DV-PAL unsharp text

Hi!
This same question is also in iMovie thread as the example movie was originally made in iMovie. The same problematic situation is sometimes true also when working with FCE, so I post this question here also, as via this thread it is probably possible to reach more expertized/experienced people.
So
In the animation that I made in iMovie, and exported it to DV-PAL, the text is unsharp. When exporting this same DV-PAL file to MPEG4 file, the texts becomes sharp.
But when these two files were watched in PowerBook, the text was not unsharp in either of them.
http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/PAL-MP4-text.jpg
And as a surprise, when same files were watched in PowerBook, the DV-PAL file was as sharp as the other one...
Why is DV-PAL image quality very poor in other computer and OK in other?

I do not have TV or video monitor, so before asking this same question here again, I took a PowerBook and connected it to TV/LCD projector to see if the image is better in there.
The surprise came when I opened the same file in PowerBook, the image quality was perfect...
Quality checkbox is probably in my PowerBook by default set in high, and in PowerMac it´s differently...or something like that...
...anyway...
*High Quality* option removed the fuzzines from the titles.
Thank You very much!

  • Unsharp text when importing tiff

    Hallo all!
    I´m working with a publication right now, i write music in a program called FINALE (www.finalemusic.com ). I export the Finaledocument to TIFF, and then import it into Indesign CS5  to do the layout and combine it with grapihcs etc...
    BUT...when i print the Indesigndocument, all of my imported TIFF-files are slightly unsharp. Not much, but it´s a differens betwen the text in the imported tiff-file and the text i wrote directly in the indesign-document.
    First i thought the problem was when converting to PDF, but i compared a PDF , a Indesign and a original finale-file of the same document and it seems that the "unsharpness" has to do with the TIFF...
    I choose even 600 dpi to be on the safe side but...
    Any idea how to solve this?
    Klas

    Check your Export settings. By default, bitmap images that are way over "the usual" dpi are downsampled to 300 dpi. It shouldn't be harmful because that ought not be visible unless you zoom in quite a lot on your screen. It does, though, introduce a small sliver of grey pixels around your original graphics.
    Can Finale export to a vector format? Print to PDF? That ought to work flawlessly.
    If you are stuck to bitmaps, you can select a high dpi setting -- your 600 dpi, or even better, as high as 1200 dpi -- and convert the image to Single Bitmap with Photoshop or another useful bitmap editor. Single Bitmaps can have a super-high resolution and still maintain a small file size, and they will not be downsampled to the usual 300 dpi: they will get printed at the fullest possible resolution. (*)
    (*) Well unless you go way nuts and select something like 2000 dpi. The exact numbers for single bitmaps can also be found and changed in the PDF Export options dialogue.

  • Blurred and unsharp text

    Hi,
    I just got my screen replaced today because it was smashed and now the text is blurry and not sharp at all. I actually get a headache when reading a long email. What can I do to fix it? Or does this mean that the screen was not replaced properly? Pls help!
    Sus

    Hi @v3n0m ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-j126tx Notebook and issues with the text blurry or grainy.  Here is  a link to Advanced display settings in Windows 7. In this document it will show you how to change the display to the recommended settings.
    Adjust the display resolution under Windows 7: Image on screen has fuzzy text, is blurry or stretched and select the recommended settings.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    It might be those png files. Why don't you just use Text? I'm sure you'll find a webfont that suits your purpose.
    It looks clearer in both FF (PaleMoon) and Safari)

  • ITunes thinks my new iPod is my old one

    Brand new iPod vid. Xmas present. Very happy.
    Installed software, plugged into iMac, songs update onto the iPod flawlessly UNTIL a message informs me some songs have not been updated, because my iPod software is out of date... please visit apple.com/ipod etc etc.
    What the ****? How is it out of date. It's brand new. What's more: the newly installed iPod updater can't see any ipod, even though its mounted on the desktop. AND: in iTunes, under the iPod options, there are no options for videos or photos, and lo-and-behold, there are no photos or videos on my ipod.
    Up until yesterday I used my 3rd Gen 20gb ipod. Does my iMac think I still am using that old one? Is that why it wont stick my photos/vids onto my new one? And how can I update my iPod software if the updater wont see it?
    Rebooted, repaired permissions, reset ipod, shutdown itunes and restarted it, nothing works. Do i need to delete some file that is perhaps telling itunes that the ipod is a 3rd gen? Somebody help i want to watch videos on it!!!
    I have run software update. Nothing to update from software update. I've just plugged it into a PC, it works flawlessly, iTunes displays all the correct options for videos and pictures and also iPod Updater works too, I restored the iPod and then returned to my iMac hoping for a change.... Nada. Still no video/photo options in iTunes, updater shouts at me to plug in an iPod. What the **** is going on. I even tried dragging my iTunes to the Trash and reinstalling. No change.
    I'm pretty sure I'm not missing any iPod updater. I've installed it from the iPod cd, run software update, and manually downloaded the latest version (11-17 right?). And it still won't see my ipod. And itunes still thinks my ipod is out of date (cos im pretty sure it thinks its my old ipod!!!).
    Believe it or not I'm right to some extent. Check this out. When you plug an iPod in and go to the iPod options in iTunes, in the top right hand corner of the window it informs you in pale grey text what version of software is on your current iPod. Mine says 6.0.
    6.0!!!!!!!!!!!
    Version 6.0 of a 5th gen VIDEO iPod. I think not you scumbag computer.
    My 3rd gen was I believe on software version 2.3, so i have no idea why it says 6.0, but i know that my 5th gen definitely shouldnt be on 6.0. But perhaps itunes does in fact believe that this is my old ipod and is therefore refusing to put videos and pictures on it. How the **** do i convince it otherwise?
    This is fairly crap from Apple i must say. I cant be the only person in the world to plug in a 5th gen after using a 3rd gen so why all the hassle? Its ridiculous and my ENTIRE christmas is ruined......
    Seriously tho, somebody help me

