DV Firewire Import Creates Multiple Clips

I'm just trying to import a bunch of 1 hour DV home movies. FCP X is making separate clips on import and I see no preference for it to not do it.
Do I have to use iMovie??
Thanks

I tried using QuickTime X. I get a black rectangle that looks like it's SD in dimension. I press the record button, nothing happens. I press the stop button and it gives me an error dialog about how it wasn't able to record and to try again.
The arrow button on the bottom right that lists source shows my Panasonic DV camcorder with the correct model number.
So this isn't working for me. Thank you for the tip.
I spent 4 hours, today, importing 4 1-hour DV tapes into Final Cut Pro X and it's pretty much a nigthmare. It just creates clips randomly, and sometimes frequently. You get a black flash on the screen and it started a new clip. Sometimes 30 seconds will go by, sometimes 3 seconds.
I took one of them, which was comprised of over 200 clips, and just selected them all and pressed E on the keyboard to put them down on the timeline. When I try to share it, it's stuck at 0%. Nothing happens. I let it sit for 3 hours and came back it was still at 0%.
I'm going to try Premiere Pro because this Apple quality control is still crap and what makes it more frustrating is it's THEIR hardware and THEIR operating system and I can't do a very basic thing like import DV footage - something I could do with the same computer 2 years ago in iMovie.

  • Import editing timecode to create multiple clips automatically

We have a long video of a a couple of hours. The content owner would provide a list of time codes with in and out points of the part he needs.
Is it possible to import the text file and have Premiere automatically create multipel clips based on the in and out points? If there is scripting approach, that would be fine too. If Premiere Pro does not have this functionality, what program has this feature?
    for example
    name,in,out
    topic 1,00:12:01,00:12:59
    topic 2,00:25:12,00:28:11
it will create multiple subclips in the bin based on the name and time codes for ins and outs.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you all for the recommendation. I will check it out. In terms of volume, I think it may be 20 or so hours of videos with probably ~ 100 clips.
On the format of the batch list, the link has it: When you import a batch list, the order of fields in the list must be as follows: tape name, In point, Out point, clip name, and comment.
What is a tape name? I only have MP4 or MTS from digital camcorder. How does it link to the media? I got a list of multiple edits without link to any video.
    e.g.
    tape name,00;00;01;00,00;00;04;13,Clip 1,comment placeholder
    tape name,00;00;05;00,00;00;09;13,Clip 2,comment placeholder
    tape name,00;00;00;00,00;00;12;13,Clip 3,comment placeholder

  • Import from Camera creates multiple clips

When importing from a DV camera via Firewire into Final Cut X, I get mixed results.  Almost always, it will create several clips, where it should only be 1.  There is no starting and stopping the camera, just one hour of non-stop video.  Between each of the clip sets, I am missing a single frame.  When I do this import, I might get 2 clips.  Do it again, I get 6 clips.
However, if I use iMove, it comes in as a single clip.
I've tried this on 2 computers (Mac Pro and Macbook Pro) with the same result.
I also had this problem with Final Cut Pro 7.
    Any ideas?
    Tim

i have this bug too. resizing the window, and then hitting play will show the whole window. i have a Panasonic HDC-SD7. it works, but a very annoying.

  • Time Lapse import creates new clip for every frame!

I shot a time lapse film - five hours reduced to 4 minutes ie one frame every 4 seconds. The iMovie Import wizard created a separate 'Clip' for every frame, (which is unusable), and then crashes the program every time I try to open it, I guess because there are too many 'Clips' to handle.
Is there a way to import these discontinuous shots as a single clip? If iMovie can't do it, any ideas on a better way? I couldn't get Quicktime Pro to do any better - it opened thousands of separate windows on the desktop.
Fortunately, the original is on DV, though each frame has a different time stamp on it.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    FYI
I found that iMovie 6 was able to handle the multiple files and I could export them as an MPEG4 file. iMovie 08 bombed big time.

  • Is it possible to select multiple clips and create a sequence from each individually?

Is it possible to select multiple clips and create a sequence from each individually?  If you select multiple clips and select "New Sequence from Clip" it puts all of the clips into one sequence.  Is there an easy way to quickly perform this on multiple selected clips separately?

