DV6000 Power Button Issue

Ok before every one says to search, Well i did search. What happen was the power button stoped working but the LED was still lit. So I took off the top panel to inspect the connection and such. After my so called inspection I put it back toghether to find out now the the speakers and the Volume (-) and (+) LED's, and power button or the LED on the power button doesn't work... So I buy a new power button, and ribbon and replace, put it all back toghether and now the LED on the power button lights up but doesn't work, and the Volume (-) and (+) leds don't light up no more either, any help would be really appreciated

  • Fairly simple fix for dv6000 power button, microphone, internal speaker problems

    I have a dv6000 notebook computer, S/N CNF6380XM1, P/N EZ829AV.
Over time (I've had the computer for almost 4 years) the power button, internal speakers, and microphone became increasingly flaky and eventually stopped working altogether.  Classic signs of a bad connection.  I could still turn on the computer by touching the QuickPlay button to the right of the power button.
I used the Maintenance and Service Guide, HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook PC, Document number 416618-003 (PDF can be found online from HP) to get the removal/replacement procedures for the switch cover (the piece of the case above the keyboard that has the power button, the Quick Play buttons, and the speakers) and the power button board.  Remove three silver screws inside the battery compartment, pop loose some snaps along the top edge of the switch cover, and carefully fold the switch cover back over the keyboard.  The power button board is pretty obvious other than knowing you need to slide the latch ears on the ZIF connector away from the connector body (towards the flex cable) in order to release the flat flex cable.
The power button board has flat flex cable that connects to the motherboard.  In addition to having the power switch, this board is used as a breakout board for the microphone and the internal speakers.  I looked at the contacts of the ZIF flat flex connector under a microscope and aha!, just as I suspected, they are gold plated.  You might think this is a good thing, and it would be if the mating contacts on the flat flex cable were also gold plated.  But alas they are tin plated.  Gold + tin + vibration + time = bad connection.   For those interested in the technical details of this, do a search for "fretting corrosion".
Since I'm pretty miserly and like to fix stuff, I decided to try simply cleaning the contacts.  I cut a strip of carborundum paper (very fine abrasive coated paper) the same width as the flex cable, insert it into the ZIF connector, close the latch, and pull the paper out.  I repeated this 3 times, then shot some compressed air into it to remove any gritty dust.  I then rubbed the contacts of the flat flex cable with the carborundum paper and wiped them off with a clean static-free cloth.
After reassembly, everything is working again!  Since this didn't address the root cause of the problem, it will probably eventually start acting up again, but maybe by that time I'll be ready for a new computer anyway.  A proper fix would be to replace the ZIF connector with one that has tin contacts, and to replace the flat flex cable.
This is a design flaw on the power button board.  A ZIF connector with tin contacts should have been used.  Ironically, I learned about fretting corrosion over 20 years ago from an old HP reliability guru named Ed Aoki when I was an engineer in the HP medical electronics business.
After doing an internet search on "dv6000 power button", I saw that there seem to be quite a few frustrated people out there that are having similar problems with internal speakers and microphone.  The troubleshooting flow chart in the service manual does not help to properly identify the problem component (the power button board and flat flex cable).  Hopefully this info will be helpful.

No, its too expensive for HP to plate the zif connectors with something that doesn't corrode....rolleyes.
    Thanks nice tutorial.

Hi, my product is under warranty and has a power button issue. Greek dealer doas not support it becouse I bought it from the us. wharT shall  I do.Thank you

It can only be serviced in the country where it was originally sold.  Take it back to the US or send it to someone you know there to take it in for service.

  • IPhone 5 Power button issues after recent update.

After this most recent update, my power button is not working as it normally does.  It takes two or three attempts to turn the phone off and more than once to turn it.  Sometimes it turns on and immediately turns off.  This is happening only after this update.

Yes 7.1.2  I had a 7.1 backup, and no issues with that... but then I did a clean DL of 7.1.2 and once again with NO apps on the iphone power button issues... as mentioned.  So it is not the apps, nor songs, nor anything else...just 7.1.2  I am now running 7.1  no issues.

  • HT1430 iPhone 4S Power Button Issue

I have an iPhone4S that has fallen to the broken power button issue - is there a way to restart it without the power button? My phone is acting strange and I know if I restart it then it will be ok. I am already using the Accessibility feature to lock the screen, but cannot figure out how to restart it short of letting the battery run out.

