Dv6928us: Laptop not running in Battery, '0% available, Plugged in, not charging' but fine in power

Product No. dv6928us: Laptop is not running in Battery. Battery icon indicates, '0% available, Plugged in, not charging' even when the battery is inserted. But the laptop works fine in power mode.
Battery check indicates: "The primary battery was not detected. Check to assure the battery is properly inserted then restart the computer'.
Execution of this did not help.
Can anybody tell me whether battery life is over or loose connection in battery placement?

Try updating The BIOS and then try it again. BIOS (latest): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-62510-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&... If that fails to fix it, the battery will need replaced (if you want to) or ignored.

I have: Aspire V3-771-6470 with 500GB SSD, 16GB RAM, WINDOWS 10.  Have had this laptop for about 3-4 years with no issues.  But, the battery had seen better days.  It lasting only 20-30 minutes.  So, yesterday, installed brand new battery and charged fully.  When I turned on laptop, battery meter shows "0% available (plugged in, not charging).  I researched on internet and have tried several of the "quick fix" approaches with no luck. What happened? Please help. Thanks.

Has anyone tried a new power cord?

  • Battery problems. Plugged in, says charging, but is not actually charging

I have an HP TouchSmart tm2 (have had it for a few years now). Everything works fine (for the most part) except the battery. I have it plugged in but it says "0% available (plugged in, charging)" but it's not actually charging. It's been this way for a few days. I have taken out the battery and then put it back in, but nothing changes.
I know I am no longer under warranty, and since it works fine while it is plugged in, I am not about to spend a ton of money to have this problem fixed. It started (minorly) when I got the laptop back from HP (completely unrelated issue, while still under warranty) a little over a year ago. It wasn't  big issue so I didn't worry about. It's just annoying now. I am just wondering if the battery needs replaced (and if so, how much is that going to run) or if it is a bigger issue that I will just have to live with because I'm not going to put a lot of money into this computer. I was hoping to be able to use this one at work and my old Dell at home (the Dell doesn't hold charge anymore and the battery costs more than the laptop is worth), since this one was still holding charge at the beginning of the week. Now it won't even charge. I have left it plugged in and off over night and there was no change in the battery percentage... frustrating, kind of makes me want to avoid HP from now on...

  • Laptop dosenot run on battery

    product name- probook 5310m
problem - battery is charged but laptop doesnot run without AC plugged in and battery health is showing good on hp support assistant and also on icon of battery it shows plugged in, not charging,,... please help me out

    Hi asd123,
I see you are getting the “plugged in not charging” message on your ProBook. As the ProBook 5310m is a commercial product I recommend that you post problem in the commercial forums to  get your issue more exposure.  Here is a link to the Commercial Notebook forum.
However this issue could simply be a problem with the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery which is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted.  The steps below will show you how to reset it.  For additional help check out the commerical forum.
Step 1. Go to Device Manager
    Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
    Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
    Step 6. Shutdown the computer
Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in
When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
Step 8. Go to Device Manager
    Step 9. Select Batteries
Step 10. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 11. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Till now my battery has been working perfectly. The machine is about 1 year old and I use it heavily for my work. I prefer to unplug my battery when it's full, and use it till it go's to sleep before plugging it in again. This results in a very high Cycle count (453) but a still perfectly working battery (98% according to CoconutBattery), I can use the machine for about 4 hours on a full battery.
The amperage would be 0 since your battery is not in a charge cycle.
Part of your problem could honestly be your cycle count and method of caring for your battery. If you check some of the research about Li_ion batteries this is the worse way to use it. Li-Ion batteries work best with little charges. Deep cycling Li-Ion can kill the cells. There is no good reason to charge the battery and then use it as you have been doing. This just kills your battery for no reason. The MacBook is designed to cut the charge off when the battery is full and it does not hurt the battery to lie idle like this. The method you're using can prematurely kill your battery.
Either the battery has a problem that is not showing on you readings or the battery circuit is fried. Do you know someone that has a MacBook or live near an Apple store so you can test your battery on a known good MacBook. Or you could try one of their batteries in it.

  • Lumia 2520: "0% available (plugged in, not chargin...

