DV6 1130SA Upgrades

I have downloaded the service manual for my laptop (DV6 1130SA) and have been looking at the processors. Currently it has an Intel Dual Core T4200 800 FSB but listed are a few of the Core 2 Duo processors.
So I have been thinking on getting a new processor, namely a Core2Duo T6600 (800 FSB again) to put in the laptop which will give me a little longer out of the laptop and I should hopefully be able to put off buying a new one for another year if I can do this.
I have also just been looking at the Core 2 Duo P8600 so if either of theses processors are good to go please let me know
So the question is will the mentioned processor actually go in my existing laptop, I cant find anything about the processor socket online anywhere. I need to know understandably before I go out and buy one at the end of the month.
Anyone got any thoughts on this, I know what I am doing with builds etc. I am thinking it will be fine but posting here just to see if I can actually get some clarity on this.

Hi,
I'm using a dv6-2064ca for almost four years now, it's been a very reliable notebook for me.
I am now looking into wheather or not I can upgrade the processor or not. I came with an AMD M640. Does anyone know if I can use a newer/bigger processor or not?

Hi,
I have had a dv6-2060ea but with Intel Core i7-720QM. I think you could swap the AMD board with an Intel one for quad core processors like I had. There is a GeForce 230M graphics chip but you could have a Core i7-840QM processor on it. I have also had an SSD on it and my workmate almost blessed me how good laptop he has got now.

  • Pavilion dv6 WLAN upgrade

    Hello, I have a dv6 product number A1U57AV.  BIOS F.19  Win7 64
After many chats with support, I wanted to put my findings out, and ask if anyone has found any solutions to this issue.  I was trying to upgrade my Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 WLAN card with the Intel 6230 Advanced N card.  It states in the manual that my motherboard and chipset should support this card.  I ordered the 6230 from Amazon.com, and it didn't work.  I figured I had a non-genuine part, and returned it.  I was rooked into ordering the same card for nearly 4x the price from HP Parts.  I did so, and found that the same WLAN hardware configuration error 702 came up before the win7 boot page even came up.
I found through investigation that the part numbers of the hardware are on a whitelist in the BIOS, and if the configuration fits the restrictions, the hardware will work.  Unfortunately, I found that there was a mistake in the recording of the part numbers for the WLAN hardware. The 6230 is listed instead with a duplicate 1030 part number.  The correct part numbers are as follows:
Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 WLAN module 631956-001
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 636672-001
The 1030 card is not cutting it for me, and is ruining what is otherwise, an outstanding laptop.  It's like having training wheels on a Cadillac.  All that would be needed is to insert the correct part number into the BIOS program code, and I am off to the races!
Can anyone help me?  Anyone have anything better to tell me than support did?  How do I get this problem to the engineering/programmer level of support?  So many questions.
    Thanks in advance!

Can i upgrade HP Pavilion dv6-6170ee to 16 GB RAM?

    Hi,
The following link shows its specs:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02982007
8GB is the max. BUT Crucial says for a similar machine:
        http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP-memory/Pavilion+DV6+Series/Pavilion+dv6-6170us-upgrades.html
    but not the following:

Confusion isn't it. To be at the safe side, I would follow the specs.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Graphics Upgrade

    Hello ladies & gentlemen,
I'm the proud owner of a HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook. The only flaw I've found is that it doesn't have a good video performance (which is a shame for a having an 720p HD display). The graphics device installed is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
How can I upgrade my Notebook graphics and video processing?
If you need any more information in order to answer my question, please tell me.
    Thanking beforehand,

    Hi,
For all practical purposes, it's not possible to upgrade your graphics device as the graphics chip is physically soldered to the Motherboard of your notebook.
    Best wishes,

  • Dv6-1122us, upgrade confusion? SSD an option for me?

Ok, I've recently ran a system test in BIOS for the HDD.  Short test>passed Long test>failed (almost immediatly).  I spoke with HP support and they were awesome.  I have a new drive on the way, no cost to me at all.  While chatting with the tech I asked if i could upgrade to a faster & larger drive.  Well that was out of the question but he also told me that I couldn't get a faster drive, only larger.  Currently i have a 5400rpm 320G drive.  He told me I could go to a 5400rpm 500G, my user manual states that there are 7200rpm models that go in this dv6-1122us.  So
Question #1: Can I install a 7200rpm drive in this laptop that is on my user manual parts list? Or maybe a SSD?
Or are these user manuals not very specific, covering many different models of the dv6?
If so how can i find specific upgrade options for my laptop?
If there is not enough information here to make a wise decision just let me know!
    Thanks in advance!!

