speckle silver dust on screen.  It is been 3 months I bought in Avant Abenson in Greenbelt Makati Philippines. Today I decided to change my screen protector film but the speckle dust on the screen

Speckles dust on the screen and it cannot be removed today when I decided to change the screen protector film and noticed is not my fault it is a factory defect on screen it is either dead pixel or speckle dust on screen they are so many said and experience I have read.  So I need the replacement a new one for that dismayed screen on my iPad Air. I bought this 3 months ago in Avant Abenson at Greenbelt Makati Philippines.  I need the replacement for tomorrow I will go to the store I bought.  I love apple products but they need to replace and make go round to improve some defects and cannot be more escalate with this issue of the many of patronizing your products.  It is sometimes irritating to the eyes and seen dirt on the screen.  Thank you apple customer service to bringing up my complaints and a replacement for tomorrow's to inform the store I bought and advise them here in the Philippines to facilitate in regards to this matter.

I wanted to buy an ipad air to replace my ipad 2 but the one I wanted was (luckily) sold out.
Yesterday I tested the air from a collegue and I noticed the screen was SUBSTANTIALLY less sensitive than the screen of my ipad 2 when using my stylus.
I use Stylus R US especially for I annotate and with the air this did not work well at all... Half of the time there was no contact registered so underying certain parts of the text was a disaster...
Just working with the finger all whent OK... Just fear that another app I use a lot (notes +) will have same problem.
On the Ipad 4 also retina all goes *** smooth as on my ipad 2...
Is this a fault of a specific ipad air series? Or is this normal?? If it is I think this is truelly a huge flaw and I cannot see how not manny people using the ipad for notetaking etc did not notice this...

  • There is dust in my screen ipad2 but have more problem to claim

I have ipad2 which have dust in my screen, but i have a dent on my corner side the right one. I still can claim it or not? The dust is very annoying :(

Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. Normally with dust under the screen, Apple will replace the iPad. With the dent, it's hard to say what Apple will say.

  • Dust under the screen....

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?
    Thanks

Roaminggnome is right, it's a case by case basis, but as long as you have not abused the phone, it's more than likely you can get a replacement, but don't quote me on that. They will replace the phone if they decide to--they don't do cosmetic work. So, what I'm saying simply is--maybe, maybe not--make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store to see. If they will, they'll give you another iPhone.

  • Dust Under the Screen and Case Cracks

    Hey guys,
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 3G S, and love the thing to pieces. I've had it for 8 months now, however over the past few weeks, I have become slightly disappointed with it.
Firstly, a small crack appeared above the 'Silent On/Off' switch, which I don't understand how it appeared as the phone has never been dropped or bumped. It's only very tiny, but I'm a perfectionist and not particularly happy about the fact it has appeared by itself. I treat my phone like royalty.
Then today, I realised a tiny white fleck on the screen when running an app. At first, I thought it might have been a dead pixel, but it turns out that it's a fleck of dust under the screen. How did it get there?! And it's not the only fleck either. When I turned the screen off, there appears to be at least 3 or 4 tiny flecks. They aren't obtrusive to the screen, but annoy me as, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist.
Am I still within warranty at 8 months? And if I am, would Apple replace my iPhone if I was to return it? It was purchased from O2, so would I return it to them, or Apple directly?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally took my device to the Apple Store today. Due to having dust beneath the screen, as well as the crack, it meant they replaced the whole unit, rather than just the screen, which they would have done in the event of just dust.
If anyone else has any issues, I'd highly recommend taking it to a Genius Bar. The staff were so helpful, and no questions were asked really.
    Well done Apple

If another person or company serviced your iPad, your warranty has been voided.  Apple will do an out-of-warranty exchange.  Have you contacted the original service provider, and complained?