So now I *have* used Butler with PPro, and it works very well, here's an idea of how to do it:
    Import folder of clips
Ensure first clip selected in bin and sorted by Media Type
Most of these commands need shortcuts assigning - mine listed below
    Macro:
To create seq from selected clip:
      ‘New seq from clip’ (Shift+CMD+N)
    To duplicate this seq:
‘Reveal Sequence in project’ (Shift+F) - not strictly necessary as it will already be selected
      ‘Window | Project’ (CMD+9)
      ‘Edit | Duplicate’ (Shift+CMD+/)
    To rename the duplicate
      ‘Enter’
Various keystrokes to rename as required
‘Enter’ - to make name stick
‘Shift+Enter’ - to reselect that sequence
‘Esc’ - to get out of editing name
    To change resolution of duplicate:
      ‘Sequence Settings’ (CMD+5)
‘Tab’ x 3 (to get to H Frame Size)
      ‘xxxx’ (to enter frame width)
‘Tab’ x 1 (to get to V Frame Size)
      ‘yyyy’ (to enter frame height
‘Enter’ x 2 as prompt will say previews will have to be deleted
To then find next clip ready for macro to run again:
      ‘Open in Timeline’ (Shift+CMD+O)
      ‘Match Frame’ (Shift+Spacebar)
      ‘Reveal in Project’ (Shift+CMD+F)
      ‘Window | Project’ (CMD+9)
‘Down Arrow’ - to select next clip
I tried it with Butler (manytricks.com - free trial, $20 to buy) and it worked a treat, takes about 3 secs per clip
AHK (for windows) is at autohotkeys.com and is free.
You could start making multiple macros - that would enable you to do grade / resize in middle of duplication - and then export etc, but I figure you can figure that out ;-)

  • Importing Multiple Clips in Order

Does anyone know why when I import video from either my video camera or off of a DVD through a ripping software the clips come in in multiple clips? I could deal with this if they came in the same order but they aren't even close to being in order.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Peter

Don't import into or edit in the clips viewer, do so to the Timeline. Then they will always be in order.
Regard the clips viewer as merely a 'parking lot' for stuff you may not need but don't want to delete yet.

  • Importing a lot of video clips from a Sony camera to FCE; during the Log and Transfer process, is there a way to add multiple clips to the browser instead of one at a time?

Importing a lot of video clips from a Sony camera to FCE; during the Log and Transfer process, is there a way to add multiple clips to the browser instead of one at a time?

Select one and click cmd-A which selects them all.
Then click the import button if it hasn't started already.

  • Importing Word docs  (creates multiple topics)

When I import a word document it creates multiple topics for
each file breaking up the document. How can i prevent this. The
word document contains bulleted and number lists.
    Court

In the "Import Word Document Wizard : Split on Style" window,
all styles are displayed in a list under the option "Create new
topics based on." This is where you decide how topics will be
split, if at all. You might want to make a copy of the Word file
first, then modify the Headings if need be. Then import that
    modified copy.
    Good luck,

  • Creating multiple records from 1 record in the source file for Import DM

    Hi Experts,
Today I am working on an interface/import where I want to get the following result:
Source file contains a records like:
    Account, Entity, DriverX
    Sales,EntityA,ZZ
The BPC appset contains the 2 dimensions Account and Entity next to CostCenter dimension. The DriverX field in the source file is just additional information in the source file. However based on this DriverX we need to determine what CostCenter to choose but we also need to have the same record assigned to a second record in BPC.
Following my example, based on DriverX value I need to create 2 records:
    Account, Entity, CostCenter,
    Sales,EntityA,CC1
    Sales,EntityA,CC2
I don't have a problem assigning the record to 1 CostCenter based on DriverX value but I have a problem creating my second record. Does any of you have had the same "challenge" and if so would you like to share the solution for this?
    Best regards,
    Johan
PS: I am working on SAP BPC, version 7.0 Microsoft version.

    Hi Greg,
Many thanks for your answer. And yes this would be a solution. However I just simplified my case as the decision to create an second record and where to post is depending on more than 1 field in the source.
But I will keep it in mind, because I also can opt for a solution to store data differently in BPC fac-tabels which will help me to use script logic.
If it is not possible to create multiple records from a single records in the standard functionality in the Transformation and/or Conversion file, I have to create a custom DTSX or change my way of storing data.
Anyone else who is having an alternative idea like Greg came up with?
    Please let it know!
    Best regards,
    Johan

  • Getting Multiple clips when importing DV file into iMovie 7

In previous versions of iMovie you could set a preference for importing movie files that either brought it in as one big clip or multiple clips. I don't see this in the new version. When I import a DV file it breaks it into about 30 clips. How can I bring in my file as one big clip?
I would appreciate fast response as I am on a deadline for this project. Thanks!!