I have the same issue.... just hold down the lock screen button on your accessibility menu until it shows you the power down option.  Then plug the charger in & it will automatically turn back on.

  • IPhone 5 power button issue .Apple store can't help !

I have an issue with my power button on my iPhone 5.It works perfectly sometimes and sometimes it doesn't .I have to press it 2,3 times to get it work .I took it to the Apple store and it worked perfectly there so they said they can't replace it unless they see the problem and they are right . But I don't know what to do it does it sometimes ,how am I going to go there in the right time .Do you have any other suggestions ? Thank you.

You can try calling an Apple support number for your location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and see if they can help.  Otherwise, when it starts acting up take it to an Apple store genius bar.
But try the support line first and see what help they offer.

  • IPod Touch Power Button Issue?

I have an 8GB 1st Generation iPod Touch (The one without the camera, power button on the left side instead of the right, yada yada yada). I've had it since Christmas, and it's run perfectly well, until yesterday. I began to notice that the power button (the small button at the top) was sticky. Not stuck, but simply sticky. Instead of having to tap it and add a slight pressure to get it to turn on, turn off, lock, ect, I now have to push down so hard that it leaves imprints on my fingers, not to mention that it doesn't always respond, as if it's jammed, and if I'm not very persistent it will lock, but not turn off. I have to try three or four times to turn it off using the power button, though occasionally the screen will flicker like I'm hitting the button multiple times. It's not like the button is stuck - I can still use it, but it's sticky. I was wondering if there is any solution that doesn't require sending my iPod in?
If you need any further explanation feel free to let me know, I'll be willing to tell you. Sending my iPod in isn't a problem really, though if there's a simple fix that I'm not aware of (seeing as this is my first iPod) I'd be much more willing to keep it here.

    Hi,
I have an 32G 2nd generation iPod touch with a problematic on/off button, and I'm not sure this is a physical problem at all.
My touch worked perfectly well until the version 3.0 update, and then I started having problems with the on/off "wake/sleep" button.
I often have to take 3 or 4 attempts to turn the screen off, and then when it does turn off it comes back on again with the "red bar" to switch it off. This is only supposed to happen when you purposely hold down the on/off button, but it does it when it feels like it now!
Like I said, it worked perfectly well on the version 2.0 software, but you couldn't possibly get into DFU mode to return it to version 2 because holding onto the button no longer seems to get the "red" bar to come up, so I've no idea where I am with it! It drives me nuts, but I'm almost positive it's an issue with the software.
Yes, I've tried a restore on several occasions, and turning it off and on so many times I can't count, but the problem never goes away!
I've asked Apple several times to deal with the issue, but they've had at least 6 attempts now, and nothing has been done about it. My Touch will now be stuck on 4.1 forever as I can't get iTunes 10, because I have an old mac that's on 10.4.11.
I'll have to live with it as it is, as I can't afford to upgrade, and I don't want to anyway because it works perfectly well, EXCEPT for this one annoying issue.

  • Lenovo T410 does not power on due to keyboard / power button issue.

I have a Lenovo T410 which has been exhibiting keyboard issues (several keys have failed and I've been using an external keyboard).
It seems that the keyboard failure is affecting the powering up of the machine. Occasionally it will turn on, most of the time it will not.
I've submitted an eService request for this and the status is "Solution Provided" but the "SO Status (as shown on ICSS)" is "On Hold" "Order on hold, pending update" (per: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074324 ). This has been the case since the 28th of last month.
I've confirmed it is a keyboard failure by swapping a keyboard from a T420 (which, ironically, had a service request fulfilled fine around the same time).
    I have two questions:
    i) most urgently, is there *any* way I can power the machine on without using the keyboard?
ii) what do I do about the service request's "On Hold" status? this machine is out of action and key to our work.

    i) There are three ways to power on the laptop without the power button.
    a) Use a dock.
    b) Check under BIOS menu (if possible) under power, to see whether you have something called 'Power On with AC Attach' feature. If you do enable it, and save then exit. What this do, is that it will power on the laptop when you connect the power plug into the laptop.

    c) remove the CMOS battery, and power on the laptop by attaching the power adapter to the laptop.

