Dv6 2129el Cpu upgrade list

It is possible to upgrade the cpu of a dv6 2129el and in case which are the compatible cpu?
I found this: support manual
but this does not list my cpu so i don't know if it is reliable or not.
(mine is a i5 m430)
Thanks a lot!

Hello Simol87.  I understand you're wondering if you can upgrade your CPU.
It is possible but usually not a very easy upgrade.  You will face problems such as locating a supported CPU (this information is often not readily available).  It is possible that you'd also need to replace the cooling system and the power supply as well as the stock parts might not be able to handle the upgraded CPU.  If you would like to upgrade your notebook for better performance you'd likely be better off looking to a Solid State Drive or adding more RAM.  A CPU upgrade on a notebook is not suggested.
I hope this helps.  Have a great day!

I want to upgrade my dv6-1390 CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66) to i7. Is this possible?

but shall I pay attention to other things such as software or hardware compatibility?

currently my ram is 4gb, which i can only use 3 of hence the upgrade to the 64 bit os soon
i will be upgradeing to 8gb ram,
just wondering what are my cpu upgrade options? would rather get the most out of this laptop, cant afford to buy a new one, willing to put about €100 into this

    Hi:
I am not an expert on AMD processors.
If you think the ZM isn't a whole lot better (you need to look at the specs more than just the speed), then I wouldn't do it.
The speed isn't a whole lot different and the L2 cache is the same.
Normally the faster processors will run hotter when all else is equal (voltage, etc).
Upgrading the memory is the cheapest, easiest route to a better performing PC.
And definitely keep the vents and fan clean of lint and dust as much as possible.

  • Dv6-6c01ev CPU upgrade?

Hi there i have an dv6-6c01ev (i5-2450m Sandy bridge , HM65 chipset, rPGA-988B Socket). In the manual says that i7-2720m is supported as an upgrade also in a lot of lists (intel etc) therefore i want to be quite sure before i buy one, even though i found it for a fair price (around 120$), cause it might not be supported by the BIOS and also my current CPU is 35W dual core and the i7 that i found is an 45W quad core one so the question is beside socket and chipset will be working or not? I dont have the motherboard serial number cause maybe after upgrade the ram the sticker went off but i can post the laptop's : 2CE2151XT6, Product: A7P28EA#B1A, REV:17FA-210. By the way the Bios is VersionF.1C if it helps.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Intel Core i5-580M is definitely compatible as it takes 35W (same as the original Core i3). I believe that even Core i7-720QM, 740QM, 820QM and 840QM are compatible but they require a different heat sink/fan (part number is 604787-001).

Make sure and buy the newest model available.
Don't by used and stay away from eBay.
Old models can be unreliable and the new improvements on newer models have made them much more reliable.
Stick to a good brand name with a good warranty like Crucial or Kingston for example.
I have an older Samsung in my dv8 and a very new Kingston in my new desktop and both have been good _ so far.
Probably the best thing to do when you install your SSD is to simply use you W8 disc to install the OS from scratch, enter your product key _ then upgrade to W8.1.
Sometimes creating a back up image of an OS and then trying to install it on a new drive can be problematic, even more so when it comes to W8/8.1.

  • AMD Athlon 64 3800+ cpu upgrade to AMD Athlon 64 X2

    Hello everyone,
First of all, I have been to cpu-upgrade.com and typed in my current (CPU)--> AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz (motherboard)--> ASUS A8M2N-LA (Naos) GL6.
According to the website, my AM2 Socket (940pin) is capable of upgrading to a Dual Core, Anyone know if that site is accurate or not? Any help would be nice. I need to get away from this single core.
    1) Some CPU models require a BIOS upgrade, which a BIOS upgrade for this board is not available.
    2) A lot of X2 Dual Cores work either using a 4400+, 4600+, and so on....
I do have a 550watt PSU installed, also I am using MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 PCI-express 16x graphics, not using onboard.
I have read that some BIOS' upgrades terminate the onboard video, is that true? Basically, whatever I already have installed is current and up to date with all video/sound drivers, etc... If anybody very knowledgable knows for sure if an AMD Athlon 64 X2 will work in my system that would be nice. My specs below......
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit)
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz
    RAM: 2GB (GDDR2)
PSU: 550watt (all 20+4 for main cable to motherboard connected using all 24 pins + 4pin connector for CPU? I believe.
Sound: Realtek HD ALC888 High Definition Audio
Video: MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 (GDDR3 with 2GB Video Memory).
Only thing I am bottle necking on is the CPU, and I would love to upgrade to Dual Core, once again, thank you for the help.

  • K9NGM - board version 1.1 NOT 1.1a... CPU Upgrade Qs

    Hi
I want to upgrade my cpu to the fastest it can take. I have the 1.1 version mobo and everything I have read talks about 1.1a. I've read through many many posts but can not find any ref to the earlier mobo so I am a bit worried!
    Some questions please:
1- exactly what cpus can my, earlier, mobo take?
2 - do i need to update my bios?
3 - if humanly possible i don't want to reinstall windows (running xp pro 32bit) so what are my choices?
4 - is there a simple guide anywhere to help me through it?
    Thanks in advance

It already has been answered few times till now:

"From the list referred to earlier which are the 89w ones?"
Look here for the list as Aaron already link: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=256&maincat_no=1#menu
Watts are listed per each CPU, its listed which one is supported and which one is not.
"Do i need to change my XP if i install a dual core processor?"
What you mean? If you mean to re-install XP: Usually no, but depend sometimes works other time not.
"I had understood that my mobo will only take a cpu up to 89w anyway! "
No, 89W and below, check the CPU Compatibility list again: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=256&maincat_no=1#menu
"Do I not have to do a completely fresh install of XP if i change to a dual core?"
If you able to swap HAL mode then no, else do a new fresh installation

