DV6-3225dx RAM UPGRADE problem

The DV6 I bought 2 years ago has 2x2GB Samsung built-in memory, and I want to upgrade to 8GB to use virtual machines. I bought 2x4GB 1333 Mhz Kingston memory, installed them and now the problem comes. Windows boot up, but it is frozen for a while (~3sec) then restart when the logo boot screen appears. BIOS can recognizes the new RAMs. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I came back to the store where I bought these memory, asked them to check, and they are working very well. I asked them to restock these RAM and bought 2 new Patriot memory. The problem is still there. Restock again and keeps using old RAMs.
Please help.
Thank you.

To verify, does the problem go away if you use the original two sticks of RAM the system came with?
Chasing down the HP part number from page 60 of this guide, the HP part number for the 4GB stick of RAM for this system is 641369-001.  Entering the listed part number from the guide at partsurfer.hp.com indicates that 641369-001 is the replacement 4GB RAM module.  Currently, that one stick of RAM is ~$52 USD when ordering from HP.  This same memory appears to be a little cheaper from CostCentral.  The stock ram was 1333, but using 1600 memory won't cause any harm as the motherboard will just downclock the RAM to 1333.
Since a problem is present using third party RAM, I would recommend using memory that matches the part number listed from HP to ensure compatibility.  The reason for this is that there are many specifications for RAM that are not listed in the documentation, so using HP RAM would ensure it is compatible with that particular system.  You could run the start-up test (power it on and press F2 about once a second) to ensure the hardware is functional.  Since it works with the stock RAM, it seems that the base hardware is fine.

    Hi,
You should be able to install 16Gb ( 2 x 8Gb Modules ) - as a double-check, see if the System Scanner on the following site agrees.

I bought a lenovo G40 ~ 70 laptop and I wanted to upgrade my ram.It contains 4gb ram and I wanted to upgrade it to 8gb .What type of ram card should I buy and after the upgrade will my computer have problems? thank you.

    Hi Ayato,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are looking for RAM upgrade for your Lenovo G40-70 laptop.
As per the specification of this model , the maximum memory supported by this model is upto 16GB DDR3L 1600Mhz.Hence I would suggest you to look into DDR3L RAM as the RAM slots in the laptop will only support the same. And "L" in DDR3L refers to low voltage.
Click here for the model specification.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

  • DV6-2106ea RAM upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my DV6-2106ea laptop from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM, yet the system only shows it as having 4GB RAM. It has Windows 7 (64 bit) OS so should support 8 GB. I updated the BIOS from F.1A to F.1C but this has not helped. Any advise would be most welcome!
    Regards,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
    You're welcome
First of all, enter the bios menu and set the defaults ( usually f9 or f5 ) and save the change.
If the above has made no difference, remove 1 of the modules and see if the bios recognises it.  If it does, try the same module in the other slot and check again.  If the module is recognised in either slot, remove it and repeat the procedure with the other module and let me know.

  • HP G70-250CA 8GB RAM upgrade problem

I am trying to upgrade my HP G70-250CA from 6GB of RAM to 8GB, but cannot get it to work.
It is currently running fine with 6GB of RAM, configured as one 4GB and one 2GB stick. I have purchased a second 4GB stick. When I replace the 2GB stick with the second 4GB stick, the system does not boot. All I see at startup is a black screen -- it does not even show the BIOS splash screen.
Either one of the 4GB sticks works fine by itself, I tested them both, and the current configuration of 6GB works fine too. From my reading, this system should be able to support 8GB of RAM.
Any ideas what the problem might be, or further steps I could use to diagnose?

  • HP ENVY dv6-7246us SSD Upgrade, Problem Installing Windows 7 with boot from usb/dvd disc.

    Hello everyone,
I have recently purchased the dv6-7246us and have upgraded the HDD to a SSD. The problem I am having now is that I can't boot from the usb or a dvd disc that contains the Windows 7installation. Originally this laptop had an HDD with Windows 8. I have changed the boot order multiple time to boot from the USB Harddrive and the DVD/CD-ROM disc and still have no luck booting up from the installation. Is there a solution to this problem?

    Hi, Robert:
Did you go into the BIOS and change it to Legacy Mode?
I believe you need to do that in order to boot from another device other than the hard drive.