    I have had the same problem. I followed the directions I see here to delete ipod.plist file in preferences and then reconnect ipod. I did this and I still can't get the video preference to show up. Is there something else I need to do? When I try to do the ipod update it still says that my ipod has an old os on it which is the os that is on my 3rd generation ipod. I really am very frustrated. I did everything that you did and feel like you do. I just still can't get it to show video preference. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm losing my mind!!! Thanks!

  • Got stuck on simple math

    FIrst of all I`m sorry for my newbie question,
    but I searched for my answer in other scripts and didn`t find solution.
    Script says that 100 not > that 2.
    I think that the problem in:
    var myStab=parseFloat(pal.num1);
    I`ve tried to change parseFloat to parseInt, but that gave nothing.
    What`s the problem here?
    var pal = new Window("palette","Analyzer",[0,0,300,200]);
    pal.solidBt = pal.add ("button", [100,175,200,195],"Analyze");
    pal.Al = pal.add ("StaticText", [10,10,100,30],"Is 100> than");
    /*Input*/
    pal.num1 = pal.add("EditText",[10,30,60,50],"20"); // first value
    pal.solidBt.onClick = analyzeBt_OnClick;
    pal.center();
    pal.show();
    // Comparing
    function analyzeBt_OnClick()
    var myStab=parseFloat(pal.num1);
    if (100 > myStab) {
        alert ("Yes!");
        }else{
        alert("No!");

    Indeed! Thank you!
    Can you also tell about Labeling, how to apply it (I mean that colorfull square on the left of Layer index).
    For example I`ve got this piece script:
    var myStab=parseFloat(pal.num1.text);
    var myLabel=parseFloat(pal.color1.text);
    if (myNum > myStab) {
        alert ("OK!");
        myComp.layer(1).label.myLabel = true;         // how to label this layer?
        }else{
        alert(myStab);
        alert("Error");

  • Pour quality

    When finally trying to burn my 85 min feature to DVD I am quite disappointed to say that the quality is pour.It must have something to do with the burningprocess as the MPEG2 window is exellent. But after burning the images are pale, unsharp and generally speaking not in broadcast quality.
    I have tried to reburn it with highest possible bit rate but there is no change.
    what have I done wrong?

    The answers to your problem can be found here (it has nothing to do with MPEG2 compression):

    (look at page 330 for how to set up a Proc amp)
    • http://www.signvideo.com/dv-black-levels-dvd-authoring-mpeg-2-part-1.htm
    It took me a while to understand this, but now that I do...it makes perfect sense! Looks like a gotta drop another $450.00 on a Proc amp, though. Yikes!

  • Why is predictive text now white on pale blue thereby rendering it unreadable?

    When using search on my i google home page the predictive text has changed colour to white on a pale blue background.This makes it unreadable.I have just tried setting up an i google page on IE and text is black on white and easily readable.
    This has only recently happened (within the last day or so).

    You can try as different Windows theme or a different Firefox theme to see if that helps.<br />

  • PAL to NTSC Text issues

    When I export from FCP5 to Compressor 2, converting PAL to NTSC, any text that I have used in FCP stretches vertically. Has anyone else had this and if so, have you found a solution???

