Dutch Denim update (country variant) gives 8018830...

The Denim update (country variant) finally arrived for the 630 in the Netherlands, a couple of days ago. But I can't seem to get this update installed as it shows a 8018830f error when preparing the installation, after a succesful download.
Now I know of three persons (two family members and a friend) that have this particular phone and have the same issue when trying to update. I also asked this question on a Dutch board and others seem to get this error with their phones too. So far, no one could come up with a solution. All these phones had more than enough internal storage and none of them ever used the Preview For Developers app.
It would be crazy that we have to work our way around with a hard reset or by using the Nokia Recovery Tool. Something must be wrong with that update package since all of us have that same problem.
Do you have any other suggestions concerning this problem?

In the Software Recovery Tool, what is your 7-letter code (Product Code: 059…)? No Windows computer or USB: The same code is printed on your phone. That code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. Then, hopefully a Microsoft employee is able to check what is up with that variant.

  • Full of features: Lumia Denim Update

    Hey,
Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to selected devices and markets, and will continue to rollout in several waves. A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8.1, is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals.
Note: In anticipation of the Lumia Denim Update, make sure you have Lumia Cyan installed. More details on that, here.
You can find the latest availability details & update instructions from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/software-update/wp8-software-update
Exact content of the update depends on the device model - you can find the details for your device from your local Microsoft.com support pages. The pages for each country/device will be updated as the rollout proceeds.
Below you can find a summary of the key features included in the Denim update (source: http://lumiaconversations.microsoft.com/2014/09/04/lumia-denim-update):
    Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1:
Cortana – The most personal digital assistant on the market will now be available in the UK and China as a Beta. India, Canada and Australia will have access to Cortana as a public Alpha. For US residents, Cortana now includes an improved natural language, car kit integration via Bluetooth for contacts, snooze reminders and calendar improvements.
Live folders – If you prefer to keep your apps or games organised, you can now put them into folders. Simply press, hold and drag an app over another to create a new folder on the Start screen. Each folder can be renamed by tapping on the text field above the open folder.
Apps Corner – Create a customised Start screen, where only specific apps or games are accessible. This could be particularly useful in the workplace if you’re issuing Windows Phones to employees.
SMS merge and forwarding – Select individual text messages to either delete them out of a messaging thread, or to copy and past them into a new message in order to forward them.
Snooze Times – It’s now possible to customise the snooze time within the Alarm app.
Consumer VPN – Maintain privacy and security when using data while connected to public Wi-Fi hotspots or even with your home Wi-Fi.
Mobile Web Site improvements in IE – Connect and browse even faster with improved downloading speeds on mobile websites.
Store Live Tile (US only) – The Store Live Tile displays featured apps and games that are the most popular in the Store, or most relevant for you.
    Unique Lumia experiences:
The Lumia Denim Update provides features that are exclusive to Lumia. We always strive to bring new features to everyone, but some of which are hardware dependent and are only announced for the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, Lumia 1520 and Lumia 830, such as the Lumia Camera.
Lumia Camera – Replacing Nokia Camera, Lumia Camera is faster and more intuitive than before to make the best camera experience, even better.
Speed – Pocket to capture speeds are superfast, and it only takes milliseconds going from shot to shot.
Moment Capture – A long press of the camera button starts 4K-quality* video recording at 24 FPS. With each frame at 8.3 megapixels, you can save individual frames as high quality still images.
Rich Capture – Auto HDR and Dynamic Flash are now welcomed into the already-impressive feature set. Shoot first and adjust the camera settings later for that perfect photo.
Improved image processing algorithms – Updated to give you clearer photos, even in lowlight.
“Hey Cortana” Voice Activation** – Gone are the days of pressing the microphone button to wake-up Cortana. Simply say “Hey Cortana” while the phone is idle and Cortana will activate. This is possible thanks to the SensorCore technology.
Glance Screen – Compatible Lumia devices can now show more at a glance with Bing Weather, or Bing Health & Fitness data, in addition to time and date, notifications and application data.
*Due to hardware differences, Lumia 830 shoots Moment Capture in Full HD, not 4K, and with reduced 2-megapixel per frame quality.
** Available on the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, and Lumia 1520.

