Dv6 laptop screen not working

My laptop was woking fine, but I bumped it/dropped it slightly. The screen went black (but still lit).
I tried the "remove battery, hold down power button" trick but it didn't help.
when I turned it back on, the screen did some pulsating light with some pixel-y sections.
I also tried connecting it to an external monitor, but it didn't work.
Also,  I don't think it's even fully starting up anymore.

Hi
I understand that your display is not coming up anymore after having been dropped. I am happy to assist.
I would start with this page: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
Depending on any progress or lack thereof you should then check out these:
Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays (Windows 7 and Windows 8)
Diagnosing a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for Damage
Also, take a look at the service guide; it is possible that a connection for the display or some other component has come loose. This can help with that.
HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
I hope this helps.

  • Toshiba Satellite a75 laptop screen not working! Please read.

So I originally posted last week about a problem with the same laptop overheating and causing the computer to shut down every 5-10 minutes randomly. well, after reading several posts and forums I realized my heatsync was clogged, so I dismantled the entire computer, and cleaned the fans, and heatsync. sure enough, it was clogged with incredible amounts of dust (this laptop I bought already used). This was all that was wrong, until I pieced everything together again and turned it on. No screen. The laptop has yet to shut off, which leads me to believe I fixed the problem with the laptop over heating, but now I still cant use the thing because all of a sudden the screen wont work. What did I do wrong? I'm like 100% sure I pieced it back together properly and toyed with it for the next hour or so.

Hook up an external VGA monitor to the computer and see if you can get video there. Do an FN-F5 key combination to get the video to output to the external monitor. If you get video there, you may have not connected the LCD screen connections correctly. No video on the external monitor may mean an issue with the system board. Again check your cables and connectors. Also that the CPU was properly seated and you have some silicon grease between the CPU and the cooling module.
Finally, those A75s are an old computer and can be purchased on E-Bay for very little. What is your time worth? Is putting $200 worth of time into a $50 computer a good use of a limited resource?

  • Laptop Screen Not Working

Everytime I turn off my laptop manually, the screen goes to a blank blue screen and I have to hook it up to an external screen in order to see what's on it. Sometimes it turns back on by itself.

    Hi Karl,
before deleting Windows you might wanna first try the Safe Boot options of it following these descriptions http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-s afe-mode
The Safe Mode might show if its a driver issue.
The Enable Boot Logging might show if maybe it's an issue with a Startup Item or the like.
The Last Known Good Configuration can help if its an issue with a driver update.
The correct way to delete your WIndows would be to use the BootCamp Assistant in OSX and revert back to 'single OSX volume'.
Then after a reboot of your MAc you can use the BootCamp Assistant again to make a new Windows partition to the size of your liking and install Windows fresh.
Before that you might wanna copy valuable files from the WIndows partition to your OSX partition or an external harddisk while in OSX.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • HP 2000 Notebook Screen not working.... Still

I have an HP 2000 Notebook that is running windows 8 64 bit and the screen on the laptop will not work.  When I turn on my computer, the screen won't show but the fans and everything els will work as normal. The capslock button does blink in a 2 blink series, which according to HP means bios error, but I believe that is not the proublem. I have tried to fix this proublem by all of the following:
    - Holding the winsows key and b, then pressing the power button (for one second) which should direct me to my bios update but it doesn't becuase i still can't see anything
    - Switching the ram into different slots, I have 2 sticks of 4 gigs, I have also tried just one stick
    - Taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the power for 60 secconds and plugging it back in... multiple times (Getting rid of extra charge)
    - Checked if the black light was dead but it wasn't becuase normaly if you take a flashlight to the screen you can still see it slightly but I can't see it at all
The weird thing is, is that I can plug it into an external monitor and it will work. Also every now and then the screen will work for about a day but then the next day it won't work again. I even tried calling HP, but for them to talk me through it and try to fix it, it cost $75.

    Hello, @jiddy30
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I understand that you're having issues with a black screen on your notebook. I will try to assist you with this.
As you're troubleshooting led to trying an external monitor and that is working, the issue is more then likely with the actual notebook display itself. I would guess with it working at times, it could be a loose wire in the display. It could also be the display.
If you're comfortable you can check this yourself, Maintenance and Service Guide - this has visuals and instructions on replacing components. It also works as a guide when it comes to opening a notebook to just check wires and components.
I hope this can help some.

Hi I am new to this forum and am asking for your  help.  We are sharing a computer, the PrtSc key is working for the Administrator but not when we switch users.  We have tried everything that we can think of: From opening a the page(S) we want to paste to not opening the pages. My most common usage is to PrtSc and paste it into an email , but barring that we have tried opening a page in notes, documents, word etc . Nothing seems to work.  I do not get an error message , it just won't paste. Since we are not computer literate we are hoping you can help us with a solution .  Thanks in Advance .

