  • Dust Under the Screen and Case Cracks

    Hey guys,
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 3G S, and love the thing to pieces. I've had it for 8 months now, however over the past few weeks, I have become slightly disappointed with it.
Firstly, a small crack appeared above the 'Silent On/Off' switch, which I don't understand how it appeared as the phone has never been dropped or bumped. It's only very tiny, but I'm a perfectionist and not particularly happy about the fact it has appeared by itself. I treat my phone like royalty.
Then today, I realised a tiny white fleck on the screen when running an app. At first, I thought it might have been a dead pixel, but it turns out that it's a fleck of dust under the screen. How did it get there?! And it's not the only fleck either. When I turned the screen off, there appears to be at least 3 or 4 tiny flecks. They aren't obtrusive to the screen, but annoy me as, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist.
Am I still within warranty at 8 months? And if I am, would Apple replace my iPhone if I was to return it? It was purchased from O2, so would I return it to them, or Apple directly?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally took my device to the Apple Store today. Due to having dust beneath the screen, as well as the crack, it meant they replaced the whole unit, rather than just the screen, which they would have done in the event of just dust.
If anyone else has any issues, I'd highly recommend taking it to a Genius Bar. The staff were so helpful, and no questions were asked really.
    Well done Apple

  • Dust under Iphone Screen what do I do?

I currently have a 18gb i phone 3gs and well there is dust particles under the screen and they are not well... making the phone obsolete but they are really annoying and driving me insane I do have a warranty on the phone cause I sent it back like 3 months ago but I was wondering what can be done about this... thanks for the help guys and gals!
By the way im like 300 miles from a apple store

they told me was to take it to a Apple Store so they can blow it out with compressed air
Huh? The screen and digitizer are glued together at the factory. There is absolutely no way an Apple store could do this even if they wanted to. The will replace your phone if determined to be defective.

  • Dust under iPhone screen

I just bought my iPhone yesterday, and I noticed there there is a spec of dust about 1-2 pixels big underneath the glass surface of my screen. It's right in the middle of it, so it is pretty obvious to see.
I know that it is dust, and not simply a dead, or "stuck" pixel. Does anybody know what Apple's Replacement policy on this is? My guess would be that it would fall under the "workmanship" phrase in the warranty.

Dust is always going to be an issue when you're dealing with a screen like the one used in the iPhone. I've been using PDAs for years now, and I can recall that dust has been an issue with almost every model I've used in the past. The worst part about the dust is the fact that it cannot be easily removed (the device must be partially diassembled), and it does draw one's eye. I'd take it back, ask the Apple Store (very nicely), maybe with other potential iPhone buyers present, to replace the device with one that doesn't have the dust issue.
To those that do not have a dust issue, a warning: keep the device out of your pockets if you don't want dust. No matter how well Apple has designed the iPhone, if you expose the device to enough dust, some of it is going to get inside the case, and then migrate to the area between the lcd and the glass touch area. I assume that such a gap exists in the iPhone, but, if it doesn't, then dust may be a limited issue with this otherwise superb device.

  • Dust under the screen of my BB Curve 9360

I have dust under the screen and it's pretty noticeable. I have no idea how it got there, only about 1-2 months I've had this phone. What can I do?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unless you're willing to break your warranty, you can disassemble the casing for your berry and clean out the underside of the screen.
YOu can also try taking it to where you got the berry and ask them to clean it for you so that you won't be breaking the warranty.
Do you put your Blackberry in a dusty environment?
You should invest in a pouch or a holster to protect your BB from dust.

  • Dust under glass screen - new iPad

I bought the new iPad from Walmart about three weeks ago. I have just now noticed a small speck of dust under my screen and is really bugging my OCD. Will Apple replace this iPad at an Apple Store as long as it is still under the One Year warranty?

Yes they will most certainly replace it.

Good day, a month ago I bought Iphone 5 in Russia, phone was activated 4 days ago, but today I noticed a small particles of dust under the screen. Is it a warranty case , and can I exchange my phone ?

MTS and Beeline provide all service for the iPhone in Russia. Take your phone to them and see. They will have to evaluate it.

  • Spec of dust under iPhone 3GS screen

Ok, so in the past week or so, I've noticed a small spec of dust UNDER the screen of my iPhone 3GS.
It's pretty visible when the screen is dark, and a little irritating when watching a movie, etc on it.
Now, I've called the Apple store, and they said that they would replace the handset, as it's under warranty. I have 3 months left on my warranty, and wouldn't want any more dust particles getting under the screen after my warranty has ended, so I'd rather get the issue sorted out now.
I forgot to ask on the phone (I will give them another call tomorrow), but what condition would the replaced phone come in? Would it be brand new? I don't want to have a second hand, or used iPhone, even if it was in perfect condition.
    Thanks,
    David.

