Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
Windows 7
Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this, again not deleting drivers if asked. Then open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Reboot the PC and let Windows reinstall the devices.  Check the drive again.
If it still isn't working, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
Windows 7
Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • DVD-RAM read/write in OSX 10.8.2

I have a number of disks in the DVD-RAM format which are backups from a family member.  I need to resurrect this now dated, but still quite effective DVD standard.  I have acquired a later Model Matshista (Panasonic) drive, Model SW-9576S, one of their faster and more recent DVD-RAM cartridge drives. It is housed in a new IDE=>USB enclosure.  It works fine on my 17" MBP using Win 7 in bootcamp, both reading and writing.  I believe I have an OSX software problem, since on the Mac side of the machine, the drive mounts, and files can be seen, but they cannot be read, and I cannot write a file to new media.  All of these cartridge DVD-RAM disks come from the factory formatted as "UDF".  I tried to format one for the Mac using disk utility, but it did not work, returning a disk error message and not allowing the format.
I know this is supposed to work, and DVD-RAM standard is still supported.  It has some advantages, particularly its ability to function as a hard drive with unlimited read/write cycles.
I would be grateful for any help....

DVD-RAM cartridges have a lock button for physical access to read/write.  Look for it.
MOST 3rd party DVD recorders from Samsung and others will read/write DVD-RAM in modern units. Check their specs.  The Apple Superdrive does NOT work with DVD-RAM
There is more issues about compatibility from the external USB 2.0 drive case onboard chip talking with USB 3.0 machine than with the Panasonic unit.
You can remove the DVD from the case and try using it in the unit as well.  The case just functions as an extra protection for fingers and dust.
IF it mounts, work with Disk Utility to check its abilities. If you can see it, and choose to Repair Disk successfully, its working.  If it gives you trouble to READ it, try a better enclosure/connection type like those from OWC or Mac knowledgeable sellers.

  • ~/oradiag_$USER/.. and "Directory does not exist for read/write" issue

    Hi.
Recently I've discovered that ADR was creating a folder in one of ours Oracle 11.2.0.1 server, in the users home like ~/oradiag_$USER/.. The problem is that this logging files dont stop growning, and they are filled only with this lines:
    Wed Apr 11 13:40:06 2012
Directory does not exist for read/write [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log] [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log/diag/clients]
    Wed Apr 11 13:40:06 2012
Directory does not exist for read/write [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log] [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log/diag/clients]
    Wed Apr 11 13:40:06 2012
Directory does not exist for read/write [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log] [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log/diag/clients]
    Wed Apr 11 13:40:06 2012
Directory does not exist for read/write [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log] [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log/diag/clients]
    Wed Apr 11 13:41:06 2012
Directory does not exist for read/write [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log] [usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/log/diag/clients]
    etc
I've searched around internet about this issue all that I've found is a "workaround" by creating those folders. And yep, it works, it stops growning.
Then I checked the others servers that we have, and the problem replicates in some servers with the same Oracle version.
My question is: Why this? Why in some servers ADR is looking for that folder? That folder didnt exist in any of them, but only some servers tries to read/write on it (or, at least, log it) What parameter relies on it?

  • Recurring Read/Write Issues (1 year now) - NEED FIX

My Macbook Pro Mid-2009 had a hard drive issue -- lots of weird errors, unclear. Essentially, switched out the hard drive for a brand new one, did a clean install on a 1TB 7200 RPM Hitachi HD. Continued to throw errors when trying to read/write so I was told the hard drive may have been defective out of box.
Since then, have replaced it with another 1TB 7200 RPM, then a 512GB 7200RPM and now finally a 320GB 5400RPM. ALL CLEAN INSTALLS. Still getting errors -- at this point, I'm being told when trying to Download Chrome that there is no room available when in reality there is ~300GB free, and when trying to change permissions to the Downloads folder am seeing "An unexpected error occurred (error code -50).
I've been to the Mac Store ~8 times about this already and still no fixes. One suggestion was maybe the Hard Drive Cable is broken? I had it replaced in 2012. Thoughts? Is there any way to check this?

    Hi,
      paramErr
    = -50,  /*error in user parameter list*/
It's not formatted Case Sensitive is it?
Sounds like other HW problem like RAM, Logic Board, cable, etc.

