i bought this dv6-1253cl from costco and i tried to upgrade the RAM.i bought 2x4 gb RAM from ebay and installed into my laptop
ddr 2667mhz. the ram work fine on other laptops that i got but when i install the thing into my laptop, first it run perfectly and then crash ramdomly
it boot, the RAM work fine, bios ram test ok, BUT WHEN I RAN THE LAPTOP FOR 30 mins it crash again.
i tried everything including remove and swap place between 2 piece of ram.
the mainboard of my laptop is PM45 and there is nothing wrong with it.

Hi,
Does your upgrade ram match the compatible RAM that HP and all major memory manufacturers list on their websites?
Are the memory sticks identical or did you mix them with your original RAM?  That is usually a no go.
FYI...If your OS is 32-bit then all you will see your OS able to use is @3.25GB ofRAM. That is a 32-bit Microsoft Operating system Architecture issue. It is called PAE.

  • Upgraded ram to 8gb but only show 4gb free?

So i upgraded my 2011 late macbook pro to 8gb but it shows that only about 3.5ish to 4ish gb to be free. I had OS X Yosemite 10.10 installed as well. Please help me out!!

Agreed, for the most part: RAM is the fastest medium to keep and process data, so the more is used, the faster your machine will work. Caching/writing to disk (even an SSD), on the other hand...
Now, about those "memory cleaning" apps: there are the good ones, that actually clear inactive memory based on real alloc/malloc instructions left by running apps, and those, not so good, that will clean indiscriminately, shaving at the top, so to speak.
One good app that will work, though in your case it's pretty useless, given the total amount of RAM on your machine, is Purge; you can also invoke the "purge" command in Terminal every once in a while if you want, but it's not going to change the face of the Earth...

  • New Quad-Core Computer with Vista64, 8gb ram ; Should I install CS3 or CS4?

    Hello Friends,
I have been reading the forum trying to gain foresight before I spend very limited cash for hardware and software.
On Black Friday eve, I spent the night waiting at Best Buy to get the door-buster-deal on an HP desktop with AMD 9500 quad-core, 8gb ddr2 800MHz ram, Windows Vista 64 Home Premium, 760gb hard drive (7200rpm, ESATA 3.0gb transfer), second internal capture drive 500gb(7200rpm ESATA 3.0gb transfer), 1 TB external storage. This machine is only for my photography and video editing. I do wedding photography.
I have photoshop CS3 full version, so I can upgrade to CS4 Creative Suite for $1,100.00. I can also buy a full version copy of CS3 Creative Suite for $500.00 new in the box with all manuals.
With all the complaints about CS4, would I be better off buying CS3? Is CS4 worth $600 more? Have all the bugs been worked out of CS3?
I can upgrade 3 months after they release CS 5 for the $600 and skip some of the heart ache?
Please tell me what you think?
    Jeffrey

Any option (CS3, CS4 or waiting for CS5 in 16-18 months) are all logical options for various reasons.
For you though, you might get the best mileage out of CS4, as there are certain advantages when running on Vista 64 (versus CS3, for which very little was done to take advantage of the extra features of Vista 64). In particular, Photoshop will run a 64-bit app on Vista 64. Premiere Pro also has some additional functionality on Vista 64.
CS5 should probably bring more full-fledged 64-bit apps, and better features in general (or at least one would hope). but it's not likely to be released or announced even until Q1 2010.

  • MBP sometimes shows 4GB sometimes 8GB RAM

    hi all.
I have a 17" macbook pro (MacBookPro5,2) - a while ago I upgraded from the stock RAM to 8GB (2x 4GB Crucial RAM). It was all great for months .. now I notice that the mac is only showing 4GB. I opened up the mac and reset the RAM and then turned it back on and it shows 8GB ... then after I close the lid and it goes to sleep I then open it up again and it is back to 4GB. It does this pretty much everytime - I manually take out the RAM and re-insert it and it goes back up to 8GB until I close the laptop.
It is always Bank 1 that is empty when the problem occurs regardless of which stick of RAM is in which slot.
Is there any way to tell if it is a dodgey slot? or if there could be something else causing this? unfortunately I don't have the stock RAM with me to try that.
    Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
    Macbookpro 17"
    Mac OSX 10.6.8

It sounds like you have identified the problem.  Bank No. 1 slot is 'dodgey'.  If this phenomenon is as consistent as you describe it, it should be easy for an Apple technician to identify it with certainty.  What the charges for repair might be, I do not know but I suggest a trip to the Apple store and then you will know.
    Ciao.