"Lumia Helps+Tips" is usually the more relevant one, containing product specific support articles as well. "Helps+Tips" on the other hand is a general app for all Windows Phone devices, containing only platform level support materials.
Did you manually download the "Helps+Tips" app from the Store or did it appear to your phone along with the Denim update?

That is nothing special or wrong. That is a normal country variant. You have to wait.

MS acquiring Nokia's D&S [removes] the go between
Microsoft Mobile has to create the firmware which is the go-between your phone and the OS. This is not going to change in future either. ‘Therefore’, some models lack behind others – Microsoft Mobile could fix this with more man power. Furthermore, Microsoft Mobile releases the firmware files in batches. ‘Therefore’, some variants lack behind others – because I am an end-user like you, and because I have not read a reason for this batching, I do not know how to solve that. Anyway, there is no need to bully your phone, it won’t get faster. Your phone notifies you automatically, when the update is available for your model, type, and variant (which is codified via the Product Code).

  • Vodafone/microsoft denim update issue for lumia 15...

This is for Anybody with vodafone in the uk that has a Lumia 1520!
According to the microsoft webite http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-europ...
The current update released is the Denim software, be aware, this is FALSE! According to vodafone (to which i have in writting) they do not alter the software of an of the microsoft handsets which means that if you are with vodafone, your handset is a country varient handset and there for the denim update is not yet available. This means that the stated vodafone specific 1520 does not exist and microsoft are missleading us all. I am in the process of having microsoft take this information off the website or at the very least have them deal with vodafone in this matter. As for the country varient hand sets, we are still waiting for the release of Denim.

    PSJames1:
It looks like the information about the Lumia 1520 Vodafone UK variant would have been on the site already for a while, as it also has previously received the Cyan update (Black -> Cyan), and devices with the Vodafone UK variant have been shipped to customers. So as I said previously, there should not be any major problem with the availability data on the site. The logic based on which Vodafone would have been selling phones with operator specific software or non-operator specific software to their customers though is something that I don't have full details for, so cannot comment that part more specifically. I can understand that you are upset with the fact that the Denim update is not still available for your phone, but removing the Lumia 1520 Vodafone UK row from the site would not change that. Hopefully the update will hit UK CV devices soon, as the Denim rollouts proceed.
We are looking at possibilities on improving the information on the site going forward though, and adding the manufacturer name detail (more specific identifier, than just country/operator infos) to the data rows might be potentially one such case. Will make a note of that.

  • Lumia Camera/4K not working after Denim Update

Hi, Received the Lumia denim update this morning but after installation, the Lumia Camera app is not open (displaying a megbox that says "Lumia camera requires Lumia denim software update") and the extra+info still shows "cyan". The rest of denim update features are working fine...
    Any solutions?

Received theLumia denim update this morning…
You got the OS update to ‘Windows Phone 8.1 Update’ which was released in September 2014. You have not received the firmware update ‘Lumia Denim’, yet. Even if Extras+Info shows different – it is wrong for many users right now – you do not have ‘Lumia Denim’ yet. Furthermore, even if several new features work, those features required just the OS update, not the firmware update. Lumia Camera 5 requires the firmware update which is not yet available for your firmware variant (059W1L3). When you have ‘Lumia Denim’ the firmware revision number starts with 02540.xxx for a Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520.
When is Lumia Denim available for 059W1L3?
Nokia releases the firmware files in batches, and does not tell us users when. Could be hours, could be months.
    What is a Product Code?
Every model, type, color, and even each region, country, and operator does get its own Product Code, ending-up in thousands of firmware files.
    What was the designation 059W1L3?
Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Lybia, Palestine, Pakistan.
Do I get updates always last?
Not in general, because sometimes countries like the UK are first, sometimes UK is last. Again, Nokia does not tell.
    Did that help?

  • Nokia Lumia 1320 random restarts after Denim updat...

    Dear Microsoft / Nokia,
I am writing this forum post because my nokia lumia 1320 is suffering some problems. Since the update, the phone is restarting itselve randomly.Today, the phone restarted itselve 3 times already, which was the provocation to send you this message.
I think it is a problem resulting from the recent Lumia denim update, before the lumia was significantly more stable.
The phone was factory resetted after the lumia denim update (1 week ago), and today i also performed a soft reset, without any results. (still random restarts).
Furthermore i noticed that sometimes the phone is unresponsive when i push the powerbutton, to unlock the phone.
My phone is on 8.10.14219.341, firmware: 3058.50000.1424.0001 (it is the Country variant from the Netherlands).
Hopefully there is a way to fix this problem,
    Thank you in advance,
    Wouter van Buul
Ps. I am not sure if this is the right place to report bugs?!