    Here's what I don't understand - some guys captured this concert in two ways - a PAL camera (and associated audio) and then some sort of audio recording, a believe a DAT.
    They gave us PAL tapes which we have captured, and then ProTools audio files. Theoretically everything should match up at this point (the audio from the cameras and the audio from the recorder should be the same, right?)...
    Why would it be that after changing the MIXES (but not shortening or lengthening the audio), exporting from ProTools, and then laying them into the FCP track (syncing up to the first beat of a song, etc), they audio drifts? Not bad, about 1 1/2 seconds in 6 1/2 min of footage.. but nonetheless, this is a HUGE pain.
    Given this is a music DVD and the artist is a major musical stickler, changing the audio has a ZERO percent chance of being acceptable...
    Thanks again for your help -
    Jason

  • Text squeezing to wrong aspect ratio in PAL D1 Anamorphic project

    For some reason when I have been typing text into a PAL D1 Ana'phic project the text looks squashed, when it should look normal.
    Rather annoyingly it is my client who has noticed this after I have spent 2-3 days on a whole load of text graphics (18 projects)
    Curiuously, I have just started a new project and the text behaves correctly.
    Does anyone know why the problem may be occurring? The only other elements in the projects are red boxes created using the Motion Rectangle tool.
    My only quick workaround is to go back into all the projects and change the 'x' scale of the text.
    Any advice mucho appreciated.

    This may be slightly off subject, but I almost always have to go to the distort aspect ratio (in FCP) and correct it for Motion 3 elements, whether they are files or renders. It is true of various project settings and both video and stills, both HD and DV. Usuallly there is a 33% distoriton and I simply adjust to 0%, render the timeline and all is well. I've seen this referred to a few times - is it a bug?

  • PAL DV Widescreen deforming text layers

    Please help! I finished short video spot for multimedia cube in hockey arena and the specification for the cube is PAL DV Widescreen. So I prepared whole spot in AE in PAL DV Widescreen composition (from AE present). All seems to be ok but when I exported my work (also from PAL DV present) the text layers are completely wrong! Here is some pictures so you can see what is my problem. I am using only few PNG pictures, JPG backround and Text layers created in AE.
    This is what I see in AE:
    This is my composition settings:
    This is the final render result (screenshot from MPC HC):
    The pictures are little bit qorse quality but the text is completly destroyed!
    And this is exported one frame from AE to JPG (via Media Encoder):
    Please HELP! I need the final work ready on the weekned:( I rendered lots of motion graphics to PAL DV before and never had any problem. I dont know what Iam doing wrong now. I tryed to render video in Quicktime animation (it was ok) and then export the mov in PAL DV avi but the result was same.
    Thanks.

    Thank you very much for quick response. I will try to make square pixal PAL DV composition and render from that. But when i moved all layers to the new (square) comp every layer is in another position So I must adjust the layers. But I will try it. I am angry for myself because I always do it like you sudgest - make 1080p comp  > whole video spot create in this comp > render to HQ H264 (25Mbps) > render from this file the PAL DV smaller file. But for this spot I chose to create PAL DV comp to save process time Bad decision!
    Anyway I made second clip which is originaly created in 1080p composition. So I render this to 1080p H264 and then from this file to the PAL DV via Media Endcoder. And the result is confusing ONLY on the red panel is completely same "effect" like on the text from first video! But the grey panel is very nice and clean. So is the problem with deformation somehow fix to the red colour? And with thee second clip I process exactly like you sad. 1080p square comp > render to best quality 1080p H264 > render from this file to PAL DV widescreen. What I am doing wrong? Sorry for my english.
    Here is the screens from MPC HC:
    Red panel is wrong
    Yellow is ok
    HQ H264 file

  • Why are some songs on my phone in pale text and I cannot play them

    Why are some songs on my phone in pale text and I cannot play them
    the songs are in the library

    I had the same problem when only about 5% of my 11,000 song collection on my Ipad would play after downloading OS 7.0.  I re synced my Ipad with ITunes on my MacBook selecting no music and all of the music was erased from the Ipad.  I then re-synched it selecting all music, all songs re-loaded, and all songs play just fine.

  • Pdf text inserted in page not sharp

    I have a large pdf document I would like to copy into a page on my site. The problem is that all the text is converted into a picture file together with all the rest of the images and thereby renders somewhat unsharp (the text, that is). Not being an Illustrator wizard I have tried to save it all as an eps file and insert this into the page, but the text still seems unsharp. Just copying the the text in the pdf is of no use as when inserted in a text editor all spaces and tabs are lost. For the record, I don´t mind this text being a picture file as long as I can get it sharp. Any suggestions for solutions muchly appreciated. Jon

    If you are creating a still menu, then design it entirely in Photoshop. Photoshop has presets for all the different formats (i.e, NTSC, PAL, widescreen, normal, etc.) Use the format that exactly matches what you are setting your menu to. DO NOT create something at a higher resolution than what you will actually use. Export out a PICT, TIFF or PNG file. Bring that into DVD SP.
    If you are creating a motion menu, create that entirely in FCP. Export out a QuickTime video to Compressor where you will create a MPEG-2. Bring that into DVD SP.
    In either case you will want to create a grayscale PICT or TIFF as your overlay. Create that in Photoshop at exactly the size you will be using.
    Now that you have entirely made your menu elsewhere, you will will not need to add any text or graphics to your menu in DVD SP. In fact if you do it will definitely cause a loss in quality.