At last, a clear answer from MSI, after 6 months of waiting
MSI Prescott CPU Support List (FSB800, 1M L2)
    Chipset_Model Board_Name  BIOS_Version  Prescott_Support
    Intel® 875P 875P Neo-LSR/-FIS2R AMI 1.8 YES

  • G42 cpu upgrade

I have a G42 1415dx with the S1 p340 CPU.  i really like the the laptop, and want to get as much as i can out of it.  Most questions about CPU upgrades advise to consult the service manual.  The manual lists several CPUs for AMD processor boards.  Will ANY faster CPU with a comparable voltage work?    Any recommendations?

    Hi,
This is not going to work, the P340 is a 25w chip and the N640 is a 35w chip. You need to use the SAME TDP value to be able to get it up and running.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum - Best CPU upgrade for under £200 please?

    Hi there,
I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2ghz running on this board. The BIOS is the latest etc. I am now wanting to upgrade the CPU on this. I run everything at normal settings... don't overclock etc.
Not sure what I can go to with it and was wondering if anyone can advise please?
Budget for CPU upgrade is £200... any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gazza.
PS: Not sure if other specs are required but here goes:
    2 X 512MB PC3200 184 pin DDR400 (was thinking of just buying another 2 x 512MB)
2 x 80GB Segate SATA HDD 8MB CACHE (was thinking of buying a Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA HDD 16MB CACHE)
256MB Radeon X800XT Platimun AGP Graphics Card (keeping this)

Check out this very brief thread of mine:
    http://80.190.215.245/index.php?topic=103825.0
...If your 3500 is a 90nm San Diego core, there's really nothing new for you there.
If it's an earlier core, though, you might have difficulty in supporting all four 512mb DIMMs at 200/400MHz.  The San Diego 3700+ core I just bought to replace my 130 nm A64 4000+ has the same 1mb L2 cache as the A4000+ it replaced, but an improved memory controller which will support 4 double-sided 512mb DIMMs in this motherboard at full speed of 400MHz DDR.  The 3700+ is 90nm, and is simply generally a better core in terms of errata, power consumption, and, if you ever feel the need to experiment, overclocking.  I would imagine you should be able to pick one up at < 200 pounds, your cost (my keyboard doesn't have a "pound" key...)
My last post in the thread mentions what bios version you should run with this cpu.
Also, unlike the Newcastle or Winchester A3500+ cores, the A3700+ San Diego 90nm core supports SSE3 intructions.  Here's an article you might care to read describing some differences between the A3500+ Newcastle and Winchester cores:

Here's a current link to the 3700+ cpu for sale:

Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated. However a lot of that has just gone right over my head I'm afraid :(
Do I have to strip the PC to find out which processor I have? The invoice I still have for the PC does not state what type it was. This was not a home built PC and was purchased from an online store in the UK.
I have a list from the MSI site of processors that this MB is supposed to take. Am I right in saying that I could install an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Skt939 2.4Ghz 512KB Processor?
Once again many thanks for your help.

  • Pavilion g6-1262sa CPU upgrade v2, Sandy Bridge = Ivy Bridge?

Hi, thanks to the Pavilion g6-1262sa maintenance and servicing manual and this magnificient forum I've recently found out that replacing my i3-2330m is possible with all sandy bridge processors up to i7-2620m.
Theese questions may sound silly but I continued my research and I've got couple more ideas to confront with reality.
I do realise that compatibility is not only matter of fitting the same socket but also bios installed on certain motherboard, however:
    1. Do you think it would be possible to swap Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) i3-2330m for some Ivy Bridge (3rd gen) i5 -3210m?
    2. Is the 32nm to 22nm manufacturing technology enough difference on it's own (even if the rest of architecture is the same) to prevent this from working?
    3. Is bios of my g6 motherboard somehow identyfying installed processor? (if it's not on "the list" it will simply not run?" or is it only technical compatibility matter?
According to some statements which I found on some IT forums and sites (and some self researched facts):
Socket: both processors are compatible with BGA1023 socket. (at least that's what I found, if someone could confirm I would be grateful)
Architecture difference: "The 3rd generation is called "Ivy Bridge," and is basically a copy of Sandy Bridge manufactured on a smaller scale, or die. However, Intel also focused on beefing up the integrated graphics in this generation."
    TDP: both are 35 W
Cores: both are 2 physical (4 Virtual - thanks to hyperthreading I guess?)
Power consumption: "the Ivy Bridge CPUs also use less power", "Ivy Bridge consumes a little less power; around 10w i think."
    Temperature: i5 -3210m goes 5*C higher than i3-2330m - shouldn't do much difference
Looking forward to some replies, RacA

It is not a technical (socket) incompatibility since as you likely know Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge are backward compatible on most desktop motherboards. However, HP has only implemented 2d gen Intel Core processor compatibility on the HM65 Express chipset which yours has. Motherboards that will support 3rd gen CPUs use the HM77 chipset. There is no other motherboard that will fit in your chassis.
Your analysis above, which was pretty good, left out the chipset, which you always have to think about when assessing upgrade possibilities:

The HM65 does support a couple 3rd gen CPUs but none of them is on HP's list for your model. You could try one of the ones listed in the link I gave but I think there is a very small chance they will work.
