Dv6t-1200 ssd sata III support

I have a dv6t-1200 CTO and would like to replace the hard drive with a Smasung 830 SSD drive.  The dv6 shows a motherboard Quanta 3627 18.42 and I'd like to know if this supports SATA III my S/N is CNF9407X3H part number fv161av.  I am running Windows 7. My understanding is that SATA III will perform much better than SATA II and since the SSD is $300, if I can't get top performance I would consider an upgraded laptop.

I bought and installed the samsung 830 256GB drive and it is working great. I still don't know if I'm getting SATA II or SATA III speeds but it is much faster so it is what it is.

  • Satellite L850-117 - SATA III support

I have a plan to change my old hard-drive with new SATA III SSD.
I have searched from Toshiba homepage about spec if it supports SATA III but it's very difficult to find that kind of information. If I understand correctly, it needs to support SATA III to get full performance of SSD.
The laptop is Toshiba Satellite l850-117, it has Sandy Bridge (32nm Technology), by googling it I have found some answers that if I have Sandy Bridge I also have SATA III support.
From BIOS I can only change "best performance" or "best lifetime" for HDD/SDD, nothing about SATA versions.
This is the best spec I have found so far
I have USB 3.0 support, I guess it's a good sign but I want to make sure I get full performance out of it if spend a lot of money on big SSD.
Can anyone give me an advice?

    Hi
Why you dont install some hardware diagnostic tools like Everest Home Edit or another tool like SANDR Sisoft.
Both would be able to provide you all details and info about the hardware parts and hardware properties.
The L850 series is equipped with different hardware parts but usually the ODD and HDD controller is connected to the chipset (Cougar Port / Panther point) and the chipset is connected to CPU (Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge)
However, I think and from my own experience the ODD SATA interface would support max 150Mbyte/s. Im not sure about the HDD but I assume it could be 300Mbyte/s (SATA II)
But please share the results provided by one of the mentioned tools.

  • Big Problems with Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and W520

    Hi,
i get my W520 last week with an normal SATA 500 GB Drive, at home i changed it to a Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and install windows 7 64bit pro via recovery media.
I was wondering, startup was taking very long .... from starting windows to the logon screen 1.45 minutes ... Now i tried a new recovery, same issue, tested the harddisk which is in good state.
I changed back to the 500GB Drive, startup take only 30 seconds around....
    Are there any known issues?

    2. BIOS 1.34
    3. latest Lenovo Updates are all installed
    4. latest Windows Updates are all installed
    5. Clean Install i have tried, but first startup has shown the same issue
    6. Tried the SSD via main bay and via multibay
    7. checked BIOS for AHCI Mode
    8. switched to Diagnostic mode (where can i view the report, machine goes driectly further in Booting windows)?
    Machine Type is 42844MG

What speaks again Samsung SSD's, at the moment it is the fastest SDD on the market and so far i've seen no bad rewiews.
I can't find any thread with same (SSD and problem) ... i have seen some SSD issues in another community thread, but not with same symtoms. I don't know where to locate, at the SSD, at W520, whereeever.

  • SATA III support?

Do any of the AMD AM3-supporting motherboards offer SATA III support? This is what some places refer to as SATA 3 Gbit/s, right? The 790FX-GD70 specs only mention SATA II. Can this sort of thing be modified by flash upgrade or not?

Oh, sorry. I had mistakenly throught that SATA II was 300 Mbit/s. Thanks
    Wrong!!!
    SATA-2 (II) is 3GBIT/s ~ 300MBYTE/s
Please do not mix values, as they make a big difference.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 SATA III support

I would like to know if the new Macbook Pro 2011 supports SATA III SSD's. I know the thunderbolt needs the Sandy Bridge to work, however I am not sure if that means that the chip will definitely support a SATA III SSD. Does anyone know ????