  • Blackberry passport power button issue

hi, I bought a passport phone three weeks ago and this one problem with the power button is there from the begining. there is a delay cca 4 s, not everytime but very often and it is very annoying.  Please can you help with this, is a software or hardware issue. Thanks for your quick answer...

I hadn't noticed, so I just looked. I count 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi (about 2 seconds give or take) between the moment I press and hold the power button and the moment the screen changes to cancel lock restart option screen. There is a second or less delay to lock the screen and keyboard when I press and release the power buttons, and about the same when I press the button to unlock the screen and keyboard.
See what others say. I bought my Passport when it was first released. I can imagine BlackBerry increased these delays in software based on user feed back, but I don't know.
I would also look at any correlations. I would be particularly curious about what happens with a clean OS install, and then what happens when you install apps one at a time and test in between. Also, if you have any very long text conversations, those have been know to cause sluggish performance, so it would be interesting to know if deleting such conversations makes a difference.

  • Iphone5 right side power button issue?

Is anyone facing the issue on iphone5 power button? where it doesnt funcation when pressed on the right side of the button but it works when pressed left side of the button.

    Hi,

Is there any fix for it?

  • Fatal power button issue

Hey there, I have had no problems with my Z2 until today. However, now my screen is constantly flickering on and off as if the power button is being repeatedly pressed, furthermore the window with the options to power off/ restart etc also appear occasionally. I'm unable to power the device off as when I do it will boot itself up again straight away. As you can imagine, this renders the device utterly useless. Has anyone had a similar experience with this? Or does anyone have any fix suggestions? The phone is out of warranty, I'm unable to replace it.
I made a short video of the problem just in case my explanation isn't clear enough.

Thanks for any help you can offer me, I'm lost for what to do.

I had the same issue once with my old Xperia Z, after washing it with soap (which is apparently not right) so water and soap got beneath the power botton and caused the same symptoms. It was also out of warranty and I sent it to 3rd party mobile fixing office. They did some cleaning and didn't cost me a lot that time.

  • Satellite A660 - Power Button Issue

For some time now my laptop has been power in on and off without any interaction. I think that it relates to a faulty power button. The button is extremely sensitive and will even power if the surrounding panel is pressed.
My question has anyone else experience this issue and were they able to fix the problem? I'm thinking that if I take it for repair it will be a replacement of the motherboard and cost half the price of the machine.

    Hi,
I had the same issue on the same laptop.
i know how annoying it could be. A simple fix to it was just unscrew from the back side of the laptop the 4 screws that surround the battery. Give it a try it worked for me so far.
it was like the wind would switch the laptop on or off.
it took me more than 2 weeks to figure this fix out. i replaced everything from RAM , HDD, battery, testing of power supply to all software and still had the issue.
i was just about to break my laptop when one day i had it apart and could not be bothered to put the screws back in and BANG it worked like a charm......
    Tell me how you go.
    Cheers,

  • IPhone 5 power button issue

I got my 16GB iPhone 5 in December. It has just recently, within a month, began to show problems with the power button. Initially, the right side of the power button had stopped working, and I had to push down on the left side in order to sleep/wake or power off/on. Yesterday, the entire power button became inoperable. I now have resorted to Assistive Touch to sleep/wake and power on/off my iPhone 5. If I bring this phone to my local Genius Bar, will they replace my phone? If they will replace my phone, I was wondering about something. Could I ask for a 32GB iPhone 5? Would they allow that? I would be willing to pay money for it.

This is a common issue with iPhone 4/5. They will replace your phone if its a "hardware" issue. If you are not in your warranty time frame anymore, they charge you $20 just to talk to them basically. They will not upgrade your phone to a 32 GB either. If you have insurance on your phone, its about $100 to replace it. Since you said you got it in December, you should be in your warranty time frame. I would go quickly. They try to get out of replacing their products.

  • Power button issue Mac Pro 2.66

Mac Pro 2.66 is connected to a power strip I now notice that I do not have to press the power button to boot this Mac up. To boot it I need to just turn the power strip on WITHOUT pressing the power button and it boots right up. Only occasionally when I turn on the power strip its connected to I have to boot using the power button.
My question is what should I do here?
Isn't the power button part of the power supply?
If so can I repair the button or do I need a new power supply?
    Anyone?
