Dv7-1245dx

working fine, laptop went to sleep and now wont come out of it. Have done hard reset many times. nothing.
I removed all the memory chips NO ERROR BEEPS
removed harddisk NO ERROR BEEPS
No post BEEPS
lights all work across the top harddisk light works, power light indicates its on and charging.
Thinking bad mainboard or and CPU.....
IDEAS?
is this laptop one that is included in the class action lawsuit ?

No class action. That was the dv9000 which looks pretty similar. The class action was long closed, however. I tend to agree it is likely the motherboard. The dv7-1000 AMD models have not been without issues and they can be repaired with a "reflow" like the dv9000s. There are several competent shops advertising their services on ebay. This is an example.

If you can remove the motherboard (not for the novice) you can get it done even cheaper.

I have the exact same problem.  I noticed this started after some windows update just prior to upgrading to Windows 7.  And then it got worse after the upgrade.
I'm having to go into the task manager and end the smartmenu.exe application just to stop the nagging volume bar across the middle of the screen and just to use the computer, but the Volume still jumps around rapidly.
Please, HP read this and help.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx

HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx i have a HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx it will not start all the dash board lights light up no. & caps lock blink no certain pattern just blink 3 sec. blink, dvd drive makes a sound and 2 beeps can any one help, hp web help did not work

Well, it's good to know that something does work, since disabling it and enabling it helps. This leads me to believe that there is no hardware issue, which is good.
I think an uninstall and reinstall of the OS will help things.
First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)
Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)

  • Pavi dv7-1245dx - Reinstall Vista=Wifi switch stuck Red, mouse won't scroll

I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on my HP Pavillion DV7 1245dx . I found a lot of the drivers to be missing but was able to fix this via the vendor/hardware IDs. After all was said and done, wireless internet worked fine, but the button remained red all the time. Also my mouse's scroll area wasn't responsive.

  • Pavilion dv7-1245dx loads apps slowly, freezes w white screen, hangs with rotating icon

I have dv7-1245dx, less than 1 year, running Windows 7, Norton, Microsoft Office apps, esp Outlook, use several real estate apps that are web-based. I'm trying to run my business with this machine, but am having constant performance problems: loads apps very slowly (1-2 minutes), freezes at random times (no pattern I can detect) and the screen turns white, or system just hangs and displays the rotating icon endlessly. Usually, my only resort is a hard shutdown (ctr-alt-del doesn't work as it won't take any input). Have run optimization/maintenance tools, had repair person and geek squad look at it, but either it seems fixed then starts these behaviors again in a week or so, or they say they can't diagnose any problems with the maintenance tools.  Can anyone help me? Thx!

I have the same issue with a Pavilion DV7 19xx running vista home premium, it freezes every 20 seconds for a minute, so that it appears that the programs are not responding, however after a minute or so it starts to run normally., only to freeze 20 seconds later again, something impossible to fix,I tried to run a chcdisk, with no positive result, and the restore point seems to have been lost or deemed invalid...
This even happens in all fail safe modes
So I downloaded the service manual, as the warranty has expired on this particular model that was a replacement model for another model that went bust and was given to us instead of very severely mal-designed laptop, that either was a Monday model, or was bad from the design out...
I opened it(the new model), and the cooling ribs was full of dust, and this on a model that is less than a year old(however without warranty due to specific circumstances). A PC requires service, just like a car, but not in less than a year...
    in regard to heat problems..
This model as the former, got so hot that it was to hot to sit on my wifes lap, I would even state that it is a fire hazard, and that HP should look into this NOW before it ignites a fire somewhere and a law suit drops in and they would have to recall PCs like auto mobiles sometimes get recalled..
there is an open space, just behind the cooling ribs where a fan draws in air (and dust), however the ribs spacing is so small that any dust will get caught there, after a while there is so much dust that the heat sinking performance is lost and the PC starts to shut down, due to overheat.. however, it can stall, and just keep on heating, until it reaches some critical point.
I am generally getting very tired of these issues with HP laptops, and will most certainly not buy one, the next time my wife needs an Upgrade due to my experiences with not 1 but 2 different laptops, that is not up to the job, they claim to be...
In fact, I'm speculating in submitting a complaint, to my countries "ombudsman", that takes care of these issues and can invoke certain penalties on companies who are breaking certain marketing laws such as supplying products that continuously keeps breaking down... due to mal design.. a mal design is for example when a speeder in a car jams.
I would still be great-full for any advice on how to fix the freezing problem..
I cannot recommend though to open your laptops without you being a skilled technician, and you will need the service manual to do it..
Any advice/recommendation is welcomed, although I'm not optimistic..
I'm 36 years old and have been working with computers since I was 12, so I'm not some kid that is just mad, in fact I do understand that sometimes in order to earn money in these days, things are getting rushed, and when they do, errors happen as we are all humans..