    Hi Lance
I'm sorry you cannot put single 16GB RAM in only one of the slots to upgrade your RAM. Please go through User guide of your product here . This is your product suport page . According to Page 5 of product description in the user manual, You can upgrade to maximum 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM with Dual channel configuration, i.e., each memory slots will support only upto maximum of 8GB per slot (not supported on computer models equipped with a 32- bit operating system). So you can only put 8GB in each slot to make total of 16GB RAMs in dual-channel configuartion. Hope this resolves your query.
    Thanks

  • IMac 27" Juli 2010 Model, i7 2,93 RAm Upgrade Problem

    Hi,
after running my brand new iMac 27 for a few days without any problems, I wanted to upgraded the RAM to 12 GB total, having purchased two 4 GB Samsung Mac certified RAMs from a dealer already.
I opened the thing and put the 4 GB banks into the two free slots closest to the display. After rebooting, I had to realise that the Mac only recognized 6 GB of RAM total! One 4 GB piece and one of the original 2 GB Apple ones, indicating that the other two banks were empty?¿ I took out the RAM again and was back to 4 GB of original RAM.
Now I took out all the RAM and stuck the two 4 GB pieces into the banks that the original RAMs were in. Rebootet the machine and voila, I had 8 GB of RAM. Opened the machine up one more time and stuck the original Apple RAM in the two remaining slots and after rebooting, I had the full 12 GB of RAM.
Now...is that the way it is supposed to be? And if, why would there be no mentioning of that behaviour in the manual? I have bought lots of Apple certified RAM from that dealer in the last ten years and stuck that into my other Macs and never had such a problem.
I just want to get some feedback, that if it works now, I am fine. Otherwise I could return the RAM and have them send me some in exchange.
The iMac so far is running just fine with the 12 GB of RAM.
    Some input would beappreciated, thanks!
    Peter
PS: I would call Apple support to ask, but my experience with them is, that they will just refer my to the RAm dealer, since it was not bought at the Apple store.

    Hi Roger,
well, my problem ist, that inserting the new 2x4 GB RAM modules in the two remaining slots of the iMac should have worked just fine and given me 12 GB of RAM. But it only showed 6 Gb of RAM and two empty slots, which weren't empty!
Swapping the original Apple RAM into the other two slots and using the Apple RAM slots for the new 2x4 GB RAM modules was the only way to get the iMac to give me the expected 12 GB of RAM.
So, I am still wondering, if there is a problem with the new RAM modules? It does not state in the manual, that 4 GB modules would have to be inserted in a particular slot for them to be recognized fully. It just says to stick them in the empty slots.
I knnow, it maybe a no brainer, since all seems to work fine now, but that Mac wasn't all that cheap and I don't want to risk anything.
    Cheers
    Peter

  • Ram upgrade problem!

    For: Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7047
    Upgrade from 4GB to 8GB.
Both sticks are good (memtest pass) They are the 8 block ram sticks. If I leave 1 2GB in and put a 4GB it will boot. if I put in both 4GB sticks it will not boot. I did a bios update.
    Any ideas?

It's an old story. If you surf the forums here, you'll find the same problem mentioned often. Because Toshiba machines are sensitive to specs, modules are often incompatible. Unless you buy the memory from Toshiba or the best memory made by Kingston, it's a crap shoot. Often they are compatible, but sometimes they are a bit out of spec.

  • IMac RAM upgrade - Problem with PC2-6400S-666?

    Hi, everyone -
I updgraded my iMac5,1 (according to specs found here) to 3GB RAM. Ordered the modules from Other World Computing. After installing the RAM (and reseating it numerous times) I received repeated kernel panics. (The Mac would "see" the memory as 3GB, and would run fine for a few hours, then kernel panic.)g
I have isolated the problem to the 1GB module that OWC sent me: If I replace the OEM memory that came with the Mac, it runs fine. If I run it with just the 2GB module from OWC, it runs fine. Whenever I install the 1GB module, I run into trouble.
During this process, I noticed that OWC had shipped me a 2GB module (OWC-branded, PC5300 DDR2 667MHz 200 Pin, which matches the Apple-recommended spec), but the 1GB module is (Samsung) 2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666-12-A3.
OWC is trying to tell me that this Samsung module - which they substituted because they were apparently out of stock on the 1GB OWC PC5300 modules like I ordered - has firmware that will enable it to work with my machine, but obviously for whatever reason it does not. Perhaps it is simply defective, but I am trying to get them to send me a 1GB module that matches the 2GB module (OWC, PC5300, etc) just because I am more comfortable having the modules be the same spec. (Plus, that's what I ordered; a 3GB kit that was supposed to include all one type of memory.)
Has anyone experienced problems running PC2-6400S memory in their iMac? And do you think I am being reasonable to try and insist that they send me a 1GB module that is exactly the same type as the 2GB module? (Doesn't that theoretically minimize potential problems?)
I have usually had pretty good experiences with OWC, but this has been frustrating (they have also been slow in responding to me, which is disappointing.)
Thank you for any advice or insights!
    Christina

