Dv4-1123us heat

Since I got this laptop it has a heating problem.
It gets really really hot underneath it where the hard disk and the wireless card are located (and also on the top at the left hand side of the toutch pad). I have always used it elevated (at the begining over four legos and most recently over a laptop cooling pad). It does not matter because it still gets warm, very warm.
I also updated the BIOS and cleaned it with compressed air.
Unfortunatelly, the warranty expired and I can't return it.
My wife has a HP laptop (different model) and it works well.
Could you please advise?
PS: Quick update. Last night, I opened the compartment where the hard disk is located and verified: it is the hard disk. It was so hot I could not toutch it.

Same problem here brother.
My warranty expired on 14th Nov 2010 wheras I submitted my laptop on 13th.
Now my Hard Disk is heating more than CPU.
Infact excessive...

I would say its just a conicidence and recommend you to do a system restore. As its an intermittent problem, you never know if you face same issue once again.

  • HP Pavillion DV4 1123us power adapter problem

    Hi,
After using the HP Pavillion DV4 1123us for two years suddenly I noticed that the power adapter is not supplying power to the computer and it is making some not too loud repeatitive sound. I replaced the power adapter with HP 90W Smart Power Adapter which worked fine for a few weeks and then I noticed whenever I connect this to the wall outlet it makes some repeatitive chirping sound and this is also not suppying power to the computer anymore. It behaves like this even when it is not connected to the laptop which indicates that there is some problem with the adapter and not with the internal powers supply of the laptop. It is so surprising that the replacement power adapter stopped working so early.
In my home all the other laptops are working just fine and and found all of them are two pin  - only these two are three pin. Not sure if this has gota anything to do with this fault.
Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated.

  • Hp pavilion dv4-1123us Media Card won't read

I have a hp Pavilion dv4-1123us laptop that won't read a 16 GB SDHC media card. The card works in my PC, so the card is good. I have a Scandisk 5-1 media reader hooked to my home PC that would not read it but I found through Scandisk site I needed to download the latest Firmware which I did and now the card works on my PC. The reader has always and still does read a 512 MB and a 2 GB XD cards on my laptop. I am running XP Pro OS.
I have searched the HP site for driver downloads but only see them for Windows 7 and 8 not XP.
Can someone help me on this?

    Hello wgray826,
You’re having a problem not being able to read a 16GB SDHC card.
I think that your computer does not support the SDHC card.
Here is a link to your user guide and what cards it supports.
I noticed that it shows the Secure Digital but not the Secure Digital High Capacity.

  • Hi def sound card? internal dv4 1123us

I recent ly put this out there and accidentaly clicked on solved after 1 reply/
is there any software that is in this thing that will let me record line in (Im not talking microphone) I mean come-on HP has to support its own device, or at least provide the ability to do so with a little work. How do you have a hi def sound card w only mic in?

This site (http://harness.gadgetscope.com/view/XFIH-002) sells a cable for this purpose that will work with any SB card with the ten pin white connector on it. Bit expensi've but should do the trick.

  • Question about Pavillion DV4 1123us

Hi, I hope some one can answer this question for me here.
I wanna know if it is possible to install a graphics card into this model or if i can upgrade the graphics card in it. I've searched all over the internet and found out that it is possible to change out a graphics card on a laptop but the process can be very difficult and very expensive if even possible on your model. I tried doing some searches with google but found no luck since the results were vague. I'm hoping that I can upgrade this laptops graphics card but I cant find any info on if it is even possible with this model. When i brought this model I just brought it for school but now that my desktop has died it has become my primary computer. I really want to play some of the games I have and I dont want to buy another computer.