  • How To Install 2*4GB RAM=8GB Ram 1333mhz on a 13inch MacBook Pro 2.26ghz

    Hi There,
I would like to install 2*4G which is 8GB RAM with 1333mhz DDR3 on a 13inch MacBook Pro mid 2009 2.26 GHZ and the bus speed is 1067mhz, now how would I install this type of RAM or must I rather spend more money for a 1067mhz DDR3 2*4GB=8GB RAM.
    PLZ Help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to spend money and buy 1066 MHz for your Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. If you try to use 1333 MHz RAM with your Mac, it may not boot and start beeping, showing that you have incompatible RAM.
You can buy memory for your MacBook Pro in OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3

  • Late 2009 Mini with 10.6 and 8GB RAM crashes, please advise ?!

    Hi
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM and an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD. Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.
I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the 8GB Ram? The SSD runs latest firmware.
This is the log from the last crash which happened a little ago. Can anyone help please?

The Mini came with 1GB Samsung which I've upgraded to 2 x 2GB Samsung. Then after a few months I bought the 2 x 4GB OCZ which initially was ok, but after a few months the system would crash out of nowhere. So I wiped off the OS and reinstalled 10.6 After a few days my first crash appeared, which is where the logs on my first post come from.
I will keep my 4GB Samsung RAM for a few weeks and if no errors appear then it was most probably because of the RAM. I believe there is some incompatibility between the Mini and some memory chips as the memory itself come out clean from Memtest86 and has lifetime warranty as well.

  • P55 GD 80 - only sees 4GB of 8GB RAM - G.Skill F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD

I have just built a system with  aP55 GD 80 - and it only sees 4GB of the installed 8GB RAM.  I have not yet installed an OS, I am just POSTing and going into BIOS, and BIOS says there are 4GB physical memory.
This is G.Skill F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD memory, (4 sticks of 2GB each).
I upgraded the BIOS to 1.5 and it made no difference.
Also, interestingly, if I only run 2 sticks, it sees 2GB instead of 4GB (regardless of which 2 sticks) -- so it's as if it thinks each stick is just 1 GB.
Can anybody give me pointers of what I might be able to do about this?
I've read that some people are trying newer beta BIOS versions (newer than 1.5) to resolve memory problems - where can I download those?
    thanks a bunch!

    Dont buy the wrong RAM 2 x (2x2GB) for 8GB use !
    Charges can be different.
Thats the right way. Buy 8GB kits only guys!!!(for every P55 system)->
    example:
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a486589.html
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a486985.html
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a454453.html
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a453903.html
    Bios shows 4GB(2) instead 8(4)GB:
Test every module with memtest 4.0 on errors http://www.memtest.org/  2hours !!!
Put CPU out, control your socket pins, mount cooler and look if 8GB function is proper, control RAM socket.
Flash newest Beta .173  with only 1 or 2 RAM sticks http://msi-forum.de/index.php?page=Thread&postID=727333#post727333 (you must register in forum,or ask a mod here in the HQ forum for Beta
.173) , now put all 4 modules in the RAM bank, cmosclear.
    merry xmas

  • Battery life diminished from 7Hs to 3Hs after a 4Gb- 8Gb RAM Upgrade. MacBook i5 Late 2011 Os 10.7.5

I upgraded RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb on a 3 months-old MacBook Pro. Before that, my battery used to last 6-7hs and now it hardly lasts 3.5Hs
I also noticed that the cooler almost never stops, and the computer feels HOT.
As a developer, I give the Mac an instensive use, runing an Oracle database within a Windows XP (I'm sorry) virtual machine with VMWare.
At the same time I run Oracle Reports and Oracle SQL Developer on the MAC side and TeamViewer to connect to my remote customers' servers.
Before upgrading RAM, the memory usage used to be 100% and the performance was poor. Now the performance is much better, the memory usage is around 75% but the battery is much weaker. Shouldn't be the other way around, as now the hard disk RAM pagination should be less?
Is that normal???? What can I do, other than going back to 4Gb and see what happens? Will it help if I upgrade to Mountain Lion?
    Thank you!!