I would absolutely insist that they exchange the incorrect stick and ship what you ordered. They are usually very good, but maybe you just got a rep who was not in the best mood? In any case, at this point, having a trail in writing would be good, so send them an email and politely but firmly insist on the correct module.

  • K8N NEO FSR MS7030 & ram upgrade problem

Hello all, i am new here and sorry in advance for my not so bad english.
Last week i bought 1gb of DDR400 PC3200 of ram, before that i had only 2 x 512 DDR400 PC3200 of ram, and everything was running fine since june 2005.
But voila, i wanted 2Gb to be able to play battlefield2 at 1280x1024 with all settings on high, so i bought this 1Gb module, it is the same "brand" , LDLC, but i know for sure they are not manufacturing it themselves, but the SPD reports the same settings for the 3 modules, 2.5-3-3-8.
The problem is that i experiment strange "lags" in battlefield2, strange because i have 70FPS average, but the gameplay is choppy, for exemple if i turn around fastly, the game freezes for microseconds but its very annoying, other than that, i get random errors in other games or programs, like cs source, firefox, winamp, photoshop, star wars battlefront2 etc...
I tested the 1Gb module alone one full night with memtest86 on a boot cd and it reported no errors.
I know my PSU could be a little short, but when i remove the 1Gb module, everything runs fine like it always did.
Do you think i should raise the mem voltage ? or do you think that voltage rail for the mem is too short with this PSU ?
Maybe i should buy a better PSU...
The thing is all 3 mem modules are double sided (not sure of that, is single sided mem module completely empty on one side ?), and if i take a look at the MSI recommandations, its not recommanded to put 3 Double at 400mhz, but when i reduce the mem frequency from 200 to 166, its all the same, i get the same errors, and the gameplay in battlefield is still unplayable, however MSI recommands putting 3 double only at 333mhz...
I don't know what to think.
Any help will be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yes i have 4 usb 2.0 devices connected full time, logitech mx510 mouse, keyboard ideazon zboard, netgear dg632 modem/router(its own power source) and a dual analog 3 thrustmaster gaming pad, do you think this can be a potential PSU sucker ?
Also i did the changes over the ram voltage and the timings(2,65 and 2,5-5-5-8 2T), but the lags where still in battlefield2, and i played ~30min of prince of persia : warrior within and i got 2 errors(back to desktop).
Did you see the MSI recommandations for ram settings with this mbd ? They say you can't put 3 double sided modules at 400mhz, only at 333mhz, maybe this is why when i load the failsafe settings in the bios the ram is automatically at 166-333 ? what do you think of that. But the strange thing is that even at 333mhz there is still errors and choppy gameplay in bf2.
I know my PSU looks short, but without this 1Gb module, everything runs fine, do you think this module only can mess up the PSU ?
I bought the 6800 GS AGP one month ago and i didnt think my PSU could handle it but it did

  • Late 2008 Macbook 8gb Ram Upgrade Problem

I've read thousands of posts about how to identify if my Macbook aluminium unibody late 2008 can run with 8 gb of ram. I decided to buy two 4gb Ddr3 1066 Mhz from Corsair by reading the post from OWC (http://blog.macsales.com/9102-secret-firmware-lets-late-08-macbooks-use-8gb) As soon as i booted the system with 8gb it crashed and it was impossible to get it work. My Macbooks Model ID is Macbook 5.1 and has a Boot ROM version MB51.007D.B03, running on Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1 (12B19). I tried to leave one the old ram in one slot (1gb) and the new one in the other slot (4gb) and it worked perfectly with  5gb Ram discarting the problem that the new Ram could have failures. Im really confused and i hope to get some help to get this working.

Test using only one of the new RAM modules (no other RAM). Then test with the other new module. This will tell you which (if any) of them is defective. Contact the seller. OWC is very good about replacing RAM that is proven defective.
    Best of luck.
