DV4t-5200 Main Board bad?

Hi all, i have a Envy DV4t-5200 laptop that recently stopped working (out of warranty), it wont power up at all, no beeps, very little lights, no HDD activity......
I did some extensive trouble shooting, diconnecting various items from the main board- dvd drive, speakers, fan, keyboard, touchpad, etc... and did manage to get it working agian, the computer seemed to be cycling trying trying to get started, fan would start up, then stop almost immediately, then do it all over again, eventually i got lucky and it started. I put everything back together started it up again and all was good.  Came back the next day and it was back to doing nothing again.  So.... back to the drawing board; started pulling things apart again, this time while trying to get it goign with virtually everything disconnected again, the fan barely budges at all when i hit the power button.  So ive narrowed it to two possible problems, please keep in mind, I've tested the power supply, its reading 20 volts as it should, I also have been doing my testing with the battery pulled out, so its not that either:
1.  Bad power jack (plug in wire harness type) - Ive tested the voltage on this with the compuer plugged in, i seem to be getting 20 volts on all of the red leads, which seems normal with my limited knowledge of wiring.  Anything else i should be testing on this to rule it out?  Obviously cant test to see if the voltage does anything weird when it starts, because it doesnt start.
2.  Bad main board - Everything looks fine on it, but who knows.  The product number on it is 717188-501, i cant seem to find this part anywhere online, anybody have any advice on how to replace this?  I bought the computer about 18 months ago, its kind of frustrating that i cant find a part for a computer this new.... Are there any relatively straightforward ways to test the main board? Obviously im not opposed to getting my hands dirty so to speak...
I will also mention that i suspected the problem could be in the "switch" that puts the computer into hibernate when closing the lid, when getting it working initially i noticed that it seemed to start depending on how the lid was poistioned.  So when i did have it momentarily working i set it up to do nothing when the lid closes, this seems to not be the problem since its not working again but who knows.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Jon

Sorry, one more thing i should mention; when i had it working, i reconnected things one at a time to try and isolate the problem, but none of the various components caused the problem again.

  • MBP Boots sometimes - If logic or main board bad, what can I expect?

    The Symptoms:
MBP Boots only occassionally. When it does not fully boot you can hear the disk and fan very slowly wind up, over the course of a minute. There is no startup chime. The screen never comes on and remains dark, no external monitor comes up, the keyboard and usb ports are disabled, and the latch light glows steady and dim. It doesn't repond to startup key commands and the disk you can hear doing something but nothing comes on.
I've swapped out the ram, booted into safe mode (when I can get it to boot), run disk utility and disk warrior, among other tools, booted from a flash drive to run diagnostics. Disk checks out fine, zapping pram, resetting smc, all this does nothing. Genius bar did diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong, but offered me the repair depot.
    Conclusions:
So after researching many threads the past few days, a trip to the apple store with some diagnostics, and further testing/swapping ram/resetting pram and smc, I've come to the conclusion that I must have a problem with the logic board or main board. My computer only starts up after about 5 cold boot attempts and/or some of the above processes. Once it's up and running it's fine. When it doesn't boot the drive spins up, the fans come on, but the screen/keyboard/usb etc are all inactive, and the latch light is a steady dim white. When the computer does boot it runs fine.
    Question:
My question is, should I expect more serious problems in the near future, or is it at least possible that I could limp along for some months in this condition? I have the option to possibly submit it to repair depot for refurbishing, but if I could make it at least through some june update news I could make a more informed decision about what to do.
Any and all information, experience, or suggestions are much appreciated.

I agree with you that the people who staff the genius bar are not genius' but technicians, and are of varying degrees of competency.  However if you are offered what is referred by some as a 'depot repair', consider it very seriously.
My experience is as follow with my old 2006 MBPs:  Several years ago I had a serious problem with the display and was offered said repair that would fix the display issue and any thing else that was found to be faulty.
    The following was replaced;
         The Display
         The Optical drive
         The Airport card
         The top cover
(the old one had dents in it and there was no expectation on my part that it would be  replaced)
          The keyboard
          The bottom case
          The RAM cover
The total cost was a fixed price of $310 which was told to me up front.  That is what I paid (plus tax).  The invoice showed a total of $1240.  I still have that MBP and it still looks and operates as new.  This repair was not done locally, but at an off site location.  I suspect it was done by very well qualified technicians.
If you are offered such an option and your budget can accommodate it, I suggest you take it. You also get a 90 day warranty with it.
    Ciao.