Yes - as already provided, there will be no way for you to tell the difference between a new iPhone and a refurbished iPhone.
Per the written warranty, an exchange under warranty will be a new or refurbished iPhone. An exchange under warranty is called a service unit regardless if new or refurbished and is provided in a plain unsealed box which includes the iPhone only.

  • IPhone - Dust under the screen; Anyone else?

After just a few hours in my pocket, I have my first speck of dust under the screen. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
After some inspection, I noticed there is a very small gap between the metal case and the headphone jack which is especially visible when the backlight is on (I can see light from the backlight).

    Hey Luc Lux,
Do you have a screen protector on the iPhone? If you do try removing it and cleaning the screen.
If there isn't anything covering the screen, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Dust under the screen....

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?
    Thanks

Roaminggnome is right, it's a case by case basis, but as long as you have not abused the phone, it's more than likely you can get a replacement, but don't quote me on that. They will replace the phone if they decide to--they don't do cosmetic work. So, what I'm saying simply is--maybe, maybe not--make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store to see. If they will, they'll give you another iPhone.

    hello,
I bought 3 weeks ago a BlackBerry Curve 9320 but there is dust that has gottenunder in the screen, there is more and more with time and it bothers me. My phone did not fall and I find thatit is abnormal that dust gets under the screen if the telephne have not suffered from shock.
I am looking for a repair solution.
    Thank you for your help
    cordially

Same problem on my 9320 Blackberry Device (left side, USB plug). It's very annoying, moreover there were no bump that could cause the problem, and there are more and more dust under the screen. Is there anything I can do ? Or can I send it to repairment ?
    Thank you for answering

I have an iphone 5. I have no idea of the ios version in it. Recently i broke my iphone screen and its showing up nothing. it was never synced to itunes or to any pc. When i tried to connect iphone to itunes in my pc it was asking for passcode which i had forgotten ages ago. Suggest me the possible ways to recover my iphone.

Since the screen doesn't work, it will be challenging to get it working, even thru iTunes. You will need to ask yourself if you want to invest more money in it or get a new one, especially since the contents will be lost since you don't know the passcode. Apple will gladly replace the screen for a cost that represents a significant portion of the price of a new. Once the screen is done, you may or may not be eligible for the free iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program.
Or, if you decide to salvage it and are strong of heart and firm of hand, you can replace the screen yourself for less. See here and note they carry kits with all needed tools and parts.

  • Did any buy a 4th generation iPad with speck(s) of dust under the screen?

Purchased my first iPad at a local apple store on launch day, noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Had it exchanged and then found another speck of dust under the screen once again. Went back and wanted another exchange, apple store employees were nice enough to allow me to open two additional iPad. I did a thorough check of each and noticed dust under the screen on both. Wasn't allowed to open anymore iPads so, I was given the option to exchange mine or return it. I decided to keep mine as there was only one speck of dust under the screen. Has this happened to anyone so far?

I wanted to upgrade to the iPad 4th generation as well.  I have been through four (4) of them.  ALL FOUR (4) had readily visible dust under the glass.  Three were from the Apple store here in Santa Barbara, and one was from the Apple store in Santa Monica.....so not all from the exact same shipment, although possible all came from the same batch at the factory.
There is fine white dust all offer the interior packaging materials when you open these up....which is not a problem....but then there is always a speck or two of white dust UNDER the glass.  This is totally unacceptable for a high-end product that costs $700+ from accompany that goes on and on about how exceptionally high their quality control standards are.
The Apple store staff have been fantastic to deal with throughout this.  It is proof Apple stands behind their products and claims of high quality.  However, the fact that four out of four brand new iPads had the same defect (immediately seen by two techs at the Apple Store in every case) indicates the standards are sliding...at least at the factory.
The fact that I received four out of four iPads with this defect doesn't mean I am unlucky....it likely indicates that thousands of these shipped to North America...or at least California....have this defect.  I just noticed it.
And anyone who says "that's just how all iPads are" is wrong.  I am typing this post on my iPad Generation 3 that came out of the box with no dust under the glass.
This is a major quality control issue with the new iPad 4 and Apple needs to address it.

  • Can I get my iPad cleaned from dust under the screen at the Apple Store?

I have an iPad that I have purchased early last year. My warranty on the iPad is up and I have realized there is dust under the screen. There is a newly built Apple Store at a mall in my city. I am wondering if I could visit the store and request a technician to open my iPad and clean the screen, if it's possible they can do that. If I can, will there be a fee? If not, what other things can I do?

No, they will not be able to clean it at the store. They will likely only be able to offer a replacement at a substantial cost (if that). Based on what you have described, unless you are far wealthier than me, you get to live with it.
