Dv6-6155ca - Upgrade DVD Drive question

Hello, I am just wondering if there is a Blu Ray upgrade option for this series of laptops. I saw in another post that 511881-001 was for dv6 series laptops, does that mean it will work on mine as well?  Can someone please confirm, or provide me with the model number that will work. Also Where would I buy this part from? Thanks in advance

It appears HP part # 665329-001 has replaced 641824-001. Please consider ordering the drive from the HP Parts Store. Please send KUDOsMr. lasvergaswirmean,May I ask you what you meant with ' It appears HP part # 665329-001 has replaced 641824-001. They were manufactured in a facility on Terra Firma somewhere.

  • Satellite L750 - Windows 8 Upgrade - DVD Drive Missing

I upgraded to Windows 8, after a short while I found the DVD wasn't displayed in windows explorer and devices. I had seen this before on another laptop and installing the Win 8 SATA drivers seemed to cure it.
I have gone to the driver section on the Toshiba site for this model and there are none for SATA. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix or the Win 8 SATA drivers for this model please?

  • COMPAQ F700 STRANGE DVD DRIVE QUESTION

Hello all--I have a F700 notebook that works great however--When i boot my computer fresh i get a white cursor blinking in the upper left side that hangs for about 2 minutes then Vista boots--What i did notice is When i go into device manager my DVD drive isnt listed--So i do a scan in device manager and bingo it finds my dvd drive and it works 100%!!! The main issue i'm having is when i boot up fresh--Thats whene vista doesnt see the dvd drive!
I just formatted my HD and reinstalled Vista fresh  loaded everything on and still same thing!
When i take the dvd drive OUT of the notebook  Then reboot--I dont get the white cursor blinking and Vista boots normal? What would cause this!!  BTW--> I have a spare DVD drive here and that too does the same thing!!! Same exact thing!!!
Strange--unless i'm missing something!! LOL   After a fresh reboot there is no dvd drive listed in device manager or anywhere else in Vista (UNLESS I DO A HARDWARE SCAN in device manager--Then bingo its up and working 100%!! LIKE NEW!
I tried to update the drivers for the DVD drive--It told me that i had the lastest drivers
I even looked in the registry for the LOW AND UP FILTERS--None of that was in there!!!
Thanks for any help!!    Have a great day!!     MARK

I have had the same problem as well.  I was able to correct it.  Here are some options:
Put a couple of different DVD's into the drive.
I know you said it doesn't show up in the Device Manager.  Go back to the Device Manger and right-click on IDE adapters and select Scan for changes.
Let me know if either of these work.

  • CD Version? (and DVD drive question)

Is there a CD version of OS X Tiger 10.4 that I can buy?
    I have a Power Mac G4 running 8.6 and I don't have a DVD drive.
If not, are there any cheaper dvd drives that I can buy that will work? Which ones are compatible? Do they have to be from Apple?

After purchasing the Tiger retail install package, Apple provides a Media Exchange Program to exchange the DVD media for CD media at any additional cost of $9.95.

The problem isn't with your burner, most likely. It's with the format you're burning to.
PCs need discs burned with an ISO-9660 filesystem (someone please correct me if I got this wrong), and you're probably burning HFS/HFS+ (Mac filesystem) discs. Please tell us what software you're using to do the burns. I believe you have to explicitly tell Toast to burn a PC-compatible disc, but I thought Disk Utility burned them by default.
Of course, it's also possible that the PCs that won't play the OSX burned DVDs because they have CD-ROM drives instead of DVD drives.
Hold off on buying an external burner until it's certain that the problem lies with the burner you have now. I seriously doubt there's anything wrong with it.

  • Quicksilver Powermac G4 DVD drive question, please help!!