  • HDD Read/Write Issues

    Hi,
I'm currently using a Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2009 with 4GB RAM and a Western Digital WD500GB Scorpio Blue HDD. Untily today everything was fine, but now my Macbook on Mac OS X 10.6.4 is horribly slow. AJA System Test showed me the following, I guess that's what slows down the whole notebook...
    http://skitch.com/epij/dhuf5/ajaslow
    System Profile looks like this
    http://skitch.com/epij/dhug1/systemprofile
But actually I don't know wether it's really the HDD or not, because Win7/Bootcamp is just running fine (about 45MB/s Read/Write).
Any advice would be great. (btw. I tried formatting the Mac OS X partition and installing 10.6.4 from scratch) And please excuse my bad english, it's not my native language
    Thanks, Epij

  • Internal Optical for DVD-RAM read/write

I want to buy an internal DVD multidrive to install in my MacPro. I have old Type 1 DVD-RAM media from my trusty Sawtooth G4 that I want to keep using and I want to continue archiving my freelance jobs, photos and video to DVD-RAM, using more current cartridge type disks.
Though I've searched quite a bit on the Internet for something I'm having trouble determining whether drives I'm finding accept the Type 1 cartridge and whether the drive will be compatible with my MacPro.
Does anyone have personal experience with installing a DVD-RAM drive on a MacPro? Any suggestions for selecting a drive or for installation?

My old Type 1 disks are double-sided and I also want to use Type 2 and 4 double-sided cartridges if I buy a DVD-RAM drive. I like having archival data on disks inside the cartridges. These are like glorified ZIP disks. For my intended use, I think they're much superior to a non-cartridge disk.
I found some Panasonic drives that are billed as capable of playing cartridge disks, the one directly below even specifying Type 1.
    http://www.usb-ware.com/panasonic-lf-m821-oem.htm
    http://www.cwol.com/dvd-burners/panasonic-lf-m821-oem.htm
The above sites feature almost identical product pages, along with a few other sites I landed on. That fact made me a little wary, since I don't understand the reason to have multiple sites with the same pages but a different name in the site header. I also don't find this drive on any sites other than these with the identical product pages. I wondered if it is a non-U.S. market drive. When I wrote the company they responded affirmatively about the drive working on my Mac and playing the Type 1 disks, but they didn't respond to an inquiry about it being a U.S. vs. non-U.S. drive and whether that mattered for my hardware. The Panasonic USA web site also didn't feature this drive, so that concerned me.
The Panasonic drives below show cartridge capability but don't specifically say that they're Type 1-compatible:
    http://logicalplus.stores.yahoo.net/padvddlsumud1.html
    http://logicalplus.stores.yahoo.net/answ5xdvdram.html
    http://logicalplus.stores.yahoo.net/pasw8xdufodv.html
It seems that Panasonic is the company making drives that may be suitable for my particular needs. I'm just a little wary and am hoping someone else has had some experience with these drives on G4s/G5s and/or Intel MacPro computer.

Any suggestions or good things to know?
    Janice

You can buy cheap optical drives or more expensive ones that may or may not last longer.
I prefer tray loading drives over slot loading drives as the discs don't jam in tray loading drives and the loading mechanisms in slot loading drives can have issues and be problematic.
I would look at various optical drives from the OWC ( macsales.com).

  • Unable to read/write CDs/DVDs

I have a Sony DVD RW DW-U10A combo drive. I have been unable to write CDs for a few weeks now, but manage with my MacBook. Now however, the drive in the iMac doesn't see either blank or written CDs, or professionally produced CDs. This also applies to all DVDs.
The only, but major, change that I have made is to upgrade to Tiger. I cannot categorically link the problem with the upgrade.
Could this be the cause of the problem? What can I do to be able to read/write CDs while using Tiger?
How can I clean the CD lense if that is also contributing to the problem?
    Thanks in advance

  • Mounting UDF formatted DVD+RW in read-write mode

    Hi folks,
I'm having trouble getting Leopard to mount a freshly formatted UDF DVD+RW in read-write mode. It always seems to come up mounted read-only regardless of the options I give mount or mount_udf. I've tried default and 2.5 versions of UDF, specifying fix-packet when creating the volume, specifying -w on mount_udf, specifying -o w on mount, etc.
The disc seems to be created okay, and shows free space..Just can't figure out how to use it. Any thoughts/working recipes? Example transcript follows..
    Thanks in advance,

Looks good so far -- the volume was created fine, is readable, mountable, and shows free space..

    /dev/disk1 on /Volumes/Backup (udf, local, read-only)
    scutter:~ doucej$
....but it still won't come up read-write, so I can't actually use it.

If LVM has dropped write permissions on a volume or group then its probably for a good reason. You might want to look at the root cause for the failure and check /var/log/messages for any information.
If you don't care about the data, you might be able to to bring back write access using
    <pre>
    lvchange --ignorelockingfailure -p w VolGroup00-LogVol14
    </pre>
But like I said, there is probably a good reason why the volume is write protected in order to prevent further damage, or because of a underlying hardware issue.

  • How can I change read/write permissions for a DVD RW?

I've some files saved onto a DVD RW previously and would like to add on more files to it.  However, it doesn't allow me to do that.  When I checked the file info, it says that I have read & write privilege, but at the same time, there's another line that says "You can only read".  When I clicked on the lock to attempt to make changes to settings, nothing is clickable.  Take a look at the screenshot below and you'll know what I mean.
Can anyone advise on why this is happening?

A DVD-RW has to be wiped before re-use, so you will lose all data previously copied to it.