  • New Main board, new serial number?

I recently had my main board (logic board) replaced, thanks to a badly manufactured product. Anyway on my old main board I had ID, PH and AI installed. Now every time I start up one of the three programs, it prompts me for a new serial number. As I have already used both strikes (on the desktop and laptop), this new problem kind of leaves me on thin ice, with now less than 30 days time to get a new serial-number. Do I have to rebuy the student package or is it possible to get a new serial number?
    cheers!
    Oliver

You have to get in touch with support. As the product was already activated twice, you won't be able to activate a third time.
    See the following thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4034661#4034661
You can use the earlier serial number after that. Keep your oder details and proof of purchase handy when you chat/call support.

  • WANTED! L.G. Phillips Main Board out of 22" Cinema Disp.

I have a 22" Clear Acrylic Cinema Display. The inverter board went bad so I got one and installed it. It woks fine, I now have a backlight. However, in the process I managed to break the little (miniature) white hold down tabs on the digital main board. They must have become brittle with time. They break off very easily. It's NOT the main board (in the middle) that the power and signal go into but there is another board (on the far right side) that has (2) ribbon cables top & bottom that I assume create the video signal. Anyhow, I Googled this board and found only ONE on the whole internet and it is in Liverpool England. I don't want to order/buy that far away.
Does anyone have a broken 22" or 23" cinema display that may have a good video board with known good ribbon cable clasps.
Below are the specs I have found:
This LG Main board comes from a 22" Apple Cinema Display with a native resolution of 1600x1024. This board screws into the frame behind the LCD.

Product Number: LM22OW1 Control, P/N: 6870L-C016F.
I have a picture of it but can't seem to put it in this post.

  • Want to install Windows 7 64 bit to DV4T-5200

I'll keep it short - my wife hates Windows 8.  She also hates 8.1.
I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit to her DV4T-5200 laptop, and I have never had so much trouble getting an OS installed before.  Does anyone know what BIOS settings I need to enable and disable to get this to install.
I have gotten all the way to the last step of the installation (media I am using is DVD) and get "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" message.
The thing is, there HP has Windows 7 drivers on the support page for this laptop... so it doesn't seem like I should be unable to perform this installation.
Any ideas would be great.  I am on day 3.  I predict by day 5 she will fully process the fact that I have completely killed her laptop.  Life will be worse.  LOL.  : )

Ok, I understand that Windows 7 includes SP1 and I guess it is not possible to create aUSB install Windows 7 "UEFI mode"

  • MBP 13" unibody main-board failure after 1 year and 10 month. Apple does not care!!!

    Hi Apple Communites!
I have a big problem with my MacbookPro. I bought my MacbookPro in december 2010 in Thailand. 5 days ago My MacbookPro suddenly switched off and never start again.
So I sent it to Apple Dealer in Phuket, Thailand to check. Now they told me it is the main-board failure and i have to change it on my own cost.
And it is 26000 Thai baht (870 US Dollars). How comes that Apple do not take care for my cost.
My MacbookPro is not two years old. For this price i better buy a new PC notebook.
Can some of you please help me for a solution or answer? I use Apple almost 10 years and never have problem like this. Or Apple do not taking care of their customers or quality products anymore?  lertlid trzop

you are right!! but is this the quality product of Apple that lasts for just 1year and 10 months?
If it so then i think about to go back to PC after 10 years using Apple products and no one from Apple cares about customer service and quality.
Sad Story about Apple. What Steve Jobs and Tim Cook gonna think about this.