This is a user to user forum where we try to help each other, so reporting bugs is not the purpose of this community, that should be done direct to your local Microsoft Mobile support. However your problem is not a bug, just a technical issue with your handset and we can try to help.
Have you checked that all your system apps are up to date after the Denim update ? The easiest way to do that is from settings > applications > store > check for updates. If everything is up to date, I would do the following troubleshooting if I had this problem:
1.Remove the microSD memory card temporarily and monitor whether the reboots continue
    2. Get a new replacement SIM from your network
    3. If none of the above works, the next step would be a hard reset (settings > about > reset my phone), but since you say you have already done it, you can try a complete full reinstall of your firmware using the Software Recovery Tool. Please note this will completely wipe you phone, so a backup is highly recommended.

    Hi Kerttu,
Belle will not be available for Nokia E6 Country Variant Fr (059K1D-)
What is the reason ? These phones were bought "naked"...
Don't we deserve software updates ?
I had to go to a Nokia Care Center to get Belle (and I had to pay for it !).
Belle is ok, but I will not buy another Nokia phone since I can not be sure to have software updates in the future !
You can tell that to your managers !
    Best regards.

  • Denim update and connection fail for microsoft web services

    Denim update loaded recently to my Lumia 1020 but fail connection to Microsoft account and web services as well as to Nokia account. Fail code is 502;
Server Error 502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.

It might have not propagated to all servers yet and there are some reports that possible those in the Preview for Developers Program are getting BSOD updating, The Denim update for my Lumia Icon killed the phone
Give it some time and see if the update gets to you or not.
Using the recovery tool will wipe your phone to factory defaults.  If you are fine with losing all your data and restoring, sure go with that.http://www.windowscentral.com/denim-update-lumia-icon-software-recovery-tool

Hi, aakash006sharma. The update available in WP Recovery Tool may not be the latest as it is recommended to do it over-the-air (OTA). We also suggest going back to the latest approved software provided by the tool and try updating it again via OTA. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • I can install Amber country variant to an operator...

I promised to my sister a phone with radio fm, and request a Nokia Lumia 520, to my mobile company Movistar Argentina
At Nokia page say than at Argentina, update to Amber at Lumia 520 is only available for country variant (free cellphones) and at all 3 mobile operators (claro, movistar, personal) say waiting for aproval
There is a cheat to force country variant?

Unfortunately forum rules forbids the discussion of any topic that might result in the voiding of warranty. Apart from voiding warranty, you will also run a very high risk of bricking the phone in the process. Not something you should consider unless you really have to or you don't care what happens.

  • Sim-Free Country Variants in Australia Still Waiti...

We already have two carrier variants released, how is it possible that sim-free Country Variants Phones are unable to get the updates. Surely these are tested before they are given to carriers to test and approve so why is it the sim-free Australian variants are still waiting for approval.
These Phones are not tied to any carrier, so surely if one carrier says its fine for use should be all that is needed to release it to all sim-free phones. We already have Telstra (the biggest Telco in Australia) approve and release it for the Lumia 920, And the Boost Carrier (part of Optus in Australia, the second biggest in carrier in Australia) allow and release for the Lumia 820's, So why are Sim-free phones still waiting for approval.
Or have these phones just been forgotten as in previous updates for other nokia phones in the past

    jraduga wrote:
How Nokia and MS can test and approve something to a point that is ready for a carrier but not have it ready for non carrier based phones is really strange. Considering the carrier versions are based on the sim-free versions initially, before Nokia and MS make changes to suit the carriers. There should be no reason why they should still be testing the sim-free version completely around the world.
Who knows? Welcome to the mysteries of large multinational corporations. Gets even worse when there are 2 of them involved. I presume the same team/teams can only do one thing at a time. As they are prioritising their large customers, us minnows have to wait till they are done first.

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....
but I would be more inclined to to the factory reset and start afresh.