    Eww,
Thank you very much or your response. I have a clarifying question. I am looking at buy a OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD and I just want to be sure that if I spend the money on it I am going to get 100% functionality to include the 6/Gbps, minus of course the TRIM feature because from what I understand Apple locked it out. Do you know if this drive will work on the 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • GX740-079US SATA III support?

It is hard to find a definitive answer, but my gut feeling says the GX740 support SATA II and not III though certain sites are offering SSD options with the SATA III drives. Does anyone know for if the GX740-079US support SATA III as I am looking to upgrade to SSD. TIA!

  • Adding an SSD (SATA III) to HP Elite desktop. Is it possible?

    Dear Experts...
I would like to upgrade my computer adding an SSD drive as a master drive and shifting the original 2TB drive to be a slave.
I found several coices of SSD drives but almost all of them are SATA III interface.
Does my desktop supports this interface? as it is just written that it has a SATA interface without specifying which version of SATA!
How many hard drives could this desktop holds? I already have two (the original 2TB, and my old 256GB drive), and I wand to add one SSD for Windows and progs.
Can I buy this SSD for example? Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State ...
This is the official HP specifications page of my Desktop .
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi,
It has 2 spare HDD bays as on its specs:
         http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02781215
You can swap SSD on your machine and make the old HDD as a secondary ("slave") drive. SATA III is backward compatible therefore you can use it. Since SSD's are smaller (normally 2.5") you need something which is similar to one of the following brackets:

  • HP Pro Book 4540s SATA III Support

    Does 4540s support SATA 3 ?
    optional i mean
and is there any models in HP that support SATA 3 ?

    Hi:
The chipset in the 4540s supports SATA III transfer speeds.
I would hope that the HP engineers designed the notebook to connect the hard drive to a SATA III port!
I doubt that HP installed a SATA III drive in the model though.
While it is a nice notebook, it is a low end business model.

  • SSD SATA-III in optibay

    Hi there.
Should a SATA-III 6gigabit SSD work in the obtibay of a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011?
I get 6 Gigabit speed with 3 Gigabit negotiated when using a 5400 rpm HDD in the optibay.
I'm asking, because I tried inserting a Intel 520 series 120gb SATA-III SSD in the optibay the other day - i was unable to format it from there, even though it showed.
    Regards,

    Ah okay, thank you.
It's because I broke the SATA cable to the HDD bay.
I've ordered a new cable, but I'd like to use the SSD untill then, if it was possible.
Guess I'll have to wait it out, and cross my fingers that the new SATA cable works.
    Thanks again!

  • MBP 5,5 supports OWC Pro 6G SSD SATA III?

My MBP 5,5 (bought it in 2009) hard drive got failure so I ordered a OWC SSD Pro 6G for replacement. I have it installed but it can't be recognized during the OS installation, and even does not show up under the Disk Utility.
However, if I put this SSD as external hard drive via USB, it works perfectly, so my answer is - does my MBP supports this SSD?
    Thank you

You got a SATA II bus, but for some reason, you are only connecting at 1.5Gb/s. Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

  • Macbook Pro  SSD SATA III - Worth it?

    Hello everyone
I own a mid-2010 13 inch MacBook Pro (2.4 Core 2 Duo). Since i cannot afford a new mac, i want to speed it up a little bit.
The first thing i did was to upgrade the memory to 8GB (from Crucial). The next thing i would like to do, is replace the hard disk with
an SSD one. I have checked many SSD's and i ended up between Crucial and OWC (128GB versions).
I can afford the cost of an SSD but i just realized that these drives are SATA 3. While, if i am not mistaken, my macbook
supports SATA 2 as maximum speed. Is it worth to buy a 6GB/s SSD afterall or not?
I would really appreciate your help and experience.
    Thanks
    Dimitris

You're correct, they are SATA II, which is limited to 3Gb/s, so it's not worth it to get the faster solid state. Still, though, even at 3Gb/s, you're going to see a giant performance boost over your current hard disk. Enjoy your solid state!