16GB RAM upgrade + an SSD upgrade (biggest wallet can afford).
However, if it is a 13" model, there is an inescapable wall, since those carry just a single GPU and share the video memory with the rest of the apps. 15" and 17" models have a  higher powered, separate and autoswitching GPU and up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

  • [pavillon dv6 1200sl] Upgrade with SSD 256GB

    Hi all,
i have this notebook pavillon dv6 1200sl [ bit.ly/1b4DvNz ] from many year, now is the time to make an upgrade!
I'd like to change the HDD with a new SSD drive.. what kind of disc can I buy?
Any suggestion will be really apprecieted

I would not recommend an SSD you could not use. And the driver Manual shows step by step how to install a new hard drive. If the computer is running fine then, in Windows, use the HP Recovery Manager to burn restore DVDs and use them to reinstall software on the SSD when you get it. Go ahead and make the recovery DVD(s) and order the SSD and let us know when you are ready to proceed. If you have a storage disk I can also suggest making a Windows Easy Transfer Archive in order to transfer files and settings after you get Windows reinstalled on the SSD. It is also possible to do an exact disk clone to make the SSD work just like the existing drive, but that will take extra software and hardware.

  • Dv6-6c40us upgrade processor?

I have an HP DV6-6c40us and would like to upgrade my current processor to a better one. I am inquiring if this is even possible. I have consulted the manual and it appears that the processor can be upgraded.
    Current specs:
    Win 7 ultimate
    6GB RAM
    AMD A8 3520M
    This question was solved.

The price of SSDs has come down and continues to decline but if you need a 500 gig size it is going to cost at least 50 cents a gig.  Maybe consider a hybrid drive; you can get a 500 gig for $75, or about third of what an SSD would cost:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178339
No A10 processor is supported. A8-3550MX is the fastest one listed in the Manual, which you probably need:
    Manual
Sometimes CPUs not listed in the manual will work but it is a bit of a long shot. CPU upgrades are not officially supported and if you ask HP directly it should not be done.

    Hi,
I have ordered a FHD cable from China for a Dv6-7000 but it uses a different part number and the product number (50.XY...) is also different. You have to look for a LCD cable 50.4RN10.022.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-LVDS-Cable-for-HP-Pavilion-DV6-6000-FHD-656805-001-50-4RN10-022-/1813516...
The thing is that most of the suppliers use the LVDS 50.... product numbers and not part numbers like HP. It took me hours to find the right product number for my Dv6.

  • Pavilion dv6 - 2090er - upgrade wireless card "b/g" to "n".

I have HP Pavilion dv6 - 2090er and I 'd like to upgrade my wireless card "b/g" to "n". What a model of wireless card is compatible to my system

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01860375.pdf
Supported wireless cards can be found in Chapter 3, starting on page 3-6.
If I were you, I would get the Broadcom 4322AGN 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi Adapter with the applicable HP part # depending on what country you live in.
That is a dual band (2.5/5.0 GHz card).
You must get the card with the HP part # on it, or it will not work.
I like to get used but tested and working cards on eBay. So a search by the part number.
Or you can order new from HP at the link below.

It comes with 8 gb of RAM which is maxed. The CPU is fast already and an upgrade would not be worth it. The video cannot be changed. The hard drive could be replaced by an SSD and that is going to be a very noticeable upgrade. I personally have had great luck with Samsung 840 SSDs, either the Evo or the Pro series. The Evo is mainstream and the Pro is kind of pricey. But there are a lot of very good SSDs out there. If you need any more help post back.

    Please reply ASAP

In your laptop, a pair of either would be supported. Since you have an Intel processor your laptop can handle up to 16 gigs of memory, 2 x 8 gig DDR3-1333mhz SO-DIMM.
    Your Service Manual
    See Pages 5-6.
You are better off running two identical size and speed modules so it will be dual channel

i just want to know is it possible to upgrade my laptop's (DV6-7040tx) ram to 16 gb ddr3 ? i m not into much technical stuff so if you guys can recommend the best option available for my laptop ,it will be awesome

    Hi,
    Currenntly it has 4+2 therefore you can't get 8+6. You can have 2 + 2, 4+ 2, 4+4, 8+ 2, 8+4 and 8+8 configuration. In this case, you can have 4+4 (throw away 2Gb) or 8 + 4 (also throw away 2Gb) or 8+8 (throw away both).
