DV6-2177 Right Mouse Button (touchpad) not working.

I've got a dv6-2177, 3 months old and the right mouse button isn't working.  When I right click, there is no context menu that shows up.  I've reloaded the pointing device drivers but it doesn't solve the problem.  Any external mouse that I connect will work fine but the built in right button is useless.
Any idea what the problem is?

I have the same issue. It has been driving me nuts for months. I have tried everything, and done a LOT of research. The left click brings on the context menu on the desktop and in a few other instances. The right click does not work AT ALL... even if you try to set it up as a tap-a-touch feature (so it is not the hardware), and also the windows lose focus, until you hit the start menu key, or control alt delete, if it is being really stubborn. I have an HP G7... only 6 months old. HP or Synaptic needs to fix this!! It makes my laptop almost useless and definitely frustrating to use!!

  • In Mail my right mouse button will not work

    I have a three-button mouse that worked flawlessly in Mavericks. It still works with Netnewswire, but not Mail.
    When I see a link I want to explore I use the right-click button to decide if I want to open a new a new Tab or a new Window.
    It shows those options (and others) in Mail - but does nothing.

    Check the System Preferences > Mouse settings to be sure they are correct for a three button mouse.  Check the Mail > Preferences to see if a mouse preference appears for you.  There is not one for my MagicMouse but the secondary click, aka right click, for my Magic Mouse works fine in Mail.

    I am using a 24 inch imac and the problem is suddenly my mouse can not click to anything left, right or the middle mouse button does not work i can see cursor moving and i can use the features of the keyboard but my mouse dies. I tried to plug in another mouse magic trackpad and my tablet but each has the same problem. I can not click to anything but cursor is moving and computer is not frozen. I have to shut it off from the power button when this happens. Do you have any idea what can cause this and how can i fix this?

    if you use the portal content studio
    content-administration > portal-content
    you can configure the portal objects by browsing them and clicking the right mouse button.
    That worked but now the mouse button doesn't work - left mouse button works as expected (with left mouse button one can navigate through the objects, iViews, working sets, etc...).
    Right mouse button does nothing, portal objects could not be edited. Of course, the mouse is Ok.

    [BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
    I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
    Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
    I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
    EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
    EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • Auto-scoll (middle mouse button) gone/not working in Firefox 20/Windows 7 64-bit?

    duplicate of [/questions/956896]
    I recently upgraded both my work PC and my home PC to Firefox 20.0.1. My work PC (Win XP 32-bit) works fine, but my home PC (Win 7 64-bit) no longer allows me to auto-scroll when I click the middle mouse button (it does nothing). I have tried restarting Firefox with all addons disabled, as well as a totally fresh install, but haven't had any luck. To clarify, the mouse wheel itself still works as it should, it's just clicking it in to auto-scroll that's the problem.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Remapped mouse buttons do not work in CS 5?

    Remapped mouse button functionality works fine in some programs ( Bridge, Dreamweaver, Soundbooth )
    But act non-existant in others ( Photoshop, Illustrator )
    My experience is with an Intellimouse optical and intellipoint software ( newest drivers for win 7 )
    Win 7 x86
    Anyone have a similar experience with cs5
    And/or know of a registry setting?

    I created a
    new Windows account and the problem went away
    remapped buttons work fine in the new account. Doubt it was preferences as I didn't have time to set any.
    What I "DID" do however was to customize my remapped buttons by hacking the intellipoint registry settings.
    intellipoint doesn't support spacebar in it's remapping list
    if you want MMB panning functionality so u don't suffer navigation dyslexia
    when switching between apps ( "most 3D apps" )  the
    acsii for space is "20" .
    not having to relearn mmb panning muscle memory makes one very productive.
    the best UI is your UI
    someday there will be  a common objectn/viewport navigation "standard".
    ( deviation from... punishable by something truly horrible )
    Otherwise why can't everything just be customizable?
    ( can I assign mmb to the"interactive" hand instead of the "hardcoded" spacebar yet? )
    either way...
    I hacked my registry once again. Just like before but remapping is still working fine in the new account.
    I guess I'll just delete that old account.

  • Flash mouse buttons sometimes not working

    Sometimes in Flash applications, it doesn't listen to left mouse button clicks on button controls anymore. Does anyone know a solution for this that actually works?
    Many people report this problem with Youtube movies, but personally I'm a Newgrounds.com Flash game gamer, so it's even more annoying to me.
    Thanks.

    See the Wiki page which has a section on this problem.
    (There is also this is from the Ubuntu bugtracker. but I think most of the workarounds would apply to Arch as well.)
    If I'm not mistaken, however, this only affects those running 32-bit flash on a 64-bit system with a wrapper. Consider installing the new beta native 64-bit flashplayer  Adobe recently released (flashplugin-prerelease in AUR). Discussion here.

  • Inside the browser, right click on the mouse seems to be disabled. How can I enable the right click button? It works fine on toolbars and tab bar but not inside tabs or windows. I would like to be able to copy and paste and such. Thank you

    Right mouse button does not open any menu when clicked inside of tabs or windows. Works properly on the toolbars, in the address line, search bar...etc. but has no action on the page I'm browsing. I purchased a mouse recently and like the old one, the right button works in all other areas of my operating system. I would like to know if there is a setting in firefox that I can change to correct this.

    There are also websites that can disable the right-click context menu.

    i think it's worth trying to remove all input related stuff from xorg.conf, enable hotplugging with a /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi similar to this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
    <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.AlwaysCore" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.VertEdgeScroll" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.MaxTapTime" type="string">180</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.FastTaps" type="string">1</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton1" type="string">1</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">2</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">3</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>

  • Touchpad not working, left click acting like right

    Hi - I apologize if this was already asked, but I couldn't find it. I have a G Series laptop (I'm at work so I don't have the specifics on me) and as of Friday night, out of nowhere, the touchpad stopped functioning properly. All clicks responded as if I had was right clicking. Needless to say, this was annoying. I tested all of my touchpad settings, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried new drivers, rolled back drivers, system restore, etc. and nothing worked. When I plug in a USB mouse, it still works perfectly, if that helps at all. But whenever I used the left click below the touchpad, it acts as a right click (however, the touchclick, or whatever it's called on the touchpad still works as a left click). I called and was given the advice you might expect...hard reset followed by a system recovery if that didn't work. The hard reset didn't work (big surprise), and I really don't want to lose my stuff; since I can still use the USB mouse, it's not the absolute end of the world. But I'm still irritated by it. It's a month away from the warranty being over, so I need to get moving on this. But I don't know how helpful HP is going to be with this (judging by their first bits of advice, not very). Any suggestions? This literally happened out of nowhere. I seem to remember this happening sometimes on my desktop, but that always managed to remedy itself by clicking some buttons, shutting down, etc. This time, that's not doing the trick. I'd appreciate any insight or help into this issue. Thanks very much!

    Had the same problem, what I did works just as well but it's an adjustment. Go to touchpad settings (under 'Synaptics Touchpad v6.5')then click on buttons, manual for right mouse Instead of the normal right button setting, I switched it to button completely disabled.  Now your mousepad only recognises left clicking and if you want to use the right mouse button, you lick once with the touchpad on the item you want, then click the button on the right of 'alt gr' (on the left of 'ctrl')this has the same ability. Inias