Hi Guys I really hope someone can help me.
I have got a Quicksilver powermac G4 (2001) it has only an internal CD drive. I have purchased the lastest tiger series a s cds to be up to date. However, I've the got the computer mainly for recording music. I have Cubase system which requires a dvd drive. Can anyone recommend a external dvd drive I can use that is good enough for my mac and recording. I am frightened to buy an internal drive as I've no idea how to install one.
    Will be so grateful guys,
    Hannah

    Hi
The Pioneer DVR-110D (or newer DVR-111D) is a popular choice, works with Tiger and burns both CDs and DVDs. Here in the UK they cost around £30 and in the States around $40 I think.
The following tips may also help with installation, although most are fairly obvious:
    1. Try and use the right sized screwdriver, one that fits snugly into the screws, so you don't risk chewing up the screw heads.
    2. When you're removing the old drive from the computer, get someone to hold it as you undo the screws and disconnect the cables, so you don't risk it dropping onto the logic board.
    3. The power cable can be a tight fit, so you may need to pry it off the old drive with your finger nails or gently rock it from side to side. Don't pull directly on the cables though.
    4. The power cable and ribbon cable connectors are keyed (or shaped) so they'll only fit one way. If you're having trouble connecting them to the new drive, make sure they're the right way up.
You'll also just need to check the new drive is configured correctly. On the back there should be two rows of pins with a small jumper block. By moving the jumper block between different pairs of pins, you can configure the drive as master, slave or CS (cable select). It needs to be set to master. The drive should come with instructions or have a sticker on it indicating which pair of pins is master.
    I hope this helps.

  • Upgraded Hard Drive Question

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone can give me some feedback into my observations of the change in performance of my MacBook since I have upgraded the hard drive from the stock 60Gb 5200rpm to a Seagate 100Gb 7200rpm drive.
The MacBook is the 2Ghz Core Duo with 2Gb RAM bought last May. Before the upgrade the MacBook was near silent when using it lightly such as web surfing, word processing etc. The fan ran way less than 1500rpm.
Since upgrading however, the fan runs constantly between 1500rpm and 2000rpm. I must add that this really isn't a problem, the MacBook is still relatively quiet and certainly does not spoil user experience.
The other thing I have noticed is, and is more concerning, the MacBook does not perform well in terms of battery usage. I have 175 charge cycles-about 73% capacity and the battery rarely lasts longer than 2hours. It did last around 3 hours with slightly more capacity-75%.
Is the fan running at well above 1500rpm OK whilst using the machine 'lightly'? or might this be of concern?
Is the battery performance crippled when using the 7200rpm drive? or is the poor performance due to the battery capacity dipping below 75%?
I do realise that I can increase battery performance very slightly by 'conditioning' the battery and by simply not having the display so bright.
I ask these questions because I selected the Seagate drive due to good performance reports here on the discussion site and the favourable performance tests carried out by 'wiredbynature.org-macbook resource site' that concluded that the Seagate drive increased speed performance but only slightly increased heat, noise levels and battery life.
This is not my experience, especially battery consumption-has anyone got any comments on my observations?
    Regards,
    Richard

I've heard (but can't find it right now) that your 7200 drive will use about 25% more power than a 5400. Also the faster drive will be noiser, generating more heat and therefore increasing your fan speed (which again zaps the power). So putting these all together I think things are what you could expect with your drive.
I know that's no consolation, but most people look right away at the performance aspect ..."how much faster can I get my DVD ripped?" - rather than "how long can I watch my 3hr movie while disconnected from power".

  • Upgrading hard drive question

i was going to upgrade the hard drive in a friend's older macbook 4,1. the drive it came with is this:
    fujitsu mhy2250bh
    http://reviews.cnet.com/internal-hard-drives/fujitsu-mobile-mhy2250bh-hard/4505- 9998_7-32595467.html
i was looking to upgrade it to this:
    Samsung’s Spinpoint M8
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152291
i've done plenty of drive upgrades on my mac pro but never on a macbook. is there anything i need to be aware of, like, it needs special apple firmware or it won't work, things like that. or can i use off-the-shelf drives like i can in the mac pro?
and, second, the macbook is running 10.5. what's the max memory it can use? thought i'd look at upping that while i was at it. it currently has 4gb.
    thanks very much,
    BabaG

I'm not totally sure...I think you can pretty much use whatever, but from what I've heard people have been saying to stay away from Western Digital, especially the blue ones.  I usually just get mine from a local shop around here that deals only with Mac's so I know what I get from them is going to work.  They do the labor for free so if I need purchase one from them (which I have many times) they put it in for me for free.  I haven't really asked them if there is certain ones, but the ones they give me have always been the Hybrid drives which are part SSD and HDD so it makes the computer much faster.  I'm going to be getting one for this MacBook soon, I'm starting to run out of space on this drive as well.