  • Battery for Pavilion dv7-1245dx

The original battery for the unit is an 8-cell Li-Ion.  Do you know if replacement battery may be a 12-cell Li-Ion, which I'd assume would yield  longer battery life, or must I stay with 8-cell?  Thanks.

    Hi,
I have checked the manual for this series laptops and the 8-cell is the top. There are two compatible batteries, 6-cell and 8-cell. However, this says something about a compatible 12-cell battery:

  • Dv7-1245dx HDD crashed need drivers to reinstall vista on new HDD

How can I find the correct Sata controller driver for a DV7-1245dx so I can reinstall Vista on a new HDD.  I've tried driver from HP site with no luck.

    Hi:
You should be able to install Vista without the need of a SATA AHCI controller driver.

  • Dv7 1245dx, which fix (out of 3) should I try?

Right now I'm looking at a dv7 1245dx with nothing attached to it but the speakers, monitor, keyboard and audio jacks.  The laptop has a blank screen and blinking caps \ num lock.  According to the site, this means there is a problem with the A/C.  There has been issue with tilting the cord to get the computer to start but everything looks ok and is not loose.
So basicly I can try replacing the motherboard
    replacing the cable
    replacing the battery
or trying to fix the powersupply (which doesnt look broken from what I can see)
I've tried all the fixes from the site.  Just not sure if this happens all the time and it is just another dead motherboard.  If that is the case I might just try baking it!  I'm also open to other suggestions
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Here is the Manual, which you are clearly going to need:
    Manual
See Page 34. It is possible to replace just the power jack separately. No soldering.
Here is the part on eBay for $3:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-DC-Jack-Power-Cable-for-HP-Pavilion-DV7-1000-Harness-DC301004S00-/310406...
This may or may not work. The AMD versions of the dv7-1000 series have had some motherboard issues and it may be that. If so, I would not bake it but for $70 or so if you can remove the motherboard, there are competent shops hawking their services online who can do a proper reflow with real equipment. Bake jobs tend to fail after 30-60 days. A proper reflow can last a couple years.

  • DV7-1245dx Touchpad Problem

The touchpad on my dv7-1245dx has gone wild on me.  It is slow to respond and seems to jump over on-screen buttons making them hard to select.  I fiddled with the options to know avail.  Any idea how I fix this?

    Hi,
Try the following and see if it makes any difference.
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45623.exe
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, shut down the notebook.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Upgrading HP Pavilian DV7 1245DX from M-72 to ZM-86, questions

I went through the issue of finding out my processor shot craps on my HP Pavilian DV7 1245DX by seeing the numlock and caps lock flash 1 time per HP's flashing spec indicator.
My question to a HP expert in hardware, I'm upgrading the processor since I have to replace it anyways as follows:
    AMD Turion X2 RM-72 2.1
    Upgrading to:
    AMD Turion X2 ZM-86 2.4
Question, Do I need any updated BIOS or Drivers for that new Processor?
Want to prep for this upgrade as much as possible.
    Thanks

    Be advised. . .
Just becuase you have a LED indicating the CPU is bad, doesn't mean the CPU is bad but could very well be the Motherboard socket failing to read the CPU functionality.
So as it makes sense on the issue, doens't help the solution and the cost is a big ding for those trying to do repairs on a expired product just keep the budget out of the equation.
I hope this post helps someone that has the same issue and avoids cost/time becuase of it.
Not saying don't repair it, only saying it may get furstrating if you don't have the money to extend possible additional parts.

