DV 50 Vs Photo-JPEG (M-JPEG)

What is better over all quality: DV 50 or Photo-JPEG (as the Aja Io manual calls it, also known as M-JPEG?)?

Since Photo JPEG has many qualities available, it's best quality would be better, but it's lower qualities would be lower... Photo JEPG at 100% quality is akin to 10bit uncompressed media.

When I mail photos (via GMail) from my iPhone they are received on my PC as .jpg files, even if sent at full resolution.  Perhaps your e-mail service has imposed an attachment size limit, and in the process scales the attached picture down and alters the file extension?
What happens if you e-mail a photo from your iPhone and open the message from a PC instead of the Surface?  What e-mail service are you using? (e.g. your ISP's service, or Yahoo, Gmail, iCloud, etc.)  When you send the photo from your iPhone, are you selecting a reduced resolution?

  • Photos saved in JPEG unable to recognise

I'm using Photoshop CS5 on a mac. The photos saved in jpeg is only recognised by photo editing software. E.g. photos are unable to upload to facebook, nor view on a PC unless using paint. Please advise.

Windows systems require the file extension such as jpeg (.jpg) so windows programs know type of file it is.
On earlier versions of the photoshop cs series (i don't have past cs2 on a mac) under File Handling in the photoshop preferences
you could choose if you want the file extensions added when saving files.
Also under your finder preferences you can set your mac to show file extensions.
If you transfer a file saved on your mac to a pc you can also add the file extension to the end of the name  (example .jpg for jpeg files) or use from within photoshop File>Open As
and pick the format from the list.

  • Trouble Downloading Raw photo files and JPEG photo files in CS5

PS CS5 will not download raw photo files and JPEG photo files. The software will not recognize these files coming from a Canon G12 camera. How can I remedy this situation?

It should recognize the jpg files, but witht the G12, you need to update your camera raw. I believe there is a version what will work with CS5 and the G12.

Yeah you shouldn't use ~ in general. That is a shortcut for "Your home directory."
This is not strictly true. ~ is a "meta-character" in Unix shells -- it is an instruction to the shell to substitute the path to a home directory. It only has meaning in a Unix shell command, and only if ~ is the first character in a file path name. Outside of a Unix shell ~ has no special significance (although other programs might adopt a similar convention).
I don't see any reason why Aperture would be doing tilde expansion, and if it is, it is doing it wrong. "March~May Asia Trip" is a perfectly legitimate name in both Mac OS and in Unix. There is nothing taboo about using ~ in a file name. This behavior (which I can confirm) is almost certainly an Aperture bug.

When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there any way to prevent this ?

Hi Joe , Thank you for your quick response . I am viewing the jpeg in Microsoft Picture Manager and Flickr. It 's not always really noticeable , but for example if I shoot into the light with dew on the grass , the dew glistens in LRoom and I'm happy with the shot but when I convert it to jpeg ,it looks dull. I have changed the setting to sRGB - from Adobe 1998 ,but don't see much difference.  Kind regards   Alberto.

  • Automatic jpeg vs jpeg

When exporting a PDF from Indesign, what are the differences between choosing automatic jpeg and jpeg in the image compression settings in job options.
    Thanks, T

Compression - Determines the type of compression that is used:
    Automatic (JPEG)
Determines automatically the best quality for color and grayscale images. For most files, this option produces satisfactory results.
    JPEG
Is suitable for grayscale or color images. JPEG compression is lossy, which means that it removes image data and may reduce image quality; however, it attempts to reduce file size with a minimal loss of information. Because JPEG compression eliminates data, it can achieve much smaller files sizes than ZIP compression.
    ZIP
Works well on images with large areas of single colors or repeating patterns, and for black-and-white images that contain repeating patterns. ZIP compression can be lossless or lossy, depending on the Image Quality setting.
    JPEG 2000
Is the international standard for the compression and packaging of image data. Like JPEG compression, JPEG 2000 compression is suitable for grayscale or color images. It also provides additional advantages, such as progressive display. The JPEG 2000 option is only available when Compatibility is set to Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) or later.
    Automatic (JPEG 2000)
Determines automatically the best quality for color and grayscale images. The Automatic (JPEG 2000) option is only available when Compatibility is set to Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) or later.
    CCITT And Run Length
Are only available for monochrome bitmap images. CCITT (Consultative Committee on International Telegraphy and Telephony) compression is appropriate for black-and-white images and any images scanned with an image depth of 1 bit. Group 4 is a general-purpose method that produces good compression for most monochrome images. Group 3, used by most fax machines, compresses monochrome bitmaps one row at a time. Run Length compression produces the best results for images that contain large areas of solid black or white. Note:  Grayscale images that have been colorized in InDesign are subject to the compression settings for Color Images. However, grayscale images colorized with a spot color (and [None] applied to their frames) use the compression settings for grayscale.