Upon further investigation, I've found that the optical drive is a
Mat**bleep**a dvd-ram uj-851s ata device. Dunno if this makes searching
for a manual easier. I know it hasn't helped me.
Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

  • Can't get my laptop running

Something has happened to my notebook and I can't figure out what's wrong. I don't want to turn it in and pay to have it fixed unless I know it isn't something stupid that I am just not figuring out.
My laptop wont really turn on. It powers up, the fan runs for about two seconds and then turns off but all the buttons on the laptop are turned on and some are blinking(Caps Lock and Scroll Lock?) the screen never once flickers or shows anything. I figured it might be a screen issue so I tried outsourcing it to another monitor and to a tv and neither worked. It's like it is stuck in stand-by or sleep mode or something.
Anyone have any idea what is wrong with it? Perhaps a hard reset that will wipe everything and start to over? Just something to get it going again. I don't care if I lose everything or not.
It's a HP Pavilion dv4-1123us and it is running Windows Vista.
    Thanks

seems like a securty lock on the motherboard. near the heat sink, there is a screw. it points locked and unlock. when unlocked, laptop starts for 2 seconds, and then shuts down

  • USB ports not working properly

I have a pavillion dv4 1123us - old.  It is not recognizing usb devices - although the usb ports are still providing power.  I have tried reinstalling the chipset and reinstalling the usb ports by deleting from device manager.  Intermittently, my modem seems to fade in and out but is easy to reset - just annoying.  I have tried to find a way to reinstall the bios but have been unsuccessful.  Please give suggestions.

USB devices can be rather problematic as you probably already know. Thus I'd start the troubleshooting process in this situation by plugging devices (one at a time) directly into the Mac, dispensing with the hub, to see whether problems continue or not. If they do, then it means the hub is not to blame while it the problems don't recur, the hub is the culprit and would warrant being replaced.
Be aware however, that since USB is controlled by the CPU, the rate at which data streams is dependent to some degree on what else the system is doing. Thus you can help reduce issues by ensuring the system isn't busy with other tasks while you have something critical going on via USB. Or, as you discovered with MP3 playback, use firewire instead. Firewire is controlled by a dedicated controller, so performance doesn't vary with system load. That's why it is generally recommended that for situations where data needs to be streamed to or from external devices such as video cameras, hard drives, DVD burners etc, these are best connected via FW rather than USB.

  • No HDMI audio out after Windows 7 Upgrade

I have a DV4-1123US with an Intel Integrated Graphics Card(X4500, I think), and Intel High Definition Audio HDMI.  After upgrading to Win7, there is now no longer an option to set HDMI to use as audio.  In other words, HDMI no longer shows up in the Audio Devices window.  Video works fine.  It seems that I am not the only one having this problem, but does anyone have a solution?  Is this something that we just have to wait on an updated driver for?  I downloaded the most recent video driver from Intel, but Intel for some reason does not recognize my audio driver...

Never mind, problem solved.  I have the Intel chipset for video.  I went to Intel's website, they have a utility under chipset support to tell you if you have the latest driver.  I ran the utility, it told me what I needed, I downloaded it, and after reboot, I have sound through HDMI.

  • Suddenly my keyboard is typing every letter twice

My HP Pavilion dv4-1123US has suddenly started typing every keystroke twice.  I get double letters for everything typed.  This is happening for every key, letters, numbers, backspace, cap lock.  PPAASSWWOORRDD.  Etc.  I am forced to use a virtual keyboard that came with Kaspersky Internet Security. I tried uninstalling the device driver for the keyboard in Device manager and letting Windows reinstall it during reboot.  This did not work. I running Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone else having this issue?  How can I fix it.

I set both sliders to the mininum setting.  That is long delay and slowest repeat rate.It didn't work.   There was an effect when I held the key down.  That was much slower but I still get double characters when typing. I'm using my desktop for this post.  I have to use the virtual keyboard that came with Kaspersky Internet security to do any typing on on HP laptop. In device manager shows Windows 7 64 bit is using the driver for a Standard PS/2 keyboard.   Is that correct?Does HP have a better driver I should be using. Everything was working well until I unplugged my HP Pavillion to pack it for a trip.  I decided not to take it after all so it sat for a weekend and drained the battery all the way down.  Since then I've  noticed the double letters when typing.    Windows did say it was shut down improperly...probably when the battery ran out...and needed to do a repair. After the windows 7 reparied itself I've had the issue.  I've tired removing the keyboard from the device manager and letting Windows reinstall it.  It didn't work.