  • IMac dvd drive question.

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could put a iMac dvd-rom from a iMac dv into my blueberry slot loading iMac? It only has a cd-rom drive and the drive is dead. Thank you.

Yes - I believe all the slot-loading iMacs (and the Power Mac G4 Cube) use compatible optical drives.

  • External DVD drive question

I have looked through the discussion here about this, but I some of them where kinda old.
My sisters intel iMacs super drive is going out. Will any usb external dvd burning drive work with it?? Or are there only select ones?
Looked at apple store and the only drive I could find there works only with macbook air and mini
    Thanks..

From what I know - if its a mac superdrive it will work - afterall it is for macs - just not specificly mac mini's and airs.  To double check you could chat to a apple person online https://storechat.apple.com/hc/6964264/?cmd=file&file=chatFrame&site=6964264&SV! chat-button-name=chat-gb-consumer-sales-english-2&SV!chat-button-room=chat-gb-co nsumer-sales-english-2&referrer=(button%20dynamic-button:chat-gb-consumer-sales- english-2(Configure%20-%20Apple%20Store%20%28UK%29))%20http%3A//store.apple.com/ uk/configure/MC813B/A%3Fselect%3Dselect%26product%3DMC813B%252FA%26mco%3DMjIwNTQ 0Nzc&sessionkey=H1517459551805583391-6873672369318105988K1838500

  • A quick question concerning replacing the DVD drive in a HP pavillion dv6-2057cl

I need to replace the DVD drive in this dv6 and I am wondering if there is any wiggle room when it comes to the replacement drive.  Can I use another HP disc drive with a similar model # or am I restricted to the "identical" drive?
    Some quick info follows:
    OS = Windows 7 home premieum (32bit)
The drive pulled out of the laptop:
    Super Multi DVD Rewriter
    MODEL: GT20L
    FW        : DC05
    HW       : A2
    TYPE    : AMCK702
    CT : 7AXVK012GY3NRY
    HP mPC PN : 461646-6C2
    S/N :
    {Removed for privacy}
    MANUFACTURED : OCTOBER 2008
I have found a replacement with the same "Model #" and same "HP mPC PN" however it was manufactured in 2009 and I do not know if the placement of the SATA connection on the rear of the drive matches up or not.
    Any help is much appreciated!!!!!!
    Thank you,

It looks like the part number is the same. As long as the part number is the same, it is essentially the same part and should work without any issues. The only time that part may not work is if the part number is different. If any part is different from another part (firmware, hardware, etc.), it will have a different part number. As long as 461646-6C2 is the same on both, there shouldn't be any issue with replacing the drive.

  • Upgrade again.. but w/o DVD drive:-)

    Hi,
+/* Sorry to bother the community with maybe same question: I see many regarding upgrades. Unfortunately I didn't find a solution for my particular situation, so here it goes again ...+
    1) I have a G5 with 10.3.9; need to upgrade to a higher v-n (unfortunately; the only reason is that Sibelius-5 doesn't work on Panther, what a shame);
    2) I got a black DVD with a silver X;
    3) but... I have no place to insert it:-)
+(some recent problem with my SONY DVD RW DW-U21A: can now only read/write CDs but not DVDs. At least not double-sided ones for sure).+
    My question is basically:
*- is it possible at all to install a new OS w/o buying a new optical drive?*
// Even funnier: I looked at a nice external optical drive today - here in the apple store -- LaCie-smth... - nice indeed except it only works with v10.4.8 or >> .
To complete the picture, I also have a laptop (more modern and with a good dvd drive that can read my DVD fine) and also a usb backup hard drive.
... So 1st tried a "simple" thing 1st: created a *dmg from the dvd, copied it to my ucb disk, copied it then to my desktop, but - that didn't work (says: restart? - sure, restart, after which it forgets the dmg mount(? or smth. else?; maybe an anti-piracy thing. Indeed that would be too easy otherwise:-))..
In any case, I am hoping there's still a solution (keeping in mind I have two macs and a f/w cable -?).
Or, if not, here goes my 2n q-n: is there an external optical drive that a) would work with 10.3 so I could install 10.4 and b) would still be worth it while with 10.4 / 10.5?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.