  • Hp dv7-1245dx memory problems

I have a HP dv7-1245dx in my shop. the lower memory slot when filled prohibits the laptop from posting. lights, no Hard drive activity, and no video. CPU fan spins. but will not post to the hard drive. If I remove the lower memory card, the laptop boots up just fine. I've tried both memory cards in both slots and have the same result. I've tried another motherboard same results. any idea what's going on? Is there a bios update that tackles this problem? Any information would help.
Could this be a CPU problem?
Just updated BIOS. to F.49. still no joy.  LTW

  • HP DV7-1245DX Sees no boot devices

I have a HP DV7-1245DX Notebook computer. It was running slow, so went to reset it, and it came up with the error "03F0" which then says "No boot device present, Install operating system".
Thinking the hard drive had died or got corrupted but this code continued when the hard drive had been removed, and the system would find no other boot devices. I tried bootable cd's, dvd's and a bootable USB stick that I know works, and the system does not see any.
The odd thing is it CAN run a disk scan on the hard drive when its plugged in. It just does not see it in the boot manager. The boot manager is actually blank, showing no options for devices. I setup the boot order properly, and made sure "cd drive" was enabled as a boot device, but this changed nothing. I tried bios defaults also.
I removed the memory, tested each individually, unplugged the power and cmos and put everything back in, plugged in another hard drive with a different windows install, nothing changes the error.
I put the original hard drive in an enclosure and ran a MBR rebuild on it with EASEUS, and a disk scan which returned no errors, the system still could not boot to the device.
The only thing I can think at this point is that the disk controller went bad, or the BIOS is corrupted. Since this system sees absolutely NO boot devices I don't have an idea on how to reflash the bios.
    Thanks for your responses

    Hi,
I would tend to agree with your conclusion that the sata controller has failed ( usually, a bad bios is more obvious as the notebook will not POST ).
If you look in the Bios Menu, does it recognise any bootable devices available?

  • My HP dv7-1245dx (intel processor) keeps locking up when loading Windows Vista

    Hi All,
I am someone can help me with this particulary frustrating problem.  I have an HP dv7-1245dx that keeps locking up once you see the windows screen with the 'chaser bar' scrolling.  Shortly after I hear a 'pop' on the speakers (I am assuming it was loading the audio driver) it consistenly locks up; the scroll bar stops... and that is it!!  I first tried checking the bios for function, and the computer did lock up when the 'long hard disk diagnostics) starts.  The memory is fine, and the quick disk drive check worked fine.  Couldn't even find a BIOS version online to reload.  I recently duplicated and replaced the old hard drive with a bit-for-bit copy.   I put the OLD drive back in thinking the new hard drive were somehow currupted, but the exact same thing happened.
I ordered recovery discs because I couldn't find my originals... initially.   I tried both sets, and the same thing continues to happen after reading the first disk, then seemingly going back to the hard drive.  Let me say this, the recovery utility sucks!!  You would think it would take ready command and control of the computer, allowing one to make changes.  I think this is Carly Forina's fault!!
Do I need to buy new Vista OS copy and reload??  Has anyone experienced the same thing??  I would appreciate any help in the right direction anyone is willing to offer me.  Thank you in advance!!

    Hi @windoz
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having some problems getting your Windows Vista to load properly. Buying another copy of Windows Vista and reloading most likely isn't going to help you here. It does look like a hardware issue. If you have tried two different hard drives and the memory test comes up fine then it either the cable connecting the hard drive or the processor on the motherboard. I would recommend having someone take a look at the notebook.