I am worried I am having the exact same problem with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro. I purchased an SSD from Crucial as well as two 8GB RAM sticks, which upgraded my RAM from a total of 4 GB to a total of 16 GB. I swapped the drive and RAM when I received my order in late February. Now, just a couple of weeks later, I am experiencing issues. The fan seems to be running a lot more often, and yesterday my MacBook went haywire. I took some video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQrcv0iU3Ic I ran the apple hardware test (the basic one, not the extended one) and it did not find any issues. These are the things I purchased: CT5419725 CT512MX100SSD1.PK01 UPGRADE FOR A APPLE MACBOOK PRO (13-INCH, EARLY 2011) SYSTEMandCT3373717 CT2K8G3S1339M.000 UPGRADE FOR A APPLE MACBOOK PRO (13-INCH, EARLY 2011) SYSTEM If the 2011 MacBooks can't handle 16GB of RAM, I'd like to return it and do 8 instead. Before I purchased the RAM, I did some reading online, and it seemed that 16GB would be OK, but now I'm not so sure. kate

I have upgraded my MacBook Pro 15 late 2011 to 8Gb RAM, now when I go to about this mac in it more info it doesn't show AMD graphics card as it used to before, it just show  Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB is that a problem that I need to worry about?
and in system report >> hardware >> Graphics/Display >> it shows both grafics card listed.

Some Mac's when the RAM is increased the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics will bump itself up to the higher video RAM it takes, this seems to be what occured.
It also means the dedicated graphics card will be used less, but only so slightly less.
You obviously still should have both, you can test this by turning off Graphics Switching in Energy Saver, that will use the decicated AMD card all the time.
You can also run Cinebench and compare the scores here

  • Intel Core i5 or i7 and 4GB ram or 8GB ram for school usage and gaming Football Manager 2013

    Hi all,
I'm considering bying the new Macbook Air 13'' but i'm confused whether to go for the Intel Core i5 og i7 processor and with 4GB ram or 8GB ram? I will use it for school stuff, web browsing and for gaming Football Manager 2013. Which one should I go for?

i5 should be able to handle it, however as you know MBA isn't a gaming laptop. So you can't expect the best results. Will it run smoothly? Reading some of the reviews, it's not that terrible. However if you play football manager often I would upgrade to the i7. For occasional gaming, I would definitely stick with i5 because of better battery.
Tbh, I'm not much of a gamer. But I use Final Cut Pro, photoshop, and do other type of intense tasks.
I decided to go with the i5 for myself and spend the $150 on something else (like external drive, monitor).
Anyways to answer your question, it depends on how often you play. If you play 24/7 the upgrade will be worth it.
But for occasional gaming, again I would stick for better battery :)
(But external battery can be purchased vs you won't be able to upgrade to i7.... Just a random thought..)

  • Aperture 3.0.1 Crashing...iMac I7 with 8GB RAM

I upgraded from Aperture 2.0 to v3.0, and then today to v3.0.1. The version is crashing every few minutes. The previous v2.0 was very stable. The software is running on iMac I7 with 8GB RAM. This is one of the worst software I have ever used. Apple should be ashamed of launching a buggy product.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with this particular plug-in (I don't even use Smugmug), so please take this as a general comment.
It's not uncommon for older plug-ins to crash newer versions of the application for which they were originally written. They might partially work, but when you carry out a particular action, they'll cause unexpected behaviour. This is because, for example, assumptions made about the host application when the plug-ins were written are no longer valid with the new version comes out and conflicts arise. It's been 'common' with third-party plug-ins for Safari in the past.
    - +"This new version of Safari is buggy rubbish!!!"+
    - +"No it's not - it's your (now) old plug-ins!!!"+
Once identified, the solution is usually to uninstall the offending plug-in and wait for the author/publisher to release an updated version.
The best way to rule out the possibility of the plugin being at fault is to remove it temporarily. The first step is to Quit from your host application - Aperture in this case. The second step is to go to the plug-ins folder(s) and remove anything in there. To ease reinstalling a plugin in case it's found to be innocent, you could, for example, drag it out to the desktop - rather than deleting it. It can then be dragged back in later on. The path is
          /Users/ your-home-directory /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins
There might also be plug-ins installed at the global equivalent folder:
          /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins
Of course, sometimes you can get multiple problems and solving one might still leave other +undesirable behaviour+ occurring and requiring further trouble-shooting.
    Hope this helps...
    Gary

  • Brand New Lenovo Y5070 (I7 4270HQ/8GB RAM/Geforce 960M 4GB) - All Freeze, Sound Continue!