I purchased a 2520 in January.  It's a great tablet and even better now that I have the power keyboard.
However, I have noticed one thing.
When the charger is plugged into the 2520, no problems.
When I attach the 2520 to the keyboard and the charger is plugged in, no problem.
When I unplug the charger while the 2520 is attached to the keyboard, it sometimes reboots and it sometimes doesn't.
If I undock the 2520 from the keyboard and unplug the charger, the 2520 goes dead.
I noticed, when it was plugged in, via the Desktop, using the battery icon, that Battery 1 says: 0% available (plugged in, not charging)
Does this mean that the tablet battery is dead?

    Hi DrPhibes,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
When did this issue start to happen? Did something happen to your Lumia 2520 before the charging issue came up? What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far for this issue?
If the battery is completely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator shows any progress. Though the tablet works fine when the charger is plugged in, try leaving it idle for a few minutes and see if the battery indicator will increase from 0%.
Try also to restart the PC before re-charging it to refresh the tablet's software. if the issue continues, check this link for more troubleshooting steps to try: Nokia Lumia 2520 - Need help in fixing a problem?

  • New Yoga, "Plugged in and charging," but not actually charging

    Hi all,
I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts?
    Thanks

Yeah I have this same problem with my Yoga along with just about every other issue that has been mentioned in this forum so far. Dislike Lenovo. Save us the frustration and don't be in a rush to release your products. Where's the quality control?

I dropped my phone down the toilet then turned it off and left it in rice over night now it's saying battery dead and needs to be charged but I've read charing it is the worst thing to do, help please?

After taking a dip in my vest pocket in the washing machine for about 10 minutes, my nearly new 5S spent 5 days in rice and silica gel packets.   It definitely dried out, but there is damage to either the battery or the circuit board because it turns on, and I continuously get a blue screen and it reboots every five minutes for a half hour, and then miraculously, it stays on and works perfectly.  But I wound up having to fork over $700 for a new 6+. because I couldn't stand the rebooting any longer.   I had no insurance, but I do now, Apple insurance, not carrier ins.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Hp zv5242qv laptop with windows vista will not run on battery but will run on power adapter

Hello, I have a HP zv5242qv pavilion zv5000 series laptop with windows vista installed. I can run it on the power adapter with and without the battery installed but it will not power up on just the battery, the battery is new and fully charged. When I plug in the power adapter the battery light on the front of the laptop comes o then goes off, anyone have any ideas about my problem ?

    Hello,
The situation you describe looks like the unit has problems with the battery, but you say the battery is new and is fully charged.
Then, the issue might be with the system board and maybe there isn't anyhting you can do.
You can try to remove the battery and the ac adapter, and keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds, then connect the ac adapter, turn on the unit, then when in windows put the battery in place, see how it is detected, the power level and restart the PC. See if the unit restarts with the battery in place, if yes, then shutdown the unit.
See what happens and report back.

  • HP Pavilion battery healthy and charged but laptop is not running on battery

A serious and odd problem has developed with my Pavilion (HP 15-N096EA PC)
I removed the battery when the machine was switched off and pressed the start button as this procedure was suggested on a site for clearing malware issues.
Since then, my laptop has refused to run on battery. Behaves as if there was no battery in it. The Pavilion is relatively new, the battery is in perfect condition, charges to 100% and keeps the machine running for up to 6-8 (!) hours. Not kidding.
Even now, the mains connection charges the battery, the little icon says so in the system tray. It is now 100% charged.
But when I unplug the mains adaptor the whole thing dies immediately.
I applied electric contact cleaning liquid to the connection ends of the battery, even measured the voltage in the battery with the tipped ends of a volt meter. All reading perfect values, yet the computer has stopped working from battery.
An hour ago this computer worked completely well on battery, but since the current "draining" exercise absolutely nothing. Tried all sorts of options: Taking battery in and out while on mains, nothing doing. If I am correct, battery calibration can only happen with the computer running on battery and this computer refuses to run on any battery.
What has happened here please? ANY HINT,ADVICE, SUGGESTION from professionals, non-professionals most desired and appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi @Squinancy
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
From your description it sounds like you were try to do a hard reset of your notebook to start with, but it is possible it was not done properly. Read through this, and try it again.