  • Using adobe pro 9 to move photos out of jpeg into a word doc and keeping name of file as well

    Hi
I had an issue at work today and I wanted to move 300 jpeg photos into word.  The file became very large and I query whether adobe pro 9 can reduce size of the picture and also the size of the file before putting it into word.  I also wanted the name of the file to appear.
    Thanks
    marie

Sorry I may not have been clear.  With adobe pro 9 there is a function to combine files which is what I did.  I selected all the jpegs right hand click to convert to adobe (in windows).  This was sufficient for my purpose but I wanted the name of the file to also appear on each of the jpeg files.  I heard it is possible.

  • Photo scan to jpeg not in color

When I scan a color photo on my HP 8630 glass to my hp computer as a  jpeg,  the file I get is a black & white jpeg and not a color jpeg like it should be . There seems to be  no way to set to a color jpeg when sending it to my computer. If I use a jump drive I can select a color jpeg but what I get is a pdf, however it is in color.  I know I can work with the pdf in color and change it to a jpeg file.  I was hoping to just go directly to the color jpeg - it seems like it did so in the past, have had this printer for 5 months.

    Hi,
What is your operating system version?
Do you scan from teh HP Scan software on your PC or from the printer control panel?

  • Raw Photos Become Red Jpegs in LR3

Hello: I am having trouble when I use Lightroom 3 and I try to export my raw photos as jpegs. I require the Jpegs so I may send them on the web to either friends, or, to a company like istock. When I view the jpegs, they are often too red in color (this is seen in landscapes but is especially noticed in peoples skin tone...which often makes them look sunburnt or unrealistic) and they do not match my raw photos (often these are processed in CS5 and I view all photos on my Hp LP2475w monitor). Note that both LR and CS5 have been updated to the most current versions. I also calibrate my monitor with a Spyder 3. Naturally, I have tried to individually correct this color shift for each photo, but it can be a most laborious chore and it never looks quite right. Do you have any suggestions on how to correct this?   Many Thanks...

Same problem here. I do not understand what one means by exporting with ICC... jpeg are always exported using sRGB...it is the default LR. On a different note I CANNOT export with resolution less than 80 even when the slider is at 30... (the 87 in Picasa properties.)
    see 4 images at https://picasaweb.google.com/101433723404021878177/Test_LR_Reds?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgC OqwntDz7IW2SA&feat=directlink
The first and third and fourth are different attempts in LR 3.6 all transferred to jpeg as sRGB... the second one, with a better exif, is from Capture One. This is the color as taken -- the LR is simply too red. It looks like LR is NOT
    a) getting the jpeg compression as required and
    b) not rendering the local ICC (ProPhotoRGB) into sRGB... as found when loading the jpeg into PS5...
That seems to be either a user error... but I cannot figureout how to fix it.... or a possible bug...

  • How do I download images as actual photos & NOT just jpeg icons in Safari?

I can not get either Safari or Firefox to download images from websites, e.g. ebay items, as pictures----they only download as jpeg icons with a code name and then have to be opened in another app. In Explorer I used to be able to see the images as actual photos, which helped me when I was searching for a saved item in my files.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do know how to drop and drag photos/images off a website to my desktop, etc. in both Safari and Firefox. But they are only downloaded as jpeg icons, not as thumbnails. So if I save them in my files (I sell on ebay and have always been able to save both the text of sold items in Word and the thumbnails of the photos in Explorer), with Safari or Firefox they are only jpeg icons and in order to see what the thing IS, I have to open it. This means I cannot just look at my saved files and immediately find the item I am looking for by image. I want to be able to save images as thumbnails and NOT as jpeg icons. And, as we all know, Explorer has not been updated for Mac OS.