Hello Support, Last evening I bought this high-end model of Y5070 in Chiang Mai as I spend a month here now:(I7 4270HQ/8GB RAM/Geforce 960M 4GB) I am Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Edition User and while it works fine for most I've this strange issue. I've installed today fresh Windows 10 build 10130 (latest build), some drivers were missing so I used Lenovo drivers CD to install the win 8.1 drivers (Microsoft suggest to use Win 8.1 drivers on Win 10). All works good besides, it has random freeze, everything freeze, but youtube/music keep singing and it will stay like this until i click POWER button on the laptop then after a minute it goes sleep and when it wakes up all fine again. I did installed 100% fresh win 10 setup.  If this issue is due to Win 10 I can go and install win 7 or 8.1. But it sounds not very normal to me since i dont see other win 10 users having this issue. Please assist me asap as long as I am here in Thailand/Chiang Mai and still can go to store for replacement if needed. Thank you so muchRoman

when the screen freezes and the audio is still playing i would look at the gfx card drivers

use driver sweeper to remove the old drivers then start with the top one and test each one and see if any improve or fix it

  • MBP Retina 13" (late 2013) 4GB RAM vs 8GB RAM

    Hello,
I am thinking about upgrading my current MacBook to the newest MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display (base model: 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD). However, I want this computer to last for 3-3.5 years. Therefore, I am wondering how much difference does it make to have 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB? I am on tight budget so additional 200EUR for 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is very debatable (there is no option to get only 8GB RAM configuration).
My daily usage is very light, however: (1) I'd like to be able to play games like SimCity or Civ5, (2) sometimes I need to use "heavy" apps like IBM SPSS, (3) rarely I like to use photo editing apps.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks guys!

Look at the influence of RAM and SSD on processing CPU intensive applications in this display:
Note that once you have SSD, RAM becomes less important to performance.   Personally If the bank account is thin, 4GB RAM will serve you well.  Only in very High CPU intensive applications will it take longer but they will run.  Unless yo have another MBP with 8 GB RAM next to you, you will not notice the difference.
    Ciao.

  • 8GB ram vs 4GB ram

At what point will i need 8gb ram?  Id like to be prepared for any usage heavy applications/os/etc that may come out in the next 3 years or so, but do not want to spend money if I do not have to.  I am hoping to get a list that states what sort of things the 4gb air will max out on as well as the 8gb.  Also, how bid of a HD do I need as well as processor.
    My two choices are:
    1) 11" air 128GB SSD 4GB
    2) 11" air 256GB SSD 8GB
There is a $500 difference.  I will be surfing the web, excel documents, music, some photo fun (but not much editing...once a month tops), and would like the option for HD movies BUT this alone is not worth $500 additional in my mind.  I have looked a lot of places for weeks now.  I have bought the first option to try it out and the only time I lagged was when I was importing all my pictures from Time Capsule to the new air.
I am going insane looking for a good reason to go with either option:
    1) less money & can upgrade in 3 years and not feel bad
    2) covers my butt 3 years from now & don't have to upgrade...
****When will I need 8GB?  When in SAM H*** will I NEED 8GB even if it is a year from now...I just want to know if I should play option two to be safe.****

Your price comparison between these two models is a bit unreasonable. The majority of that $500 is in the form of the upgrade in SSD capacity from 128 to 256 GB of storage. The RAM upgrade from 4 to 8 GB is only $100. As Linc said, it's impossible to know what the future will hold for computing and when 4 GB becomes inadequate but if history is indication it's a lot sooner than you think.
Personally, given the fact that there's numerous ways to increase available storage capacity on a computer (cloud storage, external drives, SD cards, USB thumb drives, etc.), you can easily work around low internal storage space. But the RAM you configure in the machine is the maximum it'll have, ever. Not to mention, RAM is one of those things that you can never have enough of, so why not max it out? Especially if in the future you decide that you want more out of your computer or want to get more than 3 years of daily usability.