  • After replacing main board how to install OS X

    Hi guys,
I had lots of problem with my late 2011 macbookpro, after Apple's main board replacement program, I gave my computer to the service( not apple store, because I don't have one in my city). Now they changed my without any payment but they didn't install any OS X in to my computer and they want to charge money for installinng OS X. Is it normal? (My first question)
I am trying to install OS Xit but I couldn't manage ( when I gave to my computer to the service I have mavericks by the way.) Now When I enter Os x utilities menu and press reinstall Os x. Os x mavericks screen is appeared. I am connecting wifi and entering my apple id but it says 'This item is temporary unavailable . Try again later'
Can you help me what can be problem?? How can I install OS X my own?

My opinion is that you should have had an OSX installed as part of the replacement process.  But my opinion counts for little.
Try this:  Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys down.
If successful, you should see a revolving globe.  By following the directions, you will be connected to the Apple servers and should be able to install the original OSX that came with your MBP (Lion was the OSX for late 2011 MBPs).
You will need a solid Internet connection.
    Ciao.

  • I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. It spent time underwater, saltwater. I let it dry for a week, turned it on, the apple symbol came on, then it died. I need to retrieve my photos off it. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

You're talking about the logic board. The two most likely things to get toasted, with water damage, are the battery(it shorts out), & the logic board. The worst water damage would be salt water. I'm afraid your logic board is toast.

Did you buy a Tri-channel memory kit for Intel systems? If so, you bought the wrong memory. Read the memory sticky topic up top...
AMD64 CPUs have a dual channel memory controller, you need 1,2 or 4 sticks for best operation.

  • Listing folder from a main board connected by serial port

    Hi
I have a main board, I connected it serially and accessed it by VISA application and I have managed to write to and read from it.
My problem is how to list the folder from the board. There are many files in every folder with different file format.
    Any help will be appreciated

It is advanced embedded board, it can be counted as a storage device. We are aiming for friendly LV user interface for the customer to view the file stored on it.
And farther we want to list the files, and might add:
    loadapp                       (load application loader file)
loadmax2                    (load and program the Max2 using jam stapl)
    reboot                         (reboot the blackfin)
    boot <filename>         (boot an application)
flashapp                     (program the loaded application loader file to flash)
setboot <filename>   (tell bootmanager which application to boot on startup).
unsetboot                  (reset the application to boot).
    setmac <address>   (ex. setmac 01:f0:cd:45:1f:2a).
    setip <address>        (ex. setip 192.168.0.150).
    dir                              (list all files).
    settime                      (ex. settime 12:04:01).
    gettime                      (print out time).

  • Blown 23" Cinema Display -- main board? or Inverter?

I bought an Apple OEM Nvidia Geforce 3 for my G4 Cube, and the idea was that it should power my 23" Cinema Display (clear). But the monitor became blown when I connected it to an incompatible video card -- although the power light comes ON, the screen fails to illuminate.
I'm hoping that someone can contribute to a diagnosis of my Display's problem. Here is the situation:
The online Authorized Reseller "The Mac Support Store" sells various parts for this monitor. There appear to be two choices:
    1) The main board for the 23" Cinema Display is offered here:
    http://www.macsupportstore.com/product.asp?pf_id=922%2D5582
    and...
    2) the inverter board is offered here:
    http://www.macsupportstore.com/product.asp?pf_id=922%2D5581
But which one should I buy?
I realize this is pretty lame, inviting a stranger to diagnose a monitor he's not seen, but... you never know. Maybe you know what you're talking about. You probably know more about it than I do.
Is there a good reason for suspecting that the blown Display is the main board? Or the inverter board?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't know whether this will be of help but last year I started having all sorts of problems with my 23" Cinema Display. I replaced the power supply 'brick' - but still had problems (blank screen etc) - read lots about issues with these displays. I was running 10.4.11 - In the end I tried re-installing the system on another drive up to 10.4.8 - and it's worked fine ever since (it also cured a number of other weird problems) - ok, so I can't get the latest itunes software - but at least I have a screen that works. It seems that anything above 10.4.8 causes problems on my G5 Dual Power PC.