Jerry, that post you just answered was from nearly 4 1/2 years ago!  And that's the last time the OP was here.

  • Sony Vaio Pro 13.3 Touch: Touch screen not working

Hi, The touch screen for my Sony Vaio Pro 13 Touch suddenly stopped working two days ago and I have no idea how to fix it. I didn't install anything new before it stopped working, and I tried to install all the new drivers on the VAIO update but it still didn't work. I thought it might be because of Windows so I updated to Windows 8.1 today and it still does not work. On the PC info it even says" Pen abd touch: No pen or touch input is available for this display". but this laptop is supposed to have touch capability and it has been working up until now. Please help! My model number is SVP13215CDB. Do I need to install or update my driver?

    Hi FlyingTortoise,
Was there any changes prior to touch screen not working?  Like installing software or hardware?  If not, then try using windows system restore to restore back to a date that you know when it was working.  If that still does not resolve issue.  Then we may have to put the unit back to factory condition to eliminate software related before servicing the unit for hardware.

I installed windows 7 on my macbook pro. all is working but lan adaptor and sound od laptop is not working. please help me or send the link where i can download the these drivers.I have lost my resource cd .

If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion, the drivers are downloaded from within Bootcamp Assistant. If you are running Snow Leopard the drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk.
Read the Bootcamp Install Guide for your version of OSx. http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Bootcamp questions should be asked in the Bootcamp forum where the Bootcamp gurus hang out https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my simplePass identity protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE.

I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my HP SimplePass Identity Protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE. It worked with the previous Firefox version but now when I use the internet, it doesn't even acknowledge I have the scanner. When I run my finger over it, it opens the settings panel but does not allow use of the already saved information or allow new information to be entered. I need this corrected. Any suggestions?

I asked this same question, and just received a response:
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases
for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for
Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do
not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep
DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona
is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications.
In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after
    Mid-April of this year.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team "
In other words, there will be NO update.

  • LaserJet Pr0 200 color MFP M276nw Touch Screen not Working correctly

Hello, I'm having an issue with a LaserJet Pr0 200 color MFP M276nw Touch Screen not Working correctly. I have followed the instructions to reset the printer, but now am unable to select 'English' as my language because every time I select the 'English' option 'Spanish' is selected. I am then given two options to select 'Si' or 'No' both of which can not be selected on the touch screen?
Anybody know of a way round this?

    Hi @dnhowes ,
I see that you are having issues with the touch screen not working correctly. I will do my best to help you.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Was it the Nvram reset back to factory settings that you tried or a hard reset?
Try selecting the option on the display a little higher above the icon to see if that helps. Some touch screens are finicky.
I find that on the Lab printers when I am selecting different menus.

  • Lenovo A1 - Touch screen not working after digitizer replacement

After dropping my tablet and breaking the digitzer, I ordered a replacement digitzer from a company in China. (It took about a month to get it) After watching this video, I was able to install my new digitizer and it finally looked new again....well at least the screen!
But.....when I powered up my tablet, the touch screen wasn't working..... I emailed back and forth with the company and they told me to install drive program, and send me a link to a site with a video, this site may have contained more than the video, but it was all in Chinese and I couldn't figure it out even with Google Translate. So I started researching. I thought I would try and load ICS on it, I thought, "Whats the worst thing that could happen?" it wasn't much more than a brick at this point anyways.
I found this website that let me through installing ICS on it. I had absolutly no expectations...but IT WORKED!!!! MY TOUCH SCREEN IS NOW WORKING!!!! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
When I was researching for this problem, there was absolutly no posts anywhere for "Touch screen not working after new digitizer". So I wanted to share my experience.

Yea you are correct.....it must be a hardware problem. You must contact service centre of Lenovo and get help from there.

  • Water damage to iphone screen not working

I need to back up to icloud, but my touch screen not working.  Siri is working, i can text. Is there any other way to backup contacts to icloud without touch screen?

UUsually when a phone gets wet you put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 5 to 7 days, but that doesn't guarantee that it will work.
you can get an out of warrant iPhone at the Apple store.

  • 8500 All in One - touch screen not working

One minute the touch screen with all it's functions was working fine and then, bam (!), the touch screen stopped working and I can't even use the one/off switch to power the unit off - it does not respond.  Funny thing is that the printer is still working from my computer so I can still send a print job via the wireless.   With the touch screen not working I can't use any function from the unit itself (copy a hard copy, fax a hard copy) and if the unit runs out of paper I have to unplug it to reboot since I can't hit the 'enter' on the touch screen once I've reloaded.
Bottom line --- nothing from the unit itself works.  Has a printer fairy locked me out or does this sound like a hardware error?  Thanks for any help ...
    Linda T

Excellent.  Let me know how round 2 treats you.  The sad demise could have been due to a couple of things...as a side question, is the climate where you live especially dry right now?  I may request that our testers recheck how well we handle a static shock on the product if it is dry where you live.