There is no answer to this question. Its just the way it is and it stinks. I will continue to use iMovie 6

  • Corrupted clip import from DV: cut into multiple clips, wrong date

After importing DV tapes into iMovie '09, especially older ones, many takes are wrongly cut into multiple clips, some having the correct recording date & time, others having the current date & time. I have a single take, 32 minutes, cut into 685 tiny clips! All out of order... It's almost impossible to puzzle them in the correct order (and I lack the time).
Can iMovie be set to disregard timestamp info from the tape, and simply put clips in the order they are received from the tape? I could easily set the date & time by hand, and even make it understand it's one take, but not if it's a clip puzzle... Help!

Can imovie HD run on 10.6? I tried to install it and it said I needed iLife 08 installed first.
    Yes. It works fine.
    You have 6.0.4, you want 6.0 > 6.0.3 ONLY. 6.0.4 looks for iLife '08.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!
iMovie 6.0.4 requires that iLife 08 is already installed. iMovie 6.0 thru iMovie 6.0.3 has no such requirement. There are no known functional differences between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. If you install iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk it will probably be version 6.0 or 6.01. However you can update the software to 6.0.3 from Apple's Web site.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd602combo .html
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd603.html
If you want to have both iMovie 06 and iLife 09 (and most do) just install iMovie 06 first, then iLife 09. You are now UN-STOPPABLE!
Also when you install iLife 08 or 09, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09.

  • Unwanted multiple clipping paths created

In Illustrator CS4, Mac OS 10.5.8 - I open a document: any color mode. I place a tif image and then apply a clipping mask to crop the image. When I reopen the document, multiple clipping masks are now added around the image (at the edge of the entire placed image.) How do I stop this?

Screen Shot 1 of 3: Here is a placed image, with one clipping path. I've saved it and then reopened the file later. You can see the blue rules showing the edge of the actual image and the path of the original clipping mask. It's small but the document info palette says "Clipping Masks: 4".
Screen Shot 2 of 3: I have released the clipping mask and you can see the paths of the other mysteriously "added" clipping masks.  They are grouped with the image. After ungrouping I can move the image and the added clipping masks are left in place.
Screen Shot 3 of 3: I've now moved the image again and there seems to be another "mask" or path really close to the image edges. I can delete the path and the image still remains. So it is not the edge of the image I am seeing.

  • Multiple Clips from importing

Hi, I have Final Cut Express 3.5. When I capture video from my Canon ZR500 all of the video is imported as one clip. In iMovie the video would be cut into seperate clips everytime I paused the camera. Having seperate clips made it very easy to find the good takes. Im wondering if I can setup Final Cut to capture video in the same was as iMovie.
    Thanks
    Matt

  • How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?

OK...this is a probably a very basic question but I'm not sure how to word it clearly.
How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project? What I mean is that I have a bout 50 minutes of video and I want to make two DVDs using different clips from this original 50 minutes of footage. It would be a real pain to have to re-import the video AGAIN for the second DVD. I suppose I could drop anything I don't want to burn to DVD back into the clips pane but that would wipe out all my transitions wouldn't it? I want to save each project in their “raw” form so I can burn additional DVDs later otherwise I would just do them one at a time and not care about one of them being destroyed.
Wow...that was a mess. Does anyone understand what the heck I’m asking? I hope so.

How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?
You can't. You make separate projects using the same or different clips, segments, transitions, titles, etc. You can even duplicate the first project and then modify/make the desired changes in the duplicated project. Each project can then be burned as a different DVD or as different titles on the same DVD if there is enough room.

  • Can you avoid multiple clips of the same media in a project

We have 2 suites and we sometimes work together on a common project utilising the same media.
If I want to use a sequence from the other suite I can easily import it.
The problem:  it creates another folder with clips that only belong to the imported sequence.
The end result after a few imported sequences is that my final timeline has instances in it that
are from clips belonging to several different folders or bins even though the media is the same.
In summary... is there a way you can avoid having multiple clips of the same media in a project.
Makes for a very messy project when you have finished.
You've got multiple clips with the same name scattered everywhere.
    Cheers

    Not yet.
I'm kind of hoping this type of media management will be vastly improved in CS6, whose main new 'feature' reeeeeally needs to be outstanding network collaboration with other editors working on the same project.
